Georgia/ A Man Called Adam - Schleissen 7

"Things take a psychedelic turn for SchleiBen 7 with a welcome to the label of arch exponents of mind expansion in NYC's Georgia and the unlikely but no less diverse inclusion of Balearic stalwarts A Man Called Adam. Having Georgia in the series might not now be a surprise, however discussions with this open, genuine duo started during a visit to New York over 3 years ago and so here, finally realised in this fluid journey of confident pace and harmony, is the best of their freeform evocations. A duo in the everyday sense, Brian Close and Justin Tripp are video / music production teamsters of unnatural talent. Having gained a status of their own that has seen them release for the likes of Palto Flats and FTD, the five pieces that form their contribution drip with psychedelic intent. Culled from archives, the interest is how the tracks - made over different years, locations and situations in life - meld in to something poetic simply by being placed within a specific format. Avant-chimes ebb to rhythmic pulses and erudite teachings before dark percussion and Eastern melodies reach a clattering, but gentle finale. With an upcoming collaborative album with Secret Circuit due on the label later in 2018, as well as recent works with RVNG Intl's Matt Werth and recordings for Sacred Summits' brethren Firecracker Recordings, it's a warm, effusive glow of a welcome. In contrast, the inclusion of A Man Called Adam in the series may indeed surprise but is a false comprehension. The "Sketches" included here show AMCA away from their Balearic pop incarnation of the last thirty years and towards the academia that both members Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones have pursued in the last decade. With both completing PHDs, Sally ('The Diachronic Impact of Technology-Led Abstraction in Oral, Written and Music-based Poetries') is a senior lecturer at Leeds College Of Music, while Steve ('Mobilise: The Carry Principle, Sound and Mobile Media') is based out of de Montfort University, now is the perfect time to highlight the diverse sound environments they have been working in. The music that makes up these recordings are drawn from sound works and audio experiments completed in recent years. From sound toys and apps to home made glass organs and electro-acoustic sound, custom patches to spoken word manipulations, the sketches are excerpts - some evolved from commissions for the National Science Museum, BBC Radio 4 and live performances with the world renowned video artist Milosh JL - fused especially for this release. Bringing these generated pieces in to an audible "mix" creates a discourse of their work in performance, interactions and visual media. An intellectualised album therefore, but still in the premise of the series to allow artists to present something new, unique, discrete, hidden even, all with the aim of giving the recipient the chance to sit back and (un)listen. Okinawa Delays and Max Essa - I Can’t Sleep

The fourth single from Okinawa Delays (singer Satoko Ishimine and Okinawa-based producer Mizuki) is I Can't Sleep, a collaboration with Tokyo-based Balearic evangelist Max Essa.

This is a Balearic disco tune with a bassline reminiscent of the 80's electro-disco of Klein and M.B.O. and Gino Soccio, and a Japanese monologue that sounds like a daydream.

The Japanese monologue, penned by producer Mizuki himself, was inspired by his stay in Ibiza, and is an insomniac, daydream-like monologue of a girl after she returns from a party. (There is an English translation on the back of the vinyl sleeve.)

As always, her voice is great, but it's also interesting that the content is far from her innocent image.

The single features an original mix for the midnight dance floor as well as a dub version by Balearic master Leo Mas and a remix by Pete Herbert, perfect for the beach club or poolside.

