While aware that they were working on a comedy, composers Daniel Mudford & Pete Woodhead wanted to make a score that was deadly serious and let the comedy do its own thing. "We wanted to play a straight bat,' as the English say, and treat the film as though it was a sincere and genuinely terrifying scenario." says Mudford. In doing so, they crafted a score that fits in perfectly along side the great horror scores that inspired it.

Pete & Dan's band, 'The Sons Of Silence,' was previously featured in Edgar Wright's television show Spaced before it became part of the behind the scenes soundtrack to the writing, and casting portions of production of the film. "Indeed, many of the doomier, dubbier tracks of from The Sons of Silence would blend in perfectly with my playlist, made up of John Carpenter scores, Goblin rock outs and library tracks from Dawn of The Dead. So even before Dan and Pete were definitely scoring the movie, they were already scoring the movie." Says Edgar.

With their first album, legendary French art-rock band Wapassou found a distinctive musical voice: well-developed melodies, rhythmic organ, prominent droning violin, and guitar doubling-up as a rhythm instrument. They often conjure up what it might have sounded like had John Cale and Stereolab formed a band in 1974, the year this album was released. The five tracks are highly original, varied and inventive, steeped in post-psychedelic rock. Although Wapassou are noted for playing without a rhythm section, the two most striking songs include bass and drums. Why some enterprising dj hasn't created a chill mix from the drum track and provocative vocals on 'Chatiment' (guitarist Karen Nickerl murmuring about the cigarettes she has consumed and that she is a killer, 'Je suis l'assassin,' in the midst of the pulsing drone of the band), we don't know. The 13+ minute long 'Trip' is a revelation: for the first two minutes you will think you stumbled into the Cocteau Twin's 'Victorialand'; the band then jam for six and a half minutes before they drop one of the trippiest ethereal breakbeat grooves you'll ever hear; the last two minutes of solo sitar are sonic lysergia of the highest quality.

Tony Iglio, born in 1932, has been one of the most popular orchestral arrangers of RAI (Italian National Television) and has composed over 1500 songs. Son of art, over the years he has played with and for the most important figures of the last century in Italy. Drugstore was recorded in 1971 in a small theatre in Napoli by a combo of professional musicians and is rated the weirdest and most insane Italian library of the early 70's mixing jazz, psychedelia, effects and purcussions. The free CD includes a 8 pages booklet with rare photos and liner notes from Jonny Trunk.

To assemble this album (only a 45 rpm single was issued with the original film release) the stereo master tapes of the original recording session were used and properly restored.

Released in 2000, The Virgin Suicides was director Sofia Coppola's first feature film, Kirsten Dunst's first major screen role, and Air's first foray into film scoring. The Versailles duo Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin started to record the score by watching VHS tapes of the film during the autumn of 1998. Eerie, synthetic and tempestuous, The Virgin Suicides soundtrack's first single Playground Love' is the only vocal track, featuring vocals from Gordon Tracks (an alias of Thomas Mars, the lead singer for the band Phoenix). The Virgin Suicides soon became a cult soundtrack and one of the most celebrated albums in the electronic performers' fascinating discography. The score went on to be nominated for Best Soundtrack at the 2001 BRIT awards.

Originally released in 2013 for the 40th anniversary of the cult 70's horror film, only 500 copies of The Wicker Man 40th Anniversary Edition were pressed on black vinyl which have become highly sought after. Many of these were sold at a special movie screening and via a London Gallery - only 300 ever made it out into record stores!

The 40th Anniversary Edition has a different track listing to the preceding OST double album, selecting only the songs to make a single LP. Giovanni had always intended to release the soundtrack on vinyl as an album of songs, but this never happened due to the film's troubled past, and consequently the existing soundtrack includes extra incidental music.

This pressing is unique, presenting the music as an album of those songs - the only time Paul Giovanni's musical vision for the film has been accurately represented on record.

Silva Screen commissioned artist Richey Beckett to come up with artwork for a poster and sleeve. This repress on white vinyl contrasts beautifully with the artwork, which is printed on reverse board. It also includes the stunning original printed inner sleeve.

Ennio Morricone, a composer known usually as 'Le Maestro', has been able to be as meticulous as his friend director, composing a soundtrack that fits brilliantly to the bombastic and epic atmospheres of the film.

AMS Records is today releasing a new edition of this masterpiece, with a completely new graphics and a 30x30cm insert full of vintage posters and lobby cards.

'Gli Intoccabili' (The untouchables) is a slightly unknown movie that belongs to a very crowded group of international productions made between the '60s and the '70s. Some became 'instant classics', while many others remained unknown for years, only to be rediscovered recently and pronounced a cult movie. Such as this film directed by Giuliano Montaldo in the US and screened for the first time on April 1969.

