No Smoke - International Smoke Signals

Presenting the long sought after, groundbreaking and classic 1990 UK long-player finally remastered and reissued for 2018. London's Warriors Dance label was a unique operation and a pioneering London label during the late 80's acid house phenomena. Home to an assortment of DJs, MCs and soundmen, they went on to make their own original and indelible mark on the rave scene from the infamous 'Addis Ababa' studio on Harrow Road on the North-West side of the city.

A former reggae and soul studio that was instrumental to the output of influential artists like Soul II Soul and more, a steady diet of reggae, bass, hip-hop, house and techno kept their edgy, and die hard UK sound and style right at the cutting edge of the dance music underground across the globe with the top DJs and producers of the day celebrating the label.

The studio, helmed by label owner Tony 'Addis', acted as an incubator for artists whose names would go down in the history books - No Smoke, Bang The Party, The Addis Posse, Melancholy Man, Hollywood Beyond, The Housemaids and more all featured heavily on the label and contributed to its legendary output. The attitude and approach to the music was utterly and unapologetically a London thing, with heavy African and Caribbean influences also drawing on the sounds emanating from Chicago, Detroit and further afield.

Years later, and with the advent of the internet, Discogs, Youtube and any other digital platform you'd care to mention, Warriors Dance continues to be discovered and rediscovered again by curious diggers and music heads with a thirst for heavyweight tracks to play in their DJ sets. This saw the WD mythology rise again, making their records much sought after by fans from all over the world.

When 'International Smoke Signal' landed in 1990 there was nothing else quite like it in the musical landscape, the perfect sonic example of the Warriors Dance ethos and style incorporating all of the influences and grooves that made the label's output so unique, a sound heavily inspired by the preceding period in London and the UK where hip-hop, soul, reggae, rare groove and acid house were played side by side in the warehouses and empty spaces of former industrial areas. Throughout the late 1980's these often drab and dangerous places were transformed by local DJ crews like Soul II Soul and Shake 'N' Fingerpop with more to offer those looking for an open-minded party scene new places to explore, in turn switching people on to broader styles of music.

It's all in here, the heavy breakbeat driven B-boy house flavour of the album version of the classic 'Koro Koro', the Manu Dibango featuring tribal acid groove of 'International Smoke Signal' to the percussive and ultra-deep stylings of 'Oh Yes (Freedom)' the LP encapsulate a time and place yet continue to capture the imagination today.

Timeless music. There's no doubt the No Smoke project is a direct influence on the deeper, tribal house sounds around today and pioneered the afro house sound alongside 'Yeke Yeke', 'Motherland' etc as the acid house phenomenon swept the world. 'Koro Koro' is the omnipresent anthem which was broken at London clubs like Confusion by Bang The Party's Kid Batchelor and RIP which went on to blow up in New York, and was then signed by Profile Records. Hugely sampled and still played to this day.

'International Smoke Signal' fuses the otherworldly science of dub and reggae with Bronx breakbeats, synth laden ambient house excursions and the heartbeat of mother Africa with the technoid thrum of the motor city effortlessly, all while maintaining its London roots and swagger. A true dance music masterpiece. This is the first time the LP has been remastered and reissued, spread across 2 heavy slabs of high quality vinyl for maximum sonic impact. Made in conjunction with the Warriors Dance family and Tony Addis.

Special thanks to Nicky Trax & Tony Addis. - Remastered by Optimum Mastering, Bristol UK. Proudly distributed by Above Board distribution. 2018.

6th Borough Project - Find Your Rhythm Remixed, Part One

6th Borough Project's 2017 standout LP 'Find Your Rhythm' get's the remix treatment from five in demand artists. On the A side Mathias Schober flips 'Someday' from a chuggy acid number into a brooding synth laden techno stomper, whilst Lay-Far switches the DnB flavours of 'Back Where It All Began' into a breakbeat tinged house roller. The final remix on the A side is taken by Afrobad, who creates a broken beat rhythmic stepper out of title track 'Find Your Rhyhtm'.

