Although this wasn't directed by but Sergio Leone, but by the less known Giulio Petroni, "Tepepa" is one of the best films in the spaghetti western genre, thanks to a perfect synopsis - even if as set in the 'abused' Mexican Revolution of the early '900 - to a trio of exceptional actors and, finally, to Ennio Morricone's soundtrack. The protagonists are in fact the immovable doctor John Steiner, the histrionic revolutionary Tomas Milian and the massive Colonel Orson Welles, a unique and practically unrepeatable combination, however directed in a 'leone-ish' way by Petroni, who often focuses on large panoramas and close-ups on the character's faces. As always, Morricone means quality: for "Tepepa" the Maestro creates a memorable soundtrack, dominated by strings and, curiously, by the acoustic guitar! Reissued several times on CD, this album has awaited for a vinyl reprint for 35 long years! When the film was premiered in the theatres (1969) just a the single 45rpm "Viva la Revolucion / In Mexico I would like" had been released, both songs are of course included here, the second of which is sung by Christy (stage name of Mary Cristina Brancucci) in a very felt and compelling way.

Combining all the traits of an international superhero or intrepid comic book adventurer, the true identity, whereabouts and history of the spectacular Italian composer known as Gerardo Iacoucci has been a mystery to record collectors for many years. As a result of the best efforts of secretive archivists and DJs as well as and the overprotective force field that surrounds the clandestine world of Italian library music, the commanding experimental psychedelic pop music made singlehandedly by this early pioneer of the anti-genre time after time rises to the top of collectors' want lists, commands huge ransom notes, ignites dancefloors and decimates genre tags before returning to its mythical status as one of the kings of the underworld without removing his mask. Despite the fact that original Italian copies of records by Gerardo Iacoucci are amongst the rarest, enigmatic fixtures of European psychedelia, his music simply refuses to be ghettoised and as the name of this album suggests the history of this artist reads like the memoirs of a genuine musical adventurer as well as a well-travelled prophet of experimental music and unsung pillar of Italian jazz and sound design.
Recorded in early 1970, Iacoucci's wide-eyed 'L'Avventura' suite spanned 6 sides of loud, heavyweight monophonic vinyl for Romano Di Bari's Deneb label and created an epically detailed blueprint for independent mood music companies whilst sharing release schedules with likeminded workaholics Alessandro Alessandroni and A. R. Luciani. However, Gerardo's adventure didn't begin here...
As a published author, recorded musician, professor, film composer, gentleman, musicologist and scholar, Gerardo Iacoucci has managed to cram the stories of nine lifetimes into one heroic existence, while maintaining a humble, earnest and near-mythical status as one of the great lost progressive pop pioneers of one of the most important transitional eras of European music, cinema and general, seldom rivalled, creative super powers. When the needle drops, 'L'Avventura' has only just begun.
Continuing their mission to shine light on the genuine anomalies of 70's Italian production music, Finders Keepers Records resurrects another unlikely transcription disc from the vaults of one of Rome's most esoteric library music archives.
Finders Keepers Records, in continued collaboration with the Di Barri company, with the Casa/Ducros family blessing, are now proud to shine new light on this sonic sculptures and provide a fresh context where educated music listeners are ready to fill the gaps between Delia Derbyshire, Ennio Morricone, Suzanne Ciani and Harry Partch and patronise a very welcome considered alternative to the recent rise in popularity of Italian Giallo soundtracks from a seldom savoured feminine creative vantage point.

Originally released in 1976 the soundtrack composed by Armando Trovaioli (famous for standard jazz records such as 'Trovajoli Jazz Piano' and soundtracks including 'Sesso Matto', 'C'Eravamo Tanto Amati', and 'The Beat Generation' to name but a few) highlights the composer's skills in this amazing dark humor comedy directed by Ettore Scola. The movie was awarded the Prix de la Mise en scène at Cannes Film Festival in 1976.

