Illyus & Barrientos were the names on everyone’s lips last year as they continued to impress with every single release and DJ set throughout 2018. They return to home label, Toolroom, with a vinyl release of their latest singles ‘The One’ and 'Shout'.

In true Illyus & Barrientos form ‘The One’ is a peak-time, raucous affair with gospel like vocals laid over the top of some insanely hooky brass sections and pounding drums! While ‘Shout’ is crammed full of fun and energy much like the personalities of these two Scottish heroes as they layer that classic Loleatta Holloway vocal over a tough and driving tech house backing.

Kenton Slash Demon return to Tartelet Records with Zstring + remixes by Urulu and Kasper Marott + 12' comes in vintage Tartelet sleeves circa 2009-2010. Limited Edition 400 copies. It's been ten years since Kenton Slash Demon landed on Tartelet with their debut EP Khattabi followed by the much-celebrated The Schwarzschild Trilogy singles - Sun, Matter and Daemon all released 2009-2011.Ten years have passed since our first release on Tartelet and with this record it feels like we've gone full circle. It's a beautiful thing.'Zstring marks their return to Tartelet - but it's also a precursor for things to come within the next year. With talks of a full-length album, the KSD project is now being given the attention it deserves.
Kenton Slash Demon have always had an affinity for uplifting melancholic tunes - and Zstring cements their ability to create just that. The track oozes with dance-floor euphoria, offering up a distorted arpeggio bassline, lush pads and layered melodies, all built around a tight and ever- changing groove. There are clear references to Italo disco, early techno and trance, but it's hard to pin down the exact style - if that even matters.On remix duties, man of the moment and label collaborator, Urulu, delivers a fresh take in his signature early 90s style, while local hero and close friend Kasper Marott of Monkeytown fame comes through with an obscure melodic techno workout of the finest sorts.
To further advance the concept of 'full circle,' the 12' comes in vintage Tartelet sleeves circa 2009-2010, salvaged from three different releases - which have been in storage since being produced.Zstring will be available April 12 th 2019 on vinyl and April 26th on all digital platforms.

Flevans returns with a killer 45 for the funky dancefloor! Leading the way is 'Who's Got Me' - an up tempo disco/boogie cut with more slap bass than a clone army of Larry Grahams... It's a tasty dancefloor number with a BIG top line from none other than Laura Vane (MJ Cole, Gnarls Barkley, Laura Vane and the Vipertones) who absolutely owns the vocal duties as anyone who is familiar with her work would expect. Oooh Weee!

Over on the other side we have more classic-sounding Flevans material with the party starting funk breaks of 'Take Your Money'. His signature jazzy keyboard and guitar licks converse with cheeky vocal samples all flying in and out of this slick production in a delightful fashion. It's all about the beats on this one - it's a guaranteed foot mover!

With this his 3rd Ep for AUS Tee Mango continues to cement his identity as a craftseman of the understated house Groove. EP#3 features a selection of expertly dug samples, that sit effortlessly alongside played keys, drums and percussion. With his love & respect for leftfield house masters Moody & Pepe Braddock worn here like a bage of honour.

Joe Claussell joined the MUSHROOM HOUSE series! The New York City DJ and music originator made one of his rare remixes. For the Toy Tonics series. Claussell is a pioneer. Blending African and Brazilian rhythms with Disco and House since the early 1990ies. Inspiring the music world with his labels Spiritual Life Music and Ibadan records and with his legendary Body & Soul parties that he run for 6 years with Francois K and Danny Krivit in NYC. For Toy Tonics he remixed an obscure afro funk song by German Afro - Kraut Band Karl Hector & The Malcouns and Nicolas Tounga, singer from Burkina Faso. The original song was released on a limited 7 on Now Again records/ L.A. in 2008. Sold out for a long time. Claussell's remix is an amazing 11 minutes afrotechno jam. A great journey though styles. Also on this EP: Night Masquerade by Vito & Druzzi. Again: NYC guys. You might know the boys also for beeing part of The Rapture/ DFA. Since a few years they produce electronic music under the name of Vito & Druzzi. Part of New York's Throne of Blood crew. Some might remember their vocal contribution for Joakim's Bring Your Love. On their track for Toy Tonics they go tribal. Somewhere between Steve Reich inspired Gamelan pattern, smooth flowing over a 4/4 beat top by a nasty, 1970ies Funk synth solo that turns the whole track into a new direction. Third track is by Kapote, man behind Toy Tonics and owner of many great records with hot samples. His Besamo Fly is a 110 Bpm slow house jam - makes you think about Mexican beaches or Paris Filter House nights of the 1990ies..

