So WOW... Jiraffe - Out'a the box. Well what can I say, when I first heard this record I just melted... On the first few bars and the tempo already was a fav, my ears pricked up and then woahhhhhh... That bass came in and oh god how that went through my whole body and shook me like a thunderstorm..those synths and percussion just left me floored... Probably one of the most cherished re-issues that you will buy... Don't know about Out'a the Box,... If you don't already own it, you will and it will be IN the box for a lifetime...

Marvin Jupiter is an 18 year old artist who mainly makes hip-hop music, using bass lines as rhythms more associated with funk. He uses and creates the sound of the modern day interpretation of trap adding his own personal twist.

'Reach' is a rendition of the typical "house" genre including rhythms sampled from South American cultures, using current sounds from the "trap genre" even having a small section of a "trap/hip-hop" beat towards the end of the song.

With their latest 'International Disco Mafia 2' release getting love from the likes of Marc Grusane and Jacques Renault, these Dublin based modern discotheque messers are on a roll.

Their latest sees Yorkshire based machine squelcher Perseus Traxx coming heavy on the A side with 'Pump It', which grinds a crashing jack track in and out of some choice disco snippets to create a relentless floorburner for 2019.

Sir Leon Greg is another of the Traxx-man's many pseudonyms, and 'Shakey' is an acid house tinged makeover of an old Northern Soul classic he made a few years back.
Fatty Fatty head honcho Pablo supplies his 'Warehouse Mix'Â of the track, which strings it out into a wild 10 minute trip that teases and caresses you before the strings and that chorus send you over the edge completely.

Last but not least, 'Last Days' will be, to some ears, the pick of the bunch - a rich, ever circling slice of funked up house music that will touch you in all the right spots, rounding off the package in some style.

Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan's Ouïe label acts as home for left-of-centre music from disparate sources - somehow connected by a thread of hedonism with a melancholic edge. Welcoming Kerela Dust to the imprint, this four tracker showcases the different dance floor shades the label always reaches. Kerala Dust are a London based trio that owe as much to Tom Waits as they do to Four Tet or DJ Koze, but somehow tread a fascinating line between genres and moods. Mixing jazz, indie and the sharper end of the club sound, Francesca's Frames is the perfect introduction to their vibe. 'Maria' is augmented with a thick, mid tempo kick and sparse, effective percussion. The clever vocals provide the topping - showcasing the band's pop writing prowess. The track will appear as a single release on 6th Aprila accompanied by a music video. Acid Pauli and Nico Stojan's remix picks up the pace a little, while dubbing out the elements into deep, late night dance exploration. 'Nyla' brings a new vibe, deep, pulsing synths and a bubbling baseline accompany the crisp, compressed rhythm track before Ed's iconic croon arrives to take the track to a new level.

The Pendletons take a bold step with their first full forthcoming length album, 2 Steps Away, releasing this spring on the Bastard Jazz imprint. Recorded in San Francisco with a rock-solid band consisting of some of the best musicians in the Bay Area, including guitarist Carl Locket (Shalamar, Rick James) and Star Creature recording artist Elive, the duo taps into a classic soul/boogie sound that rides a wave of '70s and early '80s funk with ease but somehow remains true to the excitement of those classic recordings without being overly nostalgic

Following on from 2018's 'Tribeca Tapes Part One' release, Willie Graf & his musical partner Darren Eboli deliver another fantastic 4 tracker on Copenhagen's Music For Dreams Label.

Willie Graff splits his year between DJ residencies in New York and Ibiza (Pacha). In this second outing with studio partner Darren Eboli, the influence is, African, NY clubbing, World mixing Mediterranean and further afield. The duo finds its roots in the past, building a link between the soul of a song and the warmth of a melody then combining them with a contemporary sound.

The opener 'All Is Bliss' sits at the pinnacle of the underground - A powerful, Balearic, disco influenced club track full of Spanish guitar, handclaps, club synths sounds like it was made for Dj Harvey's 'Mercury Rising' at Pikes in Ibiza. 'Ahimsa' is an outstanding track with funky breakbeat, weird Eastern samples, sneaking acid and Kraftwerk like arpeggios.

