MERC is very proud to welcome Mark Seven as guest editor on E-Versions 7. It took a long time, a lot of telephone conversations, a lot of pleading, digging, sweat and tears to simply find out what TONY'S SLICE was after hearing it on Mark's Parkway Mastermix.
Turns out its MKVIIs attempt at recreating a live mix by Tony Humphries he heard on Kiss cutting 2 copies of the phone conversation back and forward forever.
With EV#7 looming we knew this would be a perfect opportunity to have a guest on the series, so we persisted and broke him down and he finally gave in to the pressure.
In addition to TONYS SLICE, MKVII has turned in a superb acid work out in the form of CASE STUDY 9.

Electric Minds began as a London based promotion outfit in 2007 before subsequently launching their label under the same name which is designed to act as a platform for their guests to showcase their productions. Over the years they've amassed a lauded back catalogue of releases which has featured the likes of Move D, Endian, Radio Slave and Mark E.
Now, in the follow up to their latest release from Last Magpie which featured Trevinoon remix duties they ready their next release from Hypercolour mainstay Shenoda. Originally hailing from Cambridge, Shenoda is an artist who has astutely touched on many basis across a multifaceted back catalogue. Releases on Fear Of Flying,ManMakeMusic and Hypercolour offshoot Losing Suki have seen him meld Garage, House and Techno whilst all the while keeping his eye firmly on the needs of the dancefloor. His latest offering kicks off with 'Mancs' that sets rapturous 90's rave stabs and arresting vocal snips over a tough and tight low-end groove. 'Nonamenoname' then nestles a loose-limbed thud under a glassy pad and off-kilter hat patterns ahead of the interjection of a rough, tangled bass pattern. 'Dave's Myth' then drives a stout kick under a thick, hazy texture before a rasping bass pattern steadily blooms into focus and rounds off another coup for Electric Minds.

Enki's promises have brought me to Eridu, now im full of hope and expectations. In my dreams night falls over the city of art and reation and magic while my eyes adjust to the rays of the sun. And reality was even more colorful, the procession absorbed me with a magic swirl and I was unable to make a clear decision against it. This is the moment in my life where I lost control, I was not myself anymore and thingsstarted to happen faster and more intense than I ever experienced. A cosmic ritual was happening, did they celebrate my arrival? The next thing I remember was the water flowing out of Enki's shoulders while Inanna seduced me to drink from it. They where fully aware that I had no idea what is gonna happen to me and they seem to enjoy my innocent questions. Totally delivered to the gods in the temple of Eridu, I was praying for mercy as I thought this would be my end. There was no pain, no suffering but I felt this was my execution. The next morning I woke up in Inanna's lap and she was smiling and demanded a gift from me. I said that I have nothing for her because I didn't know that a transformation has been happening and I am a new being.
The water I drunk from Enki' shoulders gave me the skill to tell stories through music. No matter what instrument they passed me, I played songs that everybody couldn't even imagine in their sweetest dreams. I could read people desires and fulfil them with ease. After a concert that went on for 3 days I was tired and they let me go. This new power in me was meant to enchant the whole world, not just the people in Eridu. As soon as I reached home, I was meditating and wrote

James K is a stranger to obviousness. Over the past few years the New York native has quietly honed her sound and peculiar aesthetic. Equally organic and electronic, her sound is a combination of odd dreams, industrial beats and vocals, both incomprehensible and appealing, with a thick layer of glitter on top of it. James K is a concentrated dose of emotion mixed with sorrowful iciness, which in turn ties together ripped, broken, morphed and enchanted samples. James K stands for a fusion of visual and sonic elements, deeply rooted in conscious art practice and downright freak-out. James K creates a mythology of her own.
'PET,' her first LP due out in early 2016, will be a co-release with Dial and her own label, She Rocks! A special edition of the album with added bonus tracks and interludes with be released on cassette through Canadian label 1080p.
In James K's words: 'The underlying desire of 'PET' divides into two parts: an escape into ethereality and a mischievous denial of my own experience. It narrates my search for honest expression by means of the premature denial- a childish excursion into a world of monstrosity and innocence.
PET reflects my mental state during its production - as a person, I was owned, objectified and hurt by other, and that wound I then unwillingly internalized. I turned to my music as a way to dissect these thoughts. The product became my possession, or 'pet.' In retrospective, this process gives me strength over myself; love—knowledge and wisdom enacted. The arrangement of the music and the PET itself relates to my endless struggle, namely, my attempts to reclaim myself.'
Her 'Sokit' 7' is a double track single for her album, which she released last Spring. James K is featured on the recent compilation released by Dial Records for their 15-year anniversary, and a mini LP of her noise pop project SETH (along with producer Gobby), was also recently released by label 1080p in June, in cassette and digital form. The one and only Mother Recordings welcome the always firing NiCe7 for a pair of red hot dance floor bombs. The Italian duo have released on the likes of DFTD, Crosstown Rebels, Snatch! and Mother previously, and they return to Mother with another couple of dance floor bombs.


„Disco Change“ kicks off with a razor sharp groover, rock solid kicks and plenty of tense synths. Once a big vocal arrives to bring diva qualities and lung busting hooks the whole tune goes to another level and will really blow the roof off.


