The Arab world back in the 70s and 80s gave us quite a few very interesting rock and pop acts. Ahmed Fakroun from Libya was THE one of them. Here we have his 1983 album whose title means 'Love Words' in English. And in fact his kind of ethno pop seems to go deeper than just to the charts where a song like 'Soleil! Soleil!' - a typical yet outstanding synthie pop / new wave anthem that would have gone well with David Bowie or Duran Duran in the early 80s - definitely would have belonged. Other tunes are more Oriental with great string arrangements and those mystical melodies only Arab and Oriental music provides. It goes forth and back with these elements. 'Mots d'amour' is a rather colorful affair, when it comes to 80s pop music and within the fine arrangements you will find a lot of solid handcraft from the instrumental section. Whoever worked with Ahmed Fakroun in the studio during the album production shall be praised and blessed for his talent as well. All in all this is one of the lost gems of 80s pop music which fetches prices up to 500,00 Euros for a nearly mint copy today. So fans of cool 80s pop with a memorable edge are now able to grab a copy of this forgotten jewel. Compared to many European releases from that year, 'Mots d'Amour' can easily match up with all of them and has several outstanding evergreens on board. The sound is perfect for the time as well. Crepuscule presents a limited edition clear vinyl pressing of Crystal World , the debut album by Marnie, the moniker adopted by Ladytron lead singer Helen Marnie for her solo recordings.

Recorded in Reykjavik, Iceland, in August 2012, Crystal World comprises ten original songs written by Marnie with Ladytron colleague Daniel Hunt. Focus track The Hunter was issued as a single in 2013 and subsequently remixed by Stephen Morris of New Order. 'The Hunter is a rippling bit of Moroder by returning producer Hunt,' wrote Pitchfork.  'Indeed Crystal World is for all intents and purposes the sixth Ladytron album.'

In fact the sixth Ladytron album is due later in 2018. Meanwhile Crystal World remains a stylish, slow-burn bestseller praised as an 'ice-cool selection of shimmering nouveau synth-pop and frosty ballads' by The List, and 'gorgeous and delectably glacial' by The Electricity Club.

This new remastered double gatefold edition of Crystal World comes in a limited edition of 500 copies pressed in (crystal) clear vinyl, with a free digital download (MP3). All ten tracks from the original 2013 release are now joined on Side 4 with remixes by Stephen Morris, Mark Reeder and Roman Nose.

Mirror Box is the solo analog synth project of Dallas musician Sean Kirkpatrick. With an extensive resume that includes keyboard duties for Kill Rock Stars' 00s noise rock band The Paper Chase as well as his concurrent projects, dark post-punk-synth-rockers Nervous Curtains and darkwave duo Little Beards, Mirror Box is Kirkpatrick's first foray into the purely electronic realm. Blending together elements of Giallo moodiness, dub texture, techno propulsion, a passing nod to your favorite wave music, and a flare for the kosmiche, Mirror Box' debut release, Minimal Compliance EP, is a tour de force of the veteran musician's exploration of a wide range of influences and experience.

Released by Dallas-based Gavin Guthrie (TX Connect)'s TRU (Texas Recordings Underground), the 5-track EP kicks off with the immediately-gripping title track. A huge mid-tempo 808 beat drives the menacing Moog bass while cosmic synths explore the skies over gritty, urban terrain. 'The Body,' grounded by its stuttering and singular bass line, is an expansive reworking of a track from Little Beards' debut album which features Nan Kirkpatrick on the release's only vocal appearance. Side A closes with 'Destabilized Agent,' a retro-futurist dream that effortlessly voyages from Sagan's Cosmos to a melodic minimal wave refrain.