'La Sirena' is a balearic beach styled mid tempo chugger with chopped up breaks, deep sub-bass, Compass Point styled keys, whispering voices saying 'Let Your Mind Be Free'. If you are a Cafe Del Mar connoisseur and longing for that sunset moment 'Bellatrix' does the trick featuring bits of Spanish Guitar, Flute, Oboe and floating warm pads creating that early 90ties vibe. Night Palms is the first compilation from Hobo Camp. It explores the vibes of Adult Oriented Rock, G-Funk, Jazz, Boogie, and Soul; synthesizing these genres to a form more loaded and laid-back (perhaps on a careless night time stroll, returning from the dispensary or watering hole, to the jacuzzi, houseboat, or waterbed). A smoother approach to funk, similar in production ethos to many classic G-Funk tracks (where producers created or sampled the smoothest yacht-rock and jazz-funk moments to create bass heavy rap), Night Palms takes it one step further, offering original tracks that return more to the inspiratory sources of G-Funk...sonically and chillingly cruising at the perfect tempo. A vibe perpetuated by perfect night-time temperatures, mist, ocean breeze, the sound of flowing water, and the laid-back grooves that seemingly accompany it under the silhouettes of California Palm.

Brian Ellis kicks off the compilation with 'Tides', a drifting instrumental opus of melodic currents that glide and weave in and out of each other. BOY DUDE introduces the first vocal with 'Modern Day Confusion', a wavy, pitch-bending journey describing the mental woes and issues in modern society. XL Middleton and Ghost close out the A side with 'Forgot About Each Other'; a mid-tempo, keyboard-forward groove, echoing the notions of dying or diminishing love, accompanied by his signature emotive driving keyboard lead. On the B Side, Mat/Matix starts it off with the deeply aquatic 'Bay Breeze', which swings along with textured padding with an epic wet guitar solo by Liam Kevany. Moon B pours 'Marina Player' directly into the harbor with a beautifully mutant and tranquil theme that would seem perfectly-placed in a moody montage scene of a speedboat cruising silkily along the waters at night. Jomeo Pugz ups the ante in 'Hidden Zone', a drum machine love anthem that describes the nerve-racking and inspiring aspects of new lust, romance, and the possibilities created between two potential mates sharing space together—yet alone. 'Deregulate' by Elegant Borzoi closes it out with sweeping synths, loose grooves, and the subtle and sweet vocal accompaniment of Megan Doherty (of Social Lovers).

This LP is dedicated to designer, artist and friend, Trevor Tarczynski (RIP). The title 'Night Palms' was a recurring theme in his work, and the jacket cover was created from his archives.

Bike Thieves are back. On last year's celebrated 'Laura EP', the Stockholm duo plunged into the sounds of classic garage and deep house. On 'Catherina EP', Daniel Strand and Erik Danielson move in a slightly different direction. An explosive blend of afro grooves, tribal vocals and deep kicks and basslines, 'Catherina EP' lets the rhythmic frenzy of Fela Kuti encounter modern house. The record also features Saine, one of Finland's finest underground producers.

On the opening title track of 'Catherina EP', Bike Thieves offer a mysterious deep house burner which slowly builds up around punchy congas, sweeping pads and female chants, eventually exploding in an orgasmic djembe solo. They get even more organic on 'The Greatest Curve', an afro jam driven by funky basslines and polyrhythmic percussions. On the B-side, Saine offers his own take on 'Catherina', turning the track into a hypnotizing and sleepless groove of dance floor tribal.

Super disco dub mix action from Junior Negro! He transforms the cult classic Carver Area High School rap into a nice workable instrumental! Then "Lady Midnight" realizes its dreams as a French disco boogie jam through Junior's masterful touch of isolating the groove. Limited one sider!