Flip it over and Jad & The take things deep with their remix of 'Release' creating a sun kissed, blissed out version of the original. Whilst Deep Space Orchestra take the closing slot of this Fifty Fathoms Deep remix package turning 'One Way Out' from a rave leaning bass track into a hard hitting, glitched out rhythmic weapon complete with killer drum programming and a touch of the UK funky to it.

Tech Startup
27.11.2018

Psychic Yes and Tech Startup founder Rafael fortuitously met on a Berlin dance floor in late 2017. A long period of digital correspondence followed between Berlin and Seattle, culminating in the inaugural release of the Seattle-based Tech Startup label: TS000001. The project, to be released on November 9th, is comprised of 5 tracks built up from initial recordings of percussion, trumpet, and synthesizers honed into drum-focused dance pieces in the melancholy Berlin winter of 2018. Split in function between the two sides, Side A features dancefloor-ready tracks with Side B containing introspective songs geared towards a home-listening environment.

Field recordings of Scottish stone slates mark the opening track Stone Sound, a tribal-leaning dancefloor cut highlighted by syncopated, pounding percussion and discreet melodies. Spacemaker features organic, sparse breakbeats cloaked in bright, hazey melodies. Delicated is a track that delights as a series of melodic characters move around one another in a foggy electronic atmosphere. Aldhini Theme emerges as the standout track on Side B commencing with undulating sequenced bloops and bleeps that slowly build into a hypnotic slow-burner that resolves on a melody.

The Golden Filter - Talk Talk Talk EP

The first release on The Golden Filter's brand new label, 4GN3S (pronounced 'Agnes') is The Golden Filter 'Talk Talk Talk', along with three remixes. The original version first appeared as Dixon's closing track at the beginning of the summer. The Golden Filter channeled the artists they grew up listening to in the 80s - Siouxsie, Human League, The Glove, Talk Talk, New Order, Xymox, Lene Lovich, and Cabaret Voltaire all wrapped up into one perfect analog dance pop song, but with it's heavy beat, it completely works on the dance floor as much as in the headphones. LA's Cooper Saver (DFA, Permanent Vacation, ESP Institute) provides the dance floor fire with his absolute banger of a remix. The very first play for this was by Avalon Emerson at Coachella '18, then it went on to get rinsed all summer by Ben UFO, A^me, Dixon, Roi Perez, Moxie, Hunee, Marvin & Guy, Job Jobse, Fort Romeau, B. Traits, Solomun, and more. It's pretty much been proven impossible to stay still when the breakbeats kick in! Fantastic Twins (Hippie Dance / Optimo Music), is the guise of Julienne Dessagne, originally from Paris and now based in Berlin. She provides a tripped out rework that forays into unexpected twists and turns, but still retains her trademark analog psychedelic dancefloor vibes. Kasper Bjørke (hfn, Eskimo, Correspondant) teams up with Colder (Output) for an epic take on Talk Talk Talk, following up their collaborative EP on Throne Of Blood. Minimal and hypnotic, dubbed out vocal snippets fly in and out of a one- note entrancing bassline in this strung out 10-plus minute remix.

Rhythm - Cascade

12inchISLE001
12th Isle
04.09.2018

"Recorded in St. Petersburg over the course of 2015, this first release on Glasgow based imprint 12th Isle is a collaborative effort between Dices & - (aka Flaty/Dada Ques), affiliates of the Udacha and Gost Zvuk record labels. Titled '' (Thoughtstream), the LP eschews trend in favour of meaningful sonic discovery, and in doing so offers as much to the adventurous DJ as it does the attentive home listener.

Side A encompasses ambient synth textures reminiscent of '70s-era library music, established upon rhythms that evoke turn of the century Detroit house. At once melancholic and playfully optimistic, the six tracks range from rhythmic experiments to sketch-like beatless vignettes. The flip side sets off in a slightly darker tone that is succeeded with pace and persistence in the drum patterns and winding arpeggiated bassline of Caleidoscope'. Alongside the heavily swung Hologram', these tracks are very club considerate, a function that in no way offsets the records assured narrative purpose.

