Re-issue with a new lower price !! For starters, this platter begins with one of the great intros of all time: Ladies and gentlemen, there are seven acknowledged wonders of the world. You are about to witness the eighth...' Lodged in a deep groove between the JB's' debut LP Food For Thought (1972) and the more complex and at-times political Damn Right, I Am Somebody (from 1974) sits the ridiculously vampy and infectious classic, Doing It To Death. First moving hips and making heads nod in 1973, the James Brown-produced, 5-song album is one big funk lick, broken up into many delicious moving parts. As with pretty much everything produced by the JB's - led by Fred Wesley with heavy help from a supporting cast that included saxophonist Maceo Parker, guitarists Jimmy Nolen and Hearlon Cheese' Martin and drummer John Jabo' Starks - all songs began and revolved around a devastating riff. The title track is most certainly guilty-as-charged, as it starts strutting right out of the gate and continues for just over 10 minutes, driven by a guitar lick and MCed by the inimitable James Brown, with soloists stepping up and out while the song chugs on. The other centerpiece of the album is the 8-minute You Can Have Watergate Just Gimme Some Bucks And I'll Be Straight,' whose groove is interestingly teased two times before it arrives in full form. The song title itself is provocative, and the music keeps a stone-cold groove despite the less than cheery undertones. Again driven by an infectious guitar morsel, the breakdowns in this song gave sampling producers and DJs sweet dreams in the '80s, and Fred Wesley's trombone solo rides beautifully over the group's cries of We need some money.' Beyond the aforementioned sure-shots, the twitchy More Peas,' La Di Da La Di Day' and the much jazzier, solo-heavy Sucker' round out this incredible album. It's just another perfect example of how James Brown's funk machine could stop the world when they hit a groove.

Mollie Marriott is very proud of her heritage (daughter of former Small Faces and Humble Pie singer/guitarist Steve Marriott and step-daughter to singer Joe Brown) but it does not daunt her, she is ready to go it alone and will release her debut album Truth Is A Wolf'.

Says Mollie, I'm really excited about the album. It features a lot of different styles and I think it really showcases my vocals. We have a lot of fun making the album and I hope people enjoy listening to it. I can't wait to perform the songs when we tour with Bad Touch in the UK during November.

Mollie collaborated with Paul Weller on the album's title track "Truth Is A Wolf" and also "King Of Hearts". Paul is undoubtedly one of the most influential British artists of his generation, and the album's quality is testament to his involvement.

Control' is the first single taken from the album, and is supported by an official music video.

Control is all about taking back control of my music,' says Mollie. It was important so this was the right single to start with. I'm in the driver's seat going where I want to go. I co-wrote the song with Sam Tanner, lead vocalist with Brother Strut. We knew right from the beginning Control was the perfect song to release as the first single from the new album.'

Mollie began writing the debut album in Nashville and has fond memories of the recording process. She teamed up with Paul Weller whilst recording, who appears on two tracks, Truth Is A Wolf' and King Of Hearts'.

Says Mollie, I went to Nashville to start writing the album. The title track 'Truth Is A Wolf' written by Gary Nicholson, he was going to give it to Bonnie Raitt or Susan Tedeschi - two artists who are big influences to me. I heard the demo just wurli and vocals and thought it summed up my album. It was the perfect tile song.'

A lot of the songs reflect my life. 'Broken' is all about ending a relationship and the effect that had on me and my daughter. It's a rock album, but there are also elements of gospel and country. It's grungy, too. I am a grunge girl. I love Chris Cornell and Pearl Jam. Alanis Morrissette's 'Jagged Little Pill' is a favourite album of mine, and also a big influence.'

The Eminent Stars - Bar Shift

The Eminent Stars were founded by saxophonist Ben Mendes and drummer Toon Oomen. They both share the love for the great music emerging from cities like New Orleans in the 60's and 70's: Dr. John, Freddie King, The Meters and many more! Just mix up some soul, Rhythm & Blues, funk and Blues and there you have it: a sound that consists of authentic elements: it's danceable, intriguing, vibrant and fresh!

