Hear&Now

Alba Sol 2x12"

2x12inchC56LP016
Claremont 56
07.05.2020

Hear & Now’s 2018 debut album Aurora Baleare was undoubtedly one of the most magical full-length excursions to appear on Claremont 56 to date; a drowsy, mood-enhancing masterpiece full to bursting with tactile grooves, blissful guitar motifs, dreamy aural textures and seductive, slow-burn melodies. The culmination of two years of work by longtime friends Ricky L and Marco Radicioni – a pair of experienced deep house producers whose solo careers stretch back to the 1990s – the album was as finely crafted as it was musically stunning.

Two years on, the pair return to Claremont 56 with the hotly anticipated follow-up, Alba Sol, a similarly seductive and sun-kissed set that is every bit as beguiling as its lauded predecessor. Once again built around the pair’s trademark blend of colourful synthesizer melodies, ear-catching improvised guitar motifs, soft-touch grooves, enveloping chords and fireside-warm bass, the set’s eight tracks are vivid, vibrant and as memorable as watching the sun rise over the Mediterranean or Adriatic seas. This time round, listeners can expect a few more nods towards the kind of glassy-eyed ‘dream house’ that was once one of Italian dance music’s greatest exports – think Don Carlos, Sueno Latino, Keytronics Ensemble etc. – and synthesizer-heavy 1980s new age ambience, though the duo’s trademark sonic template is evident throughout.

These influences can clearly be heard on “Larus”, where jangling piano riffs, mid-80s new age synths and cascading David Gilmour style guitar solos rise above thickset chords and sparse beats, the eyes-closed, arpeggio-driven goodness of “Acqua Tronica” – which also features some of Marco’s funkiest guitar playing to date – and the head-nodding haziness of “Danza Delle Onde”. They’re there, too, within the mid-tempo rush of “Litorale”, an emotive and life-affirming mixture of metronomic beats, fluid piano solos, retro-futurist synths, locked-in bass and pads so sumptuous you almost want to reach out and grab them. While the subtle evolution of the duo’s sound is evident throughout, Alba Sol also contains a swathe of tracks that echo the slow-motion hedonism of their earlier work. Closing cut “Pioggia Sil Mare”, for example, is a beguiling and brilliant foray into kaleidoscopic ambient house territory rich in in slowly unfurling musical motifs, while “Polvese” chugs along on waves of stretched-out electric guitar notes, echoing percussion hits and the sort of stoned bass that was such a feature of Aurora Baleare.

Then there’s the album-opening title track, a gloriously epic, joyously blissful number that first wowed listeners on the recent Claremont Editions One compilation and already feels like a downtempo classic. It brilliantly sets the tone for a sophomore set that’s arguably even more wonderful than its stunning predecessor.

Galathea - Samba de Sausalito

The debut album by the Italian Massimo Napoli aka Galathea received excellent critical acclaim and demonstrated how the artist was able to create an interesting and balanced blend of musical genres with an Afro / Tropical electronic atmosphere. “Samba de Sausalito” is a song composed by the Nicaraguan percussionist Chose “Chepito” Areas, famous all over the world thanks to the version of the guitarist Carlos Santana published in 1973 on the album Welcome.

This new single released on Space Echo Records contains two particular versions. The first, proposed by Galathea, maintains the typical carioca colors of the original version with the addition of hypnotic and futuristic sounds, making it a perfect modern dancefloor anthem.

The second consists of a rework of the first version, by The Invisible Session – further percussive elements are added to the already full-bodied mix, embellished with an exclusive live drum solo in the studio – between samba, afro and jazz-rock, for a explosive result that will appeal to lovers and DJs.

Arriving 6 years after the release of his breakout EP, El Búho returns to Wonderwheel with a very special Deluxe Version of said Cenotes EP including 3 previously unreleased tracks: "Manana Tepotzlan (feat. Gotopo) Vocal Version," "Tecolotin (Chancha Via Circuito Remix)," and "Tecolotin (Dub Version)." The EP is also set to be pressed to vinyl for the first time with a special splatter 12" invoking the cover art.