Down & Dirty was originally titled Brutti, sporchi e cativi in Italy. That translates literally to "dirty, nasty and bad", in reference to the lower-class characters and surroundings in this Ettore Scola film. Scola zeroes in on a particularly offensive Roman family. The stingy patriarch, Nino Manfredi, is personally wealthy but morally bankrupt, and his repulsive view of life trickles down to every member of his clan. Not content with corrupting his own flesh and blood, Manfredi spreads his philosophy throughout his village, where he functions as slumlord. By the time Manfredi's wife and sons begin plotting his murder, the audience is ready for a long, cold shower, with plenty of soap. The music is full of dramatic breaks and loose grooves. Available on vinyl again for the first time since its original release.

Another fine example of the Maestro's skills, breathtaking orchestration for Elio Petri's final part of the neurosis trilogy which began with 'Indagine Su Un Cittadino Al Di Sopra Di Ogni Sospetto' and was followed by 'La Classe Operaia Va in Paradiso'. Total, a young bank cashier, has been wondering for some time if his life, with its grey, dismal prospect, is worth living. He is aware of the illicit careers and rise to riches of many of his clients. He decide to start a new life: new clothes, new cars, new women. His "new look" begins discreetly, a few small robberies in supermarkets, progressing to more important fraud. Another fantastic Morricone soundtrack back in print on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1973.

Original Video Game Soundtrack. Music By Konami Kukeiha Club - Castlevania Iii: Dracula's Curse

All copies feature BOTH the NES and FAMICOM versions of all 28 BGM tracks from the game spread across two 12" LPs.

Mondo is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the CASTLEVANIA franchise with the premiere vinyl release of the original soundtrack to the 1989 Famicom / Nintendo Entertainment System Three-quel / Prequel: DRACULA'S CURSE.

DRACULA'S CURSE is a dark horse for most beloved of the original NES / FAMICOM trilogy, as it was a happy marriage of the linear elements of the first CASTLEVANIA and the more exploratory elements of SIMON'S QUEST - a union that led to the introduction of multiple playable characters, multiple paths and multiple endings - that remain franchise staples even today. The story follows Trevor Belmont, Simon's ancestor and his battles with the prince of darkness, alongside three other warriors: Grant Danasty the Pirate, Sypha Belnades the Mystic, and Alucard, Dracula's Son, who makes series debut here, and will play a more pivotal role in the games to come.

The soundtrack to DRACULA'S CURSE is important as well. Not only for fan favourite track 'Beginning,' a track you'd be nary to find excluded from any future CASTLEVANIA game, but for the dynamic audio introduced on the Japanese version of the game. The VRC6 Audio chip contained in the Japanese version allowed for a wider array of sound channels, producing a brighter, fuller soundtrack than on the cartridge released in the US. The Nintendo Entertainment System could not process this level of audio, so the version released in the US needed to have the audio scaled back. Despite this audio handicap the US version is still terrific, and the superiority of the which version best is still a matter of debate to this day. No need to choose though, since Mondo's vinyl re-issue contains both, spread across two 12" LPs, housed in a gatefold jacket featuring amazing new artwork by Sachin Teng.

Original Game Soundtrack: Konami Kukeiha Club - Contra 3: Alien Wars

Mondo is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Contra franchise with the premiere Vinyl release of the original soundtrack to the 1992 Super Nintendo sequel: The Alien Wars.

Set 3 years after the original, Red Falcon and his legion have returned to Earth, this time with the intent of launching a full-scale war against it's inhabitants. It's up to Bill and Lance, our heroes to scale walls, ride motorcycles, and even cling to soaring missiles in an attempt to defeat the onslaught.

The music of Contra 3: The Alien Wars is epic to say the least - the looping sequences of each level are longer, taking full advantage of the new audio capabilities available to the composers on the Super Nintendo. In some instances, like with 'Battle Runner' which operates on-the-rails for large stretches, it affords for the composers to have some sequences to go nearly two minutes before a single loop. The sweeping scope of these tracks leads to a chaos absent from the previous chapters of the run-and-gun series, while still obeying the structures and pacing of Video Game music... Just with more complex time signatures, and percussion patterns.

12" LP Featuring all 13 BGM tracks from the game

Gino Conte - Nell'anno Della Luna

A deep mystery surrounds the movie "Nell'anno della Luna" (In the year of the Moon) and its soundtrack, which was released one year later. A beautiful work that lingers in between swing and melodies, in a fad that was popular a few decades earlier, complemented by some elements of novelty borrowed from beat and rock. The title track, "Alla brasiliana" and "Samba Querida" sound more traditional, while titles like "Afro Swing", "Underground", "Beatmania" (all featuring the vocal ensemble I 4+4, led by Nora Orlandi) represent a more adventurous side of this soundtrack.

