"SIRENS" - the new album from Canadian Spoken Word poet MYRA DAVIES with music by Berliners GUDRUN GUT and BEATE BARTEL.

Myra Davies is back with a new packet of witty stories and poetic reportage in a dynamic current of electronica by Berliners, Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel. Movement is a major theme. Davies' eye, insightful yet detached, wanders assertively over land to sea to outer space, through time, past to present to future. Her observations and reflections on art, culture, convention, capitalism, express instability, the contingent even conjectural nature of existence. Yet they suggest (without promising) the possibility of optimistic resolution. For Davies, the personal is political and Art is more so.

The album includes a three-track riposte to Götterdammerung, the final opera in Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle. Two tracks tell the story. The third (DO YA) links the epic to us. Wagner was called 'the great seducer' because he aimed to 'take' his audience in an emotional gut grab that's been described as 'artistic rape'. No invitation here to sink hypnotically into the dark ambient tones Gut and Bartel provide for Davies, who in telling the story frequently pops out of it to comment. Indeed, the point of revisiting this End Time for Übermenschen is to draw attention to the eagerness with which we give ourselves to art, politics, love, war, consumption, work, religion, pop culture, technology, vanity, and thus to bondage. Fortunately,the message is delivered in a tempestuous roil of words and music, i.e. — seductively.

MYRA DAVIES: A personal Note: The word 'siren' contains both allure and danger warning. Come hither. Stay away. Such isometric emotional dualities can drive a person around a post like a work donkey. I question such 'native' impulses and the Romantic notion that emotion is the seat of authenticity, our true core. Our minds - amygdala included - are colonised. Yet the human brain is flexible. Somewhere between a Dadaistic mixtape, a surreal audio collage sourced from his record collection, and sporadic interjections from his own storehouse of outlandish and intriguing productions, this 79-minute journey reveals Madteo's freewheeling rigor in the studio. Prone to glitching, rhythmic ruptures, and end-times bass frequencies, Confessions surfs quark-infested waters with hallucinogenic logic. Fragmentation rules everything around Madteo. You will hear — among other things — Adderall-addled raps subsumed by mutant techno, radio ads for trance-blues masters Canned Heat, riveting noise-techno merging into lopsided hiphop reminiscent of Jan Jelinek's Exposures project, the passionate folk balladry of Lucio Battisti, the glittery soul of Billy Preston, and some of the coldest and oddest electro funk ever. Throughout, Madteo flaunts baffling, unprecedented sounds arranged in confounding configurations. Confessions of a Permanent Alien Opium Beater is another crucial piece of a discography from one of music's most fascinating enigmas, a celestial lysergic jukebox that conjures new pleasures and deeper mysteries with each listen.

The latest work from Florian Hecker A Script for Machine Synthesis is an experimental auditory drama and a model of abstraction. A Script for Machine Synthesis presents a complex simplicity that spirals in an unending manner as an audio image of the uncanny valley. It is the third chapter in the trilogy of text-sound pieces Hecker has collaborated with the philosopher Reza Negarestani. A resynthesized voice outlines procedure as procedure itself unfolds.

The suggestive encounter with a pink ice cube is a conceptual point of departure for a scene in which linguistic chimeras of descriptors are materialized through synthetic trophies, mental props and auditory objects.

Hecker presents a synthesis of the gap in the valley which we almost know. The motifs Hecker has staged in the last decade, the text, the sound, the scent, the obelisk, the demon, the self, the other all appear throughout in a thorough, rigid and formal exploration.

Exeunt all human actors, A Script for Machine Synthesis is an experiment in putting synthetic emptiness back into synthetic thought.

Peripheral Minimal is proud to announce the forthcoming album, 'Aus Den Anti-Imperialistischen Tagebu¨chern', by In Namen Des Volkes.

INDV is the brainchild of Hamburg resident Matthias Schuster (also of Bal Pare, Das Institut,Geisterfahrer and others), and creates a more heavy-weight style of Minimal Synth in the spirit of D.A.F., or even early Front 242. The tracks were taken directly off cassettes and reworked with added vocals, whilst maintaining the original 80s recording techniques of 4-track and purely analogue instrumentation, strictly no plug-ins or digitalism here!

Matthias has been actively producing complex synthetic sounds since the late 1970s, having released seminal albums and singles on respected labels such as, Plastic Frog, Minimal Wave and Medical Records. His passion for all things analogue seems to be irrepressible, devoting a considerable amount of time to myriad projects each with their own unique qualities and sonics. He musically switches from Neue Deutsche Welle stylings, to Minimal Synth and proto-EBM with great dexterity and a rare continuing dedication.

Three tracks which emerged from a rehearsal session in an oddly decorated room in South Croydon.