Tomaga / Neil Tolliday - Schleissen 5

"Emotional Response returns to the SchleiBen series, with another offering of 4 split albums. Again artists are given free reign, encouraged to push the boundaries of their studio and live experimentation in form and texture. For parts 5 - 8 the net is cast wide, from the psychedelic moons of Tomaga to Matthewdavid's meditative live improvisation, a collection of A Man Called Adam's commissioned sound-works to Jon Keliehor's new age visions.
First Tomaga, a duo that grew out of engine of psychedelic rock outfit, The Oscillation, to become a respected entity of it's own. Featuring long time friend of the label, Tom Relleen and drummer extraordinaire Valentine Ma, the project has grown to become greater than the sum of its parts. With 4 albums in 3 years and one more upcoming - plus their ridiculously overlooked solitary remix of Not Waving for the label - the output doesn't come close to matching their live "events", from almost constant touring.
The 2 pieces were recorded in an improvised session as an interzone between their last album, which was recorded entirely in non-studio spaces and their newer material. Featuring heavily processed long form studio recordings, the pieces, with Tom's bass and audio manipulation set over Valentine's exemplarily, intricate percussive interplay, provide a perfect, brooding introduction to the second series of SchleiBen.
This is contrasted with the first 'official' solo output of Neil Tolliday. As Nail, he has gained respect for over 25 years crafting deep, bumpin' House music on labels like DiY Discs, Remote and Classic, including the sought after Big D's Lounge album. After a sojourn as one of half of off-kilter pop duo, Bent, the Nail moniker has been recently resurrected for a new generation of followers.
Throughout this time Neil has recorded more personal music, initially for his own consumption, however some recently starting surfacing under various pseudonyms via digital portals. No press, no information about who was really behind the music was given before being deleted soon after. After some encouragement, here then marks the first appearance of Neil Tolliday.
On the two tracks included, these drawn out, eastern influenced, drone ragas are pure meditation from Tolliday's 4/4 output. With an upcoming album on Emotional Response, more is to come.
A welcome return to SchleiBen then, due course to pause and reflect, emptying the moment to (un)listen.

Two Thou / Hobby Horse - Two Thou & Hobby Horse EP

Roots Underground is at its 6th release, with this new sophisticated EP.
A collab between italian producer, but Berlin based, Luca Murgia a.k.a. TWO THOU and the jazz ensemble HOBBY HORSE, composed by Dan Kinzelman, Joe Rehmer and Stefano Tamborrino.

Feats are very present throughout the whole record, like in the exotic broken beat opener THE CHASE (A1), where Eric Demuro bass licks intertwine with Kinzelman's flute and Two Thou beats.
INDIA SCI-FI (A2) is a sultry ambient painting, enriched by balearic flavours, courtesy of Mike Matias, sending the listener in a dreamy altered state.
The B side opens with a collaborative rework, CASCADE (B1) by Two Thou with Brooklin's Eric Porter, better known as Afrikan Sciences of an already released track by HOBBY HORSE (Helm, 2018)
Porter lays the drums and Two Thou morphs the hypnotic double bass/bass clarinet loop in a solid organic "house" track, with deep and dubby vibes, that will be appreciated by picky clubgoers everywhere.
The EP includes also the original version of CASCADE ( B2)

LATE NIGHT TALES
08.12.2020

Hot on the heels of ‘Mordechai’, the critically acclaimed third album from US psych-rockers Khruangbin, the Texas trio are set to become the latest act to present their own LateNightTales in the popular, long-running musician-curated album series.
Having first come to prominence in 2013 when producer and D.J. Bonobo included Khruangbin’s ‘A Calf Born in Winter’ in his own collection of songs for the series, the little known Houston trio had yet to release an album, but have since gone on to become international superstars forming their own exotic, individual sound. “The LateNightTales series is such a special thing to be a part of because we wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for Bonobo’s LateNightTales, because that’s how we got into the LNT family – and got a break.”

Hillside - Walpole Days (Joe Claussell mixes)

Few within dance music culture can truly claim to have developed their own distinctive, sharply defined sound. Sacred Rhythm founder Joaquin ‘Joe’ Claussell is one such artist, as is emphatically proved by the stunning remixes he’s prepared of Hillside’s ‘Walpole Days’ for Claremont 56. Claussell’s trademark-take on dance music is richly spiritual, frequently referencing the tribal drums and distinctive polyrhythms associated with African music, the free-spirited Afro-futurism of jazz, the soulful release of gospel and the celebratory rush of NYC disco. Throw in a genuine love of live instrumentation and a decidedly cosmic musical outlook and you have a style that’s very much his own.

