The new release from HELP presents works from various Help-releated artists. Another release from the Arhus-imprint that doesn't directly state "club-proof", but still, this one wouldn't mind having a spin or two by your local dance pusher.The opening track is by Central; a ripe house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - probably the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. Next up is the four piece group Maizena with an ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of Denmark with the least rainfall. On the b-side you 'll find a raw and to the point recording of DJ Sports and C.K joining pH 1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of Arhus.
Next up is the long awaited debut from Manmade Deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. Last but not least Amsterdam-based KAAP joined Central on a fine day at Rubber Studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride.
All in all this genuine piece of wax is filled with local devotion and love from the HELP-crew. Thanks for the support!

Nu Era delivers another dose of Deep-Soulful Techno produced by Marc Mac. This Detroit style 4 track EP is backed with genre-fused science, analogue machines woven together by chords, melodies and beats we've come to expect from Nu Era, at times the string laden 4hero sound is synonymous throughout the four tracks and although synthetic still full of emotion. The Vinyl release is a lovely transparent red and an animated label design is a nice bonus, limited to 300 copies.

Last year, Hieroglyphic Being (producer of astral electronic explorations touching house, techno, industrial, avant-jazz and noise), percussionist and producer Sarathy Korwar (who fused traditional folk music of the Sidi community in India with jazz and electronics on his debut album Day To Day' released by Ninja Tune in collaboration with The Steve Reid Foundation), and Shabaka Hutchings (the highly respected British saxophonist and co-founder of Sons Of Kemet, Mercury-nominated The Comet Is Coming and Shabaka & The Ancestors) - recorded a 100% live improvised session at the iconic Lightship95 studio moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, London. They recorded over 2.5 hours of music across 2 sessions, with 90 minutes streamed live via NTS.

This June Session Victim return to Jimpster's ' Delusions Of Grandeur' imprint with a third studio album. 'Listen To Your Heart' is the result of a year of cross-continental scripting, started in their Hamburg studio and wrapped up stateside in San Francisco's Room G Studios where the duo had worked on their 2014 LP 'See you When You Get There'.
Sampling still remains an ever present backbone throughout the album. Session Victim have dug deep for sounds, resulting in a richly detailed and organic sound collage that goes hand-in-hand with their live instrumentation, this time enhanced through several guest musician appearances, most notably Carsten "Erobique" Meyer (ex-International Pony). Smooth guitar samples are built up on 'Over and Over' while on 'Moons & Flowers' the live instrumentals that Session Victim do so well come to the fore.
The treasure trove of San Francisco's record shops proved to be a hard bait to resist and the pair spent a large part of their Californian time hunting for records to sample. Three new tracks emerged from these digging sessions, with the sweeping disco string arrangements on 'Shadows' standing out as a prime ode to days spent combing through bargain bins.
Listen To Your Heart is equally a product of the road. While heavy touring is often cited as a hindrance to the creativity of artists, Session Victim see their live shows as a catalyst to their creativity. Two US tours in 2016 gave the Hamburg duo the opportunity to take track sketches and fragments on the road to incorporate into their live shows and then digest them back in the studio. The playful funk soaked groove of 'Matching Half' captures the sense of movement present throughout Listen To Your Heart and the LP mix of 'Up To Rise', which caused heavy ripples when it dropped as part of 2016's Matching Half EP is an extension of the upbeat and euphoric groove that permeates the album.

For decades, if you wanted to listen to great music all you needed to do was stare at a screen! TV and film soundtracks were often the work of US legends such as Lalo Schiffrin, Oliver Nelson & Quincy Jones, and their Uk counterparts Ronnie Hazelhurst and Alan Hawkshaw, provided the soundtrack to the 60's & 70's at a time when film and TV music was unashamedly funky and featured the ensemble of choice for the jazz arranger.. the big band!

