Frontline is the 9th studio album by Dub Pistols. Chief rabble-rousers & festival favourites, the band are known for their veritable feast of jump-up party-starting sounds, melding dub, reggae, dancehall, ska & DnB into an irresistible tonic that has seen them amass a merry band of Pistoleros across the world.

Amsterdam based Mausovic Dance Band make madcap music intent on expanding musical universes. Powered by elastic rhythms and some potent dub wizardry, the five-piece are synonymous with flipping global music traditions and creating new, sound-system stylised, synth powered, dance-floor experiments. Whilst their 2019 debut album on Soundway Records offered a frenetic mix, imbued by the Colombian champeta, Ghanaian highlife and spaced out disco, their new forthcoming album Buckaroo Bank, set for release on Swiss label Bongo Joe Records, feeds off the industrial sounds of New York City, post punk and early electronic explorers. At the very centre of the project is the dub, the Mauskovic echo chamber, guided by their universal hero Lee Scratch Perry and made possible by their studio friend Kasper Frenkel who provided the tools this new Mauscovic riddim philosophy. A proper family band (4 of them are related), and fronted by Nico Mauscovic who is also part of Zamrock touring band W.I.T.C.H., the group have released various singles since their debut album including on Berlin label Dekmantel and most recently, on experimental Swiss label Bongo Joe, their perfect home for brand new album Buckaroo Bank.

Those styles appear like solar polaroids , bringing images to the minds of neophytes and music lovers. 12 effective and original tunes mixing analog instrumentals like in “Life pon the line” or “CrystalBall” to the uncompromising Stepper from « Roll Call ». Rastafarianism came to prominence in the late 1960's/ 1970's and had a huge influence on the musical culture in Jamaica. The sentiments of the songs reflected the struggles of life, as reggae music always did but now with an added spiritual/conscious element to the lyrics. By the mid 1970's most, if not all the top flight singers were following the doctrine and growing their har to dreadlocks.
Everything was truly 'Dread'.
At the heart of this musical explosion was again Bunny 'Striker' Lee a man who was always at the heart of the action and many times in his career ahead of the musical game. As Bunny Lee's stable of singers were at this time nearly all Rasta's and with the worldwide acceptance of Bob Marley, in especially the foreign territories, this musical style was the way forward for reggae music in the mid 1970's. The visual focal point of this new turn in reggae music would be a call to all things 'Dread'. Add to the mix Bunny Lee's close working relationship with studio wizard King Tubby, again not a Rasta himself, but someone who could sonically bring what was needed to the table and enable the whole musical chemistry to fall into place.
Heavy rhythms were created to match the heavy and serious lyrics and 'Versions Galore' as they say were coming out fast and furious.
We have compiled a set of conscious tunes that not only match the 'Dread' criteria, but also are just great tunes. The great Jacob Miller's 'Zion Gates', Cornell Campbells 'Two Faced Rasta', Horace Andy's 'It's Gonna Be Dread' alongside Linval Thompson's 'Never Conquer Jah'. Two timeless cuts from the 'The Abyssinians' get a fresh outing by two great singers, firstly Don Carlos' cut to 'Satta Massaganna' and the prince of reggae himself, Dennis Brown works 'Declaration of Rights' in fine style. Johnny Clarke's 'Man like Me' and 'Dem Say Rasta' still sound as fresh today as when they were first laid down and Wayne Jarrett's 'Live On Jah' and Frankie Jones 'Satta and Praise Jah' add to this great selection. All great 'Dread' tunes that were cut or voiced at King Tubby's giving them that extra shine.
So if you are Rasta or not this is a great set of tunes to make you move and also like all of the best things in life, make you think.........

















Track 14 WICKED BABYLON - LINVAL THOMPSON

After almost a year waiting for the records, we finally present to you our new 7”, a new collaboration between Ojah and Hada Guldris.

The A side contains the track “Time To Be Ready”, featuring jazz singer Hada Guldris on vocals, who delivers wonderful melodies and harmonies paired with a strong message in the lyrics. It was recorded a few years ago at the same time as their previous collaboration “Life Is Better When You Smile” that came out on this label in 2017 (ALDBS7004).