Many of these trademark elements are evident on his versions of ‘Walpole Days’, a typically warm, evocative and musically detailed chunk of near horizontal Balearic jazz-funk from Paul ‘Mudd’ Murphy, Alex Searle and Patrick Dawes’ Hillside project. The trio’s original version boasts all manner of intricate musical touches – eyes-closed electric piano solos, ear-catching and infectious hand percussion, spacey analogue synthesizer sounds and fluid piano flourishes, for starters – giving Claussell plenty to play with. The New York-based DJ/producer makes the most of it on the epic ‘Sacred Rhythm Mix’ version, an 11-minute peak-time epic that just increases in energy and intensity throughout. Opening with reverb-laden piano solos, he crafts an organic deep house groove out of Dawes’ percussion, echoing snippets of guitar, Searle’s warm bass and his own polyrhythmic programmed drums. As the track progresses, Claussell continually beefs up the groove, adding weighty kick-drums and layering more percussion on top of Hillside’s electric piano sounds and spacey synths. It’s little less than a masterclass in warm and spiritual deep house.

Claussell isn’t finished there though, and those who love extra-percussive, driving house music should check his second rework, the ‘Sacred Rhythm Hornsdrums Version’. Destined to inspire a frenzy of sweaty, loose-limbed dancing, it’s a dancefloor dub built around little more than drums, ultra-energetic percussion solos, trippy effects, driving bass and, in the track’s latter stages, echo-laden horns and electric piano riffs. It’s breathlessly brilliant and, like his A-side rework, one of the best remixes Claremont 56 has released to date.

Emotional Rescue
10.01.2020

Emotional Rescue presents the music ensemble Man Jumping, with a reissue of their experimental, post-minimalist meets pop debut album Jumpcut, to be followed by 2 special remix EPs featuring Khidja, Bullion, Reckonrong and more. Formed in 1983 out of the disbanded The Lost Jockey (Les Disques Du Crepuscule), Man Jumping's aim was to move on from the unwieldy nature of that collective to combine the 'systems music' of Steve Reich, Terry Riley, LaMonte Young etc with rock, funk, dance and world music and create a new cross over. Consisting of studied musicians and created from theory as well as technique, the liberation from formal restrictions took shape over four years that spawned 2 albums and one 12". Released on Bill Nelson's 'Cocteau' label in 1985, Jumpcut's was critically praised but destined for more discerning ears. The 7 songs - including here a 12" mix of Aerotropics - developed from 16 stave manuscript into live recordings straight to tape, with no sequencing to keep their live feel intact.
Carefully planned but made in the moment, members Charlie Seaward, Glyn Perrin, John Lunn, Orlando Gough and Shaung Tozer's legacy is demonstrably durable, a testament to their originality of thought to an idea of what might be rather than an imitation of what has been.

Harmonie Exotic
23.09.2019

Magic Carpet" is the first Compilation of the German Label "Harmonie Exotic". Jose Manuel selected 12 experimental ambient tracks from the 1982 to the 1994. They are combined by the same feature, namely the magic and mysterious character. Even though all the (remastered) tracks released in different countries, such as Japan, Italy, and France, they are all combined in being rare and obscure songs. In most of them it is possible to verify the oneiric melodies mixed with the different drum machines, typical of that year.

For this reason, they show how the magic has been developed over the chosen years, as they were all enveloped from the same carpet. Starting from this idea the Compilation's title plays an important role in anticipating the dreamlike listening experience.

NuNorthern Soul proudly presents Dimun, an overlooked neo-classical / ambient fusion track by Faroe Islands-based producer Kristan Blak’s Yggdrasil project. Label boss ‘Phat’ Phil Cooper was playing G! festival on the Faroe Islands in 2019 and as part of the experience the delegates, artists and DJs where invited to see and experience some of the cultural spots and institutions of the Faroe Islands. One of those was Tutl records owned by Kristian Blak. Tutl records is a wonderful record store and label representing the wealth of amazing Faroese recording talent and has been around for years.

Kristian invited a few people to his house and he played the piano line of Dimun, Phil recorded it on his phone and could not stop watching it… He eventually contacted Kristian to ask about the music which led to it being licensed for this release.

