Melanie De Biasio - Gilles Peterson Presents Melanie De Biasio : No Deal

Internationally renowned DJ and radio personality Gilles Peterson has called upon some of the most exciting names across the jazz, electronic and indie worlds to rework Melanie De Biasio's acclaimed album No Deal, including EELS, The Cinematic Orchestra, Hex, and Seven Davis Junior.

EELS haunting, orchestral reworking of opening track I Feel You is the first ever remix by Mark Oliver Everett (AKA E), who fell in love with De Biasio's music when she supported EELS at the Royal Albert Hall in June. The Cinemantic Orchestra give I'm Gonna Leave You an intense reworking, while beat maker C. Crisci, a.k.a Clap! Clap! gives the same track an afro-beat slant. Seven Davis Jr gives title-track No Deal an old school house flavour, while LA's Jonwayne coats With All My Love a lush balm of hip-hop. Japan's Toshio Matsuura (AKA Hex) adds an impressive urgency to The Flow, whilst France's modern classical composer Chassol provides a downtempo and discordant take on Sweet Darling Pain.

2014 has been a breakthrough year for Brussels-based De Biasio, who was recently announced the winner for Belgium of the 2015 European Border Breakers Awards (EBBA), which celebrate the best new pop, rock and dance acts in Europe which have achieved cross-border chart success. Other winners include Hosier (Ireland), MO (Denmark), Milky Chance (Germany), and Todd Terje (Norway).

No Deal received 4 star reviews from The Guardian, Mojo, and Record Collector, with Hi-Fi Plus awarding it 10 out of 10, saying "I think we have the album of the year on our hands." Her most recent single I'm Gonna Leave You was playlisted at BBC 6 Music, and last month De Biasio performed on Later...With Jools Holland, BBC2's flagship music show, becoming the first Belgian artist to be invited on the show since 1995.

His words conjure the image of lost love remembered and fleeting nostalgia as those heartbreaking strings soar along.

Mancunian tape enthusiast Ruf Dug has been turning heads all over the world in the past few months with his own unique strain of 80s soul, dub and yacht boogie.
His remix flies first class from Oslo to the Tropics, adding a lilting rhythm and a heavy Roland snare to create a digital dub supreme. As the track blossoms, the tape delay is so warm you can almost smell what Ruffy's been smoking and it has much the same effect.

On the flip, "The Sun Also Rises" is a lush instrumental interlude from Cottee, channeling Byrdsian jangle, music box melody and swooning strings laced with the woozy psychedelia that producers Mason Neely & Carwyn Ellis (Colorama) have made their own.
Cottee's delicate guitar sits perfectly within the more esoteric instrumentation, packing a real emotional punch.

Miles Copeland of The Superimposers dons his Wonderful Sound moniker to close out the EP with a gorgeous coastal rework of "The Sun Also Rises" that's as fresh as sea air.
Miles adds a backbeat groove and his trademark sea organ to remould Nev's instrumental as a Balearic sea shanty that's as English as fish and chips.

Warm, unusual, and with just a touch of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra about it, this is a Nado classic in the making.

La Roux - Trouble In Paradise [vinyl Lp]

Für Elly Jackson fühlte sich gleich alles richtig an, als sie sich der Welt als La Roux präsentierte. Das auffällige rote Haar. Das androgyne Image. Die sehnsuchtsvollen und dennoch wütenden Songs über verlorene und gefundene Liebe. Die eingängigen Pop-Hooks, eingebettet in skurrile Melodien, die der NME schon früh treffend als eine Mischung aus Bowie zu - Let's Dance'-Zeiten und dem ausgefallenen Electro-Pop von The Knife bezeichnete. Es war die perfekte Popsensation, ihre erste Single - In For The Kill' erreichte in den britischen Charts Platz 2, der Nachfolger - Bulletproof' Platz 1.

