Like with Danny Krivit, the opportunity to working with a personality that gathers all ethnic origins together throughout his career and life like François Kevorkian - a living legend, whose production- and remix works for countless artists are beyond classics and covering a timeframe of more than four decades - is a big honour for Emilie Nana and of course for Compost Records in either way. Kevorkian's role as a mastermind in NYC nightlife is untouchable and the fact that he's still sharing his knowledge and forward thinking attitude towards dance music, keeps him going strong at the forefront of the international dance music scene. As part of the ten-year anniversary Dekmantel presents the final record in a ten-part-EP series. Split into two parts due to its immensity, the final instalment is a re-issue of Tony Allen's 'Asiko (In A Silent Mix)' originally released in 1999 and remixes by Motor City Drum Ensemble and Ricardo Villalobos. The first part features a grandiose 29-minute Ricardo Villalobos version of the Afrobeat master's cut. A true collaboration of giants.

Having been a regular at the festival for several years now, Villalobos delivers a remix, one of his longest to date, that only he can produce. Allowing the percussion to breathe into a monumental rhythm, Villalobos warps the vocals, restructuring the bass and drums into a rolling dub-fusion of techno that is characteristic of his remixes to date, yet still breathtaking in its execution. Afrobeat-minimalism, with dub-infused fire, and near psychedelic ambience that perfectly synchs the worlds of Tony Allen, and Ricardo Villalobos, two legends who've helped re-shape the face of music.

Highlighting the diversity of sounds that have come to represent the Dutch label and festival series, the EPs to date have encompassed a range of artists and genres, featuring label favourites, as well as whole bunch of debuting artists. The EP series kicked off in March 2018, and over the course of a year featured the likes of Gigi Masin, Lena Willikens, Burnt Friedman, Donato Dozzy, The Egyptian Lover, Palms Trax, and more.

‘No Limits’ is a record that has been causing waves since 2019 when it was originally released on Gladys Pizarro’s Launch Entertainment imprint.

Born out of an inspired studio session in 2018 between Danism, Train and DJ Rae, the song immediately felt special, evoking memories of the heyday of the soulful NYC sound. The production and, in particular, the sublime vocal delivery from DJ Rae made it stand out and the NYC-based Launch Entertainment seemed the perfect home for it. The record was a hit on the soulful house scene with heavy support from Louie Vega, Todd Terry, Francois K, Terry Hunter, CJ Mackintosh, Mr V, Sandy Rivera, DJ Spen, Brutha Basil, Sy Sez, Richard Earnshaw and loads more.

Fast forward to 2021 – and in partnership with SoSure Music - ‘No Limits’ is set for release on vinyl with the unquestionable expertise of Danny Krivit laying down a signature re-edit of this soulful house gem. Looping up DJ Rae’s vocals to expert effect at the beginning of his edit, Krivit amps up the anticipation for that sensuous, soulful house drop as twinkling keys reverberate from ear to ear. This is emotive house at it’s very best. The full length and original Vocal Mix graces the B-side.

With this release Danism, Train and DJ Rae also launch their DTR project alias. With the continued success of ‘No Limits’ plus brand new material set to follow throughout the year on Launch Entertainment it makes sense to cement their initial collaboration into something more solid. Danism, Train, DJ Rae combine as the DTR Project with Danny Krivit on remixes duties. A delightful combination to kickstart 2021.

C Da Afro continues his prolific run through 2020 with another killer EP of disco edit goodness, and this time it's for the consistently excellent Cardiology label. No doubt you're already tuning in with high expectations about the calibre of party fodder on offer, and "Hustle" sets the tone pitch-perfect from the get-go. There's a fine balance between disco, boogie and house achieved here, whereas "Hold Up" takes a more purist disco approach (with Philly strings thrown in for good measure). "Disco Version" piles the funk on heavy before "Big Fantasy" rounds things out with some scintillating carnival energy, pushing the party-ready capabilities of this 12" even further.

REPRESS ALERT! Best Record Italy take the time machine all the way back to 1979 to revisit the wonderful Italo-Disco delights of Adolf Stern, whose "More... I Like It" represents the strangest end of the genre as it was taking shape. With heavily processed vocals injecting some serious strangeness into the chirpy disco backdrop, it's the kind of track to turn heads without a doubt. "Twenty Seven" on the B-side is equally magical in its capturing of the era, with the more obvious surface elements underpinned by a truly intoxicating line in synth arpeggios. Once again Best comes up trumps refreshing the history of Italian music of all shapes and sizes.