The cast is stellar, with a young Peter 'Lieutenant Columbo' Falk, John Cassavetes (who had just worked on 'Rosemary's Baby'), Gena Rowlands, Britt Ekland and Florinda Bolkan as the main characters.

The music is written by the omnipresent Ennio Morricone, who fluently moves from the western genre (the various Sergio Leone's films which made him famous in the sixties) to the police/thriller one, making this one of his most varied works.

As in the western field, we find one main vocal track about the main character, 'La ballata di Hank McCain', while the rest of the soundtrack toggles between symphonic/epic moments and tense/dissonant ones, going through mellow and lounge atmospheres.

This makes 'Gli Intoccabili' an album that can be listened to in its entirety without necessarily being linked to the images of the movie. One of the many hidden gems by Morricone, here presented in a gatefold LP cover with a completely renewed artwork and a 30x30cm poster with vintage flyers and lobby cards.

"La Chiesa" (The Church) is a 1989 film, directed by Michele Soavi (who a few years later would be the director of the famous "Dellamorte Dellamore", inspired by a Tiziano Sclavi's novel and his comic book character Dylan

Dog) and produced by the master of Italian horror Dario Argento, who also participated in the writing of the story and screenplay. The film elicits diametrically opposed reactions until today: some consider it a masterpiece of the genre, others not, the symbol of an era - we are in the late '80s - of decline and lack of inspiration. The truth probably lies somewhere in between. "La Chiesa" was initially meant to be directed by Lamberto Bava. The songs selected for this release are those composed by Keith Emerson and Goblin, the latter being a pseudonym of the one and only Fabio Pignatelli. The result is a stylistically homogeneous soundtrack, in which classical, rock and electronic sounds are skilfully blended. Emerson, in particular, makes extensive use of a church organ, mindful of his work for Dario Argento's film "Inferno" of a few years earlier (1980), while Pignatelli clearly shows his 'Goblinian' soul, it's just updated by about a decade.

Reissue of a soundtrack, originally released 1978. Yuji Ohno, is a Japanese jazz musician born in 1941. He's principally known for his musical scoring of Japanese animated television series, of which 'Lupin III' and the feature film 'The Castle Of Cagliostro' are his best known works. Ohno is also well-known as a member of the jazz trio which he forms with bassist Miroslav Vitous and drummer Lenny White. 'Captain Future' is a legendary soundtrack performed by Yuji Ohno and his You & The Explosion Band featuring Takao Naoi, Eiji Arai, Takeru Muraoka, Jake H. Concepcion and Pepe Anai. Produced in the late '70s, the famous Japanese Space Opera animated series was hugely successful around the world. The music combines space jazz funk, smooth jazz and deep grooves served by the Korg synthesizer and its particular sound. For fans of O.S.T.-releases this is a must have title.

Composer Kenji Kawai was chosen to recreate the futuristic cyber-punk atmosphere that emanates from the 'Ghost In The Shell' manga, into music. Assisted by the percussionist Yuhki Sugawara, Kenji Kawai reached the summit of his art by delivering captivating music, halfway between ambient electronics, traditional Japanese music and Buddhist ritual singings. The synthetic and ethereal soundscapes, almost disturbing, blend perfectly with gongs, bells or female choirs filled with echoes. The listener is plunged into a dreamlike fable sound with a striking and evocative poetry that is reminiscent of the soundtrack of a certain Akira.

A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT is a Western vampire noir set in a small fictional Iranian town called Bad City that has an effortlessly cool soundtrack featuring music from artists such as Kiosk, Radio Tehran, White Lies, Farah and Federale. With no solo composer providing a score, the sound of the film has instead been curated by Amirpour with a variety of tracks selected to supply a unique atmosphere, recalling less traditional vampire films such as NEAR DARK and ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE.