Mike Salta steps up with studio partner Marty ‘Mortale’ to create an epic 12 minute version with a nod to the heritage and sounds of Cafe Del Mar circa 1998 and with added new flavours of Ibiza al la Mark Barrott / International Feel. The flip sees UK producer & DJ, Chris Coco take the helm with his dreamy New Age version chilled to the perfect temperature for lost La Torre sunset moments. Finally we have the original version and to quote David from One Million Sunsets "This is ace, all three versions, you could put them together to make one long track. New Age finally making a proper comeback."

Various - Music For Dreams - Summer Sessions 2020

Music For Dreams are proud to announce our Summer Sessions 2020, an official Record Store Day 2020 release. Seven waxed-down tracks, five of them unreleased, from our curious camp of cohorts to get you in the mood as the sunny days roll in. As always, there's some for the tree-shaded terraces, some for the sun-drenched beaches and some for the late-night dancefloors.

Our very own Kenneth Bager starts us off with the hypnagogic bliss-pop of 'Stones and Steel', accompanied by the silky vocals by Findlay Brown. Danish chill-out auteur The Swan & The Lake produces skyscraping ambient on 'Tinkerbell', a brand new track taken
from his forthcoming album, before Australian DJ and producer Jamie Porteus brings us back to the earthly grooves with 'Cop Milkshake Downtown', a beat you won't get tired of, unreleased as well. Our A-side is rounded off by Reinhard Vanbergen of Rheinzand's instrumental voyage on 'Blast From The Past'.

On the B-side, Danilo Braca sends Jacob Gurevitsch' rosy romancer 'In Search Of Lost Time' soaring on a magical carpet ride, first time on wax for this one that is becoming a Balearic classic on the white isle. It's followed by pure sensuous funk by one of Denmark's
finest percussionists Jacob Andersen through his project Bongo Entp, another unreleased track, that reminded this label press writer of the soul vibes of Rotary Connection. We finish off in fireworks of blitzing Anatolian energy with islandman's brand new track 'Dere
Boyu'.

Reformed Society - Cosmic Perspective

Harsh Puri, aka Reformed Society, is not new to the club scene. Since 2015 the London based artist has been releasing numerous records for various labels, including Berlin's vinyl only Superb Recordings and Marco Faraone's Uncage, as well as running his own club night Play at The Waiting Room, and its downtempo version, Downplay at Brilliant Corners. Characterized by raw textures and hypnotic arrangements, Harsh's sound uniquely crosses the boundaries of house and techno, resulting in effective and genre bending compositions. Funnuvojere is pleased to present Cosmic Perspective, which reveals, as the title suggests, Reformed Society's mastery of synthy harmonic layering. Appreciated by the late Andrew Weatherall, to whom Harsh had the pleasure of playing the first arrangements, Cosmic Perspective will never leave the record bag of downtempo aficionados. This record is a collection of emotional grooves made for receptive ears.

Carl Weingarten/walter Whitney - Dreaming In Colors

"Emotional Rescue begins the first in a series of reissues looking at the music of guitarist Carl Weingarten and his Multiphase Records label, starting at his highly sought after collaborate album with Walter Whitney, Dreaming In Colors. With an early interest in photography and Super 8 film leading to a degree in cinema production, Weingarten's other, self-taught, love was the slide guitar. Taking its blues roots and merging them with his visual arts background created a unique "painting in sound" style of playing. While looking to break into the film industry he began writing and recording his own film scores and other music for modern dance companies. From this, he founded Multiphase Records in St Louis in 1980. By the time of Dreaming In Colors, the label had released a series of cassettes and vinyl albums offering abstract, experimental, jazz-fusion, new wave and increasingly, new age compositions. Throughout this period the work of engineer, keyboardist and programmer, Walter Whitney was often present and by the 1985 release of Dreaming In Colors the duo had collaborated for a number of years and released several projects together, most notably as members of the Delay Tactics band. Recorded during off days from the Delay Tactics sessions, the album came together at Whitney's Subterranean Sound studio with a focus away from the bands guitar driven instrumentals to explore a multilayered approach to synthesis, blending textures with Whitney's original samples and sound design, while Weingarten's guitar moved from shining solo moments to complimenting the overall oeuvre, all with heavy washes of delay. This ecumenical approach led to the creation of this compelling album. A masterful conceptual whole that is linked by rich melodies and a concise playing style, heavy on substance while never forgoing the uplifting vibrations. "

From the Outplay camp comes their new sublabel 24 Carrot!