Der Erfolg stellte sich vielleicht über Nacht ein, aber auch der Sound von La Roux musste sich erst einmal entwickeln. Für Elly war die Musik schon immer eine Zuflucht, eine Möglichkeit, sich auszudrücken. Mit 13 begann sie, beeinflusst von Künstlern, die ihre Eltern hörten, darunter Joni Mitchell und Nick Drake, eigene Songs auf der Gitarre zu komponieren. Eine eigene Identität fand Sie jedoch erst mit 17, als sie Clubs, Tanzen und die endlosen Möglichkeiten elektronischer Musik entdeckte.

Die Welt war bereit für diesen Sound. Insgesamt hat La Roux weltweit mehr als 6 Millionen Singles verkauft, das gleichnamige Debütalbum ging 2 Millionen Mal über die Ladentische. Die Einzige, die das alles zu überraschen schien, war Elly selbst.

- Darauf war ich nicht vorbereitet', lacht sie. - Ich war 21 und habe noch bei meinen Eltern gewohnt! Die Platte sollte kalt und hart, irgendwie brüchig und billig klingen. Und das kam mir einfach nicht sonderlich kommerziell vor.'

Das Album wurde ein Jahr später in den USA veröffentlicht und erhielt einen Grammy als bestes Electronic-/Dance-Album des Jahres 2011. Daraufhin ging Elly auf Tour und verbrachte nahezu zwei Jahre ununterbrochen mit Konzerten und Promotion. Danach musste sie sich eine Auszeit nehmen und lernen, besser auf sich achtzugeben. - Das Touren hat mir wirklich Spaß gemacht', meint sie. - Aber es geht alles so schnell, man wird einfach mitgerissen und hat gar keine Zeit, das alles zu verarbeiten. Und dann holt es einen ein.'

Deshalb hat sie sich mit dem neuen Album Zeit gelassen. - Ich wollte, dass es noch besonderer wird, ich wollte noch eine Stufe weiter nach oben', erklärt sie. - Außerdem wollte ich, wie schon auf der ersten Platte, eigentlich alles selber spielen. Aber diesmal war die Instrumentierung komplizierter und da hat es eine Weile gedauert, bis ich alles draufhatte.'

Während der Arbeit am Album wurde Elly klar, dass sie sich musikalisch in eine andere Richtung entwickelte als Ben Langmaid, der schon beim Vorgänger mit von der Partie gewesen war. Zum Schreiben und Aufnehmen suchten sie eine Scheune in Devon auf, aber Elly gefiel nicht, was dabei herauskam. Letztlich entschied sie, dass der Tontechniker des Albums, Ian Sherwin, auch die Produktion übernehmen sollte. - Wir hatten ein grundsätzliches Konzept, bei dem Ian und ich komplett auf einer Wellenlänge lagen und das wir ausführlich diskutierten. Dabei ging es um die Vorstellung, die die Menschen in den 70ern davon hatten, wie die Zukunft aussehen und sich anhören könnte', erzählt sie.

- Das neue Album ist anders. Die Musik hat irgendwie eine warme, sexy Energie. Aber es ist immer noch absolut La Roux. Das merkt man an vielen Stellen, den Riffs und Hooks, die ich schreibe, und auch an meiner Stimme.

Als wir das Album aufnahmen, redeten wir viel über Dub und wir haben am Anfang oft den Begriff ‚Ragga Disco' verwendet, aber ich bezweifle, dass das jetzt noch jemand raushören könnte. Natürlich gibt es auch Disco-Einflüsse. Ich habe viel Nile Rodgers gehört, das habe ich schon immer. Eines Abends kam er dann im Studio vorbei, um rumzuhängen und über Musik zu reden. Am Ende bin ich dann beim Montreux Festival 2012 mit ihm aufgetreten, das war unglaublich! Aber ich glaube trotzdem nicht, dass es sich jetzt wie ein Disco-Album anhört. Es ist ein seltsamer Pop-Hybrid mit kleinen Einsprengseln von anderen Sachen.'

Trouble In Paradise ist von einer bestimmten tropischen Insel inspiriert, die sie seit ihrer Kindheit immer wieder besucht hat. Dort ist sie auch einer Person begegnet, die derjenigen sehr ähnlich ist, um die es in dem lässigen, man könnte sagen Electro-Calypso-Track - Tropical Chancer' geht. Es sei ein sehr schöner Ort, sagt sie, aber auch sehr arm, ein Ort, in den sich Besucher verlieben, dem die Einheimischen aber gern entfliehen würden.

