- 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE VINYL
- GATEFOLD SLEEVE
- GRAMMY AWARD 2004 WINNER IN THE CATEGORY
'BEST TRADITIONAL BLUES ALBUM'

The album is all acoustic and dedicated to John Lee Hooker with the line, In Memory of John Lee Hooker. You are missed.'

Not known for his acoustic work, Buddy Guy unplugs for a rare album-length excursion into folk blues. The guitarist gets down and dirty with 12 tracks that sound like they were recorded after hours in his living room or on his back porch.

Guy's stinging leads are still evident as is his emotive voice, but both are less flamboyant in the unplugged setting. Accompanied by spare stand-up bass and brushed drums, Guy sounds nearly possessed on covers from Skip James ( Hard Time Killing Floor'), Johnny Shines ( Moanin' and Groanin''), Son House ( Louise McGhee'), and John Lee Hooker ( Sally Mae') among others. It's a low-key, low-down affair made for late nights, rainy days, and the saddest of moods.

Guy is just as convincing here--arguably more so--as on his barnstorming electric albums, making Blues Singer one of the bravest and most poignant albums in his catalogue.

The album earned Guy the 2004 Grammy Award for 'Best Traditional Blues Album'.

By 1959 the folk revival was nearly in full swing, pushed forward by the likes of Pete Seeger, and was in fact the first year of the Newport Folk Festival. In that light, John Lee Hooker took a break from his Chicago electric blues recording career and returned to his country blues roots with an acoustic blues LP that featured the stripped down sound of just Hooker and his acoustic guitar. Essential acoustic blues reissued on 180 gram LP with download code.

Madmua Records
31.10.2017

450 copies numbered and signed by the members of the band, with a booklet of 12 pages.

Albert Puig, Andreu Ferreres, Joan Pujol, Miquel Griño and Xavier Amela, five friends from Barcelona, shared their talent to create Los Jemax in the mid-sixties. They played their own songs and covers of the bands they listened to the international radio stations, such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Bob Dylan, The Animals, Wilson Pickett... Their gigs in clubs and discotheques (San Carlos Club, Gogo, Peter's Club...) were amazing and full of energy. They became a very popular band in their city, specially when they were the winners of a contest hosted by Radio Barcelona. The prize was a contract with Columbia to release two singles. They recorded four songs under the direction of José María Solá, the musical boss of the label. There were published three postcards to promote the upcoming 7's. But all of them were never released because of intern changes in Columbia. Los Jemax played alongside Los Canarios, Lone Star, Los Sirex, Tete Montoliu, Palito Ortega, Micky y los Tonis... and in several TV commercials. With a repertoire of almost 100 songs that they recorded in the rehearsals at the attic of Joan's family house, the tapes have been ketp in a drawer for 50 years. Now, Madmua Records shares these gems with you. The dreams of these boys have become real.

The Heath Brothers - Marchin' On!

The Heath Brothers

Marchin' On!

12inchEVERLANDJAZZ001
Everland Jazz
19.09.2017

This obscure and difficult to find LP is the Heath Brothers' debut album and is considered to be their best. 'Marchin'on' is unquestionably a masterpiece and is a much sought-after album. With its wealth of riffs, it is much appreciated by samplers and has been sampled by various contemporary artists. It was originally released in 1976 on Strata-East, a label at the time co-owned by Stanley Cowell. The album flows fluidly, meticulously in a warm rich blend with the four part 'smilin' Billy suite being a tour de force on its own. All suites have the same anchor in melody but each branches out to its own distinctive song varying from relaxed to light to dramatic and upbeat. The Heath Brothers was formed in 1975 by brothers Jimmy, Percy, Albert Heath and the much celebrated pianist Stanley Cowell in Philadelphia. The band later on continued with the brothers and alternate new members, with at one point the very talented 'Mtume' who is Jimmy Heath's son, joining. - Rachel Kinoti

Plays & Sings The Blues' did not appear until 1961 on the Chess label, the songs found within are actually much older. The earliest songs Mad Man Blues' and Hey Boogie' were recorded in 1950, while the remaining tracks come from two sessions recorded in Detroit in March 1951 and April 1952 for Chess. This is also long before The Hook went electric, and all tracks feature an unaccompanied John Lee on acoustic guitar and vocals. House Of The Blues' collects 1951-1953 efforts by John Lee Hooker. Some important titles here are Leave My Wife Alone', the stark Sugar Mama', Ramblin' by Myself', Louise' and High Priced Woman'.

