Persian & Dj Texsta - Dangerous Remastered And Remixed

Existence is Resistance are pleased to announce the remastered re-release of Same People's legendary proto-garage classic 'Dangerous'.
Lovingly remastered at AIR studios in London by the master masterer Matt Colton and featuring remixes by two of the originators of the
scene, 'Persian and DJ Texsta' who both have long and rich histories in the Drum and Bass, UK Garage and House scenes. Rounding
off the package is long time friend and cohort Nick Dunton of 65D Mavericks and Surface Records fame dropping in from the techno
scene with his jazzed out liquid mix.

It's been 17 years since Dangerous was first released on the 'Same People' record label. It went on to have a huge influence on the fledgling Dubstep/Grime scene with its heady mixture of rolling basslines, ragga influences and fat beats that many an MC were eager to rhyme over.

The Original mix was written on the Commodore Amiga with only 2 megabytes at it's disposal, proving that a million dollar studio isn't
necessary to create timeless records. Dangerous quickly blew up on the emerging UK Garage circuit immediately after the very first
run of white labels, which were delivered by hand to the then vibrant record stores dotted throughout London, and went on to make
appearances on over 30 different compilations along the way. The original white label mix is now available for the very first time in 17
years, remastered and remixed on limited vinyl for your listening pleasure.

Persian's 2012 re-fix updates the original beautifully, with some of the heaviest bass you could wish to hear on a rig, whilst delicately
balancing glorious detroit tinged strings and rolling drums. DJ Texsta's mix is a solid peak time UK funky / post dubstep classic in the
making - all swirling effects, vocal samples and of course the all important bass! Nick Dunton's liquid mix harks back to the early
90's with lush strings, a wonderfully chopped up break, jazzy keys and a super low frequency bass that hint to influences from
Carl Craig to Bukem and beyond.

With all the mixes receiving heavy rotation amongst the main players across scenes, this is vintage stuff, repackaged, and remixed for 2012....

Dont sleep on this !

Ital Tek - Nebula Dance

Ital Tek

Nebula Dance

12inchZIQ325LP
Planet Mu Records
23.10.2012

Ital Tek's new album is really quite different from his previous releases. Alan Myson is entering a new phase, of which last year's 'Gonga' EP was the first step. The music here works at higher speeds than the dubstep and hip hop tempos he has used in the past, and explores more fully the dynamic tensions between space and detail, melody and atmospheric sound than his previous releases. 'Nebula Dance' assimilates the influences of current music being made at the speeds between 140 to 160 bpm, reacting to develpoments in dubstep, jungle and more recently footwork, retraining Ital Tek's instinct for deep and melodic music with an emphasis on dramatic drum work and impressionistic synths with restrained precision. Opener and title track 'Nebula Dance' sets the scene, playing with melodic timestretched breakbeats and smashing snares with a distinctly early jungle atmosphere, reminiscent of Rufige Kru's early breakbeat experiments, but retooled for the footwork generation. 'Pixel Haze' messes with lush, swirling 8-bit arpeggios over cracking kicks and snapping snares, building into a dense rushing atmosphere with held chords. 'Dusk Beat' is all Rhodes-like with relaxing atmospheric synths over soft footwork toms, keeping the pressure up with and tight fills and edits. 'Intercruise' cools things down with a half-speed hip hop feel, the synths and voices swelling and pulsing like Art Of Noise's 'Moment's In Love'. 'Steel Sky' is a slow, molten-sounding track, made of thunderous claps, viscous chords and warping subs, all creating a dense and moody atmosphere. 'Glokk' takes things up a notch again, running bell melodies and dubbed out vocals against rapid-fire synth stabs and rolling drums, leading into the similar but more spacious territory of the warm, airy 'Solar Sail'. 'In Motion' takes things into leaner darker techno territory, with tight 808 edits and basic channel style gaseous chord stabs over a bed of monolithic sub bass creating what is probably the most 'dancefloor' track on the album. 'Discontinuum' builds up an airy ambient atmosphere with crashing wave-like field recordings, relying on a single high speed tom to keep pace before crashing into 'Human Version' with its bittersweet melody and sense of urgency. 'Yesterday Tomorrow Today' closes the album with bass trills and feather-like synths slowly bringing us back down to earth.