On the B side we find the track “Dub To Be Ready”, a trippy and introverted instrumental dub version full of effects and modulations, mixed live by Ojah on his analog board.

* Two sought-after vocal tracks from influential British reggae band Rhythm-ites recorded in 1988.
* Rhythm-ites recorded their classic debut album `Intergration’ (Bluurg Records) at Southern Studios, London in 1989 (recently reissued on Partial Records as limited edition) and were regular fixtures on the free festival circuit.
* `I & I’ and `Guiding Star’ previously only appeared on the `Travellers Aid Trust’ compilation 1988, compiled by Hawkwind.

By the close of the Sixties, record retailer and jukebox businessman Karl ‘J.J.’ Johnson was firmly established as one of Jamaica’s leading record producers, having released a string of best-selling rock steady and proto-reggae 45s by such noted local acts as Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, the Rulers, Carl Dawkins, the Kingstonians and the Ethiopians. Early in 1969, Trojan Records released an album containing a dozen of Johnson’s latest recordings in the new reggae style. Entitled Reggae Power, the LP was dominated by regular hit-makers the Ethiopians.

Reggae Power is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange coloured vinyl.

British-born Sheila Hylton's name is cat nip for reagge-loving record diggers. The vocalist spent much of her childhood in Jamaica and has an effortlessly soulful take on roots and lovers' rock. She recorded several albums and many singles but none are as sought after as her cover of 'It's Gonna Take a Lot of Love', which was originally written by Neil Young. An original copy of this 45rpm will cost you about a week's wages so Jaywax has pressed up this version so you can own your own mint copy. Flip it over for the instrumental dub version 'Labamba' which is laden with percussion, keys and studio trickery.

This set of Al Brown dub mixes by Paolo ‘DubFiles’ Baldini was
a project that Pressure Sounds had been itching to tackle for some time. They finally got around to starting on the mixes during
the lockdown period, when everyone had a little more time
and headspace lucky for some. Thirteen tracks on the CD and eight tracks on the single vinyl LP.

Al Brown is a fine Jamaican singer who came closest to troubling the UK charts with his Al Green cover version ‘Here I Am Baby.’
In the early 1980’s he recorded a beautiful album, backed by Inner Force, which was inexplicably never released, and thought to be lost forever. When Al Brown’s original multi-track tapes were miraculously discovered, he handed them over to Pressure Sounds, who had them restored and beautifully mixed by Paolo ‘DubFiles’ Baldini, with a sympathetic blend of overdubs on top of the original backing tracks.

These dubbed-out mixes are firmly in the roots reggae tradition
of classic Jamaican recordings from the 70s, blended with
the tastefully restrained modern studio techniques of today. Tracks range from the heavy dubs of ‘Ghetto Situation’ and ‘Dub Me Again’, to the funkier ‘Liquid Dream’, featuring Toike Mitsuhiro from Japan on vibraphone.

Baldini explains how his mixes combine modern and older techniques, but are always urgent and raw as he mixes his dubs live in a single take. “In terms of the equipment I tried to have
a ‘conservative’ approach and stay with a mixing desk and analogue outboard that were consistent with the original recordings. So we had a pleasant alternation between the tradition of analog effects (tapes and springs...) and the nascent digital technology that began to establish itself in Jamaica from 1986.” Working from his Alambic Conspiracy Studio, which is stuffed with an eye-watering selection
of vintage and modern audio gear, Paulo ‘Dubfiles’ Baldini has used ancient lost tapes to create a beautifully crafted modern classic, including five extra tracks on the CD.

Flox is square. Square, precise, direct.

He goes straight to the point, and doesn’t waist his time with useless considerations. “I have no time to shit around”, he says. So, his seventh album is called Square. Square represents a major turning point in the career of the pioneer of nu reggae. An extraordinary architect of studio production and multi-instrumentalist who records, mixes and produces but also, for several years, performs on stage with his musicians. After recording Square, he started touring alone, equipped with a machine he designed and built with Midi controllers to launch original samples and loops - an autarky assumed from one end of the process to the other. “You have to master all the tools to deliver what you want”, he has been saying for years...