Limited information on this release, it contains two super edits that have been heavily road tested on a certain soundsytem that is currently doing the rounds. Not much information beyond that but the music speaks for itself. Slow mo with energy. More soon

Disco divas, Funky queens and Glam ladies in 70's and early 80's Taiwan!

Due to it's extremely complex history, Taiwan in the 70´s saw the creation of some incredibly special music in which the sounds coming at the moment from the west collided with the special sensitivity of Taiwanese musicians, creating a delicious mixture you´ll need to hear to believe.

The mighty Voyage return with their 5th release on this ever popular new label. Urulu real name Taylor Freels unleashes his Greetings From Namek EP this Berlin based California boy has recorded for some of world's most respected house labels such as Dirt Crew, Let's Play House, Needwant Shabby Doll Records, Morris Audio and his own Amadeus print....

With an innate talent for sunny, contemplative chords and clever drum programming this EP shows off his blissed dubbed-out club sounds he's become enamoured with while living in Berlin, as well as the synth-driven disco and boogie sounds which were a constant in his California upbringing.

Daje Funk’s quick-fire 5th release keeps their homegrown Italian theme going as it pairs Padova’s Paul Older with Rome born and now Sardinian based producer and Viaggio label boss Musta.

Seamlessly moving up from 7” to 10” on this EP presumably so they can cram even more groove in it’s a dynamite and exciting pairing.




Continuing with the club focussed funk style of previous releases Paul Olders ‘Sax Francisco’ screams 1970’s like it’s been perfectly transported from a film soundtrack where the police are chasing suspects through a crumbling industrial complex at the start of the show.
A bubbling bassline and that eponymous sax do the damage here. Freeform sax changes into looped up notes powering the breakdowns then into sublime jazz funk all the while perfectly re-imagined for 2020. It’s full of energy and verve aplenty.




Over on the flip Musta’s ‘Groovin’ It’ is packed with an altogether deeper funk. It’s a record in a hurry, one which wants to head straight to the dancefloor for a lo-fi funk-off. Big bass and spaced out vocals run things perfectly before a distant trumpet pushes the track onwards. ‘Groovin’ It’ is a real combination of styles. Dominating is electric Funk which is combined with Blues refrains, Jazz licks and some added African overtones just for good measure. They all come together for an energy packed club track which will undoubtedly pick up heavy DJ support.

The final offering from producer Mickey De Grand IV for his legendary imprint Cosmic Chronic. It's been almost 5 years since we have heard anything from the label aside from rumors of reissues of their coveted classics. Mickey announced the end of Cosmic Chronic to focus on new sounds and a new label, and wrapped the final session at Gangster Groove America (Miami, FL) with Junior Williams "Pennywise" in 2019. Another timeless funk anthem to close out their decade long reign.

Our first release of 2020 is from Nachtbraker. 'Fatoe Morgana' has a sound that draws from obscure dutch techno and trance as well as vintage UK tech house with a maturity and class of an artist who understands how to move a dancefloor, the Night Hawk's latest release will prick up the ears of those that have come before him as well as let his previous listeners know where he's headed.

PT 003 –Borrowed CS –Balance|AscendEP PT003 sees Planet Trip take a Trans -Tasman journey to Wellington, NZ for a new EP from the prolific Borrowed CS, alter ego of Lord Echo Drummer, Cory Champion. All four cuts on the EP see his deft drum programming laying a foundation for a tough and diverse record. The A-side holds thepercolating jack track‘Balance’ and the bleepy cinematic synthwork trip “Ururangi”. We’re proud to introduce “Afroderrick EP” by Voodoo Sound Club, the brand new 12” release on Mondo Groove. Afroderrick is a storming afrobeat track with special guest legendary italian trumpeter Roy Paci that originally came out on Guglielmo Pagnozzi’s Voodoo Sound Club project’s debut CD album on Cinedelic Records, “Same”, on 2011. The track became kind of a cult during the years with many DJ’s asking for a vinyl version. And here it is, in its full glory, the original itself opening the B side, followed by a solid breakbeat “Voodoo Strange Fruit Remix” by Detox, with the A side massive with another couple of interpretations, an euphoric house “Fresco Remix” done by Leo “Fresco” Beccafichi, DJ and producer and collaborator of Italian popstar Jovanotti, and another remix this time in trippy Afro style by heroes Daniele Baldelli and Marco Dionigi. You can’t miss this!

