Debut album, released in 1977, by one by one of Anatolian Rock's most sheerly talented vocalists. Turkish psych-rock with some amazing funk drums and fuzzed out guitars. Ersen spent time in Mogollar, 3 Hür-El, and Cem Karaca's Kardaslar before cementing his reputation as the frontman of Dadaslar. His voice can range from one that has a soft edge (where he swallows his notes a bit, like a muezzin would), to growling belt-outs that could have fronted any 80s metal act.

Ersen and his ever-changing backup band wore Slade haircuts and loud jackets with rainbow pants or silver platform shoes, and they grew their moustaches just as long as the Beatle bangs of their Western counterparts.

His very last name, Dinleten, means 'listen'. So back to Anatolia once more and hear the unhinged guitar and electric baglama behind Turkish psychedelia's charismatic singer Ersen. He was discovered by Cem, was connected to Mogollar and 3 Hür-El, and even switched backing bands with Cem before finally hitting the charts with his own group Dadaslar. There's loads of B-sides and burly moves on these 70s singles which make his second LP, released in 1978. Wicked funk drums, fuzzy guitars,organs and the poweful voice of Ersen. Includes "Zalim", the killer psych-funk track made famous by the Gaslamp Killer's edit.

Heather Trost is best known for her work composing and performing as one half of A Hawk And A Hacksaw. She has also played with Neutral Milk Hotel, Beirut, Josephine Foster, and most recently Thor Harris of Swans. She has arranged and performed with the BBC Concert Orchestra, as well as conductor Andre De Ridder and his Stargaze Orchestra, and toured throughout the world.

In 2014 she released her first solo project, a 7-inch on Ba Da Bing Records, followed in 2015 by Ourobouros, a limited edition cassette of expansive electronic ambient compositions influenced by Basil Kirchin, Terry Riley and Angelo Badalamenti on Cimiotti Recordings. These two projects propelled a full length album: named after a Greek Island, Agistri is a song cycle of freely formed pop songs touching upon soul, samba, and pop music of the '60s and '70s, with a subtle shade of psychedelia. Ambient and melancholic sounds interweave with hammond organs and '70s Italian synthesizers, reflecting the desert landscapes of New Mexico, and the sparse shrubbery and turquoise water of the Aegean sea and its islands.

Bolstered by contributions from Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeremy Barnes on drums and bass, Deerhoof's John Dieterich on guitar, and Drake Hardin and Rosie Hutchinson of cult New Mexico band Mammal Eggs, Trost's talents as a songwriter and arranger explode on this wonderful, often surreal album.

In the early spring of 2016, Folklore Tapes researchers Ian Humberstone and Jordan Ogg left Edinburgh for the grey mountains of the Cairngorms. At Inverness, they took the road west to Glen Docherty and from there gazed across the crystalline waters of Loch Maree. Sixty-four islands decorate the loch's surface, and hidden among them is a jewel like no other, a verdant haven brimming with enough lore to fill the library of any old Highland mansion.
Isle Maree is small and seldom visited, but it has played host to a remarkable array of rites and wonders. Its shores remember Druid sacrifices, Saintly deeds and solemn funeral processions. Its soil holds Viking graves, a wish tree studded with ancient coins, and the vanishing traces of an enchanted well. Even the waves that lap against its shingle beaches are rumoured to harbour a revolting primordial beast.
Sacred Island delves into these mysteries, making use of little-known Victorian sources and contemporary interviews to unfurl the isle's tangled history. The project booklet is illustrated by film photography from the expedition and hitherto unpublished archival images. The flexi-disc features music for analogue synthesizer and symbolic action - pennies rubbed together, tuned water drums, and looped chimes half submerged in various liquids. These audio motifs are binded by tape-affected spoken word travelogues and graveyard field recordings from the hallowed retreat. A chemically treated patina coin completes the set.
To set foot on Isle Maree is to be spellbound by beauty and tranquility. To leave is to carry home the feeling of having only scratched the surface of its secrets. This island is a beguiling riddle whose solution may never be known.

Rich La Bonte is a musician, writer and editor from upstate New York born in 1946. At age 11 he figured out how to record a piano backwards with his first tape deck and discovered Monk, Mingus and Art Blakey. In 1965 Rich moved to Ithaca, bought an electric guitar and started singing in garage rock band the huns. After the band dissolved, he moved to NYC and played bass and sang in the original cast production of the musical Godspell. In the late 70s La Bonte moved to Hollywood with Shari Famous, released a a few 7' singles as Dada2, and started fLAtDiSk Records, a vinyl subsidiary of Dave Gibson's Moxie Record Company.