While the first side's lush synthesizers and sophisticated syncopation are somewhat of a departure for TRU, a label that has so far defined itself by bringing the electronic sounds of Texas' underground warehouse scene to dance floors across the sea, the flip side of the record is where the four hits the floor. 'Grifter React' opens with a hard kick and electro zaps, letting the rhythm take the lead until a distorted bass finally enters to provide the hook. Minimal Compliance EP finale, 'Critical Blitz,' weaves together all of Mirror Box' finer elements into a concise mission statement. Pulsing, hypnotic mono-synth, vintage mellotrons, classic hats and claps, sweeping production (courtesy of Alex Bhore at Dallas' Elmwood studios) and sparse synth melodies converge in dark analog pleasure that will guide you along like on a cool air-conditioned drive through a devilishly hot Texas night.:

5 catchy tracks by eighties bristol outfit Umo Vogue Umo Vogue formed in Bristol by Stig Manley, Russ Crook and Neil Deamer who were in Bath based ska rock outfit 'The AT's', along with Bristol based singer Debbie Marlow. Neil's Brother Clive joined the band bringing a fantastic new dynamic to the band on drums, percussion and heavy artillery. The band name is a deliberate misspelling of the ultra-chic Italian fashion magazine 'L'Uomo Vogue'. After winning the Bristol 'Battle of the Bands' in 1982 they were signed to Phonogram and dropped a few months later. They then signed to EMI in '83 and released their first single 'Just My Love' released in early 1984. The second single was 'Make It Real' and was never released as the band were culled from the EMI roster in late '84. For this reissue of their debut single we've added 3 bonus tracks, a demo of 'Just My Love', the unreleased follow single 'Make It Real' and a bedroom demo 'Erotica.'

Each song displays ridiculously catchy melodies and innovative electronic rhythms. The drum tracks, a combination of rhythm machines and hand percussion, were mixed down from the 4-track tape used as backing on stage, with the rich slap bass and Roland SH09 synths weaves fluid lead lines in between the harmony vocals. All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The record is housed in an exact replica of the original jacket and includes an 8-page booklet with photos, notes and press clippings from the band's archive. 'We're synthetic but not antiseptic. Recorded during Spring 2018 as Marc and Dave collaborated on the tracklist for their career box set, 'Northern Lights' and 'Guilty (Cos I Say You Are)' represent the first new music from the ever-fascinating Soft Cell. This limited edition double-A-sided 7' single features special radio edits created by Dave Ball. Original versions can also be found on the 1CD collection 'The Singles - Keychains And Snowstorms' also out September 28th.

Paying tribute to the Northern Soul scene which had such a pivotal influence on British electronica's most influential and fascinating band, 'Northern Lights' is the brand-new single from Soft Cell - their first since 2002.

Featuring all the magic and class of vintage Soft Cell, the track has an interesting origin. At the beginning of 2018 Marc Almond and Dave Ball dropped the bombshell announcement that they would reform for one night only at London's O2 Arena. In April it was also revealed that the September 30th gig would be preceded on September 7th by a 10-disc career retrospective box set, titled 'Keychains & Snowstorms'.

Following a greatest hits compilation in the late 90s the Human League signed to the Papillon label. The line-up
of Philip Oakey, Susan Sulley and Joanne Catherall recorded the 'Secrets' album, with keyboard player Neil
Sutton, who co-wrote most of the songs with Oakey, and programmer David Beevers providing the trademark
Human League sound.
The album's release in 2001 was preceded by the single 'All I Ever Wanted', but both the single and album lost
promotion and sales when Papillon ran into financial difficulties and was closed shortly after the album's release.
This 2LP edition features the original album over the first three sides, while the newly-added fourth side
features a non-album B-side, along with one rare remix each of 'All I Ever Wanted', 'You'll Be Sorry' and
'Love Me Madly'.
Housed in a gatefold sleeve, the inner sleeves features all the lyrics.

With the August 1987 release of Bad - which spawned no fewer than five US #1 singles - Michael Jackson consolidated his position as the planet's biggest pop star. That September he embarked on a world tour to promote the album, starting with a month in Japan. The remarkable set presented here was originally broadcast on Nippon TV, and finds him performing material from the length of his career in front of almost 40,000 devoted fans. It's presented here together with background notes and images, and includes bonus tracks performed at the Grammy Awards 1988 and Super Bowl 1993.

