The minds behind somethinksounds and 2020 Vision have linked up to launch 2020 Midnight Visions, a new, forward-thinking dance imprint with a strong visual focus. The imprint's inaugural release will come from Brixton native Ph0t0machine on May 28, the On U EP. With A&R being handled by Kazim Kazim Kazim of garage aficionados somethinksounds, 2020 Midnight Visions will look to bring forward "a diverse pool of artists at the forefront of electronic music." The label's artwork and creative direction will also feature an integrated visual aspect by Simon Wellbellove, and additional releases have already been lined up for 2012 from Presk, Doc Daneeka, and Ossie.

One year after the first excursion into his haunting world of sonic spaces on the Analog Amputations EP, machine wizard CVBox strikes back on Uncanny Valley with the follow up "Trawler Crossing". And from start to finish this EP is a journey between Techno and Ambient full of unheard noises and grasping rhythms. In the title track the beat rides on spooky pads that flow down like lava from a volcano. The more the whipping drums come into play, the more captivating the atmosphere evolves. "Echo Place (Canyon Version)" is CVBox in pure beauty. Starting with quirky synth-sounds that seem to talk to the listener, a dubby bass driven groove takes over to unfold an adventurous Techno track in all its glory. On the flipside "Leo on LFO (Accordion Partition)" takes its time to build up into an epic Electro track that is distinguished by the acidic synth-bass and outshining strings. The collaboration with his musical soul mate Micha Freier marks the end point of the EP. "Remind 20 : 3" is a dreamy slow burner that seductively puts its arms around you after all. Taking ground across the clubs and sound systems
of the UK, bass-duo Mak & Pasteman have
garnered serious respect throughout club land.
Releasing across labels including Shifting Peaks,
Senseless Records & Sounds of Sumo, as well as
extensive radio-play from the likes of Mary Anne
Hobbs, Redlight, B traits, Toddla Tand Rob Da
Bank, they have laid down the foundations for their
own future sound.
Alongside their Juno chart-topping 2012 EP Do The
Same, it's their deft edits and reworks of artists such
as Larry Heard and Tyga that sets their reputations
apart...which leads nicely onto the next in their
series of bootlegs. Reworking man of the moment
Kendrick Lamar, and the late great Whitney
Houston under their M.A.P Alias, these edits are
enough to send any dancefloor into a frenzy. The
Kendrick Lamar edit touches on the more techno-
driven side of the UK scene, whilst the Whitney
Houston gives a nod to the UK garage scene circa
2000 with low slung bass stabs and rolling
percussion.

Like many of music's most gifted, Andrea Tirone, the 27-year-old Italian songwriter and producer behind Mind Enterprises, is a perennial outsider. Forming a post-punk band in his teens, he soon started to crave the UK's more vibrant music scene. Two years ago he decided to leave his family and friends in Italy; London, for Tirone, signified freedom, and a place where you could be surrounded by other oddballs and music obsessives, possibly even make a career out of it too. Once arriving to London, he armed himself with a laptop full of songs and made a list of 100 labels he wanted to send his music to. Luckily, one of the most exciting independent labels in the city, Double Denim Records, replied before he'd even got to ten. At the hazy end of last August, a taster single was released entitled 'Summer War'. It was soon after this that Because Music came on board. A perfect fit for Mind Enterprises, his eccentric and intricate recordings would be developed by the label who housed the talents of acts like Metronomy, Django Django - an ideal home for an artist who wants to experiment and mould their own genre. Now living in London and recording his debut, the change in location hasn't had much affect on his sound, mainly because Tirone works in darkness; curtains closed and laptop on, 'I can't work in light. You focus more on the sound in the dark.' As a result of the dream-like state his mind inhabits, his lyrics are more like a mantra, looping and weaving in and out of heavy beats and samples. It's this passionate nature which makes Mind Enterprises' soundscape so brash, beautiful, intuitive and full of imagination, and perhaps the reason he'll never quite fit in to any scene or category. Perhaps the reason why he'll succeed!

Thunderbird Gerard spitted it perfectly, adding his twist and took this track to another dimension. While everybody is going back to disco (I send my love to Breakbot), I still feel the need for something darker and harder. Gesaffelstein & The Hacker's protégé MAELSTROM was #1 on the list as my older brother forced me to like Front 242 when I was 14. MAELSTROM delivered the perfect remix, for those who know Baalsaal in Hamburg or Hotel Shangai in Essen let's pretend it's 3am and dance. When PARRIS MITCHELL emailed me it made my day. Following the Daft Punk adventure from Chicago, he knew what's up. For those who don't remember, PARRIS is responsible for the Dance Mania classic 'Ghetto Shout Out!' who later influenced the Daft's 'Teachers". Feeling the Dance Mania and Kraftwerk vibes in his rework took me back to the time when we were record shopping. Yes... this record is full of nostalgia. 'THIS SONG' can be seen as the dark side of the Rainbow man. But having fun with my Sidstation, getting some more tattoos, listening to Kenny Dope and asking my Australian mate Andrew Woodhead to sing was fun. Yes, sad songs make me happy. XAVIER DE ROSNAY (half of Justice, for the ones from Mars) told me this track should have been more 'minimal". He spent a couple of nights in his studio jamming and sent me this one wit

