Rogue Cat Sounds' presents their third offering courtesy of the Mind Fair-produced trio of the same name, Sundown Drive. A bubbling, sun-drenched, groover that really delivers, twisting and turning its way down to the beach in a near drunk ramble of blissful pianoids, meandering strings, stumbling percussion and a guitar that comes in and out like a well-suited Spanish waiter, before plunging into a deep blue tropical lagoon with an intoxicated jump and dramatic splash, thus taking you right back to the tawdry debauchery of that sunny, unforgettable getaway of '91; alas, leaving The Rhythm Odyssey to come along just at the wrong time, dry you down, dose you up and keep you dancing until the sun comes up, with a cocktail of dirty beats and a fidgety B-line to submerge you yet deeper into a blissful abyss.

What a joy to enjoy the house roar, the funk rejoicing and the black energy from the 90s of the first reference of this new Oblack label in which their own mentors, Los Pastores, debut. Who better than them to set the stage for a new sound platform in which, above everything else, there is no boredom and the track is greater than the one in a Formula 1 circuit.
In this 'Other Sentido EP' the duo from Valencia, facing the 90s without anger and with a clear underground scent -is more groove than ever, making a track which gets deeply involved-, with an original range of crazy sonic elements to it being added as it evolves. It finishes bursting into a kind of Martian orgy in which there is room for even breaks, 8-beats, Chicagoan pianos, soul vocals and all that amalgam of sounds, with nothing in common, but that together are a bomb -rare and catchy- on the dance floor. Different, fun and brave ... that's Los Pastores, and this 'Other Sentido EP' in which the unmarked cards of Oblack are disclosed.
Aldo Cadiz signs a remix based on the original track giving it a stronger and clearer appeal. He makes it more technical and shapes it, providing it with somewhat trance atmospheres, and then adjusting it to any club where these types of crazy tracks are enjoyed and no one knows what will happen right around the corner of each beat. Definitely, a bizarre remix that perfectly fits the disobediently dislocated and difficult-to-label track.
Finally, 'Curcuma', original track by Los Pastores, brings us back to those passages of house with strong African-American roots, a very warm percussive character - as addictive as prone to dancing-, and a taste for rumbling retro sounds - or we could better say timeless- which are recovered here to perfectly combine new with avant-garde. Afro sensuality, jazz dyes and synthetic soul are the unmistakable characteristics of the pastoral home. Bravo -Oblack and Los Pastores-, and carry on.

Chus L. Esteban aka DJ Chus started his professional career at the end of the 80's in his home town, amidst the full-blown euphoria of the acid-house movement at 'Alien', one of the first clubs of the famous Kapital Group. In August of '92 he was invited to play at the mythical Portuguese club Kadoc, where he was fortunate enough to share the booth with the best international DJs of the time It was then that his style, influenced by the Portuguese and American underground sounds, definitely converged into house.

When In September '94 Madrid's first house club, Teatro Kapital, was inaugurated, Chus became the clubs first emblematic resident DJ, lasting an extraordinary 10 years. His innate desire to create and improve led him to try his hand at production, with the guidance of the then up and coming David Penn, a logical and well chosen step in his career.

Angolan / Portuguese Batida (aka Pedro Coquenão) returns with a new single following on from his critically acclaimed debut LP released earlier in the year.

On the A-side thumping bass lines collide head on with 1970s Angolan music legend Carlos Lamartine. One of Angola's most influential musicians Carlos Lamartine began putting music out in the late 1950s and became increasingly political during the early 1970s as Angola struggled to gain its independence. The remix came about when Coquenão was finishing his record with Portuguese producer Beat Laden who created the original loop for Pedro to build an arrangement around. Done as a tribute to 'Kota' Carlos Lamartine the remix got the seal of approval from the man himself.

The B-side features a beefed up remix of album track 'Yumbala' by London based producer A.J.Holmes & The Hackney Empire. Batida worked with an Angolan artist called Sacerdote whom challenged him to record some verses highlighting the history of Kuduro but pointing in new directions. The result was 'Yumbala' where Sacerdote sings: "Kids pick up a chair and sit down. Kuduro is taking a different route. I don´t simply sing for fun but to contribute to this new generation. Don´t open your mouth to sing in vain.'

Las Malas Amistades — 'the bad influences' — are from Bogota, in Colombia; Maleza is their third album for Honest Jon's. Lovingly assembled, it presents twenty-eight exquisite variations of suadade, in an acoustic, post-punk take on Tropicalismo — knockabout, impromptu, snapshot and sublime.