- Im Urlaub frage ich mich immer, wie der Strand außerhalb der Saison aussieht, wenn er leer ist. Oder was die Leute, die im Restaurant immer so nett zu einem sind, wirklich von den Touristen halten, die kommen und gehen. Mich hat es schon immer fasziniert, wie es an einem Ort ist, wenn man ihn verlassen hat. Oder der Moment nach einer Party, wenn nur noch Ballons auf dem Boden liegen und den Ort eine komische Leere erfüllt, wo vorher so viel Freude war. Das war eine wichtige Inspiration für die Platte.'

Trouble In Paradise widmet sich der Dunkelheit, die hinter dem schönsten Lied lauert, den Zweifeln in den glücklichsten Beziehungen und Problemen jeglicher Form, seien es die Unruhen in Brixton, dem Londoner Stadtteil, in dem sie noch immer zu Hause ist (- Uptight Downtown'); Konflikte von Paaren (- Cruel Sexuality', - Kiss And Not Tell') oder freche Geschichten wie - Sexoteque'. - Darin geht es um einen Typen, der einfach nicht aufhören kann, in Sexclubs zu gehen. Dazu hat mich ein Club inspiriert, den ich in Montreal gesehen habe, als ich auf Tour war. Ich fand den Namen einfach großartig.'

Das Album ist diesmal weniger persönlich geworden, dafür reifer und ambitionierter, in seinem Inhalt aber auch verspielter. Doch auch wenn Elly Wert auf die Texte legt, ihre eigentlichen Geschichten erzählt sie mit der Musik.

- Wenn ich mir zum Beispiel das Album Young Americans anhöre, dann achte ich nicht so sehr auf Bowies Gesang', erklärt sie. - Ich finde die Musik viel bemerkenswerter, wie die einzelnen Parts zusammenkommen, die Synkopen, die Verspieltheit des Ganzen. Oder wenn man bei einem Song von Tom Tom Club ein kleines Geräusch hört und lachen muss, weil es so eigenartig ist.

Deshalb habe ich etwas erweiterte Versionen der Tracks gemacht. So kann ich die Musik der Songs viel besser erkunden, ich kann viel mehr machen. Diesmal wollte ich wirklich die Musik für sich sprechen lassen.'

London/Venezuela production duo Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel aka Los Charly's Orchestra take influences from Salsoul, Fania, Donna Summer, Cerrone, Herbie Hancock and even Jamiroquay and blend them with their very unique style of production in order to deliver their latest anthem of Neo Latin Disco.

After a few months of experimentation across different sounds Los Charly's are back into their main arena with an outstanding new single entitle Everlasting Love.

Los Charly's Orchestra were first known by their initial Disco/Funk period and more recently by their infectious Latin/Funk sound, which has been buzzing all around the place for the past couple of years.

This new single expresses a cross road in between the two periods of LCO bringing up a new perspective for the future of this outfit.

Sigur Rós released their fifth album, 'með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust' (English translation: 'With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly'), in June 2008.

With A Buzz... was co-produced by the band and renowned producer Flood and was recorded in New York City (at Sear Sound Studios), London (at Assault and Battery Studios and Abbey Road), Reykjavik (at Alafoss, the band's studio, as well as a church in Reykjavik) and Havana, Cuba.

'With A Buzz...', was the first album in the band's career to be made outside of Iceland. It was also their first album to feature vocalist Jon 'Jonsi' Thor Birgisson's vocals in English on one track (the remainder are sung in Icelandic).

Inspired by the unfettered feeling of the acoustic performances filmed during Heima, Sigur Rós decided to adopt a looser approach in the writing and creation of their brilliant fifth album. The material for the album was written, recorded and mixed entirely in 2008 and was released just one month after completion. The album glows with the perfect imperfection of live takes, the sounds of fingers playing guitar strings, cracked notes, and a stark, upfront presence not found in previous Sigur Rós recordings, moving away from the reverb-induced guitar sounds of old to something altogether more fragile and affecting. It also contains some of the most joyous music the band has ever recorded.

