For Sugar At The Gate, their third and most ambitious album to date, Montreal's TOPS peaced out to LA. They lived and recorded at Glamdale', a mini-mansion and former brothel located in the Jewel City, Glendale, CA. The unassuming record unfolds slowly, taking time to reveal itself. Like nearly everything TOPS does, multiple meanings overlap with the album's title referring to orgasm, but also to carrot chasing, gatekeeping, and the social contract.

Living in LA was living out a teenage fantasy,' says vocalist-songwriter Jane Penny, living with your band and practicing in the garage. It was also the first time we've ever had that much space to make music. I took the experience of living LA as a challenge to make music that I know is real to me, in the sense of it feeling true and containing true feelings, but also recordings of great songs, the real thing.'

Layers of sarcasm and sincerity seem to enfold the group like flower petals, yet TOPS' flawless musicianship and profound grasp of pop fundament are the surest sign that at the core, it's all as real as it sounds.

n describing Palm to the uninitiated, it's sometimes necessary to clarify the meaning of the group's name by raising one's hand in the universal symbol of greeting and goodwill. The act of corroborating the aural with the gestural occurs everywhere in their work. On their latest EP, Shadow Expert, the syntax of popular music is regarded suspiciously and often subjected to revisions or reversals. Without formal training in their instruments, the players are left to determine their own musical language.

Eve Alpert and Kasra Kurt's guitars occupy themselves most often with the pace-keeping work typical of a rhythm section. Meanwhile, Gerasimos Livitsanos' bass and Hugo Stanley's drums seem to perform commentary and reportage from deeply embedded positions at the front. Their contributions remain necessary to the composition, generating the kind of friction that other motion can be charted against: the grinding of teeth, the turning of an engine.

The record begins with the skittering appeals of one guitar to another, hard-panned left and right. They produce a groove, stop on a dime, and begin a series of nimble paces that might suggest the artful recovery from a skipped step. Here and elsewhere, the guitars confer and conspire with each other, finishing phrases and figuring it out. There is a faint delay to be heard in their communication, perhaps equivalent to that which exists between an object and its shadow, broken across several surfaces.

On the vocal track, Alpert and Kurt trade the barbs and bristles of a familiar argument and share the blissful cries of discovery. The 'How could I forgive that / How could I forget that' refrain of 'Two Toes' recalls the capricious turns of the gut in moments of grievance and doubt. These sonic and thematic dissonances are sustained, rather than resolved. This music draws the thought as it bounces around the head, draws the conversation as it circulates the room. Its most important questions are never answered but always rephrased.

On 2015's Trading Basics, Palm's experiments were more alchemical, more preoccupied with the impossible. Much of that music was submerged in some viscous and delicious substance, which often seemed to burn and bubble over. Two years and several tours of the United States later, the group sounds more limber, more acclimated to the press of events. At seventeen minutes in duration, these six songs are efficiencies of form, cutting quickly and decisively among scenes of bodies, systems, and intrigue.

90s NYC indie heroes The Van Pelt have had a lasting power far greater than so many of the other once bigger bands of that era have had. The sort of interest that has neither waxed nor waned over the decades since they disbanded, yet just mysteriously continues on despite their discography being out of print since the end of the last millennium. So what is it that sets them apart Too soft to have ran with the AmRep or Touch and Go crowds, not hip enough to have made sense on Matador or Merge, ernest yet not histrionic enough to make it onto the 'best emo bands' lists, not weird enough to be on bills with Arto Lindsay and Thurston Moore, etc. In a sense, their outsider status comes not from the wings, but from the dead center eye of the storm. The 90s were happening all around them, they were witnesses thereof, yet they emerged transcendent of it all. You Follow Maybe it's worth having a listen to see what I mean.

Barcelona's La Castanya records is treating us with the first ever rerelease of the two Van Pelt albums to mark the 20th anniversary of Sultans of Sentiment, their benchmark album. They teased us in 2014 that this might be on the docket with the release of Imaginary Third, a collection of singles and unreleased Van Pelt tracks which were originally intended to have been the components of their third album, including the alt-famous 'Speeding Train'. Now we'll finally have access to their entire discography. The first album, Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves is an explosion of anthems belted out as if the war was already lost yet they were hoisting that tattered banner anyhow until there wasn't a shred to salvage. The momentum coming out of that album had every major label in the States salivating at the possibility of turning them into the next Nirvana. Instead, The Van Pelt followed it up by pulling the van into the garage, leaving the engine running, funneling the exhaust into their lungs, and blissfully deciding to bow out of the race with the epic Sultans of Sentiment. Of course as the story goes, their intended financial flop was the exact opus that jettisoned them into the history books. Buy both albums. You'll need them both.