A 21st century musician with comparable skills is Andy Tolman - an astounding bass player, but also highly adept at writing & arranging for a big band and who is heavily influenced by those greatest practitioners of the art. Andy met to Nick van Gelder (the original Jamiroquai drummer) and keyboard guru Carl Hudson whilst doing a run of gigs backing artists like Leon Ware and Jean Carne. Andy played Nick You What! and he asked if he could lay a drum track down and at around the same time Carl offered his services on the record also. Nick went on to drum on the entire album and produce the recordings too.

At the tail end of 2011, when Freestyle Records A&R man Greg Boramans' compilation 'Sounds From The Soul Underground' was released the glorious noise of The Andy Tolman Cartel first came to public attention. The amazing track You What! had one foot in jazz-funk & the other in film & TV themes of the 60's and 70's, found champions in Jazz FM's Peter Young and BBC 6 Musics Craig Charles who both featured it on their radio shows heavily.

Andy himself takes up the story, "After You What! found it's way onto Gregs' compilation he asked me how many more tracks I had, I kind of lied (sorry Greg!) and said a whole albums worth. Having shot my mouth off I thought I had better set about delivering... a daunting prospect, and a promise I probably wouldn't have made had I been sober at the time. So I called upon the services of some of the amazing musicians I have worked with over the past few years. Move Over was the first song I heard Jo Harman sing and Stevie Watts award winning Hammond organ playing seemed like a natural fit too"

'Cypher' is indeed the perfect example of a natural fit of like minded musicians and their natural talents and the delightfully natural sound of a big band cutting loose that has not been heard for a long time making a welcome and long overdue return.

Hot on the heels of 'Inre Rydmen', the EP that the Swedish multi-instrumentalist group Tommy Awards released via Origin Peoples in mid-June, come the remixes. Drafting in a cohort of the very best, this impending release will see the likes of Jonny Nash, Coyote and Mystic Jungle Tribe jump on the remix duties, touching original productions with their unmistakable idiosyncrasies. Bartosz Kruczynski, the Polish producer better known under his 'Earth Trax' guise, is another name credited on the release, offering up a 15-minute epic as he reinterprets penultimate track, 'Hans Logan.' Also to see an appearance on this EP is the Romanian Eirwud Mudwasser, offering up a rendition of the track 'Mike Sierra Foxtrot' reworked in a similar esoteric expanse, albeit it quite a bit more lucid.
Oscillating electronics mesmerise and an arpeggiating synth melody gradually make way for marimbas. Sweeping, elongated strums of guitar stretch out like the horizon and the dialogue between various melodic elements continues throughout as we bear witness to various transformations. Irregardless of pacing, the meditative quality remaining consistent throughout each glorious edit.

The unpredictable nature of life for a band with members scattered around the globe have forced Guts to give his line-up a shake to start their various tours in the best possible conditions.

While Florian Pellissier remains riveted to the keyboards, versatile Greg F. on the bass and Nico Rajao on drums, Guts has gobbled up the miles and bestrode stage after stage at the head of a revitalised live band.

New recruits had kept enhancing the well-practised repertoire with their vibes, redefining some of the contours, adding a bit more soul here or a lightness of touch there. Their impact was so great, in fact, that changing line-ups have become part of the band's identity.

Galvanized by this new alchemy, Guts and his new-look live band stopped off in the studio to compose and record some new tracks which he has brought together on "Stop the Violence", a five-track record that's more like a mini-album than a simple EP.