Rich released his debut solo album 'Mayan Canals' in 1981. The seven songs were recorded between 1973 and 1980 while living in New York, Pennsylvania and Hollywood. Influenced by everything from Apple Records to Zappa, the album veers from oozy psychedelia to synthesized breezy folk. Vocally Rich sounds like a cross between Tom Verlaine and Lou Reed. Some tracks feature an EMS Synthi A synthesizer, known to generate the sci-fi sounds from Dr. Who. Other songs utilize feedback from a Maestro Fuzztone box into a TEAC 4-track SimulSync tape recorder. Lyrically La Bonte tackles themes of dying celestial bodies, the birth of his daughter, and a critique of Bowie's character in The Man Who Fell To Earth. Included on this reissue are two bonus tracks originally released on the double A side 7' single Chance Circumstance/Drums Along The Maple Wood, a tribute to Irwin Chusid, the eminent WFMU DJ, with vocals by Shari Famous.

All songs have been remastered from original tapes by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket features a replica of the original jacket with a Mayan figure screen printed using the original rubber stamps from Rich's archives. Each copy includes a 6-page xeroxed booklet with lyrics, never before seen photos, and liner notes by Rich La Bonte.

It's been over a decade since Roy Montgomery's last album, and R M H Q is a hell of a return.

R: Tropic of Anodyne highlights Montgomery's baritone lamentations on every track. It sets the blueprint for all of R M H Q while displaying Montgomery's talent for brevity. His self-reflective lyrics remain personal, even answering the Rolling Stones' classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want" with the sobering "You Always Get What You Deserve".

Montgomery was in his rock band period in the eighties, when the dark, minimalist post-punk of The Pin Group lead into the gloriously open-ended freedoms of Dadamah. After a quiet spell, he returned in the late nineties, producing towering spires of guitar lines that exposed fragility between the strums. With his solo releases and in collaboration with Flying Saucer Attack, Bardo Pond (Hash Jar Tempo), and Chris Heaphy (Dissolve), his focus shifted from the truth-mining of rock music to epic celestialism. His ambitious yet humble tracks outstrip their origins, and Montgomery toured the world sitting cross-legged on the floor, playing twenty-plus-minute compositions.

A long period of silence followed, marked only with a split album with Grouper (who lists Montgomery as a primary influence), involvement in Torlesse Super Group, and a couple thematic variations serving as soundtracks for films. Instead, he focused on his personal and professional commitments. Unfortunately, two horrific events preceded his return: the Christchurch earthquakes of 2011 condemned Montgomery's entire neighborhood save for his home, stripping his street of a community, and, as a volunteer firefighter, he saw first-hand the destruction and loss of life in the city center. Additionally, since 2014, illness in the family has dominated his life. Self-expression once again demanded an outlet. R M H Q is four albums conceived and recorded over a very short period, each of them carrying a distinct focus and mood.

Auckland-based guitarist Oscar Dowling embarks on his debut solo album, leaving his deepest emotions laid bare across the table. The former New Gum Sarn member has created a subdued guitar record in the great indie tradition of his homeland. One that leads into the abyss, tantalising with heartbreak and his unsettling bitterness towards life and death. Influenced heavily from the identity of his country and battling with "my own identity, falling in love, anxiety and mental illness, friends, family and enemies to name a few".Free And Easy was recorded and mixed with Ben Lawson at The Red Bull Studios in Auckland. The album features local luminaries Steven Huf, Will Wood, Mason Fairey, and Sam Hamilton. Dowling recalls; "Ben heard me play at my neighbours wedding and later asked if I wanted some studio time at Red Bull. He gave me a week in between other projects and last minute I realised I didn't want to record solo and asked friends Steven Huf and Will Wood if they wanted to help me out. I'd seen both of them play with a lot of different people over the years and knew they could pull it off without much warning. I think we only practiced 3 times."Recording in such swish surrounding felt alien to Oscar, as he states "it was different to the DIY style I'm used to, lots of fancy gear and a soundproofed, air conditioned live room. We had a reasonably strict time schedule so when we were there it was all go and no fucking around."Whether soaked in Oscar's melancholy voice and warped out guitars, ('Sally Free and Easy'), or accompanied by a delicate piano ('Low Moon') or the jarringly raw ('Ease My Passing') each track paints a vivid picture of Oscar's life. Title track ('The Life') is best at transcending this portrait of the hardship of life with an entrancing melody line and ruthless lyrics, those lyrics severing as a medium for "understanding subjects such as death and love" and finding comfort in writing about his relationship with mental health, the outcome being "very therapeutic."After spending the past year beekeeping with his brother, Oscar is still able to live out the perfect balance between city life and the countryside. Having grown up in the sticks, he tells us that the reason for moving to the capitol was that "people from all over come here to make music and find others making music, so it has a decent scene. I moved here for that reason and it has influenced me massively in terms of how I think about music and why I continue to make it."The heavy use of dialogue is what will transcend Free and Easy to it's listeners - reconnecting us with our own identity and making us remember what really is important. "My family, my girlfriend and my friends. They are the people I look to for inspiration everyday."