"Laughing Out" is the duo's sing-along summer anthem and shares some DNA with "Love Can't Turn Around" as re-imagined/destroyed by a middle-aged balding chap with a deep distrust of the dancefloor.

"For Vocal" appears to be a recording of people moving pallets of ride cymbals wrapped in tin-foil around a warehouse but it's hard to say, really. Almost certainly important.

"Palazzo" = a computer minding its own academic business + some curmudgeonly American test equipment + some honeypot crooning = not a dry seat in the house.

THE SOUND OF YOUNG CROYDON

Dale Cornish: born, raised and current of London (south). Previously in No Bra (2004-6): co-wrote unexpected hit "Munchausen". Terse humour and observations/worldly interests further evident with work of ecstatic noise trio Baraclough (2006-2012). Current focus is on solo recordings for labels including Entr'acte, The Tapeworm and Beartown Records, and collaborations with artists including Adam Asnan, Andie Brown, Powell and Phil Julian.

Phil Julian is a UK based composer and improviser active since the late 90s principally working with modular electronic devices and computers. Releases have appeared on labels including Entr'acte, Harbinger Sound, The Tapeworm and Beartown Records. Recent collaborations on recordings and performances with Dale Cornish, John Macedo, Kostis Kilymis, Jason Kahn and Angharad Davies. Regular live performances since 2004 in the UK, Europe and North America.

Burroughs and his executor James Grauerholz to starting the daunting task to compile the experimental sounds works of Burroughs, which, up until that point, had never been heard. During those visits, Burroughs would play back his tape recorder experiments featuring his spoken word 'cut-ups', collaged field recordings from his travels and his flirtations with EVP recording techniques, pioneered by Latvian intellectual Konstantins Raudive. Throughout the next year, P-Orridge, Christopherson and Grauerholz would spent countless hours compiling various edits, each collection showcasing Burroughs sensitive ear and keen experimental prowess for audio anomaly within technical limitations. By the time 1981 came through, Burroughs had relocated to Lawrence, KS in which to escape the violence and mania of New York City life. It is in Lawrence that P-Orridge and Christopherson put the finishing touches on the record that would be known as 'Nothing Here Now but the Recordings'. The album would come out in the Spring of 1981 as the final release for the shuttering Industrial Records, brought about by the dissolution of Throbbing Gristle. The album remained out of print until 1998 when John Giorno and the Giorno Poetry Systems included the album on a multi-disc retrospective CD box set compiling the majority of Burroughs seminal recordings.

(Beastie Boys) favourite DJs. DJ Woody aka Lee Woodvine fits the criteria for that clichéd term 'Your favourite DJ's favourite DJ'.
Following his collaborative 'BocaWoody' EP with Bristol's Boca 45 earlier this year, October sees the release of the debut solo
album from the Lancashire (UK) born World Champion turntablist.
'The Point Of Contact' is hand crafted electronic music born from a collection of disparate dusty vinyl samples, reinterpreted
by a cast of Manchester's finest musicians (including Christian Madden (The Earlies), Carl Sharrocks (808 State), Nick Blacka
(GoGo Penguin) and Matthew Halsall) and returned to vinyl to be re-imagined by the hands of one of the Worlds most accom-
plished scratch DJs.
The process alone makes the music irrefutably routed in hip hop, however the album takes in influences ranging from jazz-rock,
britcore rap, psychedelia and electronica with Woody jokingly referring to it as 'Prog-Hop'. In contrast to many DJ records
centred around abstract, comedy or battle cut-ups, this record draws on real life experience and introspection to inject an
honesty and soul to the work.

Whilst the textured instrumentation sets the tone throughout the album, select spoken word samples serve as a narration of the
internal monologue that guides our outlook and shapes our reality, taking the listener on a voyage through inner-space.
Released on double vinyl and illustrated by Woody himself, the package includes download card and a special bonus 12'
scratch record made entirely from samples and stems from the album.
The live set includes key players in the recording, Christian Madden (keyboards) and Carl Sharrocks (drums) and premiers at the
2016 DMC World Championships at the 02 Forum in London on 24th September. This is followed by a series of performances in
LA for DJCIty, Serato and BPM Supreme.

Twenty years ago William S. Burroughs was asked to record an audio version of his favourite parts of Naked Lunch. Hal Willner and James Grauerholz produced several sessions and recruited a team of world class musicians to help.



Famed for their Naked City involvement Bill Frisell and Wayne Horowitz contributed their genius as well as Eyvind Kang just to name a few. The recordings were then abandoned and collecting dust on a musty shelf as forgotten as a piece of rancid ectoplasm on a peepshow floor.