Yet, this Square is wide open: old school rhythms or techno-like approaches, vintage dub or futuristic take offs, thick sound basses and melodies, scraped to the bone...

A track born straight from the womb of sound system and clash culture. Already rated as a future classic by dubplate connaisseurs, the track sets the tone for what to expect from the most forward thinking dub outfit on their next LP.

Built around a powerful 4-4 beat, "Chainsaw" combines lush vocals and modern style toasting, warm textures and rough soundscapes, flames, sweat and an unchained quantity of bass. Built by Rico O.B.F in France, sang by Charlie P the "Dub Controller" from the UK and Argentina’s very own "Woman Soldier" Belén Natalí, on their first time collaboration. The rattling bass, neck-breaking kick, brutally processed drums and captivating lyrics in English and Spanish testify to O.B.F’s international appeal, brilliant versatility and desire to explore new sonic territories.

"Chainsaw" illustrates the fierce competition and vitality that sits at the core of sound system sessions. A clash between the two MCs and two teams of dancers gets depicted in the explosive music video by TerralStudios: Bélen and her team of divine voguers face off with Charlie P and his bloodthirsty skankers. An intense confrontation takes place, gradually getting swept away by a collective infatuation for the music, unity takes hold of the dance, the very magic that emanates from sound system!

One of the two new 7" from All Nations Records coming early 2022 is a rework of a legendary tune that all reggae fans know. “I Know Myself” from Ernest Wilson has been a regular play by all champion sounds from Sir Cosxone to Jah Shaka and alikes since late 70’s. Never would be the intention to do better, but All Nations Records likes to do his thing a little bit different, so Simon Nyabinghi has rebuilt the tune entirely in his studio in 2022 style.
With a clever recipe of carefully picked sounds and a grooving way of playing, it has the original vibes with a bouncing twist that should suit to all original fans and beyond. All in all, a great humble tribute to a legendary artist sadly gone to zion earlier in 2021. 

Official re-issue and re-mastered 7-Inch single for much sampled singer Johnny Osbourne. "Ice Cream Love" (based on the 'He Prayed' riddim) is the 1980 tune produced by Henry "Junjo" Lawes and recorded at Channel One studio with the Roots Radics Band. "Extra Time One" is the dub version mixed by Overton "Scientist" Brown at King Tubby's studio.

"BOOH Tales" is a one story seen and heard from different parts of the room. It's the memories focused on some vanishing details of the same party. The soap bubble of "BOOH" splits into many pieces just to spread around the people and have a glimpse of the good time.

The Mighty Jah Stitch was a legend in Jamaica, making the move as so many ghetto youth’s have tried from Bad Man to Music Man. Jah Stitch embraced the DJ Culture that he himself was an integral part of.
He put not one but two musical stamps on the format. His initial Big Youth sounding chants grew from working alongside the man on the mic. The second almost spoken vibe came about after a well documented incident that led to him being shot .He lived to tell the tale and cut some of the finest Roots DJ cuts, with his new vocal style that many copied but few have surpassed.

We have selected some of his best known tracks to show the knack of working a killer rhythm and dubbed vocal with an almost call and response story telling style.
The opening and title track to this set ‘Dread Inna Jamdown’ sees him working over John Holt’s ‘In The Springtime’.
The second cut ‘Dem Seek Natty Everywhere’ works another John Holt classic ‘Forgot to Say I Love You’.

After some hits in the 1970’s, the 1980’s would see a short name change to Major Stitch.
But we feel that his best loved monicker Jah Stitch serves the man well.