Originally released in 1982 on the DRO label, "La Marca De Anubis" was the debut album by LOS INICIADOS, an obscure project related to legendary Spanish synth-pop band AVIADOR DRO. Always shrouded in mystery, Los Iniciados decided to hide their identities behind masks. The only visible and confirmed member was Arco Iris (aka Marta Cervera, also on Aviador Dro) and according to rumours, behind the other nicknames we find Biovac N (Servando Carballar, founder of Aviador Dro and the DRO label) plus members of Alphaville (the Spanish post-punk band).

On "La Marca De Anubis" we also find Jesús Arias (of punk band T.N.T.) on electric guitar. The album was produced by Servando Carballar (Aviador Dro). Dark & eerie MINIMAL SYNTH / DARK WAVE sounds with a POST-PUNK edge, highly influenced by THE RESIDENTS, Dadaism, performance art and ancient Egyptian cults. TE RECORDS presents on this beautiful 12" picture disc collection six tracks of electro-pop music, yet all songs sound different from the other. Smea, who has produced the music, has invited six vocalists from Gothenburg (including himself) to put lyrics on top of each track. The result is synth, dark wave, techno, break beat, electro boogie sounding coolness!

Two Words is the debut release from the duo of Canadian sound artist crys cole and Australian songwriter Francis Plagne. Building on a series of experimental live performances in which the pair toyed with possible common languages for their seemingly unrelated approaches to music, the LP's two sides present a single piece that brings together abstract texture and slow-motion song in a sonic space where genre cedes to the logic of dreams.

The piece begins with a long, nearly static sequence built primarily from rubbed surfaces, using movement in the stereo field and changing mic placements to create a unified but unstable sonic environment that mimics wind, water, and breath, opening an impossible space between nature and artifice. This artificial outdoors ultimately makes room for Plagne's electric organ, which sounds a series of melancholic chords to accompany a wandering Wyatt-esque keyboard line as cole's intimate contact mic textures sizzle and pop in the foreground.

From here the piece makes a surprise detour into song, as the majority of the second side finds Plagne intoning a series of obtuse two word phrases (from a text by Berlin-based poet Marty Hiatt) to an austere organ accompaniment. Working closely with engineer and producer Joe Talia, cole and Plagne extend the studio-as-an-instrument tradition of Teo Macero and This Heat, introducing subtle yet unexpected production shifts that lead the listener from the initial austerity of the organ and voice to an oneiric space of asynchronised vocal doubles, creaking textures, and distant whistling, ultimately arriving at something like an imagined meeting of Organum and Arthur Russell.

Packaged in a suitably mysterious sleeve featuring a lush work by Australian painter Anne Wallace on the front and text by Hiatt on the back, Two Words is both comforting and strange, a disorienting blend of seemingly discrepant elements.

Polaroid were an Italian post-punk/new wave band, formed in Turin in 1981. This vinyl re-issue of 'Senza Respiro' contains all 6 original songs with 4 bonus tracks from the band's later period.

Polaroid made their debut with the cassette 6-track EP 'Senza Respiro', self-released in 1984. Influenced by Bauhaus, Joy Division, The Cure, Pere Ubu as well as Chic and Talking Heads. The music was dark and cold, but also melodic especially with regards to guitars and voices. At the end of 1984 the band added vocalist Michele Cantoblundo while drummer Marco left and was replaced by a Roland TR-909. With Michele began a period of very dark and poetic music, influenced also by bands like Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and The Sisters of Mercy. The band peacefully broke-up in 1987.

All songs have been remastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios. The record is housed in custom jacket designed by Eloise Leigh and includes 4 polaroid sized postcards with photos notes and lyrics.