"Cenotes" was originally released in 2015 to widespread fan acclaim, firmly planting El Búho in the upper echelons of the Latin Electronic pantheon. Recorded in Mexico City after relocating from Amsterdam, "Cenotes" marries his influence of Dub, IDM and Electronic vibes with the rhythms, traditions and melodies of Latin American & Andean folk and the organic sound of waterfalls, birdsongs and crackling leaves, resulting in a dreamy, deep, melodic journey that entrances as much through headphones as it does on the dancefloor. Having studied Latin American Studies in Glasgow, El Búho (aka Robin Perkins) spent time living, studying and working in Argentina and travelling throughout the continent. Alongside his music, El Búho is also an environmental activist, having worked for over eight years at Greenpeace, being a member of DJs For Climate Action and coordinating the non-profit project "A Guide to the Birdsong" a series of albums that raise funds and awareness for endangered bird species through electronic music.

Mujer brings an energetic, late-night feel before All Day Everyday arrives as an out-and-out club number. Gritty basslines merge with echoing vocal tones, whilst Mantra transports us thanks to Saharan-like whispers and tribal-flecked drum patterns.

His productions have landed on established labels such as Nervous Records, Robsoul Recordings and Body Parts, getting support from leading tastemakers including Marco Carola, Ricardo Villalobos and The Martinez Brothers to name a few.

DAVID WALTERS - NOCTURNE REMIXES

Four months on from the release of David Walters’ hit Nocturne album, the Marseille singer/songwriter’s penchant for creative re-invention is on full display on this new EP that shows off the creative dexterity of DJs and producers from Europe and the Caribbean.

Featuring a stable of DJs and producers from France (Folamour, Synapson, Patchworks/Voilaaa); Germany (Henrik Schwarz); Portugal (Batida); the Netherlands (Pushin wood) and Guadeloupe (Déni-Shain, Mister Francky; Woodini) the EP enacts Walters’s resolutely international and collaborative artistic vision.

Paris-born DJ/composer Walters has long encouraged others to re-interpret his work. Indeed, one might say it’s a defining characteristic of his oeuvre, so much so that earlier albums have on occasion included differing versions of his songs on the same release.

Take the now talismanic Walters’s song, “Mama.” The tribute to Walters’s grandmother and the resilience and wisdom of all Afro-Caribbean women was the first single on Walters’s 2020 LP, Soleil Kréyol; then re-appeared on the Nocturne release one year later (after providing the foundations for an EP of mixes by longstanding musical confrère Patchworks in 2019).

Here, Henrik Schwarz’s take on “Mama” – the German DJ best known for his mixes of Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas - introduces a distinctive keys motif, shifting the scene to dancefloors (far removed from the song’s original lilting, lyrical vibe).
If there’s a through line for the new remixes collection it’s the EP’s delicious groove. See, French producer duo Synapson’s version of “Baby Go” that’s sustained by disco dreaminess, strings for enhanced effect, playing around with momentum. Or the gorgeous Folamour-helmed “Sam Cook Di” sustained by the intricate Romantic sensibility of 90s Parisian House.

The inclusion of Folamour – the Lyon-based DJ/producer charged with carrying the torch of French electronica, check out his Mix Mag cover from April this year – in the EP line-up is quite a coup.
Other highlights are the EP’s twin re-invention of the song, “Papa Kossa” – a homage to the Cameroonian saxophonist/singer Manu Dibango, dubbed “Papa Groove” who passed away in March, 2020 – by Lisbon’s Batida and also DJ team, Déni-Shain and Mister Francky, who are currently based at the legendary Debs studio at Point-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe.
Batida (aka Pedro Coquenão) a DJ, born in Angola; raised in the Portuguese capital’s suburbs, whose music has been lauded by BBC6’s Gilles Peterson offers a particularly captivating remix of the song written for one of the giants of West African music.

While the first “Papa Kossa” allowed for the ensemble of master musicians - Malian master kora player, Ballaké Sissoko, French cellist Vincent Segal and percussionist Roger Raspail - to shine, the Batida remix strips the music back, transforming the piece into a delicate bird-like structure deep on anticipation. The Déni-Shain and Mister Francky mix, meanwhile, emphasises the tune’s buoyant essence.

Another immediate classic is the Woodini remix of “Sa En Yé” that breaks the musical elements down to a kind of deep super structure, starting with Walters’s voice – in close – to then add all the other parts, jangly piano, descending chords and percussion.

The recording of the Nocturne album – released in February 2021 – epitomised the notion of “unplugged” - 100 % live, no over-dubs or re-recordings, the fact that the musicians were performing “without headphones” (no safety net) led to the creation of a work of “rare sincerity” as Heavenly Sweetness label owner, Franck Descollonges recalled

The Nocturne remixes release maintains Walters’s essential spirit of collaboration; his desire to create music that is a bridge between places and people. But whereas, the first Nocturne album was deeply involved and meditative – a master class of musicians whose careers stretch back four decades or more – Walters’s remixes EP is all about contrasting voices and visions, spanning the globe.