Despite not being score, the music selected by the director nevertheless bears heavy influence from the film music world, particularly the electronically ethereal work of Tangerine Dream, and the inescapable Western sounds of Ennio Morricone. Werner Herzog's 1972 film Aguirre, The Wrath Of God was the first collaboration between the famed director and Popol Vuh. Florian Fricke was approached by old friend Herzog to do the soundtrack for his third movie. Three years later, in 1975, after the international success of Herzog's film, Popol Vuh issued the LP Aguirre. It featured material recorded for the movie plus some other songs. Some of them recorded prior to 1975 - the Aguirre soundtrack ones, of course, plus there is the presence of the big Moog from Popol Vuh's early albums, and also contains Morgengruss II, an update of the Morgengruss song that had prevously appeared on Ensjäger Und Siebenjäger."Popol Vuh's hypnotic music' for Aguirre met with considerable acclaim. Roger Ebert wrote, The music sets the tone. It is haunting, ecclesiastical, human and yet something else... The music is crucial to Aguirre, the Wrath of God..." AllMusic noted, The film's central motif blends pulsing Moog and spectral voices conjured from Florian Fricke's Mellotron-related "choir organ" to achieve something sublime, in the truest sense of the word: it's hard not to find the music's awe-inspiring, overwhelming beauty simultaneously unsettling. The power of the legendary opening sequence of Herzog's film...owes as much to Popol Vuh's music as it does to the director's mise-en-scène.'
Herzog explained how the choir-like sound was created, "We used a strange instrument, which we called a 'choir-organ.' It has inside it three dozen different tapes running parallel to each other in loops. ... All these tapes are running at the same time, and there is a keyboard on which you can play them like an organ so that (it will) sound just like a human choir but yet, at the same time, very artificial and really quite eerie."
In 1975, Popol Vuh released an album entitled Aguirre. Although ostensibly a soundtrack album to Herzog's film, the six-track LP included only two songs ("Aguirre I (L'Acrime Di Rei)" and "Aguirre II") taken from Aguirre, the Wrath of God. The four remaining tracks were derived from various recordings done by the group c. 1972-1974. Werner Herzog: The music in my films is also very much neglected, if I may interrupt you, in Germany as well. Since AGUIRRE, my friend Florian Fricke, has done the music for almost all my films - for STEINER, for LA SOUFRIERE, for STROSZEK, and for HEART OF GLASS - and I've tried to push very hard so that he would be given the National Film Award this year. They've never given it to him, and there has been complete neglect of his work. Not even a single mention! And this year they just by-passed him once again!' (From: Images at the Horizon, 1979)
Popol Vuh has been nominated three times for an Oscar for best original score: 1972 (Aguirre), 1979 (Nosferatu) and 1987 (Cobra Verde).
There have been several different editions of Aguirre and each has varied slightly or quite a lot from the original issue. Several reissues change the last track (the 17 minute long Vergegenwärtigung) to include material from other Popol Vuh albums, even in cases the song is listed on the sleeve the music is from completely different sources. Thanks to the accurate archive work of SPV on offer here is the original version of the album as it was first released in 1975.

The story of the Nosferatu soundtrack editions through the years appears a little caotic. Several editions, with several sleeves and completely different tracklists have appeared in different countries. What we tried to offer here is the definitive edition of Popol Vuh's works for this fantastic Werner Herzog 1979 tribute to the old Murnau classic. When asked for a new soundtrack for Herzog's project, Florian Fricke and Daniel Fichelscher came out with a magnificent album that once again, as it had happened with Hosianna Mantra, opened new paths to follow. The album, although having been recorded with the movie in mind, was not titled Nosferatu. Instead it was released as Brüder des Schattens - Söhne des Lichts, which can be translated as "Brother Of Darkness - Son Of Light". It first came out in 1978 featuring amazing new age / ambient escapades based on repetitive passages and instrumentation of incredible beauty, recorded with the help of Al Gromer (Amon Düül) on sitar, Bob Eliscu (Between) on oboe, Ted de Jong on tamboura plus a complete church choir ensemble from Munich. Brüder des Schattens..., also issued in other editions as Nosferatu, makes disc one on this gorgeous double LP set.



Disc two of the Wah Wah edition features the LP that was originally released as the Nosferatu Original Sound Track album, also known as On The Way To A Little Way. A 1978 release, although it contained material recorded prior to that date. Right in the middle of the film production, Herzog felt he needed more music and asked Fricke for obscure, scary material. He searched the Popol Vuh archives and compiled the great collection that Nosferatu / On The Way... is. It came out a varied selectionç where older Moog tracks mix with more reflexive material that already gives clues of what's to come in Brüder des Schattens... Nevertheless, despite all the variety -or maybe thanks to it,- Nosferatu / On The Way To... turned out to be a fantastic, classic Popol Vuh album. We have added one bonus track previously unreleased in vinyl format.

Another classic soundtrack produced by Popol Vuh for a Werner Herzog film was Herz Aus Glass. Its music still retains the powerful emphasis given to the previous LP in certain passages, although it goes back to their more reflexive ambiental athmospheres yet presenting that concept one step further into more evolutive structures and even adding some touches of a certain folk music feel. Djong Yun is not present anymore, but Daniel Fichelscher and Florian Fricke can still count on the collaboration of Al Gromer on sitar, plus the addition of Mathias von Tippelskirch on flute.