« Remixes » is a meeting of French electronic champions.
French Touch veterans I:Cube and Chateau Flight, trendsetting DJ Raphael Top Secret and newcomers Flegon provide us with remixes of the autumn released LP « Sphere Of Existence » by Antoine Kogut.
Where the LP explored atmospheric and experimental pop, « Remixes » gives us a perfect four tracker that is made for the dancefloor.

On side A, Chateau Flight transforms the title track « Sphere Of Existence » into a 90's Italo house banger while I:Cube does what he does best in his unexpected dub version. On the B side, Raphael Top Secret reworks « Current density » into a Hip House track full of jaunty vibrations and newcomer band/label Flegon fulfilled their goal of working with their all time favorite French Touch pioneer label Versatile giving us a Nu-Disco remix of the song « L 'oeillet noir ».

Paolo Mantini is back on Rebirth with the new composition 'Jump Over The Hill'.
Musician, poli-intrumentalist Paolo studied double bass at the Conservatory of Brescia (Italy) and attended Electronic Music Composition at the Berklee College of Music. He is also behind Clockbeats and he boasts a worldwide network of professionals within the Music Industry.

Paolo's debut single in 2017, 'Next Generation', remixed by Pépé Bradock, has been played and appreciated worldwide, with enthusiastic support. 'Jump Over The Hill' is another sublime piece of music, exploring rooted disco and funk, with a contemporary dancefloor swing, perfect to really get a party going. A killer mix of rolling drums, wobbling (rubber) bass line, jazzy chords and infectious piano lines.

We are very happy to have Dego and Kaidi aka 2000black on this project. They produce a timeless remix with their unique futuristic beats and a mix of jazz, soul and electronic vibes. Glenn Astro delivers a delightful modern jazz-synth-funk influenced version, and, included here, is also the sought after Shield re-edit of 'Next Generation' featuring a live drum played by Francisco Mora, known for his collaboration with Innerzone Orchestra and The Detroit Experiment, heavily supported by Gilles Peterson.

The ultimate GAMM classic is finally re-pressed on a beautiful dinked 7inch and with the the original artwork too!

DJ Dan has been a pinnacle of the dance music scene in America since the early 90s and has toured around the world with the likes of Carl Cox, DJ Sneak and Pete Tong to name a few. Dan's label imprint InStereo is played by many top DJs around the world and Dan has chosen some of his strongest releases for Vol. 2 of the Slammin Trax series.

In 1980, the 9th Creation began working on new music at a Modesto studio, South East of Stockton. The studio was suspiciously cheaper than all of its competitors. After recording weeks of material, the band discovered the reason. 'We didn't know that the guys that were running the studio were drug dealers,' A.D. Burrise recalls. 'There was a big raid.' All the studio's master tapes were confiscated by the DEA. J.D Burrise unsuccessfully sued the DEA to recover the tapes but to no avail. Luckily Mike Micenheimer saved cassette mix-downs of some of the group's songs from those sessions. 'A Step Ahead' is the the 9th Creation's lost album. 8 unreleased songs of pure soul, funk, disco and boogie.

We are proud to present this lost album for the first time. The ultra talented Jacob Arnold also wrote the complete story of the band that we are presenting with never seen before pictures.

Finally the CD version includes bonus tracks from the Love Crime 12', the Mellow Music 7' and 3 previously unreleased (rough) demos.

"Funky Reflections' is the second release of Leipzig based sound maker, DJ and vinyl collector Duktus on ThinkLoud. The Mini-LP reflects Duktus' daily vibe in his own way. It tries to move you to dance, to have respect for one another, to embrace life, and if you follow the records' instructions, the funk will be with you!

After a spell on the disco sidelines, Dublin label Fatty Fatty Phonographics are back with the 2nd instalment of their 'International Disco Mafia' series.

Extending its reach around Ireland and then again over the sea to Italy, it begins with a 13 minute disco trip by a young man called The Crown Prince of Waterford, with the wirey Catholic white boy spirit of Walter Gibbons in his veins.
The immortally titled 'Getting Fingered On The Waltzers' is overloaded with fizzing disco-rock dynamics, crazy organs and driving endless drum breaks that keep on pushing you all the way to an inevitable, gushing disco climax. Phew!

