Sensational, Yeah You
- 100 copies

Gwilly Edmondez Is The Dad From Yeah You, One Of The Maddest, Most Vital Duos In Underground Uk Music Right Now. Slip's Trouble Number Retrospective Extends A Hard-to-resist Invitation To Peruse Four Decades Of Gwilly's Work At The Outer Limits Of Pop Music, Pairing The Gnarlage Of Self C30 Tape With A C60 Mixtape ...made Questionably And Unquestioningly By Himself, To Present A Cherry-picked And Unflinching 90 Minute Portrait Of A Properly Prophetic, Pop-wizened Soul In His Element.
Prone To Magpie Whatever Snags His Ear And Turn It To His Own Ends, Gwilly Ransacks Hip-hop, Black Metal, Folk, Power Balladry And Much More, Adapting Inventive Extended Vocal Techniques To Consolidate A Syncretic Blatz Of Bewildering Musical Logic And Unrhymed Reasoning. To The Casual Observer It Could Appear To Be A Study In Mental Health Or A Dadaist Play, But Pay Some Respect To Listen And Gwilly Will Reward Closer Attention With Flashes Of Genuine Pop Genius Mixed With Baffling Non-sequiturs And Hallucinatory Levels Of Captivating Oddness.
The Gnarlage Of Self Tape Was Made On Newcastle's Hottest Day Of 2017, In An Upstairs Room In Heaton, And Documents Finely Graded States Of Mind Between The Skittish Tangle Of 10 Banks Of Nein And The Reeling Soul Cadence Of Make Your Own World, Which Could Arguably Be Considered A Definitive Edmondez Anthem. On The C60 Tape Gwilly Edmondez: A Retrospective Mixtape Made Questionably & Unquestioningly By Himself, The Handrails Are Further Erased, Resulting In A Tumbling Sequence Of Slapstick Songcraft And Spare, Improvised Electronics Mulched Into Mixtape Form. It's Here Where The In/sanity And Truth Really Comes Out, Oozing And Ranting In A Disarray Of Bluesy Declamations, Gender-bent Torch Songs And Psychotomimetic Scramble Drawn From
Auld Tapes Dating To The Mid '80s, The Dankest Niches Of Ubuweb Archives, And Up-to-the-minute Snatches Of Recent Live Shows. For Anyone Who Is Intrigued By Or Appreciates The Work Of Richard Youngs, Jandek, Cosmic Dennis Greenidge, Mark Wynn, Sensational Or Fenriz, Consider This Crucial Listening.

Félix Blume - Death In Haiti: Funeral Brass Bands & Sounds from Port Au Prince

15 dead, 15 funerals, 16 funeral processions, 1 procession with no dead, 5 churches, 1 cemetery, 1 wake. 15 hours of recorded sounds are condensed into a vivid sound portrait depicting the way funerals and burials are lived in the Caribbean island of Haiti.

Recorded in Port au Prince by sound artist Félix Blume in early December 2016, Death in Haiti plunges the listener into a world of pain, loss and solemn celebration as each funeral comprises of its own live jazz band as well as a plethora of characters like the joker (le blaguer) who cracks jokes and tales about the recently deceased.

A beautiful document of a thriving tradition, a counterpart or updated version of those famous Dirge Jazz records such as the New Orleans' Eureka Brass Band on Folkways.

INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL 'HIP MANUAL'! PLUS BEATNIK-JAZZ BONUS TRACKS! Attention, this is one of the non-music cult obscurities that came out of nowhere during decades of music history. This 1961 released fictional dialogue between a moderator and somebody involved in the late 1950s hipster / beatnik movement in which both discuss the meaning of words and phrases from the youth and - hipster language of the 50's. It is different to the typical spoken word records where either political or philosophical pamphlets get recited. It is a dialogue, a comedic dialogue with some audience noises fadet in, some strange narrations and examples how to speak in a 1950s beatnik style. It is an interesting authentic document of its time and certainly a challenge even for those who speak English fairly well. A collectors item for fans and retro hipsters a time when a vivid counter society was pulsating beyond the idyllic world on the surface.