It's for the "other" tracks; the bits that don't necessarily fit in on a regular Outplay EP.
Whether it be edits, loose pumping house tracks, or just straight up weird stuff. Whatever takes our fancy.

24 Carrot #1 is a collection of tracks from Outplay's own Junktion and Fouk.
On the A-side Junktion comes at you with 'The Search', an uplifting piano vocal disco tune which will be sure to make those feet move!

The flipside is Fouk's turf. 'That’s Pretty Vague' amps it up as a groovy bass line house track, broken with toughened up synths.
The tongue in cheek vocals lighten the mood, while staying pretty vague. What the **** is he talking about?

'Paahdy' says it all, straight up house with nods to Chicago, perfect for a "Paahdy".

When Mildlife’s debut album, ‘Phase’, was released in 2018 it didn’t so much explode on to the scene as ooze. Their mellifluous mix of jazz, krautrock and, perhaps more pertinently, demon grooves, was the word of mouth sensation of that year among open-minded DJs and
diggers searching for the perfect beat.

By the end of 2018 they’d been nominees for Best Album at the Worldwide FM Awards (Worldwide’s Gilles Peterson was a notable champion) and won Best Electronic Act at The Age Music Victoria Awards back home in Melbourne. Their progress post-‘Phase’ was cemented with a UK deal with Jeff Barrett’s Heavenly, who released ‘How Long Does It Take?’.

With ‘Automatic’, the band have made a step-change from their debut. It’s more disciplined, directional and more danceable. As on ‘Phase’, they are unafraid to let a track luxuriate in length without ever succumbing to selfindulgence. The arrangements, tightly structured thanks to Tom Shanahan (bass) and Jim Rindfleish’s fatback drumming, permit space for the others to add spice to the stew, topped off with Kevin McDowell’s ethereal vocals as Mildlife effortlessly glide between live performance and studio songwriting.

Lovefingers / Various Artists - Fingertracks : Vol 1

In 2006 the musical landscape was a very different place. Social media, as we know it, was in it's infancy. The constant stream of likes, notifications and digital interruptions of today didn't fully exist yet. Those of us 'in the know' and with a thirst for the overlooked regions of the record store had to quench ourselves in the finely curated and generous climes of the online world's myriad music sites, but LA's Lovefingers site was something different, a watering hole in the burgeoning digital desert, a zone where Wally Badarou rubbed shoulders with the likes of Holger Czukay, Sylvester, Mr. Fingers and many others with ease and nobody had an issue with it. A space where a $1 thrift store score b-side could breathe the same dusty air as a $300 private press Folk rarity in comfort. Through an ongoing 'single track per day' posting Andrew 'Lovefingers' Hogge created a truly open-minded, democratic and educated selection of music for our secret, late-night right click and 'save link as' pleasure.

Did we mention that this was before almost everything that we now take for granted? That's right, you see all those Euro Pop dubs, or the 'classics' that we play at the wrong speed, or those private gems that have been reissued to the moon and back? Well, they very probably popped up on our collective record radars via the medium of first. Rightfully so, the site became an instant 'go to' and mark of quality among diggers, DJ's, voyeurs and lurkers around the globe and undoubtedly lead Andrew to instigate his much loved ESP Institute imprint, that is now almost a decade old. The Lovefingers site certainly contributed hugely to the wondrous, many faceted and open minded galaxy of records that is now the language we all speak fluently, inspiring a generation of curious diggers to delve even further into the racks.