On the flip we have another Irish up and comer, Island Times, and his chunky disco driver 'Together'.
Just like his debut on the first volume, this one comes up trumps with a big, drum driven sound and a loose, live feel.

Last but not least, we're travelling up along the Adriatic from Trieste with Umberto Lumber, who takes a classic slow jam and pitches it down Baldelli style to a sweet cosmic sludge.
Perfect as a mood setter or as a spaced out bump and grind to finish the night off, it rounds off this 3 tracker in some style...

There have been millions of typical disco edits in the last years. But there is so much more interesting music from the late 1970s and early 80s yet to bubble its way to the surface. One of those lesser explored fields is the crazy funky side of Germany's underground disco and new wave from that period. At the time, many German bands were trying to make their own version of English and American styles. After Kraftwerk and Can had started to use the German language in a cool, new way, many bands that followed in their steps experimented with German new wave. Most of these bands didn't reach a bigger audience. Their records never got pressed to more than 300 - 500 copies as they were a number of years ahead of the huge commercial explosion of German pop in 1984: The NDW aka 'Neue Deutsche Welle", with Nena's humongous hit 99 Red Balloons. The bands featured on the compilation released their music before the NDW hype and later broke up. Plenty of these early bands are best forgotten but if you dig deeper you'll find the gems, bursting with style and attitude. And that's just what Toy Tonics heads Mathias Munk Modica & Kapote did. They hit gold.

Part 4 of 5 to be released over the coming couple of months. Originally released on the Phono label in 1995/96 the 'Parts' series from Matthew Herbert are a much loved collection of house tracks that sound just as original and bold today as they did when they were first released. This series of 12's were part of an early wave of exploratory dance music that paved the way for the deep house that still works its magic on dance-floors in 2018 some 25 years later. The mix of Herbert's playfulness alongside expertly grooving production and unusual sounds makes this unique collection of work. The odd few tracks aside this is the first time that these releases have ever been repressed. All newly remastered for this reissue series, the releases include stone cold club classics such as 'Deeper', 'Take Me Back', 'Resident', 'People That Make the Music' and 'See You on Monday'.

Amsterdam-based producer and DJ William Djoko has announced his new EP 'Whiplash', on his brand new imprint, DJOKO.

His latest release follows the critically acclaimed reception of his stomping single 'OMG' on seminal New York house label Strictly Rhythm in 2017, a feature on the lead release from Loco Dice's Love Letters LP and a remix of Cassius on Ed Banger last year. Whiplash EP is self-released on his newly incepted label, Djoko, an independent platform for William to showcase his fluid, eclectic and continually evolving style as a producer.

The four-track selection varies in style and tempo, from the motoric, muscular groove of dancefloor weapon Whiplash, to the funk-inflected disco house jam Bernice, whilst rooted within his distinctive synthesizer and drum-heavy blueprint. Whiplash features vocals recorded by William himself, in his own words: "Everytime you feel down and out WHIPLASH/ Everytime you wanna go out WHIPLASH/ Everytime the money's out WHIPLASH".

Sammy Bananas, known mainly for his work on A-Trak's groundbreaking NYC label Fool's Gold flexes his versatility offering up 3 flavors of piano based, club ready dance tracks on his debut EP for Bastard Jazz, the "Piananana EP". The signature funky and quirky style which he developed over a decade of releases is still audible, but the material here is geared more towards foggy late night basements. "Non-Stop" is built around hypnotic, syncopated stabs which slowly grow into a bass heavy stomper, while "Thrilla" meets somewhere between Bmore and Hardcore while still staying in the pocket. "Finesse" is a hauntingly soulful groove with a snaking analog bass line and Parisian producer Hugo LX, fresh off an EP with DJ Spinna, rounds out the release with a reserved and enticing take on "Non-Stop".

Alex Zuiev hails from the coastal Ukraine city of Mariupol. His crisp drums and layered synths complement beautiful and obscure samples on his first EP for Whiskey Disco.

