Mickey Pearce is back in business with 'One Hundred Smiles', a new album of swaggering UK club music experimentations, and a new label Box Of Toys.

His first album, 'Michael' (2016), saw him exploring new territory; crafting a strange and melancholic landscape of beatless textures and leftfield house and techno. Approached with a fresh perspective, 'One Hundred Smiles' slows the tempo and ups the collaboration.

'The last record was a reflection of my situation around that time. This one is like stepping out from under a cloud. It's about the joy of collaboration; meeting and working with new people. It's also about the ambiguity of smiles, and the complicated relationships we form.'

The album features appearances from rising UK talent Poté, Taiwanese vocalist Meuko Meuko and Greek electronic pioneer Lena Platonos.

'Poté is a crazy talent. We've done a bunch of sessions and made a load of tracks, two of which ended up here and one of which is going on his next record.

Meuko Meuko is an artist from Taiwan. We communicate entirely via Instagram. She'd send me translations of the lyrics in Instagram messages, but I'm still not sure if I've chopped them into any sort of sense. The instrumental was called 'Slime', and she misread that intentionally or unintentionally to mean 'smile' and sent me all these crazy lines about 'your lovely smile' and it was just perfect. I love her.

Lena Platonos is a legend, and someone I was honoured to work with. The day she told me she had been playing and enjoying the record around her friends was a good day.'

'One Hundred Smiles' is the first release on his own label Box Of Toys. The label is named the same as his 2017-2018 radio show series, which featured the album's guests as well as Randomer, Machine Woman, Airhead, The Maghreban and Object Blue.

'One Hundred Smiles' is released on LP and digital via Box Of Toys on 2nd November 2018.

After scrawling his name on releases with close affiliates PRR! PRR! and for the Mannequin and Unknown Precept labels, new Brussels transplant Mazzocchetti finds good company among the
oddballs on Editions Gravats for 'Gag Flag''s blend of avant dance music and absurdist experimental pop.
For 'Gag Flag' Mazzocchetti adopts the persona of 'Snippet Boy', a fictional avatar who first came to life in his live shows, and now in hyperstitious manifestation on the album sleeve. Lurking behind this persona, Mazzocchetti becomes an art-dance-pop puppeteer who yanks listener's strings and takes popshots at industry overproduction, deflating egotism and hackneyed convention in a way that echoes the subversive approach of his heroes such as Devo and The Residents.Using a blend of plugged in and acoustic instruments, Mazzocchetti conjures nine psychedelically
misshapen and inexorably funked-up grooves, splashing from the lysergic swagger of 'Looking For Cheese' to the Arabian electro-acid styles of 'How To Hate You Without H' via the lap-steel dancehall slosh of 'Ron's Roof', demented yacht-boogie in 'Fonk Left The Ytown', and what sounds like Depeche Mode doing knackered EBM on 'Sultan 1997'.
This is the sound of an artist unafraid to pursue their own sound and really coming into their own, albeit channelled thru a deflated, winking rubber avatar.

This album, as the title would suggest, is two (wall breaking and out there) artists/producers coming together - Youth: highly respected music producer, sonic pioneer and founder & bassist of Killing Joke and Gaudi: international dance floor rocker and maverick producer of note. Two bass leviathans duelling their way through sci-fi, psychedelic dub space ....and the resulting album is truly a lesson in synergy.

Astronaut Alchemists was made the purists way; the album was recorded over two years, each session was done together in the studio, face to bass, heating the metal of inspiration and pouring and shaping it as it flowed. As Gaudi said of the recording process, 'something organically surfaced since the beginning of our studio sessions: the chemistry. Chemistry is vital when you work in the studio with another artist, it's that magic thing that you can't really study'. It's amazing, with the schedule that they both keep, that it only took 2 years to coordinate the required studio sessions! The album features Youth on bass, Gaudi on Keyboards and they are both responsible for programming and production. The album was engineered and mastered by Jamie Grashion (AKA Cosmic Trigger) and will be released by Liquid Sound Design.

