HUGO MOOLENAAR - MOCKO JUMBIE

Compilation of the best tracks of Mocko Jumbie's only two albums, infectious blend between funk/soul/soca, has a disco tinged feel on 'Children Children' and a electronic edge on 'We Can Live Together', flipside holds lovely soca tunes.

The second youngest of eight children, Hugo Leanzo Moolenaar was born on September 23rd, 1948, in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. His mother was from Puerto Rico; his Dutch-German father worked as a contractor, but also played the guitar and had a 6-piece band that performed at house parties. The young Hugo was a born entertainer. Watching his elders, particularly an uncle who played the ukulele, he began to teach himself to play guitar, practicing on his own. Eventually he began to perform his own songs as he gradually gained confidence and ability.

As well as being a proficient musician, Hugo would also become a highly skilled Mocko Jumbie — a performer of the carnival stilt dancing tradition which has had a presence in the Virgin Islands for several hundred years, and which historians consider to have been brought to the Caribbean by enslaved West Africans.

Carnival in the Virgin Islands was revived in 1952, and from then on it became an annual event. The two most famous Mocko Jumbies at this time were John Magnus Farrell and William Richardson (to whom Hugo would dedicate his second album). The pair mentored a young talent named Alvin “Allie” Paul who later in turn would go on to teach many others. In 1964, at age 14, Paul entered the St. Thomas carnival as a stilt-dancer, and revolutionized the Mocko Jumbie style. While Farrell and Richardson would perform in a more European influenced outfit — usually a conical shaped hat, a female dress and a wire mask — Allie brought back some of the older African influence, wearing what some say is a Ghanaian-style hat and striped pants to cover the stilts.

Paul founded his own troupe in the late 1960s. He was the first to allow female students, starting by teaching family members and friends. One of his best students was Hugo Moolenaar, who quickly became known as one of the fastest dancers on the 6’ stilts, and was renowned for adding kung-fu-style moves to his performances.

In 1968, Hugo enlisted in the US army. He served in Vietnam, where he was severely injured. In 1970 he was honorably discharged and was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart for his service. Nevertheless, his injuries did not stop him from returning to Mocko Jumbie performance, and his reputation continued to grow. He also began to work for local government in St. Thomas. In the fall of 1982, Hugo was asked to become a resident performer at the Hotel Shibui in Contant Hill, St. Thomas after a convincing audition for the manager. Hugo brought in his girlfriend Juanita, a singer since high school, and a duo was born. Together, they performed Hugo’s compositions. Eventually, Juanita started to learn Mocko Jumbie as well. The couple, who were married in 1983, later founded a Mocko Jumbie school, that at its peak had 75 students.

The steady income from the hotel residency provided financial opportunity that the entrepreneurial Hugo seized. Travelling with their band to Puerto Rico, Hugo and Juanita hired a local horn section and created Hugo’s first album, entitled High, High, High, a reference to the Mocko Jumbie tradition. The cover depicts Hugo dressed in a golden outfit on stilts, on a palm beach, holding a guitar while Juanita looks on from the ground, holding their two children. Hugo’s second release, Mocko Jumbie Jamboree, came out not long after and also featured original compositions. It was recorded at the local Virgin Island studio Turtle Point. Both albums were self-distributed and feature a heady cocktail of island and popular sounds – from jump-up calypsos and kaisos to drummachine modern soul and upful disco.

During his career, Hugo performed the Mocko Jumbie on many neighboring Caribbean islands, as well as in the US, in New York, Portland, Oregon, and at the 1979 Super Bowl show in Miami, alongside the Grammacks band from Dominica. He also performed in Japan, as well as at the Festival de Música del Caribe in Cartagena, Columbia, where he appeared in a bullfighting arena with a group of the finest Mocko Jumbies and a local Virgin Islands band. But in 1989 a hurricane — ironically named Hugo —destroyed many of the Moolenaar’s belongings, including master tapes and photos, leaving them with very little to show for their long careers.

Hugo retired in 2008, after working 32 years for the local government. In 2009, the Virgin Islands Department of Tourism adapted a new logo, a Mocko Jumbie. I’d like to think Hugo Moolenaar was a part of the reason.

Hugo passed away on January 25th, 2012, from cancer. It is thought that the disease may have been a result of exposure to Agent Orange during his military service in Vietnam.

To his very last day, Hugo lived by his motto: “Peace, Love and Happiness Always”.