From the party vibes of 'Trenitalia' to the psychedelic flourishes of 'Flying Objects' and the booty-shaking groove of 'Soul Fire', while this is first EP, we really hope it's not the last!

After their first release on DEEPBLAK in 2017, Lars Bartkuhn and Aybee return as THE ASTRAL WALKERS with a brand new 12", this time on the incomparable NEEDS (not wants) imprint. The Foreign Exchange is an R&B/electronica/hip hop duo consisting of the American rapper/singer Phonte and the Dutch record producer Nicolay. The group have 6 albums to their name and are one of the most popular acts in the States. 'Body' is taken from their latest album released last year 'Tales From The Land of Milk and Honey'. Enter stage right, DJ Spinna (also a close from of the band's) who was entrusted with the job and what a job he has done.

Cabasa has off-kilter bass, Rhodes, dirty drums and grainy samples knitted together in to a groove heavy enough to get your Gran going. Hypnotic, trippy and disco at its finest.
Congo Club goes full cowbell and 80's drums. A chanted vocal wonks out over a Rhodes that weaves all kind of magic, then the lead drops and critical mass is reached.
The title track cracks on at a pace with synth strings, flanging bass, distorted drums and keys tying it all together. Latin percussion is dropped over a a sung sample and the swing is on.
Summer of Sam takes a more soulful diversion but keeps a foot firmly in the disco camp. The track builds with spacey atmospherics in to a track that will work in any situation.

Fresh from 1986, another slo-mo Disco / Boogie / Garage banger from the Easy Street catalogue. That's right, this is that downtempo electrified sleazy Funk that keeps dance-floors pulsing. It has all the trademarks of the time, dope futuristic synths, slamming low-key drums and a sassy vocal performance from Kim Marsh lamenting a useless guy and her heartbreak! Classic Disco subject matter indeed. This one stands head and shoulders alongside the Tanaa Gardners, Barbara Masons and all the other heavy hitters of the time.

'Main Thing' is a true rarity today and used copies command a collectors price on the second hand record market. Every home should have a copy of this, no proper Disco collection is complete without it. A record that will never go out of style & will always provoke some buckwild reactions on any dance-floor it's dropped on!

The German Jazz quintet Fazer releases the 12' White Sedan with two remixes by Glenn Astro & Hodini (Apollo, Ninja Tune, Tartelet, Money $ex etc.) and Werkha (Tru Thoughts).
The band appeared on the map in March with their self-released debut album MARA. The dynamic range of their drum-centered sound combined with extensive improvisation resonated with international listeners and DJs alike, appearing in sets by Mafalda or Louise Chen and on the waves of radio stations like NTS, Le Mellotron or Worldwide FM.

The original track builds on the so called - Guaguanco', a traditional latin rhythm that is closely tied to dance. Stretching over 7 minutes, the song opens with an introduction of the groove by the two drummers. The main theme then sets the mood that is maintained through searing trumpet kicks and two solos of remarkable restraint that is too often missing in the contemporary jazz world. After a reprise of the theme, the tune ends on a mellow note echoing its more frantic parts in a more soberly manner.
Romantic yet never tacky, White Sedan can be a special turn in an eclectic DJ-set as well as the soundtrack to a sundown getaway scene in a heist movie.

Glenn Astro & Hodini completely melted down the original stems, molding them into a glimmering warm-up gem with the usual virtuosic musicality they're both known for. While for their latest LP - Turqouise Turtle' on Apollo Records they pooled together individual tracks, this remix is their first proper collaborative effort so far.

Werkha's take incorporates the original rhythm but adds a breath of fresh air with deep jazzy keys and ecstatic Prophet synth stabs. While it starts smoothly, inhaling the vibe of the original, the remix evolves into a peak-time banger that could tear the roof off of any party at the right moment. The distorted percussive elements give the track a breaky attitude and expose the gritty northern roots of the Manchester-based producer.

Slow things down into a full balearic groove with this latest EP on Dekmantel by the Dutch production duo.