„Look At Me“ then has a perfectly slinky groove with a real sense of skip to it. The hi hats are icy cold, the kick drums flap underneath, and then some old school chords come in to really get those hands in the air next to another fine vocal.

Lars Dales & Maarten Smeets aka Detroit Swindle make their AUS debut with the 'Rhythm Girl Swing’ EP. We're extremely honoured to release the first EP away from their Heist imprint in over four years. The classy duo continue the sonic exploration heard on their superb 2018 LP ‘High Life’ and deliver 3 electronic cuts varying from warm and soulful to raw and pumping. We’ll see a lot more new music from Detroit Swindle in 2019 and we’re happy to present you their unique sound with this release.

The musical journey through the seasons that began in 2012 with German Summer ends with German Fall. You can feel the melancholy that brings the end of the warm and bright days with it. A change in the state of mind towards the dark season. We tried to capture the beauty of this transition from bright to dark and turn the melancholy into something cheerful.

Closing out another breakthrough year, Anfisa Letyago has established herself as one of techno's most talked about names. An intrepid selector with a positive attitude regarding all things art and dancefloor related, the Russian born starlet has been making seismic waves within the industry for a number of years. Past releases have been featured on revered labels such as Carl Cox's Intec, Nervous Records, Hotflush and Rekids. Letyago returns now with a brand new project primed and ready for her own imprint - N:S:DA. Originally a celebration of her own dark-brooding style of techno, the label has entered a metamorphosis of sorts, welcoming in a host of established producers to remix the labels first releases.

The unapologetically raw house sound of DJ Seinfeld opens up the third and final remix EP, putting his own spin on Letyago's deep cut 'Insidia'. Cavernous synthlines occupy the track's main body, reminiscent of late seventies golden-era Chicago house. The remix is laced with hard hitting percussion and bubbling sound fx, a supercharged production primed for widespread club usage. Seinfeld welcomes us into the project with his trademark, rough and gloriously danceable sound palette.

Letyago follows suit by revisiting 'Nisida', reshaping the track into an electro-acid workout adorned with sharply tuned drums and heavily-treated shimmering vocals. The euphoria-inducing breakdown at the center point of the arrangement unfolds weightlessly, building into an energetic barrage of low-end frequencies. Letyago's ability to raise and release tensions within a track is truly exceptional, a technique she has perfected over several years of DJing, witnessing at first hand the importance of building up to moments of high intensity on the dancefloor for maximum impact.

Drum and bass royalty, Calibre offers his dark and brooding interpretation of 'Don't Hide'. The original track has been wickedly morphed into an after-dark roller fit for extensive basement usage. Commanding and minimal, Calibre's remix has been executed with devastating precision, perfectly balanced space-age pads glide seamlessly across the disjointed rattle of breakbeats and white-noise imbued hi-hats. A painter, fine artist, multi-instrumentalist, writer and producer, this multifaceted Belfast producer never ceases to disappoint.

Closet Yi concludes the compilation with a slow burning techno metamorphosis of Letyago's 'Listen'. Subterranean and primal, the track unfurls from its ambient beginnings into a low-end focused four-to-the-floor rhythm steeped in misty reverb and distant chords. Based in Seoul, South Korea, Yi has played at some of the most respected underground clubs in the capital, including Cakeshop, Faust, Pistil, Contra and more. A welcome addition to the remix project and a seductive end to this shadowy collection of tracks.

The idea for the title track Bako was born during a common vacation of Reboot, together with label bosses Nick Curly and Marc Scholl between breakfast & beach and turned into a real bass monster pearl.
The second track Match is a flashback to the old loop house days in the early days of Cécille Records.

On the long B-side is a very special track that is very close to our hearts.

Assign the Source was already created in 2008 and is still one of the favorite tracks of the label owners in Reboot's musical history

Detroit legend Rick Wade returns with his fourth Shall Not Fade release: a four track EP packed with different flavours from timeless deep house to drum 'n bass.

On Late Right EP, Wade delivers the classic Detroit-sounding deep house with which his name is synonymous, at times experimenting with stylistic elements borrowed from tribal house, acid and ghettotech. The title track is a punchy deep house track with a funk-infused bassline and jazzy ambience which carries through to the next two tracks where it's accompanied by the rattle of conga drums ("Kabukicho") and a gentle acid melody ("Acid Creep"). Finally, "Quantum Jit" brings things to a giddy close: a stripped-back club tune with skitterish claps and the syncopated breakbeat of drum and bass.

For our 4th original release we have a meeting of minds between two of our very close friends, Subb-an and Thoma Bulwer!

Made deep in the green countryside of Devon’s hills, before being adeptly finished off at TB Studios in Hackney Wick, the Devon Hills EP pulls together influences from 90’s tech house and early breaks to bring four driving and groove-laden tracks, functional but with heaps of soul.

The A side comprises two late night Autobahn bangers, rubbery misbehaved basslines and precise chord rhythms made to hypnotise the dance. Devon Hills is the most outspoken of the pair, with a loud chiming hook and an earwigging bleep melody, while DV-07 prefers to remain composed in its rolling bassline and sharp drum programming.

On the flip things go a little deeper with DV8, a padded out and chunky tribal breakbeat track with a deliciously crunchy snare. Closing out the four-track EP, East Wick lightens the mood with a sporadic break and bouncy synth melody, great afters tackle.