Sam Irl returns to Jazz & Milk with his latest "Free Two Grow EP", two years after his last solo release for the label ("Slower Bavarian EP", 2012). He has continued to develop his sample- & analogue synthesizer-based music further, keeping things raw and warm at the same time.

The EP starts off with the title track "Free Two Grow", an MPC live jam built around a hypnotic loop slowly developing into a heavy synth-driven Deep House tune. The B-side cut "Ions" builds on warm jazzy chords backed by tight rolling drums, creating a melancholic as well as a deep percussive vibe.

Representing his versatile musical background and his roots in Hip Hop culture, "Einerfuerheiner" combines heavy-hitting MPC-drums, raw sampling, dubby synth textures and a weighty bass foundation.

Sam Irl is a producer from Vienna worth keeping an eye on. He has released on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings ("Kutmah presents Worldwide Family Vol. 2" with Ritornell), Pomelo Records (as "Pulsinger & Irl" together with Patrick Pulsinger), Frank Music, Bonzzaj Recordings ("Untitled One" with Dorian Concept) in Switzerland and others. Besides releasing his own music he has done remixes for Aloa Input (Morr Music), Inverse Cinematics (aka Motor City Drum Ensemble), JSBL (Affine Records), Swede:art, Trishes (FM4), G.rizo and Munich's dialect-Hip Hop-group Doppel D.

Originally hailing from a small village in rural Lower Bavaria, Sam Irl has been living and working as a producer and recording engineer in Vienna for quite some time now. He produces tracks of various styles, ranging from sample-heavy MPC Hip Hop beats, analogue tape-recorded synthesizer Funk to raw Broken Beat and Deep House tunes.

Leeds-based 6-piece band Paper Tiger is without a doubt one of the most eclectic acts on Wah Wah 45s' roster. This creative collective's audible aesthetics feature a wide-range of sounds: from futuristic hip hop beats to funky and danceable electronic breaks, infused with grime and post- dubstep vibes, and topped up with witty wordplay.

Blast Off is Paper Tiger's second album, following their 2013 debut Laptop Suntan, and it represents a big step-up for the project, the result of refining and defining their process and sound, making it funkier, more live-sounding and experimental than their previous work. The band's distinctive playing is nicely supported by a heavy string of guests, such as Grammy-winning vocalist and producer Shafiq Husayn (Sa- Ra, White Boiz), teenage underground wunderkind Chester Watson, and Stones Throw signee Pyramid Vritra (Odd Future), making Blast Off a genre-defying showcase of flows, rhythms and improvising skills.

The album was mastered by LA's beat scene lynchpin Daddy Kev, founder of Low End Theory and owner of Alpha Pup Records (Flying Lotus, Brainfeeder).

Chapter 3 of the Tale of Tales series from us at Lagaffe Tales is finally on the horizon, fronting some of Lagaffe's closest friends. Neovinyl Records label head Carlo, Ari Bald from the Swedish Klubbhuset and our very own Jonbjorn and Moff & Tarkin.

The theme of this compilation could be a farewell wish to the summer, a sort of reminiscence of the good times, with good friends and summer grooves.

Four new loose and beautiful metropolitan house grooves from prolific NYC producer J Albert aka Jio Albert whose Mantra (as always) is to keep it simple, and of course, keep it 'Strictly J'!
In addition to the grime beats he's been releasing on Soundcloud under the DJ Osom alias, Jio has also explored other genres with a recent Black Opal release and a 12' on his own Exotic Dance Records imprint.'Strictly J' ,though is his scruffy take classic house on zones more into the Hot Music-Soho vibes. Characterized by busy percussion, off-kilter downtown beats, stops and starts, scattered breaks, and weirdly breezy melodies, these tracks are roomy def down for the summer.
Interestingly enough, I was subletting Jio's room last Summer in Ridgewood, Queens and was sitting next to him as he made some of these tracks while I worked my tech support job. He was listening to a lot of Buddy Rich, Bill Evans, and Jeremy Steig at the time."