ABELARDO CARBONO Y SU CONJUNTO - Guana Tangula

Carbonó's early work was different from his contemporaries. It was definitely not salsa, nor was it really cumbia. Rather, it was novel and genius polyglot stew of diverse musical strains with African roots but never before blended in this way. Styles like afrobeat, soukous and highlife were effortlessly stirred together with elements of the Cuban son, touches of Latin rock and funk, with a pinch of calypso, a hint of Haitian compas and even a dash of rock and roll, not to mention a foundation of local coastal Colombian varieties like vallenato and porro This 1980 LP still sounds refreshingly unique and hip today, as if Abelardo Carbonó y su conjunto were the missing link between the 1950s pan-Caribbean acoustic guitar-led sounds of Bovea y sus Vallenatos and the more electronic and Africanized genres of champeta and terapia of more recent years. You can even hear slide guitar and psychedelic echo effects in the mix, which brings the recordings to a whole other level of the unexpected. Presented in its original artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl. Further reading: Colombian music has its true originals, rebels and geniuses. Many have commercial pop sensibilities, good luck, and achieve stardom in their time. Others have not been so lucky and are just a little too original and outside the norm to be widely accepted or well known. Thankfully, if they were lucky enough to find a sympathetic record label, their pioneering work at least found a home. Such is the case with Abelardo Carbonó who, despite thinking 'outside-the-box', was able to record two brilliant albums in 1980 and '81 for Codiscos' imprint Costeño, as well as several other labels, his first being Africa llama under the band name Grupo Abharca for the Sonolux imprint Caliente in 1978. Guitarist, singer, songwriter and one time policeman Abelardo Carbonó (b. 1948, Ciénaga, Magdalena) hails from Baranquilla and his early work was different from his contemporaries. It was definitely not salsa, nor was it really cumbia. Rather, it was novel and genius polyglot stew of diverse musical strains with African roots but never before blended in this way. Styles like afrobeat, soukous and highlife were effortlessly stirred together with elements of the Cuban son, touches of Latin rock and funk, with a pinch of calypso, a hint of Haitian compas and even a dash of rock and roll, not to mention a foundation of local coastal Colombian varieties like vallenato and porro. Carbonó himself has admitted that Venezuelan psychedelic afro-rock outfit Grupo Bota was a big influence as well, and his father Abelardo Sr. was a famous porro and cumbia guitarist in Los Tigrillos, which must have affected Abelardo Jr. from the beginning. You can even hear slide guitar and psychedelic echo effects in the mix, which brings the recordings to a whole other level of the unexpected. The particular blend Carbonó and his bandmates created sounded unlike anything else at the time, and is still refreshingly unique and hip today. It's as if Abelardo Carbonó y su conjunto were the missing link between the 1950s pan-Caribbean acoustic guitar-led sounds of Bovea y sus Vallenatos and the more electronic and Africanized genres of champeta and terapia of more recent years. Joined by the crucial nucleus of his brothers Abel on lead guitar and Jafeth on bass, Carbonó's debut record Guana Tangula has a pleasingly easygoing, deceptively simple sound with a tropical, African vibe that features lilting acoustic guitars, pleasant but slightly odd vocals and snappy percussion (including the traditional vallenato caja drum) that would change later with the addition of amplified electric guitars, drum machines and loops. There is a certain casual playfulness and freedom in this LP that brings to mind swaying palm trees, white beaches with turquoise waters, sunshine and romance. At the time it came out, it was a popular record. However, soon after he recorded his second disk for Codiscos, La negrera del negrerío, things changed in Colombia due to the ascendancy of the drug cartels and 'payola' was the name of the game, so Carbonó's brief chance at big label mainstream popularity lost out to huge bribes by the marijuana traffickers who wanted their preferred artists to rise to the top. Thankfully his profile has been restored of late through various compilations and collaborations, which is all the sweeter because he's still performing and recording, and this faithful reproduction of Guana Tangula should serve as a crucial part of Abelardo Carbonó's legacy for years to come.

La Fine Equipe - 5th Season

From 2008 to 2014, La Fine Équipe perfected its sound within the “La Boulangerie” trilogy, while working on the creation of the Nowadays Records label (Fakear, Skence, UNNO, Clément Bazin, Leska, Douchka…). A maddening number of concerts around the world, tours in Asia or South America, featurings with international artists ...