Hot on the heels of volume 2 CE returns with the 3rd edition of the World Electronix series. This time with another sizzling line up of global electro talent. With the first 2 EP's aimed at the darker, moody side of the genre this EP ventures into lighter, deeper territories with exclusive tracks from J.T.C, Gosub, Sync 24 & DeFeKT and Versalife. Kicking off preceedings is Michigan native and all round production wizard Tadd Mulinix aka J.T.C (Nation, Ghostly, Creme). Whatever genre Tadd lends his hand to something special arises and for CE he turns in a great Drexcyian insired track with dreamy pads and pulsating chords! Keeping things on the U.S side is Miami resident and Isophlux founder Shad T Scott aka Gosub. An electro stalwart for over 10 years Shad has released on labels including Frustrated Funk, Solar One, Transient Force and Abstract Forms. For this EP he delivers a signature style electro funk laden groove for the mind and floor. The B side is headed up with a new collaboration between CE label head Sync 24 and Dublin based electro/techno producer DeFeKT. Matt Flanagan has been making waves in the electro scene for the last few years with great releases for Solar One Music, Combat Recordings and AC records to name a few. For his CE debut he and Sync 24 turn in a pure modular analogue groove reminiscent of the late 90's electro sound. Rounding off the EP is Dutch electro/techno heavy weight Boris Bunnik aka Versalife/Conforce. A real power house in modern electronic music Boris has been consistenty releasing on the hottest labels including Clone, Frustrated Funk, Delsin and Rush Hour. Appearing as Versalife on this EP he comes with pounding 808 kicks, slippery machine percussion, lush strings and bubbly acid! Strictly limited to 1 vinyl run with no repress!

Mike Paradinas has been a pioneer and a mainstay of the electronic music scene for over 20 years now and 'Chewed Corners' is his first proper solo album since 2007. As the boss of electronic label Planet Mu, he's always been at the forefront of innovations and has released music by some of the most celebrated modern electronic artists around, from Benga, Kuedo and Machinedrum to Luke Vibert, Venetian Snares and FaltyDL to name just a few. Mike started both his career and µ-Ziq with the album 'Tango N'Vectif' back in 1993 which elevated him to the top of the league of British electronica producers alongside Black Dog and Aphex Twin. He has also been one of the few people to collaborate with Aphex Twin on the album 'Mike & Rich' and has released albums on Virgin, Astralwerks, Warp and Rephlex before releasing music on his own label Planet Mu. The album was written in the same period as Mike's recent Heterotic project (a collaboration with his wife Lara Rix-Martin and Warp's singer/songwriter Gravenhurst) while he was home alone. Mike says he intended the compositions 'to evoke drama and emotion' and while the music was made with no conscious influences, after listening back Mike says Kuedo, Aphex Twin, Chicago Footwork, Art of Noise, Orbital, Japan and Rustie must all have had an effect. While his last album, 2007's 'Duntisbourne Abbots Soulmate Devastation Technique', was at times as harrowing and miserable as its title suggests, 'Chewed Corners' is almost the polar opposite, relaxed, self-possessed, and a pleasure to listen to. The innovation is subtle and inviting and it exudes happiness. It also foregrounds probably one of Mike's most important characteristics - something that has always shone through his far-reaching experimentation and kept it sounding both personal and accessible - his knack for great melody and lush arrangements. 'Chewed Corners' sidesteps affiliations to any genre; instead it's a suite of 14 retro-futurist tracks, created with a lush, analogue sounding palette. It's a gentle ride which, even when it nods to aggressive music like footwork (on the track 'Tickly Flanks') still manages to find a way to breathe light and joy into the framework. For every woozy moment there's a strong melody that hooks the strangeness in. The seasick chords in 'Wipe' are held together by a building chorus and muscular drum patterns, 'Hug's slow, strange 808 drum patterns and choral synths are underpinned by a lush, warm fretless bass sound. 'Smooch' has meditative, wafting electronics with chords and rhythm that intersect with 80's funk. 'Christ Dust' uses synths that wouldn't have been out of place on the 'Equalizer' soundtrack, but with the circadian-like clicking of high hats and swirling synths adding a distinctively otherworldly feel to the track. It's classic µ-Ziq, which has taken stock and allowed the best parts of his abilities to shine through.