Bob Dylan's live performances are legendary, from his small Greenwich Village club beginnings, to going electric at Newport, to the incendiary shows across Europe with The Band in 1966. However, in a lifetime of amazing live shows, none are more epic than the Rolling Thunder Revue tour of 1976. Supported by Joan Baez, Jack Elliott, and long-time companion Bob Neuwirth, The Rolling Thunder tour was Dylan at his most unhinged, his most angry, and his most transcendent. Featuring wild, rollicking, powerful arrangements of old classics and recent tunes from Blood On The Tracks and Desire, this 1976 Fort Collins show is capped off by an epic, brutal, Idiot Wind'. Essential live Dylan radio broadcast released in a limited edition on red and yellow vinyl.

  • B3: Sanctuary

Miles Davis and his electric group of the early 70s is some of the most innovative and important jazz music ever set to tape. While the studio recordings are amazing, they often pale in comparison to the loose, improvisational and fiery heights that the group could reach in front of a live audience (as was captured on Live-Evil, In Concert, and Miles Davis At Fillmore, among others). This set from September of 1972 is no exception. Recorded just prior to the release of On The Corner, this stellar performance features tracks from that classic as well as Jack Johnson, and Bitches Brew. Featuring the great guitar work of his live band staple, Reggie Lucas, and the phenomenal saxophonist Carlos Garnett, this is early 70s electric Miles at its finest, a brilliant radio broadcast released in a limited edition pressing on blue vinyl with white splatter.

The Allman Brothers Band - Eat A Peach 2x12"

During the recording of this album, band leader Duane Allman was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Still reeling from their loss, the band nonetheless managed to complete this classic album with Dickey Betts on guitar. In tribute to Duane, however, they chose to bring the album to a close with a 34-minute jam taken from the Fillmore East sessions, which showcased what an amazing guitar player and force to be reckoned with Duane really was. Includes 3 bonus tracks and a replica of the original insert." The 4th Allman Brothers album, originally released in 1972. 180 gram virgin vinyl, deluxe gatefold sleeve.

Benjamin Booker has an excellent sound that mixes all the best hallmarks of classic soul and R&B with an edgy garage blues touch. Title track Witness features a guest vocal from Mavis Staples(!)

To coincide with the release of Witness,' Booker has shared a powerful personal statement recounting the song's origins on a writing trip he took to Mexico City, during which James Baldwin's observation that Once you find yourself in another civilization you are forced to examine your own,' took on the weight of experience. Am I going to be a witness' Booker asks in the statement (and the song). And in today's world, is that enough'

Read the full statement below and feel free to post On 'Witness,' Booker has created his most ambitious work yet by digging deep into his passion for eccentric soul, R&B, and blues, while never straying too far from the garage-punk intensity that made his self-titled 2014 debut such a creative breakthrough. The album's ten new, original tracks were all written by Booker, produced by Sam Cohen (Kevin Morby), mixed by Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes), and recorded at The Isokon studio in Woodstock, NY and New York City's Red Delicious studio. Booker will tour extensively behind 'Witness,' including a stop in Austin next week for SXSW, more dates and festivals to be announced soon.Booker's self-titled 2014 album was ATO's best-selling debut since Alabama Shakes, earning him festival appearances and tour dates supporting Jack White, performances on Jools Holland, Letterman and Conan, and features in the Sunday Times, MOJO, New York Times, Rolling Stone, NPR, GQ, and more. The Times hailed the album's raucous, unruly mix of punk, blues rock and soul,' and Q Magazine heralded a rush of raw blues-rock abandon', The Independent made it their Album Of The Week, calling it a mainlined shot of unrefined, blues-based rock'n'roll spirit that cuts right through', SPIN simply called it Contender for rock record of the year.'