Morgan Zarate Ft Stevie Neale - Broken Heart Collector Ep

Morgan Zarate's second release for Hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. He's been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group Spacek and also currently as one half of The Shining, signed to XL Records, but with 'Broken Heart Collector' he's made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer Stevie Neale on vocals. Stevie warns of a guy who is the titular 'Broken Heart Collector'. Her RnB vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. It's a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. There is also an instrumental included as well. The third track is 'Crey Bey', an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. It shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

Boys Noize - Out Of The Black

Alex Ridha—better known to the world as BOYS NOIZE—has been making electronic music and working as a DJ for over half of his life, which is no small feat considering that Ridha is currently only 29 years old. As a DJ, Ridha has established himself as one of the world's preeminent wizards behind the DJ decks, having played some of the world's biggest stages alongside some of the biggest names in dance music. As a recording artist and a producer, Ridha has created his own sound, and pioneered his own brand, amassing a formidable body of work in the process. He has released two albums (2007's Oi Oi Oi and 2009's Power) and countless singles as Boys Noize, as well as doing profoundly influential work as a remixer and a producer for everyone from Depeche Mode, Feist, Daft Punk to David Lynch and Jarvis Cocker. He has also collaborated extensively with Erol Alkan and Mr. Oizo (on a project called Handbraekes).
As for the title of his new record, Ridha explains that this music isn't coming from out of the blue. In fact, it's the opposite. 'I tend to make and produce music only at night,' he says. 'I also generally only perform at night, so this is music that's coming totally out of the black. Also, they say the color black can absorb all other colors, which is a cool way to think about making music. You absorb every other kind of music—every possible sound—and what comes out of you is something new, something out of the black.

Kromestar & J5ive - Knowledge Ep

For all of you that remember, Kromestar was the first ever artist to release on DEEP MEDi with his game changing 'Kalawanji'. After a five year hiatus from the label Kromestar returns with help from Anti Social crew member Jay 5ive.
Kromestar & Jay 5ive have been busy collaborating on their own label 'Bass & Love' over the last year and it was these collaborations passed to Mala by Kromestar & Jay 5ive which brought about the release. This four track EP showcases the diverse spectrum and energy that is created when these two producers clash in the studio. All four tracks are laced with a heavy dose of intergalactic herb especially the opener 'Clearly Distorted' with it's wonky kick and rumbling bass, followed up by the deep laidback grooves on 'Try Harder', the hypnotic live double bass on 'Words' and the wall of sub that hits
you hard on 'Mind Pattern', Pure vibes!

Distance - Troubles

Distance

Troubles

12inchGDKR006
Get Darker
01.10.2012

Rugged/Troubles is a double A that lives up to its name in every way. If we wrote clichéd press releases we'd say the release 'does
what it says on the tin' but GetDarker don't deal in hackneyed, meaningless sayings, we deal in undiluted, speaker-banging platters.
And they don't bang much harder than this pair of purist party-starters.
Troubles follows. In more ways than one. The second these eerie, haunting pads and spacious, slurring beats creep out of your
speakers you know this will rattle cages, ruffle feathers and give anyone within a three mile radius a royal kick up the booty. As with
all Distance dishes, the bass is the main chat up line, but you could argue the real star of the show is the kick drum. Taking a less-is-
more approach, the energy is sprung from the fills as the kick spits out a brief 4/4 before we dive deep into bass hyperspace where
another sublime riff works its simplistic charms amidst the mix, endlessly mutating with hypnotic glee.
Halfstep heavyweightism; Rugged sets the pace with alarming funk and menace. A robust riff and sharp percussion tease the ears as
the bottom end reflects the melody, snarling its way slowly but surely into the mix. A tripped out echo effect breaks the formalities as
we drop into the main musical meal. Mechanical and mischievous, the melody's simple-but-effective Q&A rolls and evolves as new
percussive elements eke their way in before Distance casually strips everything back in preparation for a swift breakdown and a
developed drop. Naturally it's all about the bass; not dissimilar to the same powerful dynamic flavour favoured by neuro D&B
producers, its full body pressure packs enough to punch to cause numerous rewinds.
Two massive underground tracks delivered with respect to the genre's most classic, traditional techniques. In a scene awash with
imitation, this is no mean feat. But in the hands of Distance, a man who's manipulated soaring sawtooths and hammering halfsteps
for nearly an entire decade, we'd expect nothing less.

