It was a year ago now that Twin Peaks: The Return arrived like a godsend and defied every plausible expectation. David Lynch and Mark Frost's sprawling, unprecedented 18-part masterpiece proved unlike anything seen before on television.
Nobody will forget the moment the show's uncanny two-part premiere drew to an enigmatic close, as Chromatics took the stage at the Roadhouse bathed in cobalt, inaugurating with their hypnotic performance of Shadow'. This was only the beginning of Johnny Jewel's sonic presence on the series. His mesmerizing, dreamlike Windswept' became the bona fide theme song of Kyle MacLachlan's Lodge-dazed Dougie Jones — a siren song of melancholic saxophone calling out to him from the beyond.

I was about a year deep into recording what would become Windswept when I heard that David was making Season 3,' he explains. It's been a year since Chromatics performed at the Roadhouse. With disintegrated memory through the haze of television snow, I wanted to share a glimpse behind the red curtain.'

Themes for Television is an epic from the cutting room floor. A nearly hour-long foray into the blurry hours of night. The project began as a sonic exploration of the sounds I was hearing in my nightmares,' Jewel says. I wanted to find my way out of the maze by focusing on beauty over fear — like the way the fractured sunrise looks in a dream.'

Themes for Television is in keeping with the unpredictable twilit splendour one expects of Jewel. Working entirely without images, drawing from his own imagined version of what The Return might be, Jewel produced a monumental six hours of material. The 21 tracks that comprise this album have been culled from that prolific streak of inspiration, sequenced and edited last winter in Tokyo.

Christopher has been immersed in music all his life. As a child growing up in the Netherlands he would listen to his father play Flamenco guitar for hours and hours every day, while his mother's extensive vinyl collection introduced him to legendary musicians like The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, and David Bowie. In his teens Sean attended the Royal Conservatory in The Hague as a drummer, but wanting to broaden his education, he moved to Rotterdam and began a new course in music production at Codarts, immersing himself into the world of recording and producing. Throughout his studies, Sean continued to learn and master new instruments. Shortly after graduating Sean began creating music for films and commercials, delivering for a diverse range of projects. In 2014 his song 'Everything', composed and produced for an international car commercial, began to get him noticed, reaching a million streams on Spotify. He then also released the beautiful track 'Wasteland'.

Way back in 1967, an animated superhero cartoon was released into the world. It was created by Grantray-Lawrence Animation and was based on a web-spinning, crime fighting blue and red dressed character that had originated in1962, in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. This amazing series (that we're not allowed to mention the name of for legal reasons) ran on ABC TV in the USA, then Canada, then a few years later started to spread its web further, running here in the UK throughout summer holidays, after school and possibly early mornings at weekends in the late 1970s. The series then got released on VHS video (and probably Betamax too) in the mid 1980s and still continues to spin its animated magic around the world through further broadcasts, YouTube and DVDs.

The series was notoriously low budget, with animated errors everywhere and numerous scenes, sequences and backgrounds being re-used all the time, often across the same episode. Even a certain spider logo on a costume would appear with six legs, then eight legs later on, then back to six again in the same show.

Series One opened with a newly written spider theme, a classic, hooky song all about doing whatever spiders can, and had, as Big George (RIP) once pointed out to me, a set of session singers falling slightly out of time with the backing track after the first verse. Series One also featured background music by jobbing composers Bob Harris and Ray Ellis but these cues and master tapes are now believed to be lost.

After Series One the company Grantray-Lawrence went bankrupt, so the amazing spider series (that we're not allowed to mention for legal reasons) was taken on by producer Steve Krantz. He brought in new talent, including animation director Ralph Bakshi who later went on to turn a Robert Crumb strip cartoon into the feature Fritz The Cat. Krantz also slashed the already cripplingly small spider budget, and brought in the idea of using economic library music. Here, thanks possibly to an independent sync agent (it has been suggested that a company called Music Sound Track Services may have been the one) production turned to the KPM catalogue. This was one of the few really established library catalogues around at the time with a modern edge, it was full of fabulous, modern dramatic music tracks - often all on the same LP. But more importantly all the tracks were far longer than the one minute musical cuts that many of the fledgling USA library companies were issuing at the time. Not only would this KPM music be efficient, affordable and very easy to use, it would also mean syndication worldwide would not be held up by any future musical issues. Krantz produced two amazing spider series (that we're not allowed to mention for legal reasons), and both were smothered with KPM music. In fact barely a spider second goes by without music playing in either the background or foreground.

For many years I - and many nostalgic others - have been thinking about putting this vinyl album together. For many enthusiasts this really is formative music - a junior foray into hip swinging crime jazz and esoteric musical grooviness. I've also read on line accounts by DJs from WFMU on the trail of original spider master tapes, and there's even a whole forum dedicated to Spidey-Jazz'. Then recently I was looking at an old spider tracklist and realized that several of my favourite KPM cues were there including Syd Dale's Hell Raisers' and Walk And Talk', both from one of the most elusive and desirable KPM albums of all time (yes, you just try and find yourself a copy of KPM 1002 right now), so I decided to push on and get the album made.