Invisible City Editions reissues a selection of classic street soul tunes from the legendary duo Soul Connection (Toyin Agbetu and Earl Myers). A mix of well loved tracks from Soul Connection's 1988 "Rough & Ready" and 1990 "Raw Street Soul", remastered from the original master reels. This one has been a long time in the making and we are really excited to finally put it out!

You’d be hard pressed to find a more central figure to the story of ’80s UK Street Soul than Toyin Agbetu. A former computer programming prodigy turned musician/artist/producer, Agbetu was one of the principals in the development of a sound that merged the playful romance of soul music with the DIY ethos and raw, drum machine-driven beats of hip-hop and other burgeoning underground movements of the time. With his London-based independent record label, Unyque Artists, and a studio HQ-ed out of his Hackney bedroom, Toyin would embark on a remarkably prolific run as a producer and artist under a myriad of aliases and pseudonyms on associated spin-off labels. One such project was Soul Connection – a collaboration with friend and fellow indie label head Earl Myers that, despite its low-key bordering on phantom profile, yielded two albums, Rough and Ready (1988) and Raw Street Soul (1990) released on UA affiliate Intrigue Records. Though both LPs were well received upon initial release, the years since have only increased their stature amongst fans of elusive grooves. As evidenced by the six beloved tracks collected on Invisible City Editions’ Street Soul EP, Soul Connection’s addictively simple hooks, punchy mid-tempo rhythms, and forays into breakbeat and house remain as easy to appreciate as ever.

Hailing from the coastal Swedish city of Malmö, Sune steps forward to provide a fourth EP for Lorca and Liam Curran's Live Ones. With his Mimosa Kuriosa EP he serves up 5 masterful disco and soul inflected rhythms that'll hit all the right spots.

Having previously provided his signature sunshine grooves for Better Listen, Kyoku and his own Honey Butter imprint, Sune is fast building a reputation as a prolific purveyor of funk. The EP shows off Emil Sunesson's ear for playful samples and infectious grooves. Dusty, heady drum programming features heavily across all five tracks, employed subtly on the laid back 'Bring Some Tea' while unleashed to devastating effect on the upbeat 'The Way U Make Me Feel'.

There's something for everyone on this versatile, enigmatic EP from a talented young producer that we're sure you'll be seeing plenty more of in time to come.

Envee kept us waiting for his album a little bit too long, but our patience finally pays off - "Time & Light" drops later this year! But before this happens, we got an appetizer for you - 4-track vinyl EP with tunes that didn't make the cut, but are too good to be forgotten.
It is widely acknowledged that Envee aka "The Bear" is all comfy in club environment, so it was high time to release those four club bangers on a strictly limited (300 pieces) vinyl "Time & Light EP". Two instrumental deep house dancefloor fillers on the A-Side, and two surprising covers on the B-side. The latter ones you may have already heard in Envee's DJ sets - track ID requests were flowing in, so Envee decided to finally spill the beans and put it all out on vinyl.
Cover photos were taken by Filip Blank, Animisiewasz put all the pieces together, Envee did the mix himself and Eprom Sounds Studio is responsible for mastering. Quality guaranteed!

For our second foray into the vinyl world, Sprechen label head Massey joins forces with Sir Horatio, 'a certain' band from Manchester on collaboration cut 'Music Control'.

The result is a meeting of musical minds that blends together both parties favoured sounds to create a squelchy sandwich of post-disco/ proto-house with a healthy helping of acid & punk-funk which should appeal to fans of mucky basements and mature mosh-pits as well as those cosmic ALFOS astronauts.

Siggatunez kicks off his - Siggnature Series' with 3 impulsive club-based housetracks which are diverse but in the end all of a piece. Over the last few years Siggi developed a distinctive sound that you can hear with all its facets on the - Neighbourhood EP'. The tracks combine the use of accurately chopped samples, edgy drums, additional synthesizer-work and a solid fundmament in the lower frequencies. Enjoy!