Secret Samadhi is the third album by American rock band +LIVE+. It took its name from Samadhi, a state of Hindu meditation. The album with Eastern-tinged strings, sitars, and powerful guitars is co-produced by the band and Jay Healy. Crack-Up is Fleet Foxes' long awaited and highly anticipated third album. It comes six years after the 2011 release of Helplessness Blues and nearly a decade since the band's 2008 self-titled debut. Fleet Foxes has already released the album track 'Third of May / Odaigahara', a nearly nine-minute epic powered by piano and electric twelve-string guitar, string quartet, and the group's trademark sparkling harmonies. In addition, the band has announced new North American and European tour dates, including Latitude Festival on July 16.

All eleven of the songs on Crack-Up were written by Robin Pecknold. The album was co-produced by Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset, his longtime bandmate, collaborator, and childhood friend. Crack-Up was recorded at various locations across the United States between July 2016 and January 2017: at Electric Lady Studios, Sear Sound, The Void, Rare Book Room, Avast, and The Unknown. Phil Ek mixed the album, at Sear Sound, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. This Berliner post-punk three-piece boasts the kind of live show any band would work years to achieve: noisy, controlled, driven and absolutely rocking, post-punk noise at its best. The album was recorded by Tadklimp, known more for his electro-acoustic wizardry on records by Mother Of The Unicorn, Fenster, Slow Steve, Oum Shatt and Saroos than for recording noise-rock. The Distance to Here is the fourth studio album by the band +LIVE+. The band called on producer Jerry Harrison to recapture their unique raw energy and emotion.

The Distance to Here is filled with plenty of guitar riffs, thunderous tempos and a mystical aura and regains the aggressive intensity of Throwing Copper (MOVLP414) from 1994. The album derived several hit singles including The Dolphin's Cry', Run To The Water' and They Stood Up For Love'. The album reached the top spot in the album charts of Australia, Belgium and Canada and reached the top 10 in almost every album chart in Europe.

Come Clean is the the highly succesfull major-label debut and second studio album by the American rock band Puddle of Mudd. Originally released in 2001, the album's music was responsible for breaking Puddle of Mudd into the mainstream music scene. The album reached the Billboard 200 Albums chart peaking at #9. It has sold over 5,000,000 copies and was certified 3 times platinum by the RIAA.

The lead single Control' was also the theme song for WWE's Survivor Series 2001, which was critically acclaimed. The second single off the album, Blurry' turned out to be Puddle of Mudd's most successful single, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 in the UK Singles Chart, and also winning an ASCAP song of the year award. Drift & Die' was also released as a single spending six weeks at the No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart. He rapidly started gaining a tight-knit following in his home country The Netherlands as well as the rest of the world. In addition to his own music, ludoWic writes and produces for and with others. For five years there has been rumbling about his band. The band's story began in 2012 in a basement bar in the Belgian quarter of Cologne. The three local musicians did not even have a band name back then, but their first set stood like a rock. It was loud and chaotic, half Einstu¨rzende Neubauten, half Suicide. Those present just could not believe what they saw: conceptually, they were still in their children's shoes, but the intensity of the music and the joy of experimenting took everyone out of their shoes.With a few more gigs, WOMAN continued to develop. The band sounded electronic and cosmic, funky and psychedelic. Yet a frst attempt to record the songs failed. "Our goals were much too high back then", says Manuel Tran, guitarist, singer and keyboarder. "So we just dropped the songs. It was hurtful, but it was a necessary decision" adds Milan Jacobi, the drummer. Carlos Hufschlag, second keyboarder and second singer, became an important new addition to WOMAN.

The Fever EP reached 500.000 Streams on Spotify up to date.In summer and autumn of 2016 things went crazy: the band played festivals such as Haldern, MS Dockville, Melt! Festival & Reeperbahn Festival (nominated for an Anchor Award). Roosevelt / Marius Lauber recorded a remix of Touch, which was frst aired by Huw Stepehens in his show on BBC Radio1. Finally, 1Live-music- connaisseur Klaus Fiehe told his audience that no other new band was talked about as often as WOMAN at the music industry festival Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen- and the guys from Cologne weren't even present.

This valuable work is expensive of course, and decent recordings can also be made significantly cheaper on a laptop with a software such as Ableton live. "But we were not going for a decent sound. This was simply out of the question for us", says Manu.WOMAN grant us HAPPY FREEDOM but they have the courage to ask us to do something for it as well, as they deliver the soundtrack for a life in HAPPY FREEDOM. Bastet is the second album of LCC (Ana Quiroga and Uge Pañeda).

Bastet is a ritual study gliding the path from the rites of the ancient to the realm of the modern.