A classic of incredibly strange music, electronica, pre Beatles Britpop, or all of the above...however you slice it, I Hear A New World was and is the masterpiece of that left field master of sound, Joe Meek...recorded as usual partly at home with secret equipment, and partly at the state of the art Lansdowne studio he pretty much designed, it is a full on spectacular action stereo extravaganza, almost unknown in British pop recordings of the time and for many years later....here beautifully remastered, and restored to its original track sequence as planned and advertised by Meek when he marketed it as an ideal stereo test recording for hi toned hifi shops....only an ep of less than half the assembled work was originally released....now here it is, on VINYL as it was meant to be heard....

Gemma & The Travellers - Too Many Rules & Games
  • A1: Too Many Rules & Games
  • B1: Save Me

"Gemma & the Travellers give a nod to the early deep Soul, R&B, Northern Soul and Funk of the Sixties but add a refreshing twist with their unique songwriting. With her powerful and distinctive voice, Gemma M. is a true Soul woman who left the south of Italy as a teenager with a small bag in her hand and a bit of cash in her back pocket. Travelling through Europe, she met Robert P., an Anglo-Swedish guitarist living in Germany at the time and formed a travelling duo, which ended up returning to Robert's hometown London. After many years getting sick and tired of the city's distractions, they looked for a more creative environment beside the sea and fell in love with Northern Brittany, where they formed the band Gemma & the Travellers with friends and musicians from down the road.Contrary to the ""Motown"" or ""manufactured"" model where the singer is rarely the songwriter, Gemma M. writes all of her songs with the help of Robert P. on the guitar. Her influences are Aretha Franklin and Julie Driscoll - genuine vibrations where life is your own creation! Recorded live at Lemoncake Studios in northern Brittany, producer Robert P. strived for an authentic and original Soul sound with a certain crunchiness and analogue distortion, like that of an old vinyl from the Sixties without falling under the overused retro banner. The title track of Gemma & The Travellers' upcoming debut album ""Too Many Rules & Games"" also is their first single, backed by a cover version of the Aretha Franklin classic ""Save Me"", available on 7inch vinyl and the digital version only."

Mohawkestra - Heart Full Of Soul

Mohawkestra

Heart Full Of Soul

7"-VinylRR003REED
REED Records
23.06.2017

Following the 2 previous sell out singles on Reed Records Mohawkestra return with a third salvo of the British Invasion flavour Funk! 'Heart Full of Soul b/w West Coast Boogaloo' available on 7' vinyl and download.

Heart Full of Soul was originally recorded by legendary British group The Yardbirds at a point when Jeff Beck joined and introduced Fuzz peddles and Guitar effects to their recordings. Mohawkestra's arrangement is an instrumental burst of heavy Organ and Guitar driven Funk that we've come to expect for their version and again they don't disappoint!

The flip side is a Mohawkestra original titled West Coast Boogaloo which would be right at home in a Jazzy lounge in California in the 60's, perfectly capturing the West Coast Jazz sound filtered through musicians playing in a British basement studio with a 50 year delay.

Allen Toussaint - Southern Nights
  • A1: Last Train
  • A2: Worldwide
  • A3: Back In Baby's Arms
  • A4: Country John
  • A5: Basic Lady
  • B1: Southern Nights
  • B2: You Will Not Lose
  • B3: What Do You Want The Girl To Do
  • B4: When The Party's Over
  • B5: Cruel Way To Go Down

Containing some of the best songs he's ever written, "Southern Nights" is Allen Toussaint's 1975 "swing for the fences" attempt at an all out masterpiece. Somewhat of a concept album, with reoccurring instrumental themes usually based on the title track popping up between songs, this album spawned at least two hits for other artists. The title track (minus the Lennonesque rotary speaker vocal effect) was a giant hit for Glen Campbell, and "What Do You Want The Girl To Do" was one of several singles on Boz Skaggs' 1976 gazillion seller "Silk Degrees" and also recorded with some success by Bonnie Raitt. On rust colored vinyl.