This compilation you have within your grasp is merely a snapshot of the aural delights that were on offer to those of a 'leftfield' persuasion who found the site and dutifully tuned in for the daily shot of sonics proper. A finely and carefully crafted, lovingly curated handful of records that Andrew has revisited in order to tell the story of his most influential and essential modern musical resource. The tracklist is classic Lovefingers, an insight into the free-flowing nature of the daily posts, context free but somehow all connected via the same creative threads and energies - lo-fi loner jams brush up alongside sleazed-out Italo powerhouses, Greek new age obscurities tussle against overlooked Hawkwind related cuts, and much much more. Rumour has it that this is merely the first volume of this tale. Isn't that exciting? In the words of the man himself - 'That's not all folks' ...

Almost 10 years already….Just a short moment away from its tenth anniversary, the cutting-edge Label La Belle Records unveils the second part of its One Night Stands collection.

This is something you've never heard before! All thanks to the insatiable digging from the master curator and co-founder of the label, Antoine Harispuru aka Golden Bug.

From Rome to Bruxelles via Paris and Vilnius, this second edition hits hard with names like Get A Room!, Rodion, Ellis Island (a world collaboration between the Italians Bawrut and Hot Spell), Rodion, Front de Cadeaux, Claap! and some other electronic gems.

Jupiter Jax - No Such Thing

Jupiter Jax

No Such Thing

12inchSILK127
100% SILK
16.10.2020

The music of Maltese producer Rudi Agius aka Jupiter Jax has always felt as much defined by mood as movement, guided by the “specific melancholy” of specific melodies. His latest long-player skews even more cinematic, conjuring twilit gardens and crooked city streets, windswept and warped by memory: No Such Thing. Inspired by notions of escape and the unknown, and threaded with dexterous live instrumentation, the album treads vibrant hybrids of moonrise electronica, downtempo dream house, and Balearic breakbeat, brooding but breezy, a Mediterranean midnight of the mind.

Agius speaks of his songs in terms of intuition and inevitability, how and where they transport the listener. These twelve tracks slip between senses and spheres, interplanetary but placeless, noir glimpses of ghostly coastlines and re flective reveries. Flutes, trumpets, voices, and percussion contour his club designs with a tactile fluidity, jazz accents reflecting off rain- slicked marble harbors, the wakening dawn still worlds away.

The NEW MORNING - Riddims Of Culture 1

Repress!

The 1990s "Afro-Cosmic" scene, highlighting on Munich's The New Morning project, is the focus of an in depth reissue, collected across 3 six-track EPs.

As the influence and cult of Baldelli's Cosmic sound spread out across Italy from the late 1970s, the music expanded, mixing new wave, African, funk, electro, space rock, Brazilian, jazz and dub, all delivered in a freestyle playing that became "Afro".

Adding percussion, samples and effects, the music spread north to Austria and Southern Germany, where DJs, producers, labels and parties flourished. In 1994, DJ Otti and Jay Pee started Global Rhythm Records and with friends DJ Thilo and DJ Fred released 1O EPs and 1 LP over 4 years.

The 3 EPs select the best of this output, including unreleased tracks, mixing a love of funk, disco, hip hop and house with syncopated analogue beats and live percussion. The 90-110 bpm sample heavy tracks, often running for only 3 to 4 minutes, showcase their eclectic sound collage.

More than DJ tools, the EPs were warmly received by aficionados and clubbers alike, becoming mainstays at the afro-tribal gatherings taking place throughout the scene. Secret plays for taste-making DJs since, their scarcity and value have increased considerably, bringing a new appreciation of their "Afro-Funky" sound.

Michael David - There In Spirit

There In Spirit

Over the last decade and a half, Michael David has made many kinds of records, but always with other people. In 2015, he made something of his own for the first time a bleak, post-apocalyptic single released under the name Studio Paradiso.

Now, Michael has completed a pair of singles set for release this fall. On There in Spirit/Rain II, there is a bending of organic instruments. Guitars chop and glimmer. Beats cascade and push forward, but always with a sense of gentle resignation. This is the sound of a mind searching through time, exhuming memories and emotions ‘ good and bad ‘to try and know, recapture, reclaim, and most importantly, feel.