High on this regenerating juice, energy levels spiking into the red, "Ain't Perfect", "Pick Me Up", "Everybody Wants to Be a Star", "Drummer's Delight" and the title track light up boxes marked soul, afro, disco and jazz, brighten a groove carpeted with retro-funky keyboards and the brass of Cotonete, Heavenly Sweetness's resident jazz-funk specialists. Following his 2015 release 's/t', Ant Orange is back with another groove-laden 12' on Karaoke Kalk. 'Arkupe' is a prime slice of laid-back beats and bass-heavy jazz breaks.
Each track oozes soulfulness, from the smooth-as-silk Fender Rhodes on the opening title track to the downbeat afro rhythms of 'Fog Walk', and the nonchalant guitar riffs and synth lines on 'Little Wing'. Side 1 closes with 'Feld', a sun-drenched slo-mo house jam. Side 2 presents another handful of diverse Ant Orange cuts, starting with the more uptempo toe-tapper 'Big Lil's'. 'LB' offers more tasty jazz-n-bass drumming, while the closing track 'My Man' has a breezy still-awake-on-Sunday swagger.
With his latest 12' on Karaoke Kalk, Ant Orange shows the wide range of styles he has to offer. 'Arkupe' is loaded with some of the mellowest vibes you're likely to hear all year.

Working closely with such a diverse range of artists, in addition to his own very rich musical taste has made him a genre-defying drummer.This really comes to fruition on Richard's previous album 'Whole Other*'. A record that touches on many genres and features collaborations with Blue Note trumpeter Takuya Kuroda, UK's Electronica underground sensation The Hics and the legendary Kutmah.

New album 'The Self' also features artists from diverse backgrounds: Jordan Rakei, Jameszoo, Kris Bowers, MC Cleveland Watkiss and Richard's established partner in crime, guitarist and composer Stuart McCallum. With 'The Self', Richard introduces us to a very personal journey. The moment in time where a jazz drummer affirms his love for club culture and delivers an album that travels from Drum and Bass to Broken Beat to Dubstep and more, through the very specific lens of a drummer. All combined with Richard's unique subtle take on drumming, which has made him a sought-after performer with the artists cited above and also at drum events and festivals around the world.

This club culture influence is also apparent in the way Richard wrote and produced this album. Sampling his own drums on the Photek cover 'Hidden Camera' and collaborating with Metalheadz MC, Cleveland Watkiss to recreate the London sound system vibe so integral to his background.

First single 'The Self' features the sublime soul vocals of young phenomenon Jordan Rakei. A bed of syncopated chords washes over the 140bpm heavy dubstep influenced drums. The chorus takes us to an atmospheric high while Jordan soars and the drums add intensity, and with that impeccable sound design, it definitely makes us want to hear more of this exciting and diverse album.

Original Double Vinyl Reissue with a Gatefold Cover and CD in 4-side Digipack Love In A Black Dimension was Jestofunk first album originally released in 1994 and Is still their most successful album ever.
Love in a Black Dimension has surely been a source of inspiration for many artists that cam out later in the international dance scene and more and still today the Tracks contained in the Album are a must in DJ's playlists all over the world. After the excellent worldwide results achieved by the first two singles, I'm Gonna Love You' and 'Say It Again' the formidable production team (Claudio Moz-Art Rispoli, Alessandro 'Blade' Staderini and Francesco Farias) decided to produce their first full Album and thinking about a great singer that could feature and give voice to their songs decided to get in touch with one of the most important House Music vocalist of that period, Mr CeCe Rogers.
The Single that was first released to launch the album was 'Can We Live', sung by Cece, and immediately became a hit in
all the clubs around the world and at the same time establish itself as a classic of the genre. Jestofunk moved in directions unprecedentedly experimented, styles like the fusion between Funk And House Music, contaminated with Acid Jazz, a genre that was going very strong during those in years.
Acid Jazz became very Popular, thanks to artists such as Incognito and Jamiroquai. In the album, besides the three singles mentioned, other big dancefloor tracks featured, like that splendid version of Donny Hathaway's The Ghetto, with Fred Wesley and his magic trombone solo, which is still one of the cult songs of the World-wide Acid Jazz scene.

After a first track "I Sent You Flowers" released in early 2017, the young Parisian artist TourMaubourg unveils his first EP with a wink title Déclaration Préalable à l'Embauche. A 5-
tracker, with a subtle synthesis of jazz and house, mixing festive and melancholic sounds.