Of the handful of live dates available from 1962, Finjan Club In Montreal, July 2, 1962, may be Bob Dylan's most passionate and commanding performance. In addition to being a stellar performance, with great sound quality for the era, this live date is also of note for including many rarely heard Dylan originals including "The Death of Emmett Till," "Quit Your Lowdown Ways," and "Let Me Die in My Footsteps".

»Introspective« (1988) (whose inner sleeve showed Pet Shop Boys holding dogs). »And what about Neil Young« »Sure, Martin! But you choose!« No sooner said than done, Hossbach decided that it would also have to be a song about animals. He went for »Beautiful Bluebird« from »Chrome Dreams 2« (2007). Both songs were recorded and produced by Moses Schneider. The dog on the cover is drawn by von Lowtzow himself, the artwork is by Will Bankhead, Honest Jon's graphic designer who also runs the labels The Trilogy Tapes and Hingefinger.
The first fifty copies, available only via the label itself, each include a unique pencil drawing of a dog, again made by Dirk who is really good at it - as you can see in the accompanying video which was filmed by the Berlin-based production company Kobalt.

Originally released in 1983 and now available as a reissue, 'Cambodian Liberation Songs' is a painful call from forgotten resistance fighters. The Banteay Ampil Band was founded in the Ampil refugee camp near the Thai border. The musicians and female singers, who had hidden their talents during the Khmer Rouge regime, gathered around composer and violinist Oum Dara to engage in a new struggle: the resistance. The album binds together the golden age of Khmer music from the 1960s with the traditional repertoire and the context of the members' daily troubles. The band went to Singapore to record 'Cambodian Liberation Songs', the only record of the Khmer People's National Liberation Front. This expanded reissue includes liner notes, exclusive photos, a postcard and a download code.

"Year Of The Funky" is the second album from Bei Bei () & Shawn Lee. After their debut collaborative album "Into The Wind" (Ubiquity Records, 2010), the Chinese guzheng virtuoso / composer and the prolific multi-instrumentalist / producer join forces again on 12 new tracks. "Year Of The Funky" marries a unique blend of ancient tradition with studio trickery. Eschewing all notions of superficial "Asian/Fusion", this uplifting, genre-bending, and sophisticated sound brings together both East & West with musical aplomb. The new album continues as a logical progression from "Into The Wind". It ventures into both new tempos & moods while deftly connecting the past, the future and what lies beyond.


About Bei Bei

The Guzheng is over 2000 years old and belongs to the Asian long zither family. It was used in both folk and court music in the ancient China. Falling in love with the 5 foot tall x 1 foot wide 21-stringed Chinese instrument at first sight, Bei Bei began playing at the age of seven and received her professional musical training at the Central University of Nationalities in Beijing, China and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in Hong Kong. She also studied Jazz music and improvisation at Fullerton College in California. Bei Bei roots her art in classical music and expands into other styles, combining new with old into creative new expressions, especially in her collaborations with musicians from different genres such as funk, jazz, alternative, electronica, hip-hop, and dance. She is a multi-award winner of many national and international awards. In 2011, she and her music were included in the American college textbook "World Music" by Michael Bakan. In 2015, she was featured as one of The Most Fascinating People of Los Angeles by LA Weekly Magazine. As a studio musician, she recorded for Sci-fi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" and award-winning video game original score "Revelation" (). As a composer, she composed music and performed for the China Central TV documentary series "Dun Huang", Chinese movie "Copycat", and for Canon web promo video "Tiger's Heart" . She released her debut album "Quiet Your Mind And Listen" in 2006 and her collaborative album "Heart of China" (Universal Music), with Richard Horowtiz, in 2008. Her last collaborative album "Into The Wind" with Shawn Lee was released through Ubiquity Records in 2010. As an educator and author, she has published two books "Gu Zheng Sessions Vol.1" and "Bei Bei's Easiest Guzheng Course Book 1" with accompaniment CD and videos. She is the director of Lotus Bud Guzheng Academy in Orange County California and business owner of The Guzheng Shop.