Their debut Sittin' In (Tramp TRLP/CD-9035) was released in february 2014, accompanied by a 45RPM single to support the album. In the past three years the Eminent Stars heavily toured in
their home country as well as Europe. They kept writing new songs and here we go with two new, fresh cuts. "Bar Shift" features guest vocalist Bruce James while "Brown Thang" is a smokin' blues-funk instrumental. These two sides give you an excellent foretaste of their second full length album, scheduled for release in early 2018.

Link Wray - Link Wray

Link Wray

Link Wray

Future Days
30.08.2017

Recorded in a shaky makeshift chicken shack in rural Maryland, Link Wray's eponymous 1971 solo album is a compelling and forward-looking piece of honest, handmade Americana. Check !
.
This album is vastly different from his previous work, foregoing instrumentals entirely. Instead, Wray, left with only one lung following a bout with tuberculosis in 1956, gives us his raw voice, full of spit and vinegar, as he blends elements of country, rock 'n' roll, roots, folk and gospel marked with fuzzy guitar and booming percussion. He kicks off with a track, La De Da', that may be the greatest song the Stones never wrote. Elsewhere, the single Fallin' Rain' channels Dylan at his most political, with lyrics about stabbings and shootings and young men dying all around.' Link Wray proved to be the only album that the guitarist issued in his own name to hit the American charts during his nearly 50-year recording career. Although it didn't receive much critical acclaim at the time of its release, Link Wray has seen a resurgence in recent years and developed a cult following, with artists from Nick Cave to The Neville Brothers recording versions of its tracks.

Link Wray's musical journey began early, with his father Fred taking up the family music business. Link, along with brothers Vernon and Doug began playing together professionally in 1942, their rowdy instrumental single Rumble' charting at number 16 in 1958. Following a string of hits on Philadelphia-based Swan Records, Vernon began to serve as the family's producer, eventually starting his own studio, first in the basement of his home and then-after his wife Evelyn complained about the noise-in a converted shack on the property. It was there that Link, Vernon and producer Steve Verroca found a sound that marked a return to simplicity.' This carefully remastered reissue will take you right back to that chicken shack, and to sessions so electric you can almost feel the atmosphere.

Blind Faith Records is proud to unveil one of soul/blues music's true hidden gems, Caron 'Sugaray' Rayford. At 6'5,' Sugaray is a vocal giant in every sense, but on stage he moves with pure grace and energy.

His music has even been endorsed by the legendary Brian Wilson, who could hear the star quality in this undiscovered jewel. Somehow, to most people, he has managed to slip through the net, but not any more. Italian soul ambassador Luca Sapio made it his mission to bring Sugaray's music to the forefront and tracked him down to record his latest album, 'The World That We Live In.' It was recorded in Luca's analogue studio in Italy, with racks of vintage gear and a killer house band. What they have so magically created is an album which sounds like an instant classic.

When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is palpable when he takes to the stage, his dynamic voice is large just like the man and stands up to comparisons with all-time greats of soul, blues and old-school R&B such as Solomon Burke, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass.

Texas-born Sugaray began his musical career at the tender age of seven, singing and playing drums in church, and his gospel influences definitely shine through in his music. The soulful gravel in his voice hints at his first-hand experience with hardship, and a childhood marked by poverty and loss.

With the help of Blind Faith Records, Sugaray is focused on presenting his latest project, 'The World That We Live In,' a collection of ten original songs and his debut soul album, to the world. It carries the gift of universal appeal that towers above tastes and trends, and it's an album destined to become an instant classic.

Another great album from Canada's legendary Paragon label, a set of super bluesy psych demo tapes from 1968.