Bastet is the name of the ancient Egyptian goddess closely linked to music and female power who coerced humans to entertain her in order to keep her untamed animalistic side in check. Whilst absorbing this legend the second LCC release presents itself as a vast canvas of ritual, restraint and spacious sonorities. Stark and unnerving Bastet is not reliant on pure electronics as abstract theatre but rather utilises these tools to conjure a world circling the spheres and planes of symbolic human activity.

Recorded throughout 2016 among residencies at the legendary studios EMS of Stockholm, the Inter Arts Center of Malmö and their own studio in Gijón, Bastet is a rich experience: cryptic, visionary and utterly compelling. 8 tracks laying forth a deep listening journey into the netherworlds of human experience, movement, ritual and space.

Young Gun Silver Fox celebrate spring & summer 2017 in style. With the release of their debut album "West End Coast" in late 2015 they revived the classic West Coast sounds of the mid and late 1970s.
"Long Way Back" is a hidden treasure and a perfect song for a long summer night, which closes "West End Coast" and it is about time to feature it on a single release of its own: "This song is very special to me," says "Young Gun" Andy Platt. This 7inch release also features "Lolita", a previously unreleased track by "Silver Fox" Shawn Lee and "Young Gun" Andy Platts.

Creme de Hassan is a collaborative effort and project of Paul LaBrecque (Head of Wantastiquet, Sunburned Hand of the Man) and Ghazi Barakat (Pharoah Chromium. This is the second release for Inversions, and the first full length album. PR is currently underway courtesy of the Berlin-based Dense Promotion. So far the record has been played on the digital radio stations ByteFM, Eldoradio and Ondefurlane. Divide him in half and you split the genders, into quarters and you get Amy Hill (also of Constant Mongrel, School Of Radiant Living), Xanthe Waite (Mick Harvey Band, Primo), Zephyr Pavey (Eastlink, Total Control, Russell St Bombings) and Al Montfort (UV Race, Dick Diver, Total Control). Guitars, bass, drums, all four sing. Terry are busy people and Terry is a particularly active project too, having released two EPs and a full length album ('Terry HQ') last year on Upset The Rhythm.

After returning from summer 2016's European tour, Terry set about writing a new album of songs. These are now grouped together as 'Remember Terry', an album full of wish fulfilment, critiqued characters, memorial muscle and historical hustle.'Start The Tape' is a not quite two-minute careen through what Terry are best known for; gang vocals, chased-down melodies and acerbic commentary. 'The Boys in Blue are no nonsense, but no nonsense just won't hold up' they assert throughout the song, amid unbridled drum rolls and keyboard sirens.

Terry draw on their everyday realities to make personal conclusions; 'I can't live here, I can't leave here' they collectively sing through the strummed guitars and skittling synths of 'Heavin Heavies'. Somehow the serious nature of the themes handled in their songs are only further emphasised by the tuneful, arguably 'sing-along' treatment Terry usually employ. 'Give Up The Crown', 'The Colonel' and 'Gun' are other prime examples of this, packed full of assembled vocal harmonies, contagious riffs and rhetoric.

With tracks like 'Glory' and 'Homage', Terry allow us for the first time to see a more laid-back side of his personality. Supplemented with fluorescing synth lines and adopting an unhurried pace, both songs lull you into a false sense of pleasantry, only to pack a greater punch when lyrics like 'Off his bloody head goes' or 'No head, no choice, no land, no time, no crime, no good' surface. 'Take Me To The City' is a similarly evocative stroll through the 'bright night city lights', with Amy and Xanthe listing their nightlife observations over languorous guitar lines and programmed drums. Their 'all they talk about..' refrain drifts off effortlessly into dazed disclosures. Terry prefer to make a profound point in a quiet way, hectoring bypassed for self-revelation. The truth is in there, just skating below the surface of their glammy, country-stepping punk/pop odysseys, we only have to listen carefully.

'Remember Terry' is a fitting follow-up to last year's celebrated debut album. Ideas are pursued and new ground explored. Throughout this expansion of sound and subject-matter though, Terry remain committed to telling it straight, reporting from the frontline of the political made personal. SWANS have announced a remastered reissue of their ninth studio album, The Great Annihilator, out on 5th May 2017 on Mute.
The Great Annihilator, originally released in 1995 and described at the time as ...a majestic symphony of haunting melodies and shifting moods' (SF Bay Guardian), will be released on double vinyl and as a 2CD set.
Both the vinyl (in the form of a download code) and CD will feature Drainland, Michael Gira's debut solo album recorded at the same time as The Great Annihilator.
The album was entirely remastered by Doug Henderson, but only after Bill Rieflin ( honorary Swan a revelation of great sonic effect'. Talking about the recording, Gira said I lived in a tent in a mosquito infested studio right next to Cabrini Green in Chicago for what () something like 3 months, rarely leaving. Band members and Jarboe and Bill Rieflin etc came and went, and somehow we crafted this thing into what it became.'