Intrusive Incidentalz Volume 2 is the concluding part of Ekoplekz's collection of dark, oppressive atmospheres and violently unstable interludes, inspired by childhood memories of terrifying electronic soundtrack music from the 1970s. Developed through studio improvisation and channelling a sense of dread informed by the social, economic and political climate of
life in 2012, Ekoplekz has delivered some of his finest, most vivid work to date. A bleak retro-futurist fantasy, or oblique soundtrack for a broken Britain The truth probably lies somewhere between the two.

Submotion Orchestra - Fragments

On October 8 London/Leeds-based seven piece Submotion Orchestra release their eagerly anticipated second album 'Fragments'.
Bass, rhythm and soul are still paramount, but from the first few bars of 'Intro', with it's Philip Glass-meets Penguin Cafe pianos, it's clearly evident that the band have broadened their musical palate. It's also also clear they've made this expansion sound effortlessly captivating - ready to melt minds and bassbins alike.
"In making 'Fragments', we started to stretch out from the template of the first album", explains keyboardist Taz Modi. "There's a lot more colour and moods on this record; strings, woodwind and various new synth textures. We followed our noses to see where they'd lead us. There should be enough here to satisfy fans of 'Finest Hour', but hopefully there'll be quite a bit to surprise them as well...;"

Special 12” featuring new versions of the track Fa, taken from the debut Fennesz solo album ‘Hotel Paral.lel’ (1997). 15 years after its initial release, Christian Fennesz gives this throbbing monster of a track a new seeing to, extending it and adding more of that magic he is so well known for. The album was always an exercise in exploring alternate means of hearing club based music. This new version carries that concept further.

This is backed by a cracking new mix by the ever productive Mark Fell, adding his unique beat structures, and even a MLK sample, which lends his contemporary rhythmic landscape a odd nostalgic twist.

This 12” can be seen as a warm up for the new Fennesz album, which is currently scheduled for 2013 release.

Terror Danjah - The Dark Crawler

Terror Danjah's second Hyperdub album is 'The Dark Crawler', a well-paced and much more upfront and energetic journey through his musical world than his debut 'Undeniable'. The album revolves around the 'Dark Crawler' theme, a blistering grime track that pops up several times, vocaled by MC's Riko Dan, Mayhem, Deadly and Saf One, and then lastly Trim and Kossie. That's not to say the album is one dimensional or relentless. It's subtley balanced with the 'Dark Crawler' thread of tracks allowing the album to spin off in a web of directions without losing any focus. It's a much more contained body of work, paced to keep the listeners interest. From the 'Dark Crawler' intro into the cartoonish horror soundtrack of 'Mirror's Edge', which tricks you into thinking its just any dubstep tune, before scattering into Terror's signature broken kicks and claps. 'Dark Gremlinz' featuring D.O.K. is a classic peak-era asymmetric grime instrumental. The album then drops down into the 130ish speed of 'Air Max 90' featuring Champion, which builds from a soca-like drum drill stretching the rhythm to the point of collapse with a wonky synth, before concluding on a driving baseline house 4/4. The first 'Dark Crawler' vocal is next, with a ferocious performance from veteran Roll Deep MC Riko Dan, who drops bloodthirsty threats at a breakneck pace. Next, the tempo drops down again to the drunk funk of 'Full Hundred', with criss cross claps and a rasping bassline breaking down into live drumming and tight trap door edits. Things speed up a little again with the intricate 8 bar funky of 'Rum Punch', a hard drum tattoo rolling out over a heavy detuned bassline and intense bleeps. On the second 'Dark Crawler', mic duties are shared by Birmingham MC's Mayhem , Deadly and Saf One. Their hard vocals contrast with lush styled R'n'B of 'You Make Me Feel' featuring Meleka. The album then rolls out into the galloping drums and smooth G-Funk synths of 'Baby Oil'. Trim and Kossie drop the final 'Dark Crawler' vocal, with Trim dropping deadpan threats contesting with Kossie's focussed hysteria. Next up 'Delicately', with Ruby Lee Rider, starts in slow motion R'n'B mood, sweet Rhodes chords drift and bubble up as the track doubles up into dreamy drum and bass with a fluttering tabla keeping the time, and Ruby's tender vocals tempering the pace and aggression. Overall, it's a brilliant exercise in breathless rhythmic arousal. 'Moschino', on the other hand is a darker, chunkier and grimier mirror image to 'Delicately', switching up into a ferocious metallic riffage, before the album closes on an outro of 'Dark Crawler' again. Form, function, energy and talent fuse perfectly over 'The Dark Crawler' s length. Enjoy the ride.