Barney Wilen - Un Temoin Das La Ville

Having already played on a film soundtrack with Miles Davis on Luis Malle's 'Ascenseur pour l'échafaud', Barney Wilen -- still barely in his 20s - got the opportunity to compose the score for another French film that used jazz as a background, 'Un Témoin Dans La Ville'. Judging by the present album the result is most convincing; one couldn't hope for a better marriage, so perfect is the way the music suits the image and vice versa.
The soundtrack is coupled on the B side with the more freely jazzy studio album 'Jazz Sur Seine', which teams Wilen with three-fourths of the original Modern Jazz Quartet (with Milt Jackson on piano only, of all things, Percy Heath on bass, and Clarke), plus the Latin percussion of Gana M'Bow.
Wilen gets more of a chance to stretch out and reveal his swinging, warm tenor tone; Jackson is quite competent as a comping accompanist and in fairly fluent, right-handed bop flurries.

Dimitri Shostakovich - Music For Soviet Films

'Shostakovich's involvement with the cinema dates to his youth in Leningrad. Shostakovich composed his first screen score in 1929, three years after his swift rise to fame with his startling First Symphony, and the same year he began the 'Age of Gold' ballet. The film was 'The New Babylon,' a writer-director collaboration by Shklovski and Trauberg (...) 'Michurin' was begun in 1946, after the end of World War 2. By then, Shostakovich had achieved a formidable reputation as composer all over the world. And though the fact went unrecognized outside the Soviet Union, he was also an old hand at film composing. Shostakovich's score incomparably enhanced the motion picture (...) 'A Year Is Worth a Lifetime,' directed by the gifted Grigory Roshal, is a dramatization of the life and work of Karl Marx (...) Grigory Roshal says of Shostakovich's contribution to the film: 'His music complemented and deepened the drama and served well the chief idea of the scenario-—that of revolution, and of lofty service to broad humanity. The changing emotional states, feelings and reactions of Marx, the historic events of his times, and the lives of people around him—all were skillfully expressed in Shostakovich's music(..)

Fumio Hayasaka first worked with Kurosawa in 1948 when he composed the score for Drunken Angel. Many consider Hayasaka and Kurosawa in the same way that Nino Rota and Fellini are regarded— an incomparable team, with the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Hayasaka scored seven of Kurosawa's best films and died while scoring his eighth. Seven Samurai (1954) was his last complete Kurosawa score.

Guy Bernard - Les Statues Meurent Aussi

On vinyl and playing at 45rpm, this is Guy Bernard's score to a short French movie from 1953 that was banned until the '60s because of its criticism of colonialism. The film, made by Alain Resnais and Chris Marker, exhibits a series of sculptures, masks and other traditional art from Sub-Saharan Africa, projecting a passionately anti-colonial, anti-racist, even anti-capitalist message in a stunning audio-visual collage. The accompanying music is intense and immersive.

Between 1951 and 2002, Elmer Bernstein composed over 200 scores for films and TV programs. Among the great film scores from 1955 to 1965 (The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, The Ten Commandments) the one that Bernstein picked as his favorite was - TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. This has one of the simplest and most delicate film scores ever composed. The opening Main Title features a delicate waltz tempo mixed with a more expansive theme which beautifully sets the mood for this drama of innocent childhood and racial prejudice. This is a masterpiece of subtle film scoring and one of the greatest from the past fifty years.

LIMITED EDITION OF 500 COPIES

In 1962, Orson Welles brought to the big screen THE TRIAL what he called his greatest film. Filmed in a beautiful black and white, written by Welles and with the incredible performance of Anthony Perkins, Romy Schneider and Jeanne Moreau. The Trial' captures very well the Kafkaesque feeling of the novel. The film is a paranoic nightmare interrupted here and there by moments of typical Welles humor. One of the elements that contributes greatly to the atmosphere of the film is the soundtrack of Jean Ledrut that makes use of both original parts and adaptations by Tomaso Albinoni (Adagio in G minor). This soundtrack makes extensive use of adaptations of Albinoni music as well as some original tracks very atmospheric. There are also some jazzy tracks (played by the great jazz pianist as well as composer Martial Solal) that fit beautifully.