Across both A and B the music maintains this singular intent, channelling aspects of early sequence-based electronics and vintage space rock around a diverse and playful compendium of rhythms.

Rings Around Saturn - Rings Around Saturn

For the first album on brokntoys, Rory McPike (Rings Around Saturn, Bleekman, 2200, Pickleman) puts the hammer down with a double pack of abstract and dancefloor excursions.

Oozing style, the Melbourne producer showcases a singular talent over 11 tracks, bridging frazzled new wave & pulsating techno via claustrophobic electronics.

Equally at home dragging bodies on to the floor (classy IDM-nodder 'Automatic Memory') as keeping them throbbing till sunrise (early-morning highlight 'Pulp Tech'), BT30 deftly connects the varied threads laid out by McPike over his previous EPs for Forbidden Planet, Unthank & Analogue Attic.

Crucially never feeling strained during its steps through styles, there's plenty here for the DJs and herbally-minded home-listening enthusiasts alike. One to sink into... 300 copies.

Banoffee Pies Records release their 8th addition to the original imprint with 4 drum ridden tracks from Bristol local Gallegos with his debut solo EP, 'Mad As Hell'. As the leaders pull us towards the abyss, behind the door through which we cannot see. Into a landscape we cannot predict. Inside the realm of those we cannot control. We shout from the rooftops. This is as 'Mad As Hell' and i'm not going to take it anymore. As the days and months roll on, the media repeats, the calendar clicks, and the unknown future drags itself ever closer, we question why we are here. Maybe after all it is time to move forward, the next destination, to find our 'Beach Feet'. To swim against the current and paddle away. To find firmer ground. To 'Be Who You Want To Be'. Tick tick goes the clock, pressure mounts. After all. Times are hard. 'England Is A Bitch.' BP x

Robotiko Rejekto - Rejekto

Optimo Trax 30 celebrates a double 30 year anniversary: the original release date of Rejekto' and 30 years since Twitch started dj'ing. In 1987, Twitch, who wasn't known as Twitch yet, picked up a copy of Rejekto' at Glasgow's then numero uno import shop, 23rd Precinct. He was smitten.

Shortly after that he got his first ever dj gig and played Rejekto' in his first ever dj set. Nobody danced to it. He kept playing it and still nobody danced to it. Eventually he gave up playing it, but never stopped loving it.

A few years ago he felt the time was right to try playing it again, and this time, people danced to it. In fact, people loved it and would ask about it and shriek in delight when they heard it. There is often a lot of false nostalgia talked about in dance music and how it was better back in the day'. Well, in some ways it was but in many it wasn't, and 30 years later it feels as if perhaps ears are more open, or perhaps Rejekto' was just ahead of its time

From Germany, written and produced by Ra-Hen and Talla 2XLC, Robotiko Reject's Rejekto' was the inaugural release on the Techno Drome International label. With a powerful and seductive vocal sung in Romanian it has latterly been categorised as EBM/Techno but at the time didn't really fit into any convenient genre. Twitch called it electrobeat.

To celebrate this 30th release on Optimo Trax, the 12' comes in a
special sleeve designed by Katie Shambles and Andrew Beltran. As well as featuring the original classic Perfekto' and U.S. Dub' versions, this reissue features a slo-mo cover version by long-time Twitch friend and ally, the mysterious Frenchbloke who was the only other person he knew back then who also loved this wonderful record. Robotiko!

As one of NYC's most innovative individuals, Incienso are happy to announce Kiki Kudo's debut full length EP 'Splashing'. After starting music production just last year with one sole piece of hardware (but DJing in NYC years before), these are some of the wildest songs in time. A self-described mix of 'Nanotech Pop, Synth Jams, Kitchen Wave, and Listening Techno' - somewhere between the experimentalism and anything-goes ethos of the downtown scene, the out-there exploration of City Pop, and a world all of her own.