Astronaut Alchemists is true to its name ...an alchemical showcase of spacious dimensions, a masterclass in weaving it up right and keeping it tight...signatures and sounds from both artists, transmuted by each other into something new and of absolute and unhackneyed grooviness -

Here at Broken Audio we always strive to find innovative ways of offering quality music. Our recent Musical Currency USB Credit Card albums were received with widespread acclaim, flying off the shelves and setting the tone for us offering some substance to what can often seem a faceless digital music world.
But we now look to raise the bar even higher with our latest concept...'Project Mohawk' started out as a codename for a collection of tracks we'd signed from a select group of talented emerging artists, each with their own distinct sound and style of production. As the idea took shape, so the quantity and quality of the music grew, culminating in a commitment to nine separate EP releases. From that point forth our aim was to come up with a twist whereby each release could stand out in its own right, but also form a part of something bigger...
So along with the usual digital download components, each release will have its own limited edition lathe cut 10' vinyl dubplate featuring our two favourite tracks, lovingly presented in a hand made and numbered 'jigsaw of art' card sleeve. Collect all 9 dubplates and arrange the sleeves in a certain order to solve the puzzle and reveal a single larger image.

"From the mists of time of the rave scene comes an old white label dance classic by the Temple of Life - Spencer ee, Flying Doctor Cee, Robin ee and TMS1.

The 'Look at Their Eyes it's Ecstasy' sample are the dulcet tones of Robin ee, and an original performance not a sample. By 1989 we were all locked into Centre Force FM 88.3 along with a host of other illegal pirate stations, including our own Dance Zone FM. Our first live gig as Temple of Life live gig was at Pitsea Leisure Centre in Essex called Time Zone. Around 1990 the next gig Time Zone 2 was at the Civic Hall, Grays in Essex with a 10K rig.

The tracks on the EDP EP were recorded in the loft space studio via an Atari ST, Casio FZ1, Electronic Dream Plant Synth, Roland 202, TB303, and some beat loops and TMS1 on the Technics 1210's.

This was our one and only release on vinyl, now repressed and remastered. We lived and breathed this scene.....aah the halcyon daze of dancing through the whole night to sunrise and beyond."

US production duo Alter Echo & E3 have linked up with Bristol's Ishan Sound to create an awe- inspiring warrior stance anthem. Ah Mi Guide features a hypnotic sample from Rider Shafique, over an unrelenting beat crafted by E3 and Ishan then mixed in dub by Alter Echo. The flipside remix comes via ascendant dubstep producer Egoless, who transforms the stark original into a slow burning fire, garnished with a flourishing flute refrain. Either side is guaranteed to shake up and mesmerise a dance!

One of the most eagerly anticipated albums of the year, Alpha Steppa Meets Nai-Jah 'The Great Elephant'. TGE is the product of a year-long collaboration between renowned UK Dub Reggae producer Alpha Steppa and French-Nigerian singer / songwriter Nai-Jah. INIT's music has the rare quality of transforming bleakness into a soothing experience. In the duo's new EP, 'Wildcard', this mechanism is more intense than ever. And that might be because of the particular circumstances that surrounded its inception. Two years ago, Nadia D'Alo and Benedikt Frey decided to move from Darmstadt to Berlin. Adjusting to a rough area of a big city when coming from a quiet town necessarily brings a change of perspective. For Nadia and Benedikt, that meant experiencing the city life as outsiders while trying to figure out what they wanted from it.'Wildcard' is the sonic result of this process, and proof that changes always bring growth. Recorded in their new home studio during winter, the six tracks on the EP are as haunting as their previous LP for Hivern, but with a rawer approach and enhanced power. Take 'Cover' and 'Solver', an approximation to the kind of moody psych-techno they display in their live-shows and two of the most dance floor oriented tracks INIT have recorded to date. But it's the title track which best expresses the mindset of this work. With its skeletal rattle and undulating synths, 'Wildcard' feels as desolate as a Berlin street in a winter night, but possesses the kind of focus that turns uncertainty into hope. In a similar way, cuts such as 'Copycat' or 'Half Baked' perfectly capture the sort of estrangement -daunting yet hopeful- that comes when moving into a new place, with its slow tempos mirroring the cautious pace of a foreigner and the intoxicated atmospheres calmly distilling the essence of a new environment. Nadia and Benedikt describe this new habitat as small kids on big bikes, eating dry instant noodles, playing with what's to find on the streets, static aircraft traffic closely over our heads and constant running engines. Listening to the music that arose from it, it's obvious that, once again, they've been able to overturn apparently hostile elements into a place were you'd want to stay forever. The 12" comes housed in a sleeve designed by Xavier Marin.