Second release from the label offers up broken rhythms, jacking grooves and deep spirituals. Hold Me explores lyricism within tight repetitious rhythm, on which saxophonist Tyrone Isaac-Stuart explores hook lines and story telling whilst bassist Jordan Christo maintains control over the low-end spectrum.That He Man Of Hers melds jacking, upbeat tempo with romanticism and melancholy on top, with Louis Ktisti providing guitar accompaniment. One's Own Permanent Faith, on the other hand, provides for a moodier and more subdued spiritual dance rhythm, which warms one up before the spiritual explorations in Would You Tell Me About You. In this final track, the guitar rhythms provided by Jabriel AlSuhaimi and spiritual exorcism of the saxophone by Tyrone Isaac-Stuart present a different angle in the approach towards discovering the endless groove.

Notilus is the new project of five established French musicians combining cinematic soundscapes, energetic jazz and atmospheric live electronics. With a decent amount of performances at several French festivals the quintet presents its s/t debut album via Denovali in spring 2017. The cleverly compiled repertoire varies from positively trombone and sax driven jazz parts with a deep sense for sophisticated melodies to calmer, melancholic soundscapes back to beat driven, dynamic, buzzy sound cascades. Sometimes the albums delivers a feeling of a soundtrack for a 70s crime movie - sometimes it sounds like an intergalactic, retro-futuristic trip - always with an ironic and positive view on the own creative work.

With Notilus, the five musicians embark on a journey towards the centre of the Earth, towards the pentaquarks, towards the tips of Pluto's icy peaks and beyond. The spatio-temporal ship made some stops on the planets Jazz, Trap, 70 's, Bass, Dark and Psyche. With a decent amount of performances at several French festivals the quintet presents its s/t debut album via Denovali in spring 2017. The cleverly compiled repertoire varies from positively trombone and sax driven jazz parts with a deep sense for sophisticated melodies to calmer, melancholic soundscapes back to beat driven, dynamic, buzzy sound cascades. Sometimes the albums delivers a feeling of a soundtrack for a 70s crime movie - sometimes it sounds like an intergalactic, retro-futuristic trip - always with an ironic and positive view on the own creative work.

With Notilus, the five musicians embark on a journey towards the centre of the Earth, towards the pentaquarks, towards the tips of Pluto's icy peaks and beyond. The spatio-temporal ship made some stops on the planets Jazz, Trap, 70 's, Bass, Dark and Psyche. The infectious smile creating live performance of Notilus captured in ten diversified and timeless pieces.

New Andres 12'' debut on his own label La Vida. Andres is one that really needs no introduction, but for those unfamiliar here it is: Andres, aka DJ Dez, is one of Detroit's unsung heros of underground music. Since the late 90's Andres has built up an extremely respectable catalog of that blurs the boundaries between genres, most notably his records on KDJ and Mahogani Music. Not to forget, DJ Dez is also Slum Village's DJ, has recorded many hip hop instrumental on Hipnotech Records, and his hand is on countless other Detroit records. Definitely one of the most consistent producers we've got here whose music can be summed up in one word: Quality!

12" EP sampler taken from the Nickodemus compiled Turntables on the Hudson Vol. 10 album released at the beginning of the summer. Big A-side cuts include Bonobo's latest anthem "Flashlight" and one of the biggest house tunes of the year, the absolutely massive Beatport chart topping Claptone remix of "Liquid Spirit" by Gregory Porter which sees it's FIRST EVER vinyl release on this 12". On the flip side, South Africa's Aero Manyelo gives us "Tshunga", a driving, pulsing African deep house track, while Pablo Sanchez takes New Zealand's Sorceress into dancefloor territory with his remix of "Brother Dragonfly

First Word are keeping it moving for 2017 and welcoming Kaidi Tatham into the fold, with a firing four-track EP, 'Changing Times'.