Dick Higgins - Poems & Metapoems

Dick Higgins

Poems & Metapoems

12inchR33
d
30.07.2017

Edition of 470 copies, incl. 16 page pamphlet

Recital Program present a reissue of Dick Higgins's Poems And Metapoems, originally released on cassette by New Wilderness Audiographics in 1982.

Label head Sean McCann on the reissue:
"Since the beginning of Recital, I have been trying to publish the work of Dick Higgins. He is a chief figure in my artistic world, a hero of mine. And now, with the assistance of Charlie Morrow, it has finally happened. The first vinyl album ever published of Higgins!

Many know Dick Higgins as the father of intermedia, a key player in the birth of fluxus, and the owner/operator of the fabulous Something Else Press. His own poetry is what stirred me. Namely, his book Foew & Ombwhnw (1969), which contains one of my favorite of his works, 'Moments in the Lives of Great Women,' along with other lovely poems (some included on this LP).

This recording is of Dick himself reading his own poetry. Poems And Metapoems begins with a voice/tape manipulation piece from 1962, while the rest of the collection employs only language manipulation. Alike a cantor, each word is delivered perfectly with strong warmth. His ability to relay pattern-based poems into sonics is impressive.

This album was recorded in 1982, and contains the reading of poems written between 1958-1980. Originally published as a cassette tape by New Wilderness Audiographics, which is nearly impossible to find now. The audio has been remastered and cleaned up for this edition.

Dick lived large and was a busybody. All the faucets were running within him, handles broken off. Always pulling to mesh painfulness with playfulness, heart-warmth with heartbreak, comedy with tragedy etc. It is this plurality that Higgins encourages us to spark and flourish."

Includes a 16-page pamphlet of notes and poetry by Higgins and an essay on both Higgins and New Wilderness Audiographics by Charlie Morrow, Edition of 470.

Suzanne Ciani - Lixiviation

REPRESSED !!
With a sonic portfolio that boasts commissions for the Xenon classic pinball machine, the sounds for the Meco Star Wars theme, the Atari TV commercials and the electronic sound effects in the original Stepford Wives film (amongst many others) the mutant electronic music CV of Suzanne Ciani is proof that in a 1970s commercial world of boys toys, monopolised by a male dominated media industry, a woman's touch was the essential secret ingredient to successful sonic seduction. A classically trained musician with an MA in music composition this American Italian pianist was first introduced to the synthesizer via her connections in the art world when abstract Sculptor and collaborator Harold Paris introduced Suzanne to synthesizer designer Don Buchla who created the instrument that would come to define Ciani's synthetic sound (The Buchla Synthesiser). Cutting her teeth providing self-initiated electronic music projects for art galleries, experimental film directors, pop record producers and proto-video nasties Suzanne soon located to New York where she quickly became the first point of call for electronic music services in both the underground experimental fields and the commercial advertising worlds alike. Counting names like Vangelis and Harald Bode amongst her close friends Suzanne and her Ciani Musica companybecame the testing ground for virtually any type of new developments in electronic and computerized music amassing an expansive vault of commercially unexposed electronic experiments which have remained untouched for over 30 years... until now.

Finders Keepers Records are happy to announce a new creative archive based relationship with Suzanne Ciani, a very unique and celebrated experimental composer in her own right, who, as one of the very few female composers in the field (Save Chicago's Laurie Spiegel, Italy's Doris Norton, and a post-op Walter Wendy Carlos) turned a hugely significant wheel behind-the-screens of many early computerised music modules throughout the 1980s dating back to her formative years studying at Stanford's Artificial Intelligence Labs in the early 70s. Suzanne Ciani's detailed and academic approach to music and electronics coupled with an impeccable sense of timing and melody (and a good sense of humour) shines throughout this new collection of previously unreleased recordings. Lixiviation complies and recontextualises both secret music and commercial experiments of Suzanne Ciani made for microcosmic time slots and never previously documented on vinyl or CD. This is the first sneak peek of the early Ciani metal music and non-pop that later went on see her nominated for multiple Grammy awards for her later achievements which brought synthesiser music to the new age movement.

Collection of recordings by the Italian sound and concrete poet Arrigo Lora-Totino (1928-2016). His place in the history and development of poetical intermedia is undisputed.