First song 'Gobbledigook' sets the tone ... with its shifting acoustic guitars, playful vocals, time signature shifts and swirling percussion, while 'Inni mer syngur vitleysingur' ('Within me a lunatic sings') sparkles as one of the most anthemic songs Sigur Rós have ever written. 'Festival' is epic in its elation and scope, 'Illgresi' ('Weeds') features one of Jonsi's finest vocal melodies over a lone acoustic guitar, and 'Ára bátur' ('Row boat') is the single largest musical undertaking in the band's career, as it was recorded live in one take with the London Sinfonietta and London Oratory Boy's Choir, a total of 90 people playing at the same time. The band also utilized the talents of their string-quartet friends Amiina, as well as a five-piece brass section on certain tracks, in addition to introducing the Mellotron into their writing/recording process for the first time on this album, specifically on one of the most tender and beautiful songs on the record, 'Fljótavík'.

The spirit of With A Buzz... is best captured by the album's stunning artwork, contributed by acclaimed visual artist Ryan McGinley. McGinley first met the band when he photographed Jonsi six years ago; the album cover was taken from a flyer for McGinley's most recent exhibit, I Know Where The Summer Goes, which happened to find its way into Jonsi's inbox just as the band was deciding on how to best visually represent their new collection of songs. The result is a perfect synergy of the aural and the visual.

Auf ihrem 13. Album gelingt der Queen of Pop ein Spagat, der schon im Vorfeld von etlichen Medien als Geniestreich gefeiert wurde: Madonna flirtet auf Rebel Heart mit zahlreichen Genres, bezieht auch die neusten Entwicklungen des Popgeschehens ein - und doch klingt das Album, mehr noch als die erfolgreichen Vorgänger, durch und durch nach Madonna. Darkel - The Man Of Sorrow (2015 Mini Album)

Darkel is the solo project of Jean-Benoît Dunckel, who is also known as half of the french duo AIR. His first solo album came out in 2006, at the same time as Charlotte Gainsbourg's '5:55' album that he produced alongside with his acolyte from AIR.

As well as participating to mythical soundtracks with AIR (Virgin Suicides, Lost In Translation, Marie Antoinette, Quartier Lointain, Pioneer...), Jean-Benoît composed the score of 'Bee', 'Je M'Appelle Hmm', and also the quirky film 'Cyprien' but always in a very organic and solar electronic spirit. Recently, Jean-Benoît finished the soundtrack of the film 'L'été de Sangailé' by Alanté Kavaïté, to be released in July 2015.

Hvob - Always Like This

HVOB have only just released their impressive debut album, but the next EP is already on the way: "Always Like This" is almost a tribute to the Vienna-based electronic duo's current wave of success. Number 1 in the iTunes Dance Charts in Austria and number 3 in Germany, number 3 in the Beatport Deep House Charts - and HVOB's eponymous debut album continues to win the band critical acclaim in a success story which began when the first snippets appeared on Soundcloud a year ago. HVOB's Berlin-based label Stil vor Talent, which is no stranger to success, has been delighted by one of its best selling albums to date. HVOB's third EP is scheduled for release on April 26 - and the track selection seems to be more than mere coincidence. "Always Like This" is an accurate reflection of the young Vienna electro duo's life right now. Anna Müller and Paul Wallner are "super happy" with the way things are going, busy as they are with all the live appearances in cities like Berlin, Paris and Istanbul, long nights spent in the studio and the formation of new partnerships: alongside Four Artists, Primary Talent, one of the world's major booking agencies, will in future be looking after the interests of HVOB. "Always Like This" is the third single from the album "HVOB". HVOB's cover of the track by British indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club mixes warm synth pads with soft beats, while Anna Müller's distinctive voice puts an entirely new spin on the melancholy of the original. Oliver Koletzki and Andhim have both made remixes of HVOB's interpretation of "Always Like This".