After years of friendship and sharing music together, they started exploring what happens when different musical backgrounds join forces. The group is heavily inspired by traditional Brazilian rhythms, instruments and sounds from nature, infused with some dusty synthesisers and a quest for exploring the unknown.

ROSIE FROM THE BLOCK - LOVE POTIONS FOR BLOCK PARTIES EP

Whilst her Roselien moniker has been rushing through the London jazz, soul and rnb scene by various live shows downtown and her monthly "La Vie En Rose" radio show on Totally Wired Radio in the east side of town, her newest project Rosie From The Block is coming out of the blue on your favourite cities' label with refreshing but sharp broken beats, soulful and gospel like vocals along with a strong message and a soft touch of herself.

She already caught attention and support from big names worldwide such as Lefto, Erica McKoy and Reggie Watts, a remix done by Broken Beat's leading artist Kaidi Tatham and done support shows for Gregory Porter, Meshel Ndegeocello, The Jones Girls, Bilal and Gabriel Garzon Montano, Roselien is at least Belgium's hardest working girl within her niche.

As Roselien, her vocals were always the leading factor in her music, but Rosie From The Block shows her tougher side within by giving the full attention to her instrumentals and adding lyrics in function of her jams.

The lush and mellow floater she gave the name “you are loved” is a confirmational necessity for anyone in need. Strong drum accompany her carefully chosen chords down a slide of endorphins.

The story she's telling with “Let me be” is a strong and empowered message what every woman has experienced on the streets: namely harassment in public places and she's putting a belt below any girl's- or woman's heart.

“No matter what” denies and smacks away any form of doubt with bright and joyful piano chords along her personal style of drums, in order to land her plane of butterflies on the vice city airport, ready for the next flight.

All compositions and lyrics are a 100% made by herself within a range of less than 3 weeks. A no brainer for anyone listening to these tracks from the toughest girl from the block.

AFRIQUOI - TIME IS A GIFT WHICH WE SHARE ALL THE TIME

Afriquoi are back with their Time is a Gift Which We Share All the Time EP. Taken from a line from the track “Ndeko Solo”, the title is a reminder of the blessedness of being alive and the intimate connection of all things. This is the first EVER Afriquoi release where the whole band has gone into the studio to record a full live-band sound, playing together at Octagon Studios, putting down songs that were written collaboratively and honed over years on live stages. It was recorded with the assistance of Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa) to help capture the right live sound. This EP showcases the live band sound that has thrilled audiences on festival stages from
Glastonbury West Holts to WOMAD to Dimensions Festival: Jally Kebba Susso’s exquisite kora playing, Fiston Lusambo’s intricate Congolese guitar, uplifting vocals from Andre Espeut, crisp percussion from André Marmot, tasteful chords from Nico Bentley and beats from Oli Cole. More than any of Afriquoi’s previous releases, this EP allows each member’s individual sound and talent to shine. Guitarist Fiston Lusambo explains: “we wanted to create a style of music which does not exist yet by combining Congolese guitar, Gambian kora, African Djembe and mixing them with European music… this EP is a result of our work where each of us has put his talent in it, we think we have now something which is what we wanted”. Parisian label Mawimbi are the perfect match for the band, having established themselves as champions of afro-tinged electronic music, through their long-running nights in Paris, their DJ sets,
their label releases and their own productions and remixes for the likes of Oumou Sangaré, Femi Kuti, Cerrone & more.

DJ Lycox - Lycoxera

Lycoxera

12inchP037
Príncipe
04.02.2022

Parisian Kuduro ambassador DJ Lycox kicks the club back to action with six killer, syncopated workouts on the indomitable Príncipe, swaggering between sultry and banging Afrohouse variations

As part of Tia Maria Produções and with his solo shots, DJ Lycox has been a vital player on Lisbon’s finest label since 2014. The ‘Lycoxera’ session leads on from the beatdown kizomba tempo of his ‘Kizas do Ly’ (2020) EP with a return to the quicker meter of his sought-after debut album ’Sonhos & Pesadelos’ (2017), giving the club what it needs as feet return to the ‘floor in late 2021 to dance their worries away.