In the latest release from Public System Recordings we are allowed a look further into the syrupy synth dripping slowed beatdown. Kluentah delivers a chalky electro smash with elongated snares and eerie chords passing from one end of the brain to the other, and to the floor. There is smooth vocal play as well as allowing for incoherent out of context speech samples that stab through minimal jumpy drum work. As diabolical and heavy as the hits and bass is, this enters the swath of dance floor records with a distinct flavor that sets itself above others' execution. Full of sludgy breaks, there is a constant reduction even as sounds and samples are introduced, they enter the roving mulch in a stylish slide.

The Ohmgrown series is about more music and less industry. Its Dub Phizix' way of getting his ideas to people in the fastest way possible.

The entire process- sound design, writing, mixing, mastering will be done in-house by Dub Phizix, as are the visual elements to accompany the music.

There will be no set sound or aesthetic to the series instead the focus is on giving people a window into where he's at musically and what is inspiring him at the time of creation.

Hugo Massien returns to E-Beamz to complete his hat-trick of releases. This time out he brings arguably his most explorative and refined work to date.

Following the dubwise dancehall versions in Muslimgauze style & fashion from E3 & Alter Echo, off-centre dancehall with pop sensibilities from Young Echo's O$VMV$M & Rider Shafique and Firehouse-era digital dancehall killers from London's Mosca, LavaLava now returns with a record of ruffneck acid-tinged dancehall punk.

Naples very own NPLGNN is at the controls this time along, following his appearances on Boomkat's Reel Torque, 'Where To Now' and of course the newly minted Forever Now imprint with partner in crime Dave Saved.

Hardcore dancehall at it's best, NPLGNN calls for soundsystem frenzy straight from the start with Weaponized Riddim, ringing off de-tuned tones that swerve and duck around aggro hi-hats, devastating kick drums and of course the acid line that works it's way in during play.
Things get a little more heads down with 'Dancing Under CS' although that is not to say there is a dip in energy... This one still thumps in a very tough way, it's just a more guttural affair, mainly made up of chunks of bass and kick drum, with bursts of high frequency disrupting the whirlwind like lightning to a dark sky, not far off from the mechanised bogle we love about Tiger's infamous 'Rap Pon Rydim'.
Last but not least, Sonic Guerilla, the all out, gunshot acid splurge that licks the final nail in the coffin for all soundbwoy who try test.

True to the core principles of sound system music, transporting the beloved 'old school' feel into the very present of the 21st century - 'Dreader Than Dread' envelops eerie spheres of ghastly dub sirens and warbled tape echoes, as the vocal chant jolts the arrangement into unwieldy sub emissions. Artilect's varied musical background is one of the primary reasons why his production is so coveted throughout the back catalogue of the labels he's released on. Beginning his career in Manchester during the mid 90s, his love of breakbeats lead him into the world of hardcore and jungle, where his appreciation of electronic music grew year by year, whether that was the sounds of Detroit or Acid Techno. Having supported artists like the legendary Marcus Intalex at Guidance, his part in the Northern collective Audiosalad helped promote his finely honed craft to a more widespread audience. And now he joins the roster of Horizons Music, an imprint who strives to only deliver the most cutting-edge records from the underground; it seemed like the perfect home for an artist who has only offered the same standard with every track he's released. And the 'Black Fire' EP is no different, with its full spectrum look at the influences which have enabled Artilect to reach this monumental stage in his career.* Title-track 'Black Fire' is chaotic with its swathes of crashing percussion; its impact gains more and more momentum as it gradually builds and crashes along its finely-chiselled bassline. 'Hoax' has the same old-school feel, paying homage to the producer's roots whilst he flexes his ability to create hard-lined breaks which crash against the record's firing drum sequences.