Over the years 40 Thieves have connected with likeminded labels including Rong Music and Permanent Vacation to release a small handful of original singles and EP's. One
in particular, 2008's 'Don't Turn It Off,' caused such a commotion it wound up on a few dozen CD compilations and was voted Best of the Decade by Beatport in 2010. Over the
next few years the Thieves had the chance to remix great artists including Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Gary 'Chocolate Star' Davis, Plastique De Reve, and Johnny Dynell.
Whether they're creating cosmic odyssey soundscapes or lazy mutant house, 40 Thieves like to interweave live instrumentation with programmed electronics, their sound would be equally at home at the Mudd Club circa 1983 or in the headphones of an Ibiza beachgoer circa 2083. Whether slack or upbeat, 40 Thieves always aim for the head as well as the foor.

Visti & Meyland - Open Your Arms

Copenhagen-based label Music For Dreams are proud to present the new single from Danish duo Visti & Meyland. Written and produced during winter in a remote forest cottage in the far north of Denmark, the two songs included here represent the pair's current state of mind. 'Open Your Arms' conveys the simple idea of openness - a desire to open your eyes, open your arms and carry on, despite the hardships in the way. The production is driven by a very catchy bassline, acoustic drums, mixed with analogue synths, arpeggiated swirls, vocals, piano stabs and a c-part reminiscent of 70s progrock - a funky track for the Balearic brigade. The next track Hand In Hand' started out as a homage to a Visti & Meyland favourite - 60's cult-icon Bob Lind - but took a completely different turn than originally intended and evolved into a beautiful love/relationship song with a summerish yet melancholic sound. Opening with vocals, gradually introducing slow vocoder beats, hand played analogue arpeggios, old-school picked bass and one-take improvised vocals, the track culminates in a piano potpourri of recent Visti & Meyland compositions. Remix duties go to Manchester DJ and production extraordinaire Be Garth Be who delivers a classic Chicago house-influenced dubbed out version of "Open Your Arms". Another strong package from the label that carries the Balearic flag in 2015.

In Elsewhere, the second fulllength album by Moullinex, you get a window into the past's soul, funk, garage rock, Brazilian music - especially when it comes to percussion and utes, which have an increasingly important role in its universe - these sounds come together and meet synths bursting with nostalgia for the future, all coexisting in perfect harmony and in such a way that never lets you forget for a second that the music is all coming from the same person. Not to mention, of course, the penchant for dance music and the focus on giving machines a human touch. What changes now is the way it distinguishes itself from Disco and House, which Moullinex has been linked with throughout the years - though it's still present -, either in his own singles, DJ sets or remixes for artists such as Sébastien Tellier, Röyksopp & Robyn, Cut Copy or Two Door Cinema Club. This said, it would be a gross inaccuracy to tag him solely as Disco: his sound is much more juicy than that, squeeze it and a lot more will come out.

Released in 2000, The Virgin Suicides was director Sofia Coppola's first feature film, Kirsten Dunst's first major screen role, and Air's first foray into film scoring. The Versailles duo Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin started to record the score by watching VHS tapes of the film during the autumn of 1998. Eerie, synthetic and tempestuous, The Virgin Suicides soundtrack's first single Playground Love' is the only vocal track, featuring vocals from Gordon Tracks (an alias of Thomas Mars, the lead singer for the band Phoenix). The Virgin Suicides soon became a cult soundtrack and one of the most celebrated albums in the electronic performers' fascinating discography. The score went on to be nominated for Best Soundtrack at the 2001 BRIT awards.

No (THe reLATIVe eFFecT oF eXPLIcATIoN) is XIII's first album, artist close to the Gang. Modular synth sessions along with vocal samples, munky drums and delay jams create an obscure journey, suspended between a primitive analogue world and the depths of a cybernetic one. Pads and harmonious weavings somewhere in between Wanda Group and Robert Turman and Actress' style beats.

An introspective tale unties itself along 9 tracks, 3 of which are featuring with artists who have been important to the Gang's journey so far, Traag, Vaghe Stelle and Sabla, who help in delivering a whole picture of what the philosophy behind the label is.