This LP holds fourteen voice-based tape works made from the years 1968 to 2000. While there is some use of cut-up tape manipulation, the artistry truly lies in his performance of the sound plays. Multi-tracking is utilized and Arrigo's nebulous voice paintings splat and click and glide. His bold expression is inspiring to me: it leads by example in encouraging the pulling of oneself further into their art.

I was staying at a hotel in San Francisco when I awoke in a sunfilled room to an email from Giovanni Fontana telling me that Arrigo had passed away. I was saddened by the departure of such a creative man, yet proud to be working with and perpetuating his legacy.

Scarce edition of 310 LPs on black wax/white poly-lined sleeves. Incl. 16-page pamphlet with score excerpts, artwork, & program notes written by Totino, and an essay written by Giovanni Fontana

Fred Helliwell - Industrial Folklore Tapes Volume Two: Springs

Stitched booklet, pressed coiled spring, gatefold, ltd. to 250 copies., incl. mp3

This second edition in the new Industrial Folklore series from Folklore Tapes is a sub-series exploring the hidden industries and workshops of clog makers, saddlers, quarrymen, dry-stone wallers, cotton mills and spring makers.
This record commemorates the veiled labour and voice of the spring. The first side reveals the workshop of B.P.S Springs, featuring the men and the machines that have inhabited the space for thirty eight years. The second side is a soundscape of tones from over ninety collected helical springs, handmade at B.P.S workshop and mounted in a circular arrangement atop a piece of wood, amplified and either plucked or oscillated with a motor.
Simple non-coiled springs were used throughout human history, e.g. the bow (and arrow), even the bend in a tree branch. In the Bronze Age more sophisticated spring devices were used, as shown by the spread of tweezers in many cultures. Coiled springs appeared in door locks early in the fifteenth century. The first spring powered clocks also appeared in the fifteenth century and evolved into the first large watches by the sixteenth century. In the eighteenth century, the Industrial Revolution spurred the development of mass production techniques for making springs. In popular culture both the slinky and the magic roundabout gave the spring an exciting dimension for children and adults alike. Spring reverbs have been used in music from the mid-twentieth century and who doesn't recall the sound of a bed spring popping right by your ear in the dead of night
B.P.S Springs Ltd. in Rochdale, Lancashire have been making every type of spring (torsion, compression, coiled, extension, flat) for cars, beds, boats, pegs, pens, lamps, trampolines, staplers, computer keys and more for the past thirty eight years. Named after and run by three friends, Bud, Pete and Sam, B.P.S will close for business, fittingly at the end of spring 2017. Fred Helliwell stumbled upon the workshop by accident and was struck by the everyday significance of the place and between the voice of the spring and the voice of the people who make them. After speaking with the spring makers and discovering their imminent retirement it seemed fitting to create oral and photographic documentation as a lasting commemoration to the hidden hands that have been at the helm of Rochdale's industry since the decline of textile production in the area.
The first side of the ten inch record captures the atmosphere of a day in the life of the spring workshop, with lathe cutters, croppers, grinders and the telephone ringing amongst spoken accounts from Lancashire spring makers Bud, Pete and Sam. The second side features a hand-built sculpture clock (symbolising the clock of labour) and utilises many of the springs collected from B.P.S, played percussively and plucked with oscillations produced by a motor, echoing the rhythms of the machines in the workshop. The 'spring clock' is played in clockwise rotation in an improvised soundscape, with the steel vibrations often producing incidental atonal harmonies that resonate and shimmer. Each spring has its own identity, its own unique signature of sound.
Part documentary and part sound meditation, 'Springs' acknowledges the hidden labour of B.P.S Springs and explores the vast tonal range of the common metal spring, elevating the significance of an everyday object used so much, yet often taken for granted.
'Springs' is a limited edition ten inch record bound within a gatefold sleeve with a hand stitched booklet containing dozens of black and white photographs of the inside of the workshop, along with notes and drawings by Fred Helliwell. A pressed spring is included with each of the 250 hand numbered editions of the record.

Myra Davies / Beate Bartel / Gudrun Gut - Sirens

"SIRENS" - the new album from Canadian Spoken Word poet MYRA DAVIES with music by Berliners GUDRUN GUT and BEATE BARTEL.