About Shawn Lee

Shawn Lee is one of the most prolific musicians of his generation. A multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer songwriter, composer and Radio DJ who has released 35 albums as an artist to date. He has played, produced and written on hundreds of records. He has worked with a diverse range of artists including Jeff Buckley, Kelis, Saint Etienne, Money Mark, Amy Winehouse, Jonathan Jeremiah, Darondo, Adrian Younge, Tony Joe White, Robbie Williams, Incognito and Princess Superstar to name just a few. Lee's music has been used extensively in both film & TV - "Monuments Men", "20 feet from stardom", "House of cards", "Orange is the new black", "Blacklist", "Vice Principals", "Oceans 13", "Eastbound & Down", "Ugly Betty", "Nip Tuck", "CSI," "Confessions of a shopaholic", Cinemaxx, Jaguar, BMW, Barclays, Clarks shoes, Head & shoulders and many many more. He has also created bespoke music for Hermann Miller, Ace Hotels and Wallpaper magazine. As a composer, he has scored two documentary films "Elevate" and "Under the sun". Lee also created the original soundtrack for the feature films "Save Angel Hope", "Live Evil," "12 Dare's" and composed the original scores for video games "Zombie Playground" and "Rockstar's Bully" which was nominated for best score twice - winning once. Shawn Lee is an American and has lived in London England for over 20 years with his wife and his two daughters.

A magical mixture of traditional min'yo songs and Latin jazz elements, this is an original compilation of the work of Japanese singer Chiemi Eri, drawing upon 10-inches released by the Japanese King label between 1958 and 1962. Included are exclusive liner notes and a rich calligraphed booklet with romanized lyrics.

El Origen is a collaborative project between Chile's Rodrigo Gallano (Matanza) and Nicola Cruz (ZZK) exploring the folkloric musical traditions of South America. The A side is comprised of original compositions written, played and sung by Rodrigo while Nicola Cruz remixes all the tracks on the B side, giving the sons his signature deep electronic vibe. The EP will be out on a special limited edition 12" with art composed by renown street artist Ju Mu Monster.

About which Josh McCaslin, the nine piece band leader, says: - written a few years ago when I was extremely poor, young, and had been scammed out of all my money on several occasions while searching for housing and buying cars. 'THE GOLDEN ERA OF SINHALESE AND TAMIL FOLK-POP MUSIC' - A 30-track DOUBLE-LP compilation presenting Sri Lankan musical styles that were fashionable between 1967 and 1979. The included booklet depicts the country's historical, cultural and musical context. This selection, which mainly consists of titles from the catalogue of Sooriya Records, presents the most popular artists of the times. Featured are virtuoso sitar and violin player Pandit Amaradeva, singer Indrani Perera, Paul Fernando and his lively baila rhythms, psychedelic Tamil producer Paramesh, Clarence Wijewardena and the Golden Chimes.

A masterpiece' and 'stunningly beautiful' the critics declared after the concert premiere of Andreas Ihlebæk's soon to be released concept album "The Guest". The Norwegian singer, pianist and composer has hit a nerve with audiences through his combination of soul, jazz, classical and Norwegian folk music - a blend he himself calls 'Fjellsoul' ('mountain soul music').

Originally released in 1981 as a cassette on the It's War Boys label (catalogue number £2) this is a precious, thrilling reminder of UK post-punk DIY at its most inspired — out to flout musical orthodoxies, and generally rock the boat hard. It's giddily brilliant, polyphonic and open-eared; wildly enjoyable. Jolly English... and anti-xenophobic to the bone. In amongst quickfire,Residents-style bricolage there are strong shots of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, jazz from Babs Gonzales through Monk to free improvisation, the misfit punk of The Slits, The Raincoats and Desperate Bicycles, the no-wave-funk ironies of The Flying Lizards, the early tape experiments of Steve Reich, skiffle, silly voices, scraps from film musicals and advertising music... even a go at Tito Puente's timbale playing. According to one of the performers, its themes are 'moral negotiation, mistrust, social class, distress, comedy, wild adventure, chemical derangement, as well as anarchic joy, and love.'

The Highwaymen were a country music super-group composed of four of the biggest outlaw country artists: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. The band was active as a group between 1985 and 1995.

In 1984, Glen Campbell first played the song Highwayman' for Johnny Cash. The four were all together in Switzerland doing a television special and decided that they should do a project together. While the four were recording their first album, Marty Stuart again played the song for Cash, saying it would be perfect for them-four verses, four souls, and four of them.

Campbell then played the song and the quartet had the name for their new super-group The Highwaymen', the name of their first album, Highwayman, and the name of their first single. The four thought it was a perfect name for them because they were always on the road and all four had the image of being outlaws in country music.

Both the album and the single eventually reached the top spot in the country music charts.