So, what features on this Spider-Jazz Lp Well it's music from the amazing TV series we are not allowed to mention for legal reasons, BUT, not music from Series One. No, but it is all from Series Two and Series Three. From looking at archival cue sheets, over 50 tracks from various early KPM 1000 series albums were used across episodes. I've distilled this down into one exciting and enthralling LP, and if this works a further Spider Jazz album may well swing in to production. If you're interested (and I'm sure you may well be) cues here came from KPM1001, KPM1002, KPM1015, KPM1017, KPM1018 and KPM1043 and were composed by master library composers of the era - Dale, Hawkshaw, Hawksworth, Mansfield etc.

And if you are listening over there in the USA, you may well recognize many of the cues here not just from the amazing TV series (that we're not allowed to mention for legal reasons) but also from classic 1960s and 1970s NFL highlight shows that we are allowed to mention.

The soundtrack from the motion picture Titanic is the highest-selling primarily orchestral soundtrack ever. Back in 1996-1997 the American composer James Horner was approached by director James Cameron, after the musician Enya declined to work on the project. With the help of Will Jennings he wrote the signature song "My Heart Will Go On", after he chose Céline Dion to sing the song. It became an worldwide smash it and an instant classic. Horner used both electronics as an orchestra to create the layered pieces for the soundtrack. The beautiful cues are interwoven in the story line, from the romance to the tragic downfall of the boat. It's an exceptional score which shows us ho great the composer James Horner was.

Titanic is a 1997 American epic romance-disaster film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by James Cameron. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as members of different social classes who fall in love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage. Upon its release on December 19, 1997, Titanic achieved critical and commercial success. Nominated for fourteen Academy Awards, it tied with All About Eve (1950) for the most Oscar nominations, and won eleven, including the awards for Best Picture and Best Director, tying Ben Hur (1959) for the most Oscars won by a single film. With an initial worldwide gross of over $1.84 billion, Titanic was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark.

Music from the arcade classic, newly remastered and available on vinyl for the first time outside of Japan. Composed in 1987 by SEGA's legendary in-house programmer, Hiroshi Hiro' Kawaguchi (OutRun, Space Harrier), this vinyl release of After Burner II features the complete arcade score, along with an unused Melody Version' of the title track. In addition, we are proud to include a second disc of bonus material, including three arranged versions by SEGA's in-house live band (S.S.T. Spanish artists Remate and Wild Honey have joined hands to write the score to 2001 Sparks In The Dark, an original TCM Spain production paying tribute to Stanley Kubrick's classic masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was premiered 50 years ago.

2001 Sparks In The Dark is a recreation of the interview Stanley Kubrick gave to Playboy magazine in September 1968, after the premiere of 2001: A Space Odyssey. In the interview, the director talks about the film's reception, and laid out his vision of the future - it was a conversation which, over time, became key to understand the reflections and theories that led the filmmaker to shoot the feature that would change science fiction for good.

In 2017 he released Torres Blancas, his third album and most surprising collection of songs to date, which was included in the 'Best of 2017' lists of many of Spain's leading magazines and newspapers. Established as one of the most inventive writers and producers of his home country's pop scene, Guillermo scored several TCM produced documentaries, such as When Bette Davis Bid Farewell, and Nostromo: David Lean's Impossible Dream.

REMATE
Remate is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with a classical formation (having graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff, UK). He has released 15 albums over the years, the most recent being Kitasato (2018), an album featuring electronic pieces about female characters from contemporary movies.

In 2015, he wrote the score to Orson Welles' "lost" film Too Much Johnson, and recently he worked with Spanish director Isabel Coixet for the soundtrack to El espíritu de la pintura, a documentary about the artist Cai Guo-Qiang. As a songwriter, he has been called "an extravagant Sufjan Stevens" (The Sunday Times). As a composer of film scores he operates somewhere between the minimalism of Terry Riley and La Monte Thorton Young, classical music, and electronica. He is currently mainly working in film and television.

It is the first time the two musicians, both staples of the Madrid underground music scene, work together writing a soundtrack. Moreover, apart from writing the music, they played all of it themselves, albeit with the help, on some of the tracks, from singer Alondra Bentley, and violinist Ana Galletero.

"Our aim was to write a timeless score, we weren't looking for the sound of one particular era. Although it's dissociated from the original film, I believe Kubrick would have liked it," says Remate about the album, which, in his opinion, features all aspects of both of its creators' sounds, both as composers of film scores and as songwriters. The latter aspect "has been key when it came to finding a way to make the music work both in the context of the film and on its own."

The film's director, Pedro González Bermúdez (of the 2012 Goya 'Best Documentary Short' award-winning Regreso a Viridiana, 2015 Goya 'Best Documentary' nominee When Bette Davis Bid Farewell, and 2017's Nostromo: David Lean's Impossible Dream) collaborated with the two composers at all times. "Pedro gave us clear directions with regards to the moods he was looking to establish, which helped us find the right sound. We worked on the development of the score for months. Wild Honey and I wrote our own stuff separately at first, then gathered all the sounds we had come up with, and started polishing. We controlled the whole musical process, including post-production and final editing, which is quite out of the ordinary. We were very lucky in that."