Kaidi is a talented multi-instrumentalist that's produced, featured, remixed and performed with an array of artists across numerous genres, jazz, soul, broken beat, hip hop and beyond.

Perhaps best known for his work with Bugz In The Attic, 4Hero and Dego, his accomplished catalogue of musicianship can be heard amongst the likes of Amy Winehouse, Slum Village, Mulatu Astatke, Soul II Soul, Leroy Burgess, Amp Fiddler, Macy Gray, King Britt, DJ Spinna, Gene Harris, Mr Scruff, The Salsoul Orchestra, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Blu, Vikter Duplaix, Nathan Haines, Phil Asher, IG Culture and Eric Lau, to name a fraction.

As a solo entity, there have been two studio albums and an immense catalogue of singles under several aliases, for labels such as Alex Nut's Eglo and Theo Parrish's Sound Signature, additionally to being a revered selector in his own right.

These four tracks exemplify just why Kaidi has garnered such an impressive body of work. From the opening strings of 'Treacle Manifestations' we're on a veritable journey of grooves. Delectable beats and percussion ride throughout, taking us into the nujazz flex of 'Seasoned Clouds'. The tempo drops a notch on the lowslung boogie of 'Chui Nui', and the BPM ramps up again for the heads-down, lights-off bump of 'Shims' to close out the EP. Sweeping synths, dusty rhodes and heavyweight basslines glide effortlessly amidst this 20 minutes of solid dancefloor fire.

EUPHORIAN ORCHESTRA is a Chicago-based band that uses acoustic instruments to achieve a post-Disco Jazz Funk Acid House sound and features the likes of EPHRAIM, MANASSEH and PELO MALO THE JAKE. Executive produced by GLENN UNDERGROUND and RICARDO MIRANDA.

Disco inflections and happiness-driven chanting begins this release. Off-placed rhythms call one to move. Listening and dancing, is what needed. Such need is further pursued in A2. Listen. Move.'Which Of The Waltzes' explores layering of sounds and is driven by Shama Joseph's spontaneous vocal improvisation. While the rhythm swings, the vocals and piano maintain the warm harmonies.The final track is a broken rhythm expulsion. Snippets of vocals and deeply resonating piano hints to what 'Which Of The Waltzes' could have sounded if further experimentation in sonic reductionism would have taken place.

Vincent Inc & his Manuscript LTD label are releasing some superb and highly collectable music from the vaults. Vincent Inc's desire to present so many years of music in a coherent way led to the decision to release a series of deep house releases, combining forgotten back catalogue classics with new timeless tracks. Now, Vincent Inc provides the next in a series of glimpses into the label's historic brilliance. These are not usual EP, where an ego is the focus, but a spontaneous venture, setting a new standard to how get deep creative music mind. Wildheart Recordings is Theo Parrish's new London-based label. 'Sound Signature releases for the body, Wildheart is for everything else' is Theo's pithy summary of his two labels' aims and compatibility.
Day Like This and Feel Loved are the first fruits of Parrish's work with the legendary Lagosian, Tony Allen. They met initially at the Red Bull Academy in 2007 in Toronto and linked again in 2010 when they spent a couple of days together in London, again courtesy of the RBA. (Their bond was forged further when they participated in the Honest Jon's Chop Up shows in London, France and Ireland at the end of 2011). Final work on the tracks was done in 2012 when Theo brought on board vocalist Eska, Andrew Ashong (following up from Flowers with another stellar contribution here, singing and playing bass) and guitarist David Okumu.
Day Like This is masterful modern soul music. At the point where Parrish's synth stabs into Tony's groove beneath a swirl of falsetto vocals, you know it - this is a Big Tune.
Feel Loved goes deeper and for some will hit harder. An epic sweep of synth this time, around which Tony plays with growing freedom and excitement - showing again that he is the best drummer on the planet - before a majestic coda brings things to a close.
Music for everything else indeed, but by all means for the body as well. For its first release, Wildheart is giving birth to a monster.