Mozart in the Jungle is a half-hour comedic drama based on the critically-acclaimed memoir Mozart in the Jungle: Sex, Drugs & Classical Music by Blair Tindall. The series draws back the curtain on the world of music, where artistic dedication and creativity collide with mind games, politicking and Survival instincts.

The third season of Mozart in the Jungle begins in the midst of a grand Italian adventure. Rodrigo takes on a brand-new artistic challenge: conducting the great opera diva Alessandra in her long-awaited return concert in Venice, Italy. He's swept up in the city, communing with its rich musical history as Alessandra pulls him into a passionate collaboration that quickly becomes operatic in its own right. Hailey travels across Europe with the Andrew Walsh Ensemble, finding it's not everything that she'd hoped - but discovering a passion for conducting along the way. During the months since the lockout, the symphony has been torn apart. Many of the players can't be in the same room as each other and tense negotiations have become personal for Cynthia and Gloria. The musicians are challenged to become individuals again, confronting life without their orchestra family at the center.

The series was, again, nominated for 2 Golden Globes in 2017.

Disturbing and dissonant tracks in a fascinating fusion of classical, electronic, lounge and rock&roll music: a psychedelic alteration of the traditional horror scoring for this strange movie, a bizarre mixture between a giallo and a ghost story.

Piero Piccioni - Camille 2000

Rome, Aventino, one of the most amazing neighborhoods in the South area of the capital city. In an old garage, fully stored and preserved, tons of 1/4 inch tapes represent the monumental and brilliant work of one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century: the master Piero Piccioni.

Caring for, listening to, and taking stock is his son, Jason. We asked him to select three out of many, three chapters of the master's work, three scores to be rescued and brought to the light in all their expressive and communicative power.

Camille 2000 would be the first in the ongoing series. Never published until today on vinyl, it was carefully transferred from the original masters and embellished with several alternative takes and fragments that remained unpublished until now.

The work of restoration was performed by Giuliano Radiciotti, while the mastering was made by multi Grammy winner Brian Lucey.

"I remember when I heard this music for the very first time in my father's studio in the early 90s. It was truly something revolutionary. It sounded so contemporary that it seems it was written in those days. Can't believe it was twenty years before then, instead!"

Jean-bernard Raiteux - Les Demons

The unreleased Euro pysch score to the French/Portuguese X-rated version of The Devils meets The Witchfinder General! Synchronised by Spanish anti-establishmentarian, sexual liberator, die-hard independent filmmaker and unrepentant voyeur Jess Franco (Vampyros Lesbos/De Sade). Composed entirely by French composer Jean-Bernard Raiteux aka Jean-Michel Lorgere (Sinner/Harlem Pop Trotters) and presented here in full soundtrack form for the first time.

Proudly claiming the dubious accolade of the Spanish sexploitation version of The Devils as the distributor's most bankable asset, this previously banned 1973 European witch flick would rip the art house facade from Ken Russell's well polished box office smash and push the envelope way beyond the closet titillation of the gentrified new wave controversy seekers. Delivered on a comparable shoestring budget as the 55th feature in Jess Franco's filmography of approximately 203 completed movies, The Demons (Les Démons), directed under the Anglicised pseudonym Clifford Brown, took many of the Franco's sexually stylistic watermarks (epitomised in his Vampyros Lesbos trilogy) adding witchcraft, possession and nunsploitation against a rural Mediterranean backdrop before disappearing into the woods. Whilst clearly taking inspirational plot cues from Michael Reeve's The Witchfinder General (UK 1968) and drawing comparisons with scenes from Eiichi Yamamoto's Belladonna Of Sadness (Japan 1973) this B-Movie reduction of Franco's wide palette of colourful ingredients has in recent years provided enthusiasts/champions/defenders of the workaholic horrotica bastion with a rare and treasured addition. Future-proofed by an essential component, omnipresent in Franco's films, it is the mysterious commercially unobtainable soundtrack music that cements the unwaning interest in his risqué brand of unconventional shock/schlock sinema (not hindered my the enigmatic title card misinformation that often surrounds the original composers) and the music herein that has given Franco's harshest critics a second chance/reason to reevaluate this man's unapologetic art.