RAVEDIT presents dance/pop music in the style of Rian Treanor. Across four radical edits, familiar and obscure ohrwurms are dissected and flipped in thrilling new ways, rendering razor sharp
and playfully nutty updates of Pakistani film music, Eurodance set-pieces and seminal synth-pop classics.
Rian extracts and accentuates their hooks in series of jabbing, asymmetric reductions for the 'floor with results intended to rewire muscle memories and inject the club with a healthy dose of
advanced daftness. In each part Rian exerts a singular spin on timeless evergreens, demonstrating his roots in hip hop and UK dance music's sampling cultures, while exemplifying an inexorable, personalised push for new patterns of dancefloor possibility.
All material has been thoroughly disruptive in a variety of situations, from midsummer rites at IMMA to Radio 1Xtra to freak raves in Salford and, most recently, as part of Rian's Boiler Room
performance in Helsinki, the latter of which drew opposing criticism from its YouTube viewers; prompting Wayne Cloete to remark 'what do you call this cos it aint music its like a production
that went wrong or still trying to figure out the beat', whereas Viktor Štech claimed Rian to be a 'genius with rhythm.' To be fair they're both right, but only one of them knows it.
Basically the A-side is mental party fuel - especially if you like alcopops, Lollywood soundtracks or Ferris Bueller's Day Off - while the B-side turns 3 mins of '80s pop brilliance into a 14 minute+ monster cannily riffing on the idea of deferred gratification.

The second of Polytechnic Youth's ace new LPs for July, sees a mighty set from Austria based synth pop duo Mitra Mitra. Following previous releases on Peripheral Minimal and their own Micromort label, not to mention a lathe cut right here on PY that sold out in 20 minutes in Dec. 2015.



The band was formed in Vienna in late 2014 by Violet Candide and Mahk Rumbae. Originally from New Zealand, Violet Candide is a founding member of the Crazy Hospital DJ collective, and one of the organisers of the legendary 'Future Echo' club night in Vienna, and is one half of 'Anesthetic Hairpins'; whilst British musician Mahk Rumbae is known for his work as a member of the industrial/experimental project 'Konstruktivists', 'Oppenheimer MkII' (with Andy Oppenheimer of Oppenheimer Analysis) and his solo techno project 'Codex Empire'.

After working together on one of Violet's solo songs, 'Heat', the pair decided to continue working together and formed Mitra Mitra as a more full time project, with the aim of writing electronic songs not tied to any particular influence or style. However, if there was such a thing as a signature PY sound- arguably this LP (alongside last year's Vorderhaus full length), encapsulates it most. Beautifully icy cold synth pop straight outta' early prime era Mute / Blackwing studios output. Serene yet melodic, edgy, dry icy hooks and delicious grooves aplenty all over this record. Eight wonderful tracks where quality and sheer melodic guile of the song writing never dips and attention truly is held across the whole set, ....no mean feat indeed.

Available as a 300 pressing LP only, destined to sell out rapid style as have all previous releases by both artist and label.

"To start with I'd say that the somehow poetic title of the fourth album of The Married Monk (MM, a delightful acronym...), The Belgian Kick, is meaningless. This enduring nonsense (remember R/O/C/K/Y the previous one) is of an appropriate aestheticism. To be specific, it is a portrait of a bearded refrigerant wearing Ray Ban shades and who seems to be coming from nowhere. I especially love this art of foiling (in this point you have to call it art) the potential listeners of MM. Actually, MM like being where nobody awaits them. Yet, nothing is planned and their only motivation is to go forward even if it implies taking steps aside. Presently reduced to the original trio (a wonderful anglophile singer plus a brilliant DYI photo-graphic designer-musician and a gifted drummer), the band has here recorded its most mature and varied album to date. This diversity allows an incredible balancing act, making a standing jump from an implacable disco-pop hit (Pretty Lads) to an improbable slow (Totally Confused) through a rock injunction (Tell Me Gary) and a swaying ballad (Love Commander); add to these a transfiguration of an unknown title of John Barry (You Only Live Twice) or forgotten Captain Beefheart (Observatory Crest) which will not go unnoticed 'ici ou ailleurs'. Or else, how to cleverly revisit songs of others - an old habit for MM. And what about the others MM just don't care much. Enough to take out from the cupboard the saxophone, the most disparaged instrument of rock history. If I had to write a chapter on that point I would state that MM is one of the most atypical French bands, and the twelve tracks of this Belgian Kick are a good illustration of it. Belgian people won't say the contrary."