'We worked on Maleza for four years. We didn't work on it all the time, though, but the songs kept streaming out and we just captured them whenever they happened to show their pointy little noses.
'If you read the lyrics for the songs in Maleza, you may think that these four years were especially eventful in the sentimental department. There is a lot of despair and anger and distrust, as if each one of us had looked for and found an especially ill-suited person to go out with so we could write a couple of sad songs about the whole experience.
'But if you don't read the lyrics and just listen to the music, both vocal and instrumental, you might get a different idea. It all sounds very peaceful and fragile, as if beneath that layer of anger there was always a melancholic yet

This release should have an 'all natural ingedients' sticker on it. All sounds you hear are from
traditional instruments - recorded on various occasions in Ivory Coast. It took Mr Raoul K quite some
time to get his hand on all the raw materia he needed. He then cut it in bits and pieces and rearranged
the sonic puzzle to a slowly evolving track. Join his journey that starts in the cold of a desert at night.
The temperature rises with the sun. When things heat up too much, you have to take a rest in the
shadows beneath a tree. Meet some fiends, talk and relax - but don't get lost. Keep you groove alive
and head toward your destination.

Futureboogie Recordings shift into a different sonic landscape for their ninth release, welcoming up-and-coming Sweden based producer Crackazat to the fold with the beautifully balanced Tunnel EP - three tracks teeming with musical ideas, crossing dancefloor effervescence with mesmeric downbeat.

Ben Jacobs, aka Crackazat, is a multi instrumentalist, composer and producer with a background in jazz and live performance, recently supporting both Floating Points and Bonobo. Originally from Bristol, England, and now residing in Sweden, Crackazat explores a breadth of sounds and textures, warm and soothing and glistening with live acoustics alongside rippling electronics - from dense and intense to laid-back and groovy. Earlier this year Crackazat appeared on the 'Futureboogie 10' compilation with the gorgeous 'Passagem', and won over the heads with his elevating 'Explanation EP' on Astro:Dynamics.

Title track 'Tunnel' literally burrows straight for the throat. It's deep burbling electronic bassline is given menace by the subs, as hypnotic, cosmic melody interplays overhead - somewhat unexpectedly turning into a massive Detroitian techno slap round the chops, with punching synth stabs, buzzsaw bass hits, and soaring keys. Dare we say a softer, more melody observing take on the UR sound Maybe, but we do definitely dare to say it's a big gun for a techno left step dancefloor. 'Book On The Beach' reveals a love for samba beats, fusing traditional rhythms with lush electronic textures whilst final track 'Panick Aggressive' floats in on super sultry mood, rhythmic twinkling bells and humming bass. As the sweet guitar riff kicks in, the track takes hold with a summery fluid motion, heart-warming, soul soothing electronic fusion in a down-tempo groove

A sophomore three-tracker: singer Mbene Diatta Seck in sombre consideration of street-kids and parental neglect, buoyed by propulsive drumming and trenchant bass; a second version without vocals, laying bare the poly-rhythmic interplay between marimba and percussion; and a mesmeric six-minute instrumental, with bassist Thierno Sarr grooving out on the top string of his instrument, bringing an elusive Manding flavor to the deep Mbalax mix.

The first single from Frente Cumbeiro's Mario Galeano and Will 'Quantic' Holland's new all-star Colombian band Ondatrópica gets served up here as a DJ friendly 7' ahead of the worldwide album release on 16th July. Ondatrópica brings together an all-star cast representing both the classic and modern styles of la musica Colombiana and features legendary figures (Fruko, Anibal Velasquez, Wilson Viveros, Michi Sarmiento to name a few) from Colombia's rich musical past alongside younger Colombian musicians including members of both Mario's band Frente Cumbeiro and Quantic's Combo Barbaro as well as some specially invited guests.
'Punkero Sonidero' is a raw, instrumental tune and with its analog synth bass and four-to-the-floor feel is the band's salute to the cumbia diaspora worldwide. It was one of the first tracks that the group recorded after they entered the famous Discos Fuentes studios in Medellín and so it seems fitting that it should be the first track to get cut to vinyl.
'I Ron Man' is on the flip-side, a drunken take on Black Sabbath's classic 'Iron Man' with a tongue-in-cheek title - 'Ron' being 'Rum' in Spanish. The track features Michi Sarmiento, the big-hitting saxophonist of the golden age of Colombian music who, along with Will 'Quantic' Holland and Mario Galeano, takes a toast of rum (ron) and whisky to celebrate the world's common interest of inebriation.