Based between Turin and Berlin, XIII develops musical concepts and deals with performing arts. The (im)perfect sound, the (not) punctual distortion or the (un)suitable atmosphere, are constantly researched by XIII through modular synthesis, computer music and field recording, crossing beats and genres towards something not easily definable.

A moniker born in 2013 for the "A Great Symphony for Torino" project, in collaboration with Kode9, Scratch DVA and Clubtoclub. XIII is about to release his first debut album on Gang of Ducks in April 2015.

Medical Records presents a very special release and selection of works from Austin, Texas' undiscovered and never before released electronic/ambient artist Kitty from the early 1990s. This band should have had a proper release in the 90s, so for a lot of people, this is a long overdue accomplishment. Formed in 1994 by guitarists Dain Luscombe and Brandon Loe, the band eventually became a trio with the inclusion of drummer Clint Thorman. Over a handful of four-track cassettes, CDR's, and one unreleased EP, Kitty developed a sound unique even in the burgeoning psychedelic and electronic music scene that occurred along the I-35 corridor from Austin, Texas north to Denton as well as a rabid cult following. From their earliest performances as a three-piece, it was apparent that Kitty's music put them in a peerage of electronic and experimental acts coming out of the UK like Seefeel and Insides rather than another Texan 13th Floor Elevators style psych band. Not that Kitty was without distortion or psychedelia. Track 1, "Harrison" has both elements and is culled from the band's unreleased EP. It erupts with a momentous throb of noise that grinds through the build up and at its instrumental chorus, lifts to soar. The track ends with an accelerating rave-up that's less go-go and more electronic auto accident. The delicate and often-flirtatious delivery of vocalist Dain Luscombe is introduced on "Eva," also from 1996's unreleased EP. However influenced by the pop sensitivities of Morrisey and then Smiths, Kitty's music represented a progression, where the opening sentiment of the lyric hangs for one pregnant moment before a tiny glacier of sounds crush the melody out by its duration. "Aquarena" showcases a fair bit of tape bleed, sounding like the flip side of a friend's mix tape until the Farfisa heavy, ambient drone takes overtakes it, buries it, twists and corrupts it, redefining the cassette tape saturation by the end of the song as a place to nest and contemplate the journey. "Rosannarquette" is Kitty at their funkiest and most energetic. Its metronomic and frantic throb was a familiar staple of their live shows and would often set the audience to dancing in venues where big-assed beers and cigarettes were more common pastimes. Late in the B-side we get a hint at a different band entirely with "Stella" and "Heartofmine." These were possibly the last, distinctively rockist moments Kitty exhibited before hitting its stride and leaving the safety of traditional song structures for more experimental progressions. "Herzog" represents the band at its peak. Electronics burble, rhythms build mathematically, and sound moves in lines and waves. Then it all careens to a stop, once again leaving us hanging, before tossing us into a tape-splice break and a final return of enveloping electronics. Fans of acts such as the aforementioned Seefeel, Insides as well as other pioneering works by Flying Saucer Attack and A.R. Kane will adore this collection. Mastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK. Presented on high-quality 180gram heavyweight blue vinyl. (Shipping week 11)

Twilight Ritual - The Ritual

FINALLY the time has come to re-release the first ever recordings by Belgian minimal synth masters Twilight Ritual. Released in 1982 in a tiny cassette edition this album has not been heard by many people. The Ritual" includes some of their best work, from mysterious dark synthpopsongs (Elegy) to club music (Webb-men) and the epic 14-minute track (Up To Now).

Twilight Ritual was/is the main project by Geert Coppens and Peter Bonne. During the early eighties they were involved in many other bands including Autumn and Linear Movement (both re-released on Minimal Wave), but Twilight Ritual is by far the most inspired project. The spirit of the band lingers on beneath the work of Autumn through A Split Second and stands besides the best tracks of bands such as Oppenheimer Analysis and League Of Nations.