Cherry-picked by the label from Lycox’s prolific studio output, the EP’s six tracks surely represent a clarion call to the rave, but finely balance a sense of urgency with more tentative, melancholic pathos that smartly reads the room. From its nervy but insistent opening vocal declaration of back to business on the ‘Eu Mbora Dou Bué Show’, thru the breezy lilt of his keys and quizzical top lines in ‘Momentos Unicos’ Lycox coaxes rather than demands, with deeply persuasive results.

The intricate beat science of ‘Rapaz Sinistro’ is bound to snag bodies in its swingeing syncopation of log drums and plucked bass motifs echoing Amapiano styles, while the haughty jack of ’Southside’ follows with immersive soundsphere of water sounds, trumpeting elephants and eagle squawks that transport the city to a jungle mindset. ‘Yoga’ is a standout 3 minutes of deep Afrohouse pressure, eazing tensely infectious drums with coolly poised chords, and ‘Wildin’ is the most concentrated, deeply technoid example of DJ Lycox’s urgent but furtive appeal on what is set to be a definitive solo EP.

DJ Amir - Street Rap Remix / Salsa Remix

Hot on the heels of their landmark remix of ‘Lost My Love’ by Kenny Cox, DJ Amir and Re.decay return to BBE Music with a rework of Maulawi’s ‘Street Rap’, plus a new version of Fito Foster’s ‘Salsa’ by DJ Dez (aka Andrés) featuring Amp Fiddler. Originally issued as the opening track on Maulawi’s self-titled 1974 album by Detroit’s Strata Records, ‘Street Rap’ is a slept-on jazz/funk classic. As part of his role as curator and archivist of the Strata catalogue, DJ Amir discovered the original stems for the track and was happy to discover they had survived the years well. “I thought we could really do something different with this song” say Amir. “Like making it more of a mid-tempo ‘four to the floor’ groover. Also, I wanted us to play with the original vocals a bit for the updated version. This is by far our favourite remix!” Previously serving as DJ for Slum Village and releasing on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music simply as Andrés, DJ Dez Andrez is part of the fabric of Detroit’s unique and eclectic music scene. But few people know that Dez’s father is Cuban music hero Humberto “Nengue” Hernandez, a highly respected percussionist and vocalist who starred in the 1988 motion picture ‘Salsa’. “So I reached out to Dez because I knew his father sang and played on the Fito Foster song “Salsa’” says Amir. “I have had the stems of the song since the beginning of my license deal with Strata. I thought it would be a great homage to have Dez remix his father’s music. Plus, Dez was definitely excited to do so!” For his remix, Dez called upon Detroit legend Amp Fiddler to play additional keys and piano on the remix, while Dez also added additional percussion to compliment his father’s, like a time-travelling jam session going back almost 50 years. Staying true to his Cuban roots, Dez’s remix brings a contemporary twist to this timeless track.

MARCOS VALLE - S/T

Marcos Valle

S/T

12inchVAMPI215
Vampisoul
26.04.2021

CLASSIC LP, featuring the Brazil boogie slammer, Estrelar. TIP!

"Marcos Valle is one of the few artists you cannot miss if you have the slightest interest in Brazilian music. Whether your taste is focused on bossa jazz, samba, psych folk or soul, Valle has surely recorded a great album for you. By the late 60s he had already put out enough quality records to secure a place within the top Brazilian songwriters of all time, but his career luckily did not stop there and he continued releasing amazing music over the following decades until this day. He settled in Los Angeles in the mid-70s, tired of living under Brazil’s military dictatorship, and started to collaborate with such talented artists as Leon Ware or Chicago.

This self-titled LP from 1983 is the follow-up to the great “Vontade de rever você” (1981) and his second album after moving back to Brazil. It shows all the music influences received during his US years, especially boogie, soul and funk, featuring stellar collaborators: Lincoln Olivetti & Robson Jorge on keyboards and guitar and Leon Ware on backing vocals.

The opening track, the Brazilian boogie anthem ‘Estrelar’, is Marcos Valle’s biggest hit from the 80s and one of the most celebrated songs in his entire career, making clear that what he accomplished while in LA would now make its way into Brazil. ‘Estrelar’ is devoted to workout exercises under the sun and Valle pictures a beach lifestyle and summertime vibe across the entire album that pretty much describes his surfing days in Southern California.

A couple of early Valle’s classic songs, ‘Samba De Verao’ and ‘Viola Enluarada’, are updated here to sit nicely next to soaring disco tracks, ‘Para Os Filhos De Abraao’, killer vocal boogie numbers, ‘Dia D’, and blissing instrumentals, ‘Naturalmente’. And the list goes on and on over a well-balanced tracklist that satisfies both the listening pleasure and the dancefloor needs.