Lagoon is the protagonist of the ninth release of the Spanish label Several Roots, a collective of national artists that aims to roll out native talent and of which they are co-founders together with other travelling companions. Alta Ley is formed by three original tracks and three remixes by Músculo!, Jackwasfaster and Adhesive. This EP is the third work by the Galician duo and the first vinyl release by Several Roots. Electronics that, far from being linked to any specific style, offers a musical variety that goes from downtempo to breaks, including space disco or IDM.

Star (German Version) is mesmerizing and charming, dead on target and unforgettable.In her hometown, they call this an Ohrwurm. Celebrating 30 years in the game for Z Records with a series of 12” vinyl EP’s containing some of the most sought-after remixes from the esteemed Z back catalogue. Part 1 sees highly desired cuts from Joey Negro, The Sunburst Band, Patrice Rushden, Akabu, Andre Lodemann, Hot Toddy, Sean McCabe and Atjazz.

First up, Joey Negro’s incredible Extended Disco Mix of Patrice Rushen - Haven't You Heard, housed on the ‘Remixed With Love By Joey Negro (Part A)’ EP currently only attainable if you’re willing to part with £100+. Andre Lodemann’s remix of Akabu - Another World takes the second spot, a jazzy, synth laden house groover from the 2010 Summer Sampler EP that goes for up to £40 on the second-hand market.

On the flip side, Crazy P’s Hot Toddy provides the goods with a driving, funk remix of The Sunburst Band - Taste The Groove. Previously found on the limited edition 2013 RSD remix EP, it’s been trading hands for close to three figures. Finally, a Joey Negro edit of Atjazz’s remix of Sean McCabe - Reach Out ft. Hannah Khemoh, a vocal house shuffler from Attack The Dancefloor Volume Eight that’s been going for £60 on Discogs.

All in all, this is an absolute must for any discerning digger and the perfect way to kick start the 30th anniversary celebrations.

B2 Recordings delivers its fifth release this April, entitled ‘Players Paradise’ and coming courtesy of Greek producer Lex. Athens, Greece based producer and DJ Alex Andrikopoulos aka Lex has been a key figure in the city's underground electronic music scene, founding the now defunct Radical Soundz record store, running numerous events in the country and also the imprint Quantinzed Music. Here we see him deliver his latest work under his Lex guise via Bengoa's hi-rising B2 Recordings. Title-cut ‘Players Paradise’ leads, a ten minute journey through popping organic percussion, snaking funk-infused bass lines and an amalgamation of bright piano chords, wandering resonant leads and cinematic strings. Following is ‘Just Realised’, embracing a similarly organic aesthetic via swinging natural drums, a walking jazz-tinged bass line and intricately intertwined, keys, strings and synth licks throughout. ‘In Your Eyes I Never Tried’ then rounds things out, stripping things back rhythmically to shuffled, off-kilter drums while sharp piano melodies, bright strings, vocal chants and choppy sub bass notes wander amongst the bumpy groove.

Editorial drop yet another killer various package featuring some of the scene's big hitters. Pressed on Limited Electric Blue Vinyl, act fast as these won't be around for long.

When I first stumbled across mix tapes out of Hamburg's seminal Front Club (with Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosch at the helm) during the glorious and carefree early days of the popularized internet, there were certain tracks on them that struck a chord and had me rewinding the mp3-player.
In fact there was one specifically, I couldn't stop listening to. The mixture of an infectious bass line, a super sharp snare, "music" and "harmony" vocal snippets, happy claps and synths lines that evoked pictures of a convertible going down a coastline, and - to top it all off - a tribal chant, was irresistible. After some intensive track-id-hunting pre-shazam, I found out that the heaven-sent hymn was Music by an act called Syncbeat. Originally released in 1984 during the craze that was called UK Electro via Street Sounds resp. Streetwave and later licensed to German omnivore Zyx Records. A joint venture between the Electro-Funk mastermind,DJ pioneer and edit maestro Greg Wilson as well as Manchester musicians Martin Jackson & Andy Connell, it is exactly that type of dance track that eludes any classification - as you can see from my description above. Or to cite Greg Wilson himself from one of his essays on the subject of UK electro: "The track that received the best response was "Music" by Syncbeat, which was full of good vibes and could have easily been re-vamped down the line as a House track."
34 years later down the line, and in the wake of mix-cd-compilation by Stockhausen and Dlugosch portraying those divine years at the Front, Music is available again for the second time on this planet. Carrying all three mixes of the original and equipped with an extended Re-Mix, a bonus beat and a tribal reprise all perfectly conceived executed by Boris Dlugosch, this like a dream came true and a welcome addition to the Super Sound Singles series on Running Back