Myra Davies is back with a new packet of witty stories and poetic reportage in a dynamic current of electronica by Berliners, Gudrun Gut and Beate Bartel. Movement is a major theme. Davies' eye, insightful yet detached, wanders assertively over land to sea to outer space, through time, past to present to future. Her observations and reflections on art, culture, convention, capitalism, express instability, the contingent even conjectural nature of existence. Yet they suggest (without promising) the possibility of optimistic resolution. For Davies, the personal is political and Art is more so.

The album includes a three-track riposte to Götterdammerung, the final opera in Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle. Two tracks tell the story. The third (DO YA) links the epic to us. Wagner was called 'the great seducer' because he aimed to 'take' his audience in an emotional gut grab that's been described as 'artistic rape'. No invitation here to sink hypnotically into the dark ambient tones Gut and Bartel provide for Davies, who in telling the story frequently pops out of it to comment. Indeed, the point of revisiting this End Time for Übermenschen is to draw attention to the eagerness with which we give ourselves to art, politics, love, war, consumption, work, religion, pop culture, technology, vanity, and thus to bondage. Fortunately, the message is delivered in a tempestuous roil of words and music, i.e. — seductively.

MYRA DAVIES: A personal Note: The word 'siren' contains both allure and danger warning. Come hither. Stay away. Such isometric emotional dualities can drive a person around a post like a work donkey. I question such 'native' impulses and the Romantic notion that emotion is the seat of authenticity, our true core. Our minds - amygdala included - are colonised. Yet the human brain is flexible. It's possible to take territory, to write our own code. 'Your mission, if you choose to accept it'. Thanks for listening.

Madteo - Confessions Of A Permanent Alien Opium Beater

1

Somewhere between a Dadaistic mixtape, a surreal audio collage sourced from his record collection, and sporadic interjections from his own storehouse of outlandish and intriguing productions, this 79-minute journey reveals Madteo's freewheeling rigor in the studio. Prone to glitching, rhythmic ruptures, and end-times bass frequencies, Confessions surfs quark-infested waters with hallucinogenic logic. Fragmentation rules everything around Madteo. You will hear — among other things — Adderall-addled raps subsumed by mutant techno, radio ads for trance-blues masters Canned Heat, riveting noise-techno merging into lopsided hiphop reminiscent of Jan Jelinek's Exposures project, the passionate folk balladry of Lucio Battisti, the glittery soul of Billy Preston, and some of the coldest and oddest electro funk ever. Throughout, Madteo flaunts baffling, unprecedented sounds arranged in confounding configurations. Confessions of a Permanent Alien Opium Beater is another crucial piece of a discography from one of music's most fascinating enigmas, a celestial lysergic jukebox that conjures new pleasures and deeper mysteries with each listen.

Hecker - A Script For Machine Synthesis

The latest work from Florian Hecker A Script for Machine Synthesis is an experimental auditory drama and a model of abstraction. A Script for Machine Synthesis presents a complex simplicity that spirals in an unending manner as an audio image of the uncanny valley. It is the third chapter in the trilogy of text-sound pieces Hecker has collaborated with the philosopher Reza Negarestani. A resynthesized voice outlines procedure as procedure itself unfolds.

The suggestive encounter with a pink ice cube is a conceptual point of departure for a scene in which linguistic chimeras of descriptors are materialized through synthetic trophies, mental props and auditory objects.

Hecker presents a synthesis of the gap in the valley which we almost know. The motifs Hecker has staged in the last decade, the text, the sound, the scent, the obelisk, the demon, the self, the other all appear throughout in a thorough, rigid and formal exploration.

Exeunt all human actors, A Script for Machine Synthesis is an experiment in putting synthetic emptiness back into synthetic thought.

I Roam the Cosmos. I visit a Planet now and then My visits are so seldom that sometimes The people on the Planet forget who I am Whenever that happens, I have no choice But to make them remember.

And since so many men have roamed this Planet Saying so many things that never proved of worth To the Planet I will have to do what I don't want to do I will have to impress upon Every man, woman, and child upon this Planet Who I am So that they will NEVER forget who I am.