This is an essential album for lovers of 80s cool sounds and the work of Leon Ware, who is the co-writer of three songs in the LP, including the massive ‘Estrelar’ that was first drafted when both artists were working together in the States and then recorded again when Valle returned to Brazil. "

MERIDIAN BROTHERS - PAZ EN LA TERRA

Paz en La Tierra is a result of a search by the Meridian Brothers & Conjunto Media Luna of the heart of something that can be called a 'power format' of Colombian Caribbean music; Accordion , Guacharaca, Caja, Congas, Electric bass, and vocals.

Departing from this idea, and casually working with the music of a documentary on the famous singer Diomedes Diaz, Iván Medellín (accordionist of Conjunto media luna), and Eblis Álvarez from the Meridian Brothers, embarked on a new work building a sound exclusively on the traditional format, searching for several spaces between the lines in the universe of accordion in Colombian music.

The duo departed from the basic: the line of vallenato, the most famous in the country but not the only one, the line of sabanero music more of the lands of Sucre and Córdoba inclined towards cumbia, bullerengue, son vallenato among other airs fed the group's ideas. The Barranquilla center deserves a separate mention, due to its cosmopolitan approach, using all kinds of influences, from the Caribbean islands to ancient rhythms or even modern rock and funk, also used as an inspiration for this record.

In the process, new ways of melody appeared and new ways of expression emerged. Although the rhythms used in the record are rooted in the traditional, the duo glitched those rhythms turning them into new directions in the style, using exclusively the past references to transmute the sound into something that looks inside a parallel future.

Using several theatrical situations, alterations in musical structures, and slight deformations of the traditional harmony (a tonal center and its dominant) the result of "Paz en la Tierra" is enigmatic and charming, and at the same time directed towards the dance floor keeping the past alive and flourishing the essence of the tradition.

DELROY EDWARDS - SLAP HAPPY LP

SLAP HAPPY LP

L.I.E.S.
27.02.2020

Delroy Edwards keeps the old school fire burning, returning to L.I.E.S. with a new 8 track lp titled "Slap Happy". Once again this is back to basics, no punches pulled Chicago House worship, hitting all ends of the dance specturm. Sparse beat tracks, 80s synth stabs, 727 latin percussion...the elements are all there and put together in perfect form...many try but few can execute the vintage sound like this. What may even be Edward's most mature release, it comes in a time when the roots of dance music have been forgotten to the grotesque trends of the day. This is a reminder of why we were drawn to this music in the first place and what it can sound like.

SOUNDWAY RECORDS
26.11.2019

FUTURE AFRO-LATIN JAZZ HOUSE FROM MASTER PERCUSSIONIST, MULTI-INSTRUMENTALIST AND COMPOSER GABRIELE POSO.

A true multi-instrumentalist, Gabriele Poso found a particular affinity for percussion at a young age, studying in Puerto Rico and Cuba. His latest album ‘Batik’, to be released on Soundway Records, is once again entirely selfproduced and features guest vocalists Nailah Porter, Nina Rodriguez, Quetzal Guerrero & Sofia Rollo.
Following a long-term collaborative partnership with Osunlade / Yoruba Records, as well as albums on BBE and Agogo Records, Gabriele Poso has garnered acclaim from reviewers and selectors including Gilles Peterson. On ‘Batik’, Poso further develops and matures his sound - exploring his extensive roots in Afro-Cuban percussion, while delving into the realms of jazz and soulful house. Much of the album features Poso on not only vocals but many of the instruments - including percussion, guitar and kalimba. With mixing by renowned Spanish DJ and producer Kiko Navarro, the lead single “Africa Linda” is an up tempo live take on Latin house, featuring American-born soul singer Quetzal Guerrero on vocals.

FLAMINGO PIER - FLAMINGO PIER

New Zealand collective Flamingo Pier's debut album - serving up euphoric disco hooks, classic house choruses and forays into Latin funk, balearic and psychedelia

Auckland. Musicians from the tightly knit local scene swung through to contribute to the recording, including fellow Soundway act Julien Dyne on drums, as well as saxophonist Nathan Haines.