Reissue of a soundtrack, originally released 1978. Yuji Ohno, is a Japanese jazz musician born in 1941. He's principally known for his musical scoring of Japanese animated television series, of which 'Lupin III' and the feature film 'The Castle Of Cagliostro' are his best known works. Ohno is also well-known as a member of the jazz trio which he forms with bassist Miroslav Vitous and drummer Lenny White. 'Captain Future' is a legendary soundtrack performed by Yuji Ohno and his You & The Explosion Band featuring Takao Naoi, Eiji Arai, Takeru Muraoka, Jake H. Concepcion and Pepe Anai. Produced in the late '70s, the famous Japanese Space Opera animated series was hugely successful around the world. The music combines space jazz funk, smooth jazz and deep grooves served by the Korg synthesizer and its particular sound. For fans of O.S.T.-releases this is a must have title.

Emil Germ - Adult Party Lp Sampler

Copenhagen's Music For Dreams delivers another strong package with the debut from Danish artist Emil Germ. Jane Weaver / Tender Prey - Don T Take My Soul / Undisputed Heavyweight

From an unassuming, self-sufficient musical micro-industry in the north of England comes more finely tuned fastidious femme pop from Jane Weaver and her growing Bird Records imprint with a new split single available of vinyl and download this spring.
Having garnered unanimous acclaim amongst critics, bloggers, radio programmers, likeminded artists, gig promoters and record shops alike, Jane's The Silver Globe LP has managed to top multiple end of year charts in 2014 and is still commanding the attention of new found fans on a daily basis - a feat deemed almost impossible for an artist with five previous albums to her name and a fervent loyalty to the independent anti corporation she has cohabited for the last twent years. With this mindset (plus good taste and talent) blooms independent pop music as it should be - adventurous, free, visionary and exciting - with Don't Take My Soul the Liverpudlian born Manc dweller has achieved just that. Singled out as a class favourite on an album that was awarded Piccadilly Records coveted Album Of The Year accolade (and has since commanded an entire year's worth of live commitments) Don't Take My Soul features extra production duties from Andy Votel and ends with a guitar solo from Badly Drawn Boy which sounds like a cryogenic experiment from his pre-Bewilderbeast days.
True to her co-op mentality Jane's first vinyl single from the LP (following a limited cassette single of the Dave Brock co-write Electric Mountain) shares vinyl sides with label mate Tender Prey (aka Laura Bryon) who brings her inimitable drummy saccharine tinged pow-wow punk to the fray with the effortless Undisputed Heavyweight Champion Of My Heart ripped from the forthcoming Organ Calzone cassette and download long player released later this year. Based in Cardiff with countless road miles shared on tour with H.Hawkline and Cate Le Bon (another Bird school alumni), Laura has stolen the hearts of unknowing live converts via support slots and Marc Riley endorsed radio sessions motivated by her own self-propelled god speed. Amongst a broad clutch of other artists, spanning 70 years of lost pop and new noise, Bird Records looks set for an airborne 2015. The Silver Globe is still turning and catching many a siege in its electric rays.

Half Lives is the Gizeh Records follow-up album to Baker's acclaimed 2013 album Already Drowning. While that album was built around the guest vocals of female singers - including Carla Bozulich, Jessica Bailiff and Geneviéve Castrée (O Paon) - Half Lives comprises two separate but interconnected albums and Baker's loose concept was that they would bridge the more abstract/experimental and song-oriented natures of his work. Both albums were recorded in August 2014 in Berlin and are the product of initial extended improvisations that were then arranged into coherent pieces - 'constructed' rather than 'composed'. In these senses, parallels can be made with artists such as Bark Psychosis, Low and The For Carnation, for whom experimentation with texture and timbre has never been a reason to abandon the song form.

Where these two albums differ is in their sonic pallettes. Mountains Sweat Clouds is based around the electric guitar whereas As I Walked On Dead Earth features primarily acoustic guitar. However, any sense that this might provide an easy separator is quickly erased by Baker's supreme skills at arranging and layering his material, featuring extensive use of organ, synths, percussion, field recordings and vocals. A mash-up of some Studio Rockers Heavyweights and some young bloods feature on this 15-Track compilation. Coming at you with a range of sounds from some of the finest production talent you've ever heard on the same compilation. Some strong tracks from Moody Boyz, Bunny on Acid, EVM128 and Marcel Lune also with some new names you'll definitely be hearing more of.