The music on both singles was recorded primarily on an Eloquencer sequencer and mixed in part by Joakim. The b-side features two new takes on Rain II ‘ an alternate, slow version and a remixed version by fellow seeker, Jex Opolis.

The NEW MORNING - Riddims Of Culture 2

Repress!

For the second Riddims EP, collating the music of The New Morning, the label highlights further how a group based around the southern Germany Afro-Cosmic scene created a melange of music, a sound, that stepped wide of the house and techno movement then sweeping Europe.

In Global Rhythm Records, friends and producers, DJ Otti and Jay Pee, alongside DJ Thilo and DJ Fred, represented Munich "Westside", running parties and across just 11 self distributed releases, carved their own eclectic niche that were being played by the likes of scene DJs Stefan Egger and Enne.

Slowed afro-percussion, Brazilian flavours, elements of ethno folk, flighty wood instruments, trance overtures, shamanic voices and more are pieced together via heavy sample use in an early hip hop mastermix style.

Again with no track lasting much over 4 minutes, these musical vignettes are perfect tools for the eclectic DJ. Covering uplifting - almost Balearic grooves - to deeper mind-inducing spellbinds and to darker corners of trippy psychedelic invocation, this is The New Morning experience.

Straight from the Mediterranean Sea, the Greek Duo Bonnie and Klein have landed at MM Discos to present “ROOF GARDEN”, an EP where the balearic beats and downtempo takes over the control and where the “2 Balearica devotes” invite us to enjoy an amazing trip from the Ionian coast thru the Aegean beaches until Myrtle Sea.
Bonnie & Klein are no longer unknown after being working the last 4 years for well renown labels as “Leng”, “Music for Dreams” and “Is It Balearic?” among others. Following their previous releases, B&K stay loyal to their own personal vision of “Chillout”.

Highly influenced by the architecture and culture from Greece, George & Thanasis build beat after beat an amazing work where their “Laid Back Style” will be the main character on this story, a long with haunting keys, wicked percussions, and sounds and melodies that will remind to “Far East”.

Parris - Terrapin EP

Terrapin EP

Wisdom Teeth
06.10.2020

Long-time friend of the label Parris debuts on Wisdom Teeth with a unique set of steppy house mutations, including a collaboration with AD93 star Minor Science. The record begins in downtempo mode. ‘Soft Rocks With Socks’ rolls out majestically on a slo-mo drum break and a two-tone bass loop, with shimmering pads and bleeping melodies counterbalancing a deceptively punishing low end. ‘Terrapin’ - a link-up with Minor Science - is a pristinely produced 100 bpm stepper, featuring razor sharp drum synths and crystalline MIDI melodies. To close, ‘Sabor a Ceniza’ pushes the tempo up towards peak time. What begins as a broken rhythm settles into a 4x4 groove, finding the exact midpoint between Roska’s UK Funky and Margaret Dygas’s work on Perlon.

PAYFONE - Last Night in Sant Celoni

With summer finally making its presence felt, Payfone makes its Leng Records debut with a simmering, sunset-ready sizzler that oozes drowsy heat from start to finish. It’s a slow-burn dancefloor beauty all right, but we expect nothing less from Anglo Italian Phil Passera and his growing band of musical collaborators. Since making their debut with the brilliant “International Smark” back in 2013, Payfone has delivered a swathe of superb singles which cannily combine elements of boogie, disco, NYC proto-house, acid house and Balearica in uniquely alluring ways. Passera has a reputation for using no samples in his creations, instead favouring live instrumentation, classic electronic hardware and ear-catching vocals.

Since we last heard from Payfone, Passera has moved his studio from his East London warehouse to a wooden shack in Sant Celoni, a sleepy Catalonian town near Barcelona nestled in the foothills of the Montseny and Montnegre mountain ranges. The inspiration of his new surroundings is clear on this warm, groovy and undeniably picturesque composition.