The band's album "Stink" was received not just as a great album of electric blues, but as some sort of revelation when it appeared in the second half of 1969. But lead guitarist Mike McKenna had spent time ('67-'68) in the Ugly Ducklings, and had already developed a 'local hero' tag by playing hard electric blues as a member of the legendary Luke and the Apostles. Together, he and Joe Mendelson made arrestingly earthy music, which soon attracted another of Toronto's rock gods of the day, bassist Denny Gerrard from the Paupers, whose legendary talents had served him well on the stage of the Monterey Pop Festival, where his work with the Paupers was (and still is) considered a highlight. The material included on this disc, rough and searing demo material, is arguably even more rare and interesting than that on their classic McKenna Mendelson Mainline "Stink" album.

As Buck tells it, 'One day I was watching Austin City Limits and Dwight Yoakam was on, then he dedicates the program to 'Buck Owens.' So I said, I'm going to see what this kid is like.' It wasn't long after that he was on stage with Dwight singing his old hits. Buck was bitten by the bug to return to music, after calling
it quits almost ten years earlier.

This man from Sherman, Texas - probably best-known as the wide-grinning rube on Hee Haw for so many years - started a country music revolution. Or more accurately, a counter-revolution. It was called 'The Bakersfield Sound.' He and fellow revolutionary Merle Haggard were cranking out raw, hard-driving honky-tonk music that stood the country-pop coming
out of Nashville on its head. When Buck Owens and the Buckaroos would launch into 'I've got a tiger by the tail, it's plain to see....!' the packed crowds would be on their feet and headed for the dance floor.

Along the way Buck inspired none other than The Beatles to record their first country song, his classic 'Act Naturally,' and the master of soul, Ray Charles, to immortalize one of the best-known country songs ever, 'Crying Time'.' - Terry Lickona (producer 'Austin City Limits')

Juicy Lucy is a British blues rock band officially formed on 1
October 1969. After the demise of The Misunderstood, Juicy Lucy was formed by steel guitarist Glenn Ross Campbell, and prolific Blackburn saxophonist Chris Mercer. The group later recruited guitarist Neil Hubbard, bassist Keith Ellis, and drummer Pete Dobson.

Juicy Lucy is the debut album by the Anglo-American band, also released in 1969. The music is a curiously heavy form of blues-rock, often played at break-neck speed. The album's cover was highly noticeable as it featured a burlesque dancer named Zelda Plum, naked except for a covering of fruit.

The band immediately notched a UK Top 20 hit with their cover version of the Bo Diddley composition Who Do You Love', which fast and mean and powered by a vicious guitar to make your fingers bleed.

Various - The Rough Guide To Hillbilly Blues

25

An album which highlights how early white country musicians were heavily influenced by the blues, it includes many forgotten gems by artists shrouded in mystery as well as tracks by early country music pioneers Jimmie Rodgers, Charlie Poole and Dock Boggs. It explores the incredible musical exchange between black and white musical cultures in the development of the blues and features mesmerizing bottleneck and fingerstyle blues guitar playing.

When the Country blues was first recorded in the mid-1920s, it was not only played and appreciated by African-Americans but also by white performers and audiences alike. During this time, it was common practice for record companies to separate the music of the American South into two categories: the 'race' series, aimed at a black audience, and the 'hillbilly' series, aimed at white audiences.

This division along racial lines was in fact superficial, as black and white musicians shared much with respect to genre and repertoire and the separation of the two on commercial recordings grew out of the prejudices of record companies. Often overlooked is the fact that there was a huge amount of musical exchange and interaction between white and black musicians at this time.

John Weldon J. J.' Cale was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Though he avoided the limelight (being temperamentally averse to celebrity), his influence as a musical artist has been widely acknowledged by artists like Mark Knopfler, Neil Young, and Eric Clapton, who described him as one of the most important artists in the history of rock.
J.J. Cale is considered to be one of the originators of the Tulsa Sound, a loose genre drawing on blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz.

Cale unfortunately passed away in 2013, but his legacy lives on.

Number 10 is Cale's 10th album and contains another wonderful and laid back/mellow collection of typical J.J. Cale tunes. Traces', Artificial Paradise', Low Rides' and Jailes' are considered part of his best 1990s songs.

We celebrate the 25th anniversary of Number 10 by pressing a limited run of 1.000 copies on 180 gram silver vinyl.