Leng Records has long had close ties with the underground music scene in San Francisco, with low-slung dub disco and psychedelic disco outfit 40 Thieves releasing their acclaimed album The Sky Is Yours on the imprint way back in 2014. Now Leng has turned to another stalwart of the Bay Area scene, Cole Odin, on a single that’s every bit as trippy and engrossing as you’d expect from one of San Francisco’s most frequently overlooked talents. Cole made his Leng debut earlier in the year, contributing the electro-influenced track ‘Numbers Game’ to the label’s 10th anniversary compilation. On ‘Little Boxes’, he’s joined by good friend Eddie C, a much-loved disco and house producer from Canada best known for his releases on Endless Flight and Red Motorbike. The pair recorded the track while Eddie was staying with Cole in San Francisco last year.



In keeping with the low-slung, hallucinatory sound that has always been a big feature of the San Franciscan scene, ‘Little Boxes’ is a trippy, mind-altering affair in which waves of sitar sounds, cosmic synths, effects-laden guitars and kaleidoscopic electronics rise above a weighty punk-funk bassline and crunchy, snare-heavy beats. It has serious dancefloor chops but is also atmospheric and immersive: perfect 5am music for Bay Area beach parties and mushrooms-fuelled forest raves.



Fittingly, it’s 40 Thieves who provide the accompanying remix, a 10-minute epic created with the assistance of Adonis and Rodney from the psych rock band ‘Guavatron’ for additional synths and the guitars. Beginning with tabla-style percussion, swirling chords, psychedelic guitar licks and mystical sitar sounds, the remix builds in waves, with looser drums and even weightier bass propelling the track forwards at a metronomic and hypnotic pace. By the time the eyes-closed guitar solos drop two thirds of the way through, you’ll be tripping hard and reaching for the lasers. It’s a genuinely stunning remix of a genuinely intoxicating, mind-mangling track.

The second release of Homies Cuts imprint it’s a poker of aces. A winning play by four fantastic gamblers including a velvet groovy disco sweetie by the italian maestro Riccio, a playful and tropical spanish 80’s cut brought in by Willie Graff and his almighty balearic wisdom, capo MLIR throwing a thug powerful electro piece to madden dance floors and Jack Priest showing his edit savoir faire with a symphonic slow space disco odissey.

Greg Belson is a veteran DJ and one of the premiere collectors of soul music worldwide. He's known as the go to authoritarian for Gospel Soul music, is the compiler of the Divine Disco series on Cultures of Soul and presents his radio broadcast Divine Chord Gospel Show on LA's creative hub.
and Paulo Fulci is a DJ and producer out of Bristol UK. His work as part of the Situation edit crew has been released and supported as part of the underground for many years....he now spends his days slangin' records, whilst honing his disco scalpel skills in the late twilight hours.Following on from their incendiary slab of two sided gospel goodness 'Born Again' & 'Soul Revival', the Divine Situation duo have crafted the next lot of bangin' spiritualized dancefloor destroyers for your record box.
Here we have an EP catering for several sides to your night. The lead off cut is the flat out roof raiser 'The Problem Solver'.....then it's boogified territory with 'Brand New Feelin', before they close out with the end of 'nighter, 'Try Love'.
Once again, Moton bringin' the heavyweight platters that matter!

The find of the year Hidden amongst the master tapes for that Roberta Flack song written by Stevie was Stevie's own guide vocal, never heard of until now.. Not just a basic guide vocal, but a full on, passionate Stevie performance that makes this sound like a long lost Stevie classic, overshadowing Roberta's sweet vocal delivery, taking this soul masterpiece to new heights. With Stevie on Drums and keys also, the master at the top of his game.

On the flip side, a classy slice of Philly disco, Reflexed without the rather dated and cheesy Linda Clifford song, focusing on the killer grooves and morphing it into a horn / guitar riff laden track, hands in the air style!

Soulful house legend Timmy Regisford brings his trademark sound to DJ Spen & Thommy Davis' Quantize Recordings.

'Falling In Love' is a sumptuously sizzling heater, marrying Regisford's classic soul-laden production with Tiger Wilson's sensuous vocals. It's a combination that will ease any pains, calm any worries and bring a smile to the face, bottling up that sunshine feeling for those darker days when a little lift is needed.