Acid Jazz Records presents Nick Manasseh and David Hill’s
Soul Revivers with their ‘On The Grove’ album.
 An ambitious and passionate collaboration project, it features
musicians spanning seven decades, including Jamaican
legends Ernest Raglin, Ken Boothe, Earl 16 and Devon
Russell, alongside contemporary artists including jazz
trumpeter Ms. Maurice (known for her work with Afro Jazz
ensembles Kokoroko and Nubya Garcia) and vocalist Alexia
Coley.
 The roots of Soul Revivers lie in film. In late 2017, David was
asked to act as music and creative consultant for Idris Elba’s
‘Yardie’. David and Nick’s subsequent productions for the
film provided the spark for what would become the album.
 ‘On The Grove’ was produced at Yard Studios, under the
Westway, below the charred hulk of Grenfell. It is a journey
through the moodier side of reggae, and a progression in the
ever evolving, yet timeless nature of the music. It is also a
tribute to its long connection to West London, and in
particular Ladbroke Grove and Notting Hill, distilled in the
sleeve itself, which features Charlie Phillips’ photograph of
Lepke (founder of Dread Broadcasting Platform) setting up
for the Notting Hill Carnival in the late 1970s.
 Alongside the featured artists, there are stellar performances
throughout, from an extraordinary range of London’s most
talented musicians, completing the next chapter in the
musical mythology of West London reggae.

Soul Revivers continue onwards from their earlier 2022 release ‘On The Grove’ with the hotly anticipated dub version ‘Grove Dub’.

An ambitious, collaborative project, producers David Hill and Nick Manasseh bring together reggae legends, including Ken Boothe and Ernest Ranglin, with the hottest UK musical talent, in what has become the standout reggae project of the year.

The dub version continues in the same vein - another instalment in the rich history of West London reggae and dub.

Producer, author, composer, multi-instrumentalist, dub organizer, label manager and singer with a unique voice, Joe Yorke is a breath of fresh air in the contemporary UK reggae scene. Known by reggae specialists for his work with the Co-operators and recently exposed to a wider audience through his two singles recorded in collaboration with Stand High Patrol, the Northern artist presents his first self-produced album : "Noise And Emptiness".

On Rhythm Steady’s debut LP, Joe Yorke plays the card of authenticity, filled with strong drum and bass sections, grooving silences, striking dub segments and heart touching vocals. Joe Yorke's music evokes the sound of Channel One UK, Channel One JA and Randy's which are among the most iconic studios of English and Jamaican reggae history. He cruises between Kingston, soundsystem dub's England, Wackies's New York and Rhythm And Sound's Berlin. Throughout the eight tracks and three dubs that make up the album, these influences collide to reveal the Rhythm Steady aesthetic : a deep, meditative and solid roots sound dubbed with no compromises.

With two singers and deejay features and lyrics that are part of a “conscious” tradition, the parsimoniously employed vocals leave a vast space for dub. Noise and Emptiness opens a window on the musical universe built by Joe Yorke, celebrating old school roots and dub music, from the studio to the soundsystem. Already played on the radio by great names of reggae such as David Rodigan, Don Letts, Dennis Bovell and Nick Manasseh, “Noise And Emptiness” will awaken the sensitivity of any lover of the genre. Just a few steps away from the Dubquake Studio in Geneva's suburbs is where Mysticwood, a young fanatic dub producer, has chosen to set up his own musical universe. After starting his sonic journey by shredding in Rock / Punk / Grunge and Stoner bands, the young self-taught multi-instrumentalist’s ears were unexpectedly exposed to reggae music in his school playground. Quickly becoming fascinated by old-school Roots and it’s meditative counterpart, Dub, he decided to start productions of his own. A few years later, while already appearing on party line ups alongside O.B.F, Mysticwood reveals his producer and dub mixing skills on this fresh release entitled "The Mystic Way Of Dub", his first EP.

With four killer instrumental tunes and dub versions directly inspired by the Jura’s mountainous forest regions where Charlie Mystic grew up, "The Mystic Way Of Dub" testifies to the man's powerful roots background and his fascination for UK Dub made by his elders. Steppers, rockers or one drop style; analog console and effects, tape machines and dub mixing at it’s finest: at only 22 years old Mysticwood masters his craft and delivers an EP enjoyable to most. After a first outstanding collaboration on the song ‘Mother Nature’, Greenwhich Farm's singer Sylvan White teams up once again with Fruits Records!

On a 80's dancehall rub a dub type of riddim played by The 18th Parallel, Sylvan White sings about his faith in Rastafari and shares his knowledge of the traditional culture, the mystic of the nyabinghi drums.