All the people are asleep There is no one to give me the glory I deserve See the splendours of my Universe I made it with my very own hands.

You think because my Universe is so big that you are of no importance to me You thought I had forsaken you If I did, why am I here now

The Sun is your very best friend Greets you every morning, "Hello, my friends" Bids you goodbye every night "Goodbye, my friends, see you in the morning."

The Sun is your very best servant Serving you day and night The Sun never sleeps The Sun never sleeps.

The Universe sent me to converse with you But how can I talk to every man, woman, and child At the same time

I, because of the majesty upon Planet Earth, Must ask the volcanoes of Earth to speak of my glory I must ask the winds of Earth to speak of my glory I must ask the Earth itself to quake and tremble.

At my presence upon the Earth must ask the Earth to change its orbits And its journey among the Stars So that it can change the destiny of every person Upon this Planet.

I must nullify astrology I must nullify all prophecies I must create a different kind of World That is more suitable for me That I might visit this Planet, and feel at home.

Im Namen Des Volkes - Aus Den Anti-imperialistischen Tagebuachern

Peripheral Minimal is proud to announce the forthcoming album, 'Aus Den Anti-Imperialistischen Tagebu¨chern', by In Namen Des Volkes.

INDV is the brainchild of Hamburg resident Matthias Schuster (also of Bal Pare, Das Institut,Geisterfahrer and others), and creates a more heavy-weight style of Minimal Synth in the spirit of D.A.F., or even early Front 242. The tracks were taken directly off cassettes and reworked with added vocals, whilst maintaining the original 80s recording techniques of 4-track and purely analogue instrumentation, strictly no plug-ins or digitalism here!

Matthias has been actively producing complex synthetic sounds since the late 1970s, having released seminal albums and singles on respected labels such as, Plastic Frog, Minimal Wave and Medical Records. His passion for all things analogue seems to be irrepressible, devoting a considerable amount of time to myriad projects each with their own unique qualities and sonics. He musically switches from Neue Deutsche Welle stylings, to Minimal Synth and proto-EBM with great dexterity and a rare continuing dedication.

The album is presented in a luxurious digipak and limited to 300 copies. Recorded between 1980 - 2015. Artwork by Kilgore Trout.

Dale Cornish & Phil Julian - Laughing Out

Composed and performed by top pop duo Dale Cornish and Phil Julian. Dale Cornish: vocals, words, electronics (B1 and B2). Phil Julian: electronics. Mastered by that Phil Julian. Cut by Jason Goz, London, February 2016. Screenprint of a legendary double-act by Lukas Julius Keijser.

Three tracks which emerged from a rehearsal session in an oddly decorated room in South Croydon.

"Laughing Out" is the duo's sing-along summer anthem and shares some DNA with "Love Can't Turn Around" as re-imagined/destroyed by a middle-aged balding chap with a deep distrust of the dancefloor.

"For Vocal" appears to be a recording of people moving pallets of ride cymbals wrapped in tin-foil around a warehouse but it's hard to say, really. Almost certainly important.

"Palazzo" = a computer minding its own academic business + some curmudgeonly American test equipment + some honeypot crooning = not a dry seat in the house.

THE SOUND OF YOUNG CROYDON

Dale Cornish: born, raised and current of London (south). Previously in No Bra (2004-6): co-wrote unexpected hit "Munchausen". Terse humour and observations/worldly interests further evident with work of ecstatic noise trio Baraclough (2006-2012). Current focus is on solo recordings for labels including Entr'acte, The Tapeworm and Beartown Records, and collaborations with artists including Adam Asnan, Andie Brown, Powell and Phil Julian.

Phil Julian is a UK based composer and improviser active since the late 90s principally working with modular electronic devices and computers. Releases have appeared on labels including Entr'acte, Harbinger Sound, The Tapeworm and Beartown Records. Recent collaborations on recordings and performances with Dale Cornish, John Macedo, Kostis Kilymis, Jason Kahn and Angharad Davies. Regular live performances since 2004 in the UK, Europe and North America.

"Don't you worry about your hearing" - Bergen, 2005 "Was great, like being eaten by a tiny insect...;" - Berlin, 2008 "We need you to play some music...;" - London, 2010