After years of bringing together a nascent scene and putting others before their group, sculpting a structure conducive to independence and creation, La Fine Equipe has decided to take a step forward, to embark on a new cycle with “5th Season ”.

Since the band works with eight hands and four brains, it's no wonder that the album sounds like a compendium of their respective influences and experiences. Hip-hop, of course, sampling (as a sound color rather than as a pure musical technique), electronica, but also French Touch, alternative rap, Latin and jazz sounds ...

“5th Season” is also a look at the world that affects the state of the planet, the cosmos, the plant, what is bigger and stronger than us, what could well lead to our loss. It’s an almost apocalyptic view of our future, but one full of optimism nonetheless. There is something very solar and cinematic about this album.

True to their status as spearheads, the four beatmakers continue to invite artists to perfect their world. Illa J and T3, respectively brother of J Dilla and member of the legendary Slum Village, make the junction between their glorious past and the future represented by La Fine Équipe on the title “The Source”. On Aurora, it is the mystical voice of singer Madjo that sublimates this solemn electro-pop track. The American rapper Mr. J. Medeiros on the boom-bap ode “What Eva”, the Montrealer “ZéFire” on Typical… All these musicians put their hands together to give “5th Season” an unlimited musical richness and totally uninhibited.

'Baby’ – cross it off your Wants List at last. Written by Caetano
Veloso, arranged by Arthur Verocai, covering Gal Costa. An
absolutely killer Brazilia modern soul jam – a rarity in Brazil
that we hammer in DJ sets and have been wanting to release for a
while. Taken from the Quinteto Ternura self-titled LP from 1974.

‘Filhos De Zambi’ is uptempo samba-funk of the highest order, and now very difficult to find at a decent price in it’s original RCA ’compacto’ format. Percussion high on the mix, hands claps and a brilliant harmonised chorus line.

22.03.2024

Marcia Maria’s slow to mid tempo disco gem 'Amigo Branco’ has become a club favourite in recent times. Released in 1978 on Capitol Records, despite being better known these days, is actually from the hard-to-find and expensive album 7” EP & promo-only 12” single which features the greats Lincoln Olivetti & Robson Jorge in the production team. Not many tracks sitting around 96 BPM work so well on the dance-floor!

It could be argued that the talents of Simone have been somewhat over-looked of late. A key performer of Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), who has had a remarkable career recording over 30 albums. Simone’s adaptation of 'Tudo Que Voce Podia’ is a real treat and takes things back to the start of her career.

Taken off the self-titled album from 1973 on Odeon Records, this brilliant anthemic song was penned by Lô Borges & Marcio Borges and has also been recorded by the brilliant Milton Nascimento, Quarteto Em Cy (see BRZ45.09) & Azymuth. This stripped-down version has a beautiful build, with amazing strings riding the percussion & jazz-funk bass line, ending in melodic whistling.

Various - SOL VIBRATIONS-LATIN DANCE MOVEMENTS

Following on from the release of 'Modern Jazz Dance Classics, Volume One' in 2019, which was popular on the jazz underground, the Staubgold's MJDC sub label returns with another compilation comprising mainly of contemporary artists carefully selected by DJ Jeff The Fish, this time on a Latin trip for 'Sol Vibrations: Latin Dance Movements'.

There are carefully selected tracks from all over the world to make a great set and selection, including three acts based in Catalonia (Tromboranga, The Santiago Acevedo Ensemble and Antoine 'Tato' Garcia), some from the US (Camille, EC3), the UK (Alex Wilson, Born 74), France (Mayomi, Camarao Orkestra), Japan (Jizue), Brazil (Fabio Chagas), Cuba (Jean Pablo Torres) and Uruguay (La Calenda Beat).

For some time now in the continual hunt for new DJ material to play in the jazz scene, the Modern Jazz Dance Classics label (a division of Staubgold) has been coming across great tracks by current artists that are often only available on digital or CD format. The brainchild of French based DJ Jeff The Fish and Markus Detmer at the Staubgold record label in Germany, MJDC aims to provide DJs with this new music on vinyl and inject new sounds into the jazz dance scene.

Supersan - Enter The San

LP with download code!!!