Opening track, Blackout, is a solid, no-nonsense acid techno workout, perfect for a strobe filled warehouse, and features builds and drops layered with ethereal tones. Emanation is a maelstrom of moving synth sounds, bouncing delay lines and vocal-like klaxons that combine to disorientate the listener. Final track, Mirage is a classic bad attitude acid track with an unnerving acid line that weaves in and out of aggressive percussive lines.

Lost Lake - Sea Spine EP

Lost Lake has been a long-time contributor to the Make Mistakes catalog, but for the first time, he steps from the shadows and stars in his own EP of groovin', good time lovin' acid house jams. Get up in here.

Lost Lake's two originals on this EP, Sea Spine, and Jar Clock, are a couple of classic acid house jams with a modern flare, making them must have for the future retro dance floors of today. When you're living in the future, you want the music to match your cyberpunk bacchanalia of a life, and Lost Lake is the soundtrack for those nights of sweaty abandon.

Jr Gacworth's dubby techno remix of Sea Spine brings a stripped down, slow rolling groove to the original. Playful, and bouncy, pull this one out when it's time to bring a tail shake and a smile to the party. And finally, Stuck at Sea's remix of Dose Lobby is a slow building hypno-jam, for psychedelic dance floors in outer space. A relentless climb up an acid mountain, built for heady afterhours parties in the upper atmosphere.

Another well rounded weapon for the record bag from Make Mistakes. Lost Lake delivers one of our most diverse vinyl EPs to date. Get these sweet jams in your ears, in your crate, to the party, and shake those hams, yo.

It has been a good year for Idle Hands. The label reached its 50th release with a release from Livity Sound's Pev and November saw the release of Parris' latest 12' featuring a KMOS remix.
For the labels final vinyl release of 2018 it is the turn of Stockholm's Pistol Pete. Idle Hands boss Chris Farrell has long been a fan of this artists work. He may not have put much out over the years but each release has found a welcome home at the Bristol record shop from which the label operates.
On this release we find three club focused House tracks, each exuding a warmth one would hope for in these cold winter monts. 'Orphan' opens the set with crunchy, swinging drums and the deft use of a sample. 'Lundagatan' continues things apace with some concentrated drum programming and a chopped up soul sample. 'Esqpads' rounds things off with a warm Deep House feel and grooving bassline.

Jules Wells, Antwon Faulkner - Silent Orchestra

Hijacked Records Detroit Is Feeling Inspired After Hearing New Work From One Of Our Favourite Allies In Techno, Jules Wells. We Felt It Was Our Duty To Deliver This To The People, Three New Productions From Jules With A Guest Remix From Our Own Antwon Faulkner. Please Enjoy - "silent Orchestra."

The Title Track From Jules Really Set The Bar For This Release. Jules Really Understands Story Telling With Music And This Track Transports You To A Time In Techno That Was Both Hopeful And Beautifully Heart Breaking. A Persistent Chord Progression Is Wrapped In Celestial Synth Harmonies Filing Up The Space All Around You And Reaching In. That Classic Clap Is Underpinned With A Touch Of Acid, Creating An Edge. At The 4:33 Mark An Enchanting And Haunting Sign Wave Tells A Melodic Tragedy. Strings Come In Delicately But Wash Over You Completely. This Track Is Both Stunning And Devastating.

Next Up We Have A Remix Of The Title Track From Antwon Faulkner, "silent Orchestra - More Life Remix." Antwon Goes With More Of A Dance Insistent Beat But Uses Many Of The Original Parts Juxtaposed A Little Differently, Pitched Up And Sped Up Slightly. Antwon Drops A Hint Of Sinister In His Vocal Sample But Maintains The Uplifting Positivity Of The Original. These Are Both Great Versions.

We Then Have Another Original Piece From Jules Wells Titled "external." Opening With Almost Tribal Reminiscent Drum Pattern, A Dark And Cloudy Bass End Starts Filling Up The Dark Corners Of Your Mind Before Light Enters - Coaxing You To Come Along. Prominent String Work Takes Centre Stage From 2:15 Throughout. It Is Arresting And Analeptic.