Following on from Finders Keepers previous expanded release of Bruno Nicolai's score for Franco's 1970 adaptation of De Sade (FKR069) this record stands as another tribute to Franco's life which he lived through the mechanisms of a camera with relentless zeal and a passion to challenge every aspect of movie making along the way. UNDERground, OVERambitious, RIGHT on, LEFTfield, BELOW the radar but ABOVE criticism. INdulgent and OUTrageous, but never middle of the road, Jess Franco was many things but he wasn't pretentious and never delivered art for art's sake and I feel honoured to have spent time with him. Franco was in fact a realist, he kept both feet firmly on the ground and a keen eye behind the right side of the lens and if Jess did have any demons his films were his exorcisms, the critics were the bloody judges and his legacy (through the medium of X-rated cinema of variable quality) is immortal.

First time ever on vinyl the entire score to Nicole's classic giallo score pressed on 2 x 180g Black vinyl records housed inside a 425gsm gatefold sleeve.

Art and Layout by Eric Adrian Lee, Mastered for vinyl by James Plotkin

Death Waltz Recording Co. is ecstatic to be able to shock and thrill you once again with another classic slice of senseless violence and beautiful melodies from the giallo playbook with Bruno Nicolai's score to the 1971 Sergio Martino mystery THE CASE OF THE SCORPION'S TAIL (a.k.a. LA CODA DELLO SCORPIONE). After Lisa Baumer's husband dies in an airplane explosion, she becomes the beneficiary of a huge life insurance payout in his name. But things are never as they seem, and after being confronted by her husband's mistress demanding a cut, Lisa is murdered, leaving an insurance detective and crime scene photographer to solve the titular whodunnit.

Fabio Fabor - Mr. Diabolicus - Mr. Mysterious

It is kind of difficult to imagine TV or radio shows accompanied by tracks like "Neutroni", "Mr. Mysterious", "Fucina diabolica" or "Idillio Cosmico", but in 1973 - the year this gem was released - Italian TV was often surprising the audience with innovative shows, likely to host music such as Fabor's compositions. Listening again to these 14 short compositions is still an extraordinary experience if we consider their impact and influence on contemporary music and on hip labels of our days like Ghost Box. Along with "Pape Satan", this is probably the best Fabio Fabor ever.

Rocchi - Chiarosi - Fabor - Dramatest

"Dramatest" is a collection of experimental library music published in 1974 by Fonovideo and signed by Oscar Rocchi (and his moniker Chiarosi) - an excellent pianist and composer, who worked with many Italian jazz heavyweights - and Fabio Fabor. "Dramatest" consists of 14 slightly eccentric explorations of the electronic spectrum, casting pure experimentalism, melody and no fillers whatsoever. One of the best examples of the lost art of Italian libraries!

  • 2: The Ballad Of Jimmy Mccabe

  • 5: Jawbone Training
  • 6: Man On Fire
  • 7: End Fight Sequence

March 10 sees Paul Weller release his first ever soundtrack, to the forthcoming British movie, Jawbone. The film's star (and writer / co-producer), the Bafta-nominated actor Johnny Harris approached Paul a few years ago through a mutual friend, on the off-chance that he might be interested. At that point, all that existed was a script - no cast and no budget - but Weller was keen almost immediately and a great partnership (and friendship) was forged.

'Jawbone: Music From The Film' is a collection quite unlike anything else from Paul Weller's extensive discography as you can hear on the album's sprawling 21-minute opener 'Jimmy / Blackout', an experimental sound collage which provides much of the film's score and underlying mood.

'Jimmy / Blackout' segues across a variety of different and often dissonant tones, its eclectic tapestry of sounds flourishes and fractures with choral vocal harmonies, bursts of droning guitar and the swirl of vintage synthesisers, but on track 2, 'The Ballad of Jimmy McCabe', we find Paul in more familiar territory with a beautiful acoustic song, which reflects the situation and emotional turmoil that's troubling Johnny Harris's lead character.