Starting off your journey with a guided introduction to the Studio Rockers' vibe for the new year from The Moody Boyz, a hot track with bass drops that just don't stop, already receiving big love from Tom Middleton and Joe Muggs with 'EAN' featuring on a Solid Steel mix.

Followed up by some more innovative world sounds from Nuphlo dropping an exclusive re-work of his single 'Nona', the Midlands based producer really showcases his ability refresh his approach and create new sounds.

'The Final Stage' is guaranteed to sound raw on any dancefloor, with an insane cacophony of bleeping and more bass than you'll know what to do with The Widdler continues to drop hard rhythms.

Bursting out of Karachi's budding electronic scene with clever rhythm juggling and serene vocal samples is Rudoh with his first UK release, 'Come To My Mind' recently gaining attention from VICE magazine over his Pakistan based label, Forever South.

'Locked' shows you with its unstoppable pulse and rich bass that Bunny on Acid is back and ready for a big year with Studio Rockers.

Dusk FM's resident DJ's Lyeform & Nomi release their first track with Studio Rockers, 'Get Lost', and it slips in with an ethereal soundscape cut short by a deep vocal before it goes into a tasty subby groove that keeps chugging along.

Then Marcel Lune stutters in sweeping and swimming sounds in 'Mungenden' until it concludes with some tantalising vocal sample play.

Popping straight out of the compilation at number 8 is a jumpy electronic number from Buckfunk 3000 pulsating drums and some synth wizardry, exactly what you need.

Next up a real banger from EVM128, a garage remix of his 'Naked Truth' single that gained a lot of radio support from Annie Mac and Monki on Radio 1 last year, now back with a remix. We know your going to feel it.

Straight in with some dark bass structures from Ollie Realness, another new name and sound to add to the Studio Rockers year, this warped, deep track gives a great contrast to some of the more ambient tracks on the compilation, truly showing the spectrum of current bass music.

Lewis Badwan is back after a big year with Studio Rockers slipping into his brooding, melodic 'Sea of Trees', the track hypnotises and swirls with swelling chords until it eventually crests and breaks with clever use of layered percussion.

Another return to Studio Rockers from Albert with 'Dripping The Who' coming hard with deep bass and a pounding four to the floor, a pumping track that'll keep you moving with some toasting-esque use of sampling.

Calming the vibe again some more new blood, Exposia creates interesting ambient textures with 'Hold Me Back' and then drops a tranquil female vocal that shows the contrast to the relaxed side of the Studio Rockers' New Year.

A glittery, shimmering track from another new name, Bhava is featuring the aptly named 'Shimmer' as the penultimate track for the compilation, tasty 808 sounds and such a gentle harmonic guitar part.

Rounding the compilation off with Smoke Signals' 'Let Go' with a massive bass and huge beat, innovatively orchestrated with beautiful reversed guitar sounds and an infectiously sweet vocal melody.

New names, some old Studio Rockers veterans and 15 fresh tracks are going to take you on a journey through the most exciting new bass music you're going to hear all year.

#7885 (Electropunk to Technopop 1978 - 1985) vereint zwei verschiedene Perioden ihres Schaffens, die Jahre 1978-81 und 1983-85, erstmals auf einer Veröffentlichung und folgt der remasterten Vinylausgabe von Red Mecca sowie des jetzt schon legendären (und ausverkauften) Box-Sets #8385 (Collected Works 1983 - 1985). Die Compilation reist von 1978 nach 1981, also in jene Zeit, als CVs Lineup aus Richard H Kirk, Stephen Mallinder und Chris Watson bestand, in erster Linie in den Western Work Studios in Sheffield aufgenommen und auf Rough Trade Records veröffentlicht wurde, und in die Jahre 1983 bis 1985, nachdem Watson die Band verlassen hatte und CV auf Some Bizarre/Virgin veröffentlichten.