We Close Out This Release With Another Original From Jules Wells Called "electronic Computer." This Track Is Straight Late 80's / Early 90's Electro With Today's Sophisticated And Matured Production Techniques, "electronic Computer" Is Taking That Original Electro We Know And Love And Elevating It. Of Course, There Is A Funky, Kind Of Defiant Attitude To This Track But It's No Less Emotionally Profound. This Is A Complex Story Of The Future But Will Sound And Feel Familiar From Your Come Up.

Jules' Work Is Beautiful And We Are Proud To Help Keep Raising The Bar On What We Can And What We Should Expect From Quality Music - 100% Original / 100% Heart. Trust Us - It Matters.

1993 EACID

12inchZONE33
Zone
27.06.2018

The next release on leading French label Zone is a very special one indeed from long time friend of the label and pioneering electro figure Kittin, the artist formerly known as Miss Kittin. Her standout original comes with an equally impressive remix from Truncate.

A long time stalwart of the electroclash scene who has put out many seminal singles, Kittin has famously collaborated with The Hacker and Felix Da Housecat and mixed up new wave and techno in arresting new ways for decades. Her albums have always been hailed as hugely accomplished and the prolific and innovative Frenchwoman has worked with numerous top labels. Now back once more in 2018 with her first solo single in some time, she is in fine form.

Her offering here, 'EACID', is a timeless piece of deep techno with brain melting bass and twinkling yet menacing keys. Her own vocals are twisted and chopped up into wordless forms that add layers of intrigue and the whole thing is brilliantly broody. A breakdown at the mid point allows you to catch your breath as her voice refracts round the airwaves, then the icy hi hats and rumbling drums and bass land again with subtly uplifting, light emitting chords rising in the background. All in all, this is one of Kittin's most special and evocative tracks of recent times.

Remixing is Truncate, the deep techno artist who runs a label of the same name and has released his killer wares on 50Weapons. His version is more wild and flailing, with the keys becoming more manic, the drums darting about all over the place and the voice becoming more paranoid and trippy.

Formed in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. Their name comes from a character in JG Ballardâs âAtrocity Exhibition❠and their music reflects his influence. Nagamatzu self-released their debut cassette âShatter Days❠in 1983 after messing around with old tape machines, drum boxes and effects. âAbove This Noise❠is a compilation of 9 songs recorded in the period between the release of âSacred Islands of the Madâ in 1986 and âIgniting the Corpseâ in 1991. It gathers tracks which surfaced on some of the international compilation cassette releases that the band were invited to contribute to in the 1980s as well as some previously unreleased songs. The bandâs working method was for Andrew to first record a backing track, usually rhythm, sequence, samples. Then both members would layer more electronics, samples, guitar and bass over the top, recording the whole piece in one take. These instrumentals combine stuttering bass, guitar bursts and funeral keyboards draped over a dragging drum machine beat, calling to mind Clock DVA, early New Order or Cocteau Twins. Their sound is full of complex rhythm patterns and dark electronics.

House of Sands presents T.O.P - Party Tellt EP

Superstar DJ Grace has been busy - sampling TS Madison's legendary call out of Caitlyn Jenner after the Trump inauguration last year. TS's cutting disses mixed with the warm statements of tran unity caught Grace's ear, resulting in a ten and half minute acid lick complete with deep chords to bring the mood and stay true to her original deep house vibe. This first release on Grace's label TruVanity ft. remixes by Brooks and Grace herself. Check it!

With "Bridge" Norman really pulled off a great wrist-shot and "Plinkel" certainly is no ordinary musical-snack, it's
more like a spicy, full-flavour gourmet-dinner the cook offers in his menu. With his track "That's My Fall", he
accomplishes to hit the musical- bulls-eye and for those who missed his last shot, he generously stocks up their
record-ammunition with "5 Rauscher", too make even the laziest techno-patriots shake their booty.