A coffin without a corpse... Crammed with millions in cash! Supremely atmospheric Ennio Morricone score to a lesser known, but nonetheless stylish and satisfying Sergio Corbucci production, a cross between a Spaghetti Western and a wild west road movie, indeed, a fine example of a film that combines both Italian and American
western film traditions. Joseph Cotten - the Mercury Theatre veteran renowned for his performance alongside Orson Welles in Citizen Kane - leads the murderous "Hellbenders", a dissolute family regiment who ambush and massacre a convoy of Union soldiers transporting a million dollars, seizing the money that Jonas dreams of using to help re-ignite the confederate cause.

After the savage opening, the film settles into an engaging sequence of scenes exploring tensions within the group and depicting the numerous challenges the Hellbenders encounter as they progress slowly through hostile territory back toward New Mexico and home, Federal soldiers, Mexican bandits, a tribe of vengeful Indians and a psychotic beggar, ("respect the dead, I don't even respect the living"). To evade detection, The Hellbenders conceal the stolen money within the coffin of a fallen Southern officer. Along the way hire a beautiful gambler (Brazilian Actress, singer, sex symbol Norma Bengell) to pose as Mrs. Ambrose Allen, the supposed wife of the supposed dead man.
Il Maestro's soundtrack is an impressive conglomeration of mournful trumpets, nervous guitars and percussive, sometimes atonal atmosphere pieces which establish a suitably tense mood. Alessandro Alessandroni's I Cantori Moderni decorate the score with their characteristically eclectic vocal flourishes. Alongside his friend, Sergio Leone, Corbucci pioneered the Spaghetti Western genre with thirteen features, marvellous cinema like The Big
Silence and the notoriously bloody Django, which preceded Crudeli by just months.

Ennio Morricone is surely one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century. During a long and prolific career he has created music for more than five hundred films and television series. In working with Italian spaghetti western directors Sergio Leone, Duccio Tessari and Sergio Corbucci, he did nothing less than re-write the language of film music. It is impossible to imagine the genre without his contribution. He is to Sergio Leone, what Nino Rota is to Federico Fellini or Bernard Herrmann to Alfred Hitchcock. Il Maestro has written for every conceivable genre, collaborating, along the way, with Scorsese, Tarantino, Almodovar, Bertolucci, Pasolini, horror master Dario Argento, and many others.

In 1968 the Maestro Morricone was at the height of his career scoring Sergio Leone's classic Once Upon a Time in the West'. For the soundtrack of Roberto Faenza's cult debut movie ESCALATION, set in swinging London, 1968, Morricone teams up with fellow composer Bruno Nicolai and the vocalizations of Alessandro Alessandroni's Cantori Moderni', making this one of his least minimal soundtracks. Containing the legendary tune DIES IRAE PSICHEDELICO, this is one of the most essential Morricone soundtracks of all-time.

On July 30, 1966, England beat West Germany 4-2 in the World Cup Final and during the first week of August the Beatles release "Eleanor Rigby". We were witness to a musical and cultural earthquake of Biblical proportions. With "its ancient elegance and new opulence all tangled up in a dazzling blur of op and pop", London was the centre of the world, and it is into this dizzying Technicolor dream house that Mr. Dante Fontana lands. An expert in Italian Antiquities, steeped in the mythology of Lords and Ladies, the Queen, the changing guards and City Gents: all those oh so English traditions! However Mr. Dante Fontana soon discovers he is too late to realise his fantasy of becoming an English Gentleman. After buying a Bowler and Smoke of London suit, he encounters a city already invaded by the new Beat Generation, and thus the Italian dreamer embarks on a journey into dimensions where strangeness and extremes travel at maximum velocity. So rises "Fumo Di Londra," the historic first film directed by Alberto Sordi in 1966, in which each frame emanates magic.

Much of the film's considerable allure derives from the enchanting soundtrack of Piero Piccioni. This masterful

composer collaborated many times with Sordi, writing themes that were to became Albertone's career trademarks, "Marcia di Esculapio" from the movie "Il Medico della Mutua" and Rugido Do Leao from "Finché cé guerra, ce speranza" (which was used later for a series called "TV Storia di un Italiano"). The eclectic, instrumental side of "Fumo di Londra" boasts such exemplary pieces as "Babylon I'm Coming" and "Drag Beat" that paint the backdrop to the discotheque party scene. Like Michelangelo Antonioni's "Blow Up" and Desmond Davis' Smashing Time, "Fumo di Londra" - with its Edwardiana and Royal Parks and River Thames settings - will forever celebrate the mythology of Swinging London.