SUPERSAN is the brainchild of Panama Cardoon and Mister Kentro. The dedicated party starters of the greek nightlife came up with this genre bending project and ever since they performed in festivals and venues in Europe, Africa and Asia, had their music featured in documentaries and their tracks supported by BBC Radio among other stations worldwide. A fusion of dancefloor oriented – future electronic beats and earthly exotic rhythms from across the globe directly from Athens, Greece.

The duo started working together with the idea of uniting the Tropical spirit with the Caribbean and Jamaican styles, all blended with electronic contemporary beats.

Forthcoming on Galletas Calientes Records, “Enter The SAN” is a powerful opus, a deep and electronic journey to the high frontiers of North Africa, Southern Europe and Middle East; Undoubtedly the Greek duo’s best achievment so far.

Crafted with an ear towards contemporary appeal, “Enter The SAN” consists of 10 instrumental tracks with straightforward structures and sophisticated melodies. It typically uses heavy percussion to accent modern and diverse four-beat drum patterns, prominent and often melodic electric bass-lines and distinctive chord progressions. Pop and electronic production and mixing techniques are clearly audible throughout the whole album, harmonically uniting the traditional instruments with the modern string sections and vocal samples chops.

Still riding high on the support for his recent Circus collab with Ki Creighton, new UK talent Kydus immediately returns to the label with a brace of new tracks that have already become proven weapons in the sets of label Yousef and the mighty Carl Cox.

His latest double-header sees him turn out more fierce grooves and raw funk with a large helping of sun-fuelled piano for good measure. Free Spirit is captivating from the first drum to the last.
A rolling groove, almost house, almost techno... A poignant story told that surrounds the listener with uncompromising positive energy, a huge summer moment if there ever was one. Yousef has been nurturing the demo for almost six months, building it from a secret weapon to Circus anthem.
Cala el Verano see's Kydus share the load as he continues the house techno hybrid, yet with a lighter touch from the musicianship of Naples born Dj Dep.
While the signature chunky groove of the UK producer remain the focus, it's the additional top line that energises the collaboration with a touch of hedonistic freedom. A real gem.

LA DANZA DE LOS MIRLOS

2x12inchVAMPILP231
Vampisoul
26.04.2021

Afrosounds mission was to emulate the guitar-heavy tropical sounds emanating from Peru and Ecuador at the time. To add to the hippie vibe, there were plenty of whacky improvised vocal asides (called inspiraciones), plus custom fuzz, wah-wah, flange and echo effects boxes for the guitar and keyboards. A barrage of odd sounding synths, drum machines and other electronic flourishes were also sprinkled in to spice up the proceedings. The dozen tracks on Afrosounds debut long play make for a surprisingly diverse palette from which these Colombian musicians painted their daring portrait of Peruvian cumbia, returning the favor in bold colors that still resonate almost 50 years later. "La danza de los mirlos" kicks off with most famous Afrosound hit of all, Caliventura, a genius blend of funk and cumbia. Also, there are several covers including various Colombian costeno classics, a groove oriented son montuno / cumbia hybrid, Frukos bomba-funk ditty El chorrillo, the melancholic psychedelic cumbia Esperando por ti and the rocking cumbia andina gem Cabeza de chorlito. This lovingly restored reissue features the artwork for the Peruvian edition, which was licensed and issued by Limas El Virrey label in 1974.

Having discovered electronic music at the end of the 90’s, Thomass grew up going to raves where trance was one of the main styles played at this massive partys. He moved on to different pastures soon after but the style was already in him. Thomass now takes the old fashioned elements he still likes and takes them to new directions. Thornato - Escape Plan