In 2015 Hal Willner decided to re-open this unfinished masterpiece and asked help from King Khan [a musician that he and Lou Reed admired and became fast friends with after two fiery performances by The King Khan & BBQ Show at Lou and Laurie's request in the Sydney Opera House]. Hal sent Khan all of the recordings and asked him to add his gris gris to this extremely perverted gumbo... and history was made and the scum began to rise.

"Leaves Of Grass" is a collaborative EP between Tarwater, alva noto and Iggy Pop. Each of the seven featured tracks scores a poem by American wordsmith Walt Whitman. Iggy Pop contributes spoken word recordings, while Tarwater and alva noto create the music.

The EP lends its title from Whitman's main work 'Leaves Of Grass'. It channels forces from exceptional artists: Carsten Nicolai, aka alva noto, is a renowned artist and electronic producer. He is well-known for his diverse electronic work released through Mille Plateaux or his own label Raster-Noton. His first recordings had a huge impact on what was called 'Clicks & Cuts' in the late 90s. At the same time, Ronald Lippok and Bernd Jestram began their pioneering work: As Tarwater they pushed the last existing boundaries between electronic music, new wave and indie culture with their idiosyncratic music, which was hard to describe without using the prefix 'post-'.

As you may have heard, the career of Iggy Pop started back in the 1960s. In 1967 he formed The Stooges and was later deemed 'Godfather Of Punk'. For this EP he lends his distinctive voice to seven poems by Walt Whitman, while Tarwater and alva noto create a vibrant and ever-pulsating score, sometimes calm, sometimes plodding and monolithic.

"You know, I think he had something like Elvis. Like Elvis ahead of his time, one of the first manic American populists. You know you're looking at pictures of him, and he was obviously someone who was very much involved with his own physical appearance. His poetry is always about motion and rushing ahead, and crazy love and blood pushing through the body. He would have been the perfect gangster rapper. Whitman says, even the most beautiful face is not as beautiful as the body. And to say that in the middle of the 19th century is outrageous. It's a slap in the face. Look at the popular, well-educated poets of the time, those sensitive noblemen. But Whitman writes: "Fuck ass."

After being half a year absent from the outside world, Good Ratio Music presents us their new release from Little Big Orchestra who is showing us his first work ever done, named Experiment 626. It contents a bunch of mysterial sounds clashing with deep, dark sequences, which makes this creation stepping out of the usually offered tones of GRM. The music unlocks a very intimate side of the artist, songs made by broken beats, pitched voices and profound themes will drift the listener to another universe. The precise red line through this selection processed playing with contrasting fragile and strong metallic tones makes it an unique and special piece. The remixer for this occasion is no one less than the genius Tin Man (Absurd, Key Of Life), who transformed the track Toys & Diamonds into a more solid, slow techno rhythmic version, once in a vocal rework, recorded by himself and the other one into a dub version.

Uncanny Valley introduces the next artist from the UV010 compilation with his solo debut. This time it's Scherbe and his 'Jardin Du Midi-EP'. And what he delivers is pure Deep House goodness. First of all, 'College Dropout' makes clear that a lashing snare can never be wrong. With that infectious xylophone loop and slightly devilish strings dropping out of college doesn't sound like the worst option. 'Arts Is Movin Butts' fulfils what the name suggests. Even though those butts have to move very skilfully while dancing to such a lurching rhythm. 'Jardin du Midi' is another perfect example that it sometimes just needs a catchy house beat and masterful sample work. Combining such a wonderful vocal snippet and those typical railway drums is Scherbe to the core. 'Endlezz Cinema' on the other hand is an absolute earwig. The bass line won't leave your head for quite a while. Lovely strings and folky background guitars help to keep the magic. Actor, comedian, friend of the label, Aziz Ansari (of Parks and Rec fame) has visited Third Man a handful of times, even gracing us with a surprise live set back in 2013. For years we've been working hard to find something to release together and his second Comedy Central stand-up special, Dangerously Delicious, which was originally released in 2012, contains so many great moments (50 Cent's 1st grapefruit experience, anyone?), it just needs to be pressed into wax. A long-awaited release, this is the 7” version of the Bob Dylan Classic “Blind Willie McTell”, out exclusively on black vinyl on August 20, 2021. The record will be available only at indie record stores and the Third Man Records online and physical stores. The 7” features two previously unreleased takes of the song, with the A-side being exclusive to this vinyl release. The B-side (take 5) will be included as part of Spring In New York: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 16 (1980-1985). The recordings on this single feature a formidable lineup of session musicians, including Mark Knopfler, Mick Taylor, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. “Blind Willie McTell” was the first track seriously worked on at the Infidels sessions and the last attempted as recording concluded almost a month later. In the end, it did not make the Infidels album, but in 1991, the acoustic piano-guitar version that Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler recorded the last day was released on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3. The full band version from the first day of the sessions will now see the light of day as part of Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series, Vol. 16 (1980-1985).