The self-titled album draws from the band’s wide-ranging taste, as well as what they’ve been playing in order to keep spirits up. Channelling classic emotive house, to disco, Afro and jazz funk on their debut album, Flamingo Pier cite a wide range of musical influences such as Khruangbin, Roisin Murphy, Peven Everett, house legends Masters at Work and Brazilian artist Tim Maia. This translates into an uplifting but nostalgic current running throughout the album - reflecting on last chances, soul-searching and longing for the carefree days of the dance floor.

The Busy Twist, Ze Da Lua, Africa Ritmo, Levis Vercky's, Os Kiezos - The Busy Twist - London Luanda Remix Series

From St Lucia to Jamaica to Ghana to Colombia, London born duo The Busy Twist have travelled the globe to create their dance floor killing productions.

Their debut EP 'Friday Night' combines these cultures, respectfully crossing sound boundaries and joining the dots between Afro House, Kuduro, Latin and Uk Bass.

The London Luanda Remix Series is the result of digging into 1970's popular music in Angola. Acclaimed by BBC radio host Annie Mac, and supported by the likes of Jillionaire, Buraka Som Sistema or Toddla T, some of these remixes are already being played throughout clubs and parties all over the world, but were never officially released.

Courtesy of Analog Africa, all original tracks were taken from the “Angola Soundtrack” compilation series. Includes 2 that have never been aired and one is a vinyl exclusive.

The release of these classic tribal reworks was eventually made possible thanks to the group’s recent trips to Colombia, where they worked alongside Systema Solar, Ghetto Kumbé, Nidia Gongora and Palenque Records, for an impressive variety of original productions, collaborations and remixes.

In alliance with Colombia-based label Galletas Calientes Records, one of these fruitful encounters, the London Luanda Remix Series was finally materialised.

Various - Moon Faze Sun Gaze Iii EP

Multi Culti's astrological archive expands into vinyl-phase #2 with deep lunar trips and solar worship from Nicola Cruz, Moscoman, Zongamin, Manfredas, Umoja and Crowdpleaser feat Mah'Mood.

Fly with us, friends - we have places to go, faces to see, sounds to collect and feelings to make.

One of the key emerging artists out of South America in recent years, NICOLA CRUZ is fresh off his debut album on ZZK and primed to take off with his folklorically dope live set. 'Pagano'might be his most dance-floor friendly track to date, sounding like it came straight out of Compass Point studios carrying the smell of good ganja.

Next up is Disco Halal's MOSCOMAN, kicking it in a latino style for a change, flexing his skills into different lingual terrain, masterfully mixing things up in his inimitably unconventional style.

ZONGAMIN is back - The madly talented Japanese cowboy-funk maestro throws down a six string shoot-em-up serenade for talented lovers in cults of the future, everywhere.
MANFREDAS - Our favourite wildman-Lithuanian lights a lethal stick of incense on Glasswalk, a musical memoir of riding a crack pipe out of an opium den in the slums of Mumbai. True story.
UMOJA's Umboweti is a cheerful jungle jaunt, sounding like Francis Bebey stripped and mixed for the club. Guaranteed smiles and vibe elevation.
The trip concludes with Swiss journeyman CROWDPLEASER teaming up with Egyptian homie Mah'mood for a majikal rendition of pre-Islamic poem Yasmin, featuring hauntingly beautiful vocals from Tunisian wedding singer Habib.

EDUARDO DARNAUCHANS - NIEBLAS Y NEBLINAS

With traces of art-folk, rock, chanson française, Uruguayan roots and “poète maudit” aura, Eduardo Darnauchans created a unique artistic universe. Nieblas y neblinas released in 1985, was the singer-songwriter most rock-oriented work and showed a superlative moment in his career.

The song "De los relojeros" from this album was included in the acclaimed compilation America Invertida, an essential collection of rare Uruguayan music from the eighties.

Ricardo Eddy Martinez - Expreso Ritmico

Gilles Peterson says: "If a Cuban record had come out on Sleeping Bag Records in 1982, I think it would've sounded a bit like this. It's an eccentric middle ground between Latin-styled pop and disco".

Reissued from the Spanish version of this awesome Cuban records with a unique picture cover. Probably one of the best 70's Areito releases, for sure ahead of his times. The entire record minus two tracks of 10 total are all upbeat with afro-latin breaks, dope choral vocal arrangements and chunky bass and conga lines, but don t sleep, the lower bpm songs are great mellow gems. Gilles Peterson says: "If a Cuban record had come out on Sleeping Bag Records in 1982, I think it would ve sounded a bit like this. It s an eccentric middle ground between Latin-styled pop and disco".