Dark Entries is proud to release 'Commerce', the third EP from San Francisco-based trio INHALT, German for content'. The group was founded in 2009, and for the purposes of this recording are Matia Simovich, Philip Winiger and Steven Campodonico. INHALT's core operative strategy is of sonic fidelity and integrity rather than nostalgia. Their first release was a split 12" on World Unknown in 2011 followed by two EPs on Dark Entries, a remix EP on Emotional Especial and a Part Time Punks Session on Cleopatra. Commerce' is a close examination of the self destructive tendency of the ego in relation to the allure of negativity and mass tragedy. The EP details the psychopathy of relentless thirst mandated by neo-liberalism and traverses through the adoption of social and economic technologies that strengthen domination vis a vis self enslavement to disempowerment. Employing the best of both modern and vintage techniques, the four songs on the EP utilize dense production, big snares, and powerful German vocals from Philip. INHALT are informed by the brooding soundtracks of John Carpenter as much as the vastness and sheen of Trevor Horn, and set out to explore the borders between the vocal-driven pop song and the expansive dancefloor 12 arrangement. The record was produced over four years at the bands own Black Sun Loft recording studio and Different Fur Studios. Paul Lavigne mastered the EP in London, England at Kontrast Mastering and George Horn handled the vinyl EQ curve at Fantasy Studios, Berkeley. Each EP is housed in a specially designed jacket by Leo Merz and includes a lyric sheet with English translations.

Prior to releasing a string of influential and widely acclaimed solo records under his own name on labels such as Important and Hospital Productions, Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails) self-released two albums under the name SONOIO ( It's Me.') in 2010 and 2011 in limited runs.

Praised for their complex and rich pop sound, strong vocal delivery and thoughtful compositions with impeccable production values, SONOIO's Red' and Blue' (and the accompanying remix albums Non Red' and Non Blue') made heavy use of Cortini's expert manipulation of the Buchla synthesizer, releasing the single Enough', and remixing Ladytron's Houdini' before setting off on tour in direct support.

As activity with Nine Inch Nails, the demands of touring, and his other solo endeavors began to pick up, production on the third and final SONOIO installment was delayed. In 2014 however, after years of silence, SONOIO posted the single and video for the song Thanks For Calling' exclusively on sonoio.org and quickly reignited rumors and hope for the release of the third album.

Four years have passed since then, and Dais Records is proud to announce - finally - the exclusive release of SONOIO's third and final effort: Fine', and the official re-release of the single and video for Thanks For Calling'. Fine is the first SONOIO full length to be released on vinyl, with gorgeous photography and packaging designed by Caspar Newbolt of Version Industries.

Opening track I Don't Know' and the mournful follow-up Left' set the stage for the emotional ride, with reverbed synths over an acute mid-tempo beat - accompanied by astonishingly strong vocals, which those accustomed to Cortini's instrumental works will likely be happily shocked by. Next, the aforementioned single Thanks For Calling' starts slow, building over 4 minutes with Cortini whispering, speaking, building strength into the gorgeously delivered line: falling to pieces' before the track explodes into a driving anthem.

The album then quite literally descends into Pieces', an instrumental effort that brings to mind Aphex's Ambient Works - a submerged lullaby of electronics before re-emerging into Vitamin D', an energetic and pulsing track that snaps the listener to attention. A pattern of smart and intentional pacing and rhythm becomes apparent, as the listener is taken down through moody, effective dirges ( Bad Habit', Under The Sea') and lifted up into a surprising guitar piece What's Before'. I Don't Know (Coda)' is the album's effective and final track, with Cortini's vocals muffled and echoing I'm in the mirror, let me in....' before emerging loud and clear above a wash of howling synths.

Personal, layered and complex, Fine' achieves greatness as both a singular example of deep and inspiring pop music, and as the final album - the closing chapter in the story of SONOIO.