Thornato

Escape Plan

12inchWONDERLP48
Wonder Wheel
22.12.2020

Pulsing, vocal-led club sounds meet dub-inflected, Afro-Latin percussion on Escape Plan, the second album by Swedish-born, New York-based multi-instrumentalist and producer, Thornato, coming soon on Wonderwheel Recordings. Thornato's latest full length features a formidable cross-continental cast of special guest vocalists, from Mexican electro-Latin dreamers, Sotomayor, Busy Twist member and Ghanaian powerhouse singer, Zongo Abongo to British Latin-folk minimalist and producer, El Búho. Produced over the last two years yet accelerated during lockdown, Escape Plan is the genesis of Queens-based, sonic voyageur and self-proclaimed 'sound-hoarder', Thor Partridge. Surrounded by traditional Greek, Caribbean, African music, at home in rural Sweden and eventually New York City, Partridge fell in love with sounds from all corners of the globe at an early age. Having trained classically in piano and guitar, Partridge became enveloped by the sounds of Dancehall, hip-hop and salsa pouring out from car speakers, shops and apartments on the streets of New York, before Partridge sought to go one step further and meet the people behind the music, spending time in Mali, India, Colombia and beyond, collecting field recordings, linking up with different groups out there, before diving into his own world of sound. "I was always interested in having a balance between more organic sounds and prerecorded sampled sound. I kept audio journals, I recorded conversations, I just wanted to record those special moments. I kept folders and folders of that stuff on my hard drive. Music has always been the centerpiece of it. As long as there is soul and connection, the recordings will carry themselves". Having learnt his chops DJ'ing at Bembe, a legendary global music hangout in Brooklyn, Partridge took up production, initially putting out bootleg remixes and edits, before redirecting his efforts towards nurturing his own sound and style. A period spent linking with different labels (ZZK Records, Man Recordings) and producers, MCs he met on his travels abroad and in New York, led him to releasing his debut album Bennu in 2017, an international melding of global psych beats, balearic trance and West African drumming, featuring Polaris-Prize winning Colombian breakout star, Lido Pimienta and New York staple The Spy From Cairo, picked up by renowned producer and DJ, Nickodemus and released via his label and "family", Wonderwheel Recordings. Part inspired by a recent trip to Ecuador (to work with Afro-Esmeraldan ensemble, Grupo Taribo), part determined to dig into his vast archive of recordings with the free time presented during lockdown, his new album Escape Plan is a kaleidoscopic 10-track collection of vocal-led, dancefloor-energising productions made by Partridge since Bennu, that you'll be wishing you could hear on a big club sound system. However, the central theme Partridge kept circling back to was this idea of an "Escape Plan", a concept he encouraged the vocalists to explore within their lyrics. "I feel like I've lived in the city my whole life. As I've got older, I've noticed I've become really rundown by the congestion, the pollution, the concrete. I was born in rural Sweden, I feel like the core of who I am really resonates with nature and so when I was doing the album, I was thinking so much about my physical and philosophical escape plan. I think it was a tension within me, and really wanting to bust out and that energy led to the tunes just coming out unconsciously better for the dancefloor". From the hypnotic trance-like Andean bounce of Out Here to the club-ready, twisted techno anthem La Niña Grande, featuring fellow Wonderwheel artist, Sotomayor, Escape Plan is full of richly absorbing and disparate layers. The glorious and beguiling instrumental and heavy 60s cumbia-inspired stomp of Break Away, is lively and conversational, whilst the galloping psychedelic old western meets slow house Fairuz of Yahawa featuring KarenBe & El Búho, and the uplifting, kora-led minimalism of The Fairest featuring Dancehall MC, Jahdan Blakkamore, drive the energy levels higher and higher. Whilst Partridge's "Escape Plan" out of NYC to the Catskill Mountains later this year is bang on track, his latest album might just provide the soundtrack to the rest of us hatching our own routes out of these crazy times.

A psychedelic album with dark and somber tones but also full of groove and punk defiance, that is quintessentially Uruguayan.

Nonato Buzar - CAFUA

Nonato Buzar

CAFUA

7"-VinylBRZ45074
Mr Bongo
22.11.2019

The late composer, arranger, musician and record producer Nonato Buzar is a lesser known great (outside of Brazil). His legacy leaves behind a rich body of recordings, working with some of the cream of the Brazilian 60s and 70s music scene, such as Evinha, Elis Regina, Wilson Das Neves to name a few as well as Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. The awesome organ driven dancer of ‘Cafuá’ is taken from Nonato & Seu Conjunto’s 'O Som E O Balanço De Nonato’ album from 1975 on Som records.
Mr Bongo re-issued José Roberto’s (aka Ze Roberto) ultra rare 'Lotus 72 D' 7” earlier in 2019. 'Crioula Multicolorida’ though not as scarce as ‘Lotus' is still a hard record to find and is equally as great. This anthemic ‘samba rock’ gem, with its amazing breakdown, originally appeared as the B-side of a 7” in 1974 on RCA Victor. It has since been a favourite amongst Brazilian DJs and collectors, featuring on the influential ‘Via Brazil’ compilation series and 'Brazilian Beats Brooklyn' collection on Mr Bongo.

Jorje Ben/Baby Consuelo - Waimea 55.000 / Curto De Véu E Grinalda 7"

Two giants of Brazilian music back-to-back!