“Last Night In San Celoni” is a love letter from two girls meeting and falling in love amidst the tumbling streets and dramatic views of this little-known town just a few miles up the Mediterranean coast from Barcelona. Featuring the innocent, under stated singing of Los Angeles’ based Jaz James and the seductive Spanish speech of Beunos Aries-based Lumdilla Rodriguez, the duo narrates a romantic, bilingual love story that will melt your heart. Incidentally, it could well be the first (partly) English-language song dedicated to Sant Celoni, but don’t quote us on that. Musically, Payfone is in fine form on “Last Night in San Celoni” where Phil Passera offers up a warm and humid chunk of soft-touch dancefloor bliss underpinned by a combination of vintage analogue drum machine, 1980s style slap bass, rich electric piano motifs, and casually brilliant jazz guitar flourishes provided by regular Payfone guitarist Royce Wood Junior.

This result of years of collaborative work (this song began as a keyboard riff written in a New York studio in the heatwave of 2014), the track’s sumptuous groove seems to gently tug at the senses like the lapping waves on a Baleric Mediterranean beach at Sunset. The original mix comes accompanied by a more up-beat interpretation by Swiss stalwarts In Flagranti. Opting to fatten the groove whilst dubbing out many of the assembled musical elements, the experienced duo brilliantly wraps lo-fi synthesizer lead lines and 1980s package holiday pop flourishes around a chugging, low-slung groove that will have even the laziest dancers skipping towards the dancefloor.

Benoit B - Notes of Love

Notes of Love

INTO THE LIGHT
16.01.2020

Following a trip into the heart of Max Santilli’s Sydney studio, Into The Light Records’ ‘international’ series returns to Europe for an audience with former Peur Bleue, Versatile and Wisdom Teeth contribitor Benoit B.

The Berlin-based producer has previously won praise for his atmospheric and evocative approach to electronic music, which priorities melody, texture and vibe over form and function. “Notes of Love”, his first EP for Into The Light, was deliberately designed as a “soft journey for the ears”, with Benoit B opting to layer up only the most essential musical elements in order to guarantee sparkling, crystal clear sound and an overriding clarity of purpose.

Even so, the six tracks are still stylistically eclectic. Compare and contrast the sunrise-ready new age synthesizer melodies, bustling synth-bass, Fairlight style stabs and shuffling breakbeats of “2090”, the Vangelis Katsoulis style bliss of “Polar Nights”, the Art of Noise style ambient collage that is “Czechoslovakia” and the intergalactic, post-electro pulse of “Cowboy Dan”, whose rubbery synthesizer lines and electronic motifs somehow manage to be both funky and foreboding. Yet for all of these stylistic twists, “Notes of Love” is a coherent statement of intent from a producer whose personal musical vision remains as clear as ever.

Carista presents - Modern Intimacy Volume 1 2x12"

Dutch DJ, music curator and NTS Radio resident Carista presents Modern Intimacy Volume 1, her first compilation album for United Identities that shines a light on rising talents from The Netherlands. Captivating and forward-thinking, Modern Intimacy Volume 1 holds ten electronic-acoustic tracks that are drenched in soul, varying from dreamy songs to intimate treasures for dancefloors. Modern Intimacy Volume 1 kicks off with two moving soul hymns; Jelee's impressive digital 'Diaspora' and Quanza's acoustic, multi-instrumental 'A Death Supreme'. Sykes brings the broken drums with his infectious builder 'Take'. It is the perfect bridge to the five genre-defying house tracks on the compilation; the lush sounding 'Gloom' by United Identities long-stay Beraber, Laza's groover 'Revelations', Najel Monteiro's hazy 'Limbo' and Panda Lassow's chuggy 'Stability'. The label's versatile, yet harmonious musical approach becomes even broader with Mary Lake's intimate, jacking hitter 'Dribble', Alberta Balsam's futuristic 'Dig301', closing with Black Cadmium's pounding breaks in 'Break Up'. On her mission to connect like minded lovers of contemporary music, Carista started her United Identities label as well as her inclusive club nights a few years ago. Through her platform, she fell into many unfamiliar, surprising local artists. Today, she is beyond proud to offer a selection of the music that has crossed her path, and a taste of what's to come on the label.