Timmy then offers up three mixes to bring a real versatility to the e.p. First up, the 'Instrumental Mix' that lets Regisford's bumping bass, jazzed up piano, swelling strings and spiritual keys do the talking. Secondly, the 'Alternative Vocal Mix' switches the percussion of the original opting for more congas, shakers and bongos whilst leaving the claps at bay to give a deeper interpretation of the original. The final mix then drops the vocals of this alternate version completing what is a standout e.p. from Timmy Regisford that captures the essence of 2018's summer of love.

Szymek Lawik and Maritn Lefteri’s regular party and NTS show, Feel the Drive, turns record label with a debut release that takes you through the gears.

Spending their lives digging up the very best Italo, New Beat and EBM delights, a record label was the next logical move for Szymek Lawik and Martin Lefteri. The perfect distillation of their combined tastes and determination to search the globe for new music, the four-track debut EP features big hitters from Franz Scala (Bahnsteig 23, Tusk Wax, Cocktail d'Amore), Anatolian Weapons (Beats in Space, Dark Entries), Furor Exotica (Bordello a Parigi, Sprechen) and the label bosses themselves under their Ondata guise (Red Laser, Night Noise Music).

First up is Franz Scala, with “Sabrina”. A pulsing, new beat thrum bolts out of the gate, setting the pace with heads-down conviction. This straight-ahead velocity soon leans into guitar licks and Italo horn stabs and, before you know it, you’re transported - hugging the curves and corners along with the motorik rhythm.

Next, we shift down a gear and head east for “Ela” as Anatolian Weapons lights up the skies with a slow-burning intensity delivered with complete conviction. Exotic synth melodies, impossibly dextrous string playing and rolling acid lines carve out a unique path through the terrain, leaving no choice but to follow in its slipstream.

Argentinian duo Furor Exotica pick up the pace with “Fat Training”, an arpeggio-supercharged dancer guaranteed to lift the spirits and recharge the batteries come 3am. This is a track that carries its momentum up front and its boogie in the back. There’s a nod to the old new beats, but with wide eyes facing resolutely forward.

And then it’s time for the last lap. “Kolossos” is an apt moniker for this no-nonsense, heads-down, full-force monster. It’s a neon-lit tunnel late at night – unfamiliar, alien light throwing repetitive, yet slowly shifting shapes against sheer walls as you move through. “It’s not as bad for humankind to be dominated by me than to be dominated by others of your species” a voice intones as we reach our destination.

It’s metal machine music to save us from ourselves.

Grammy nominated producer and DJ Boys Noize made his anticipated Defected debut with ‘Mvinline’ earlier this summer, unveiling a captivating and uplifting house cut you can’t help but groove to. Now available on a special 12” package, this infectious, self-assured cut sounds better than ever on wax. A name synonymous with quality dance music, this joyous release kicks off with the original track, as the German producer explores his roots with a funk-laden, classic house beat. On the flip, the previously unreleased ‘Mvinline Svn’ strips back the familiar vocal for a more club-focussed cut. Having previously released on RNT as part of duo Balako, Diogo Strausz now makes his solo debut on the label with an absolutely stunning offering of electronic Brazilian jazz. A São Paulista now living in Paris, Strausz made international waves earlier this year with his piece ‘Pausa,’ a grand and sprawling orchestral work written and recorded by musicians around the world in isolation.

The two songs on Strausz’ new Emancipação EP showcase his gift for instrumental composition that feels at once both fresh and timeless, informed heavily by the classic Bossa Nova and Samba repertoires of his native Brazil, yet translated through a modern production lens, and executed with exceptional musicianship. The end result is an undeniably unique sound that will fit equally well in the collections of jazz and MPB aficionados, as in the crates of modern DJs and listeners alike.

Kurtiss is a shadowy and enigmatic figure working on the boundaries of civilization. A sporadic figure on the House music scene with eccentric habits, Kurtiss’ music is a rarified sonic experience for those who seek it out. The Ameri-can artist is hard to pin down and his music is a tantalizing little secret only for adept diggers who appreciate the style of Hi-Def House music that the artist has cultivated. Although he’s a known Soundcloud fixture, he’s only put out a handful of digital singles as Curtis Vodka in the past, with Mutual Intentions facilitating his latest and immortalizing his music on their next set of releases. A nomadic artist, who’s worked on music ranging from Ghetto Tech to House, his music has spanned the known musical spectrum, forging uncanny relationships with everything from 50 Cent to Mall Grab. Under the pseudonym Kurtiss (or Curtis Vodka), he’s all about HIGH-Fi House, life, aliens, Jazz and no trends. It’s an attitude that he lays bare on this rare contribution to the physical, recorded format for Mutual Intentions on ‘The Curtis Vodka EP’.