Jorge Ben can do it all - vocalist, songwriter, musician, producer and to many their ‘all-round’ favourite Brazilian artist. Jorge has had an amazing career, involved in music from the early 60's through to the current day, writing countless classic songs for him and other artists.

This awesome samba-disco-funk joint 'Waimea 55.000’’ is a lesser-known production, taken off a 7” B-side released on Som Livre in 1978. This is a gem which needed to be dusted off and given the
wider audience it deserves.

Baby Consuelo with her distinctive voice is one of Mr Bongo’s favourite Brazilian singers. The only female founding member of the mythical group Os Novos Baianos, Baby is a real innovator andpioneer, changing her persona and musical styles over the years, but still staying unique.
Here we have Baby at the start in raw psychedelic hippy mode,
giving a powerful vocal delivery where she manages to sound simultaneously badass and lovable. This early song was released in 1970 on RGE records on a compacto 7” credited to Baby Consuelo and additionally featured on OsNovos Bahianos’s debut album 'É Ferro Na Boneca!’ in the same year (re-issued on Mr Bongo in 2019).

Lost in Rio - Little Piece of Heaven / Little Piece of Heaven (Studio84 remix)

MD Records, a small independent label started in 2018, are pleased to present the debut single from “Lost in Rio” on the new MD Gold series imprint.
Their debut single which will be out in August, ‘Little Piece of Heaven’ is a festival summer feel good slice of Latin pop featuring energetic musicianship and the vocals talents of Highland based Miss T.It is also something the guys are, rightly, very proud of.
The vinyl release of this single is presented as a double A side as both sides are phenomenal, with the remix bringing a NYC disco mix, designed purely for dancefloors with thumping bass, chic style guitars and soaring strings, think Studio 54 and the heady crossover soul of Philly meeting the early disco of New York.
Early plays by several funk and soul radio stations (Totally Wired Radio and FACE radio) has attracted interest from DJs keen to feedback with so many positive vibes and offers to collaborate on future songs.
Who Are Lost In Rio:
The band herald from the Highlands of Scotland. Inverness provides the base for a collection of musicians that have made their home here, whether they originated from Manchester, Melbourne, Malaysia or indeed the Highlands! The band has taken the funk and soul sound from their former incarnation, The Leonard Jones Potential (LJP) who were BBC6 Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show favourites with whom they undertook several live interviews on the show with Craig and also a popular live session as well as a number of joint live dates at Kendal Calling Festival, Inverness and Aberdeen. The guys were also asked to undertake some prestigious live work with world renowned DJ Carl Cox, on the bill at his personal request and alongside other acts such as Brand New Heavies, Danny Rampling, Gilles Peterson and of course, Carl himself.
The songwriting team behind all this - Anthony, Andy, Neil and Ruairi quickly set up Lost in Rio upon the demise of The LJP and began collaborating with a number of singers and a rapper (MC Butterscotch). They developed their sound into a smaller, tighter, groove based soul vibe.
From 2017 the grouped honed their sound with a number of live appearances across the Highlands including festivals and supporting acts such as Smoove and Turrell. Utilising guitars, bass, drums, Hammond and percussion, the guys set about leaning on key influences - Acid Jazz Corduroy and Brand New Heavies, dynamite disco guys Chic, Northern Soul, rare soul and a whole plethora of funky hip hop acts - The Allergies, The Herbaliser and Tribe called Quest to write a lot of new tunes. Latin influence comes to the fore in much of the groups new sound, particularly highlighting the impressive skills of Aussie percussionist Andy Pearce.
Live, the band have a good reputation and have been much sought after by promoters. Audiences have loved the tight rhythmic groove that these guys produce, meaning gigs are full of dancing and long encores. Recently the guys have been concentrating on driving up the already high standard of songwriting and production. This hard working band has plenty of material they are eager to share with those ears who are partial to quality funk, soul and pop and are looking for the right partners to work with and spread the message. Future releases will seek to exploit the wordsmith alacrity of MC Butterscotch who as well as Lost in Rio, also features as part of Scottish award winning hip hop act, Spring Break.
MD Records specialise in Unreleased soul and funk on its Yellow Series, contemporary soul and funk artists on the Gold Series, re-issue soul and funk on the Black Series and Missouri Soul and Blues via its Blue Lotus UK imprint.
