'Bury Dem' marries a lurching 140-ish dub-hop riddim to a buzzing analog bassline, 8-bit skanks, haunting melodica - pure propulsive nod-factor dubwise, a molasses-soaked, ganja-infused confection that sounds like Lee Perry busting out some chopped & screwed. Titus 12 shows that an 'eyes-down' tune needn't be dark or bitter.

'Everyone Should (Wake Me Up)' simply has to be skanked to to be grasped. Like the Skatalites with Todd Edwards on vocal duties, Madlib on the MPC and Zomby on bass, this one is for the 2-Tone 2-Step revival that is already in full swing on some glorious alternate Earth. Staying true to it's half decade strong objective of documenting next generation, cutting edge sound system music from the City of Bristol, Punch Drunk is proud to introduce newcomers Zhou for it's final chapter of 2011.As part of the Young Echo collective, alongside peers such as Kahn, Vessel and El Kid, they have forged a unique identity within the city limits as producers, collaborators and live performers.Defining their sonic vision of submerged aesthetics and low end pressure, tracks 'I Remain' and 'Noboru' comprise the duo's debut 12', delivering a tense and intoxicating odyssey into their chamber of dub.

After the well-received 'Homage To The King' album by King Yoof, the Moonshine Recordings camp proceeds with its twenty-sixth single on 12-inch wax and digital. Madplate Sound, the dub production duo originally from Turin and Bristol, is in position for its second vinyl release featuring the lyricists Jago & Galak Spiritual.

The duo's next single catalogued as 'MS026' receives both a healing remix and dub version treatment by Steppas Records' head-honcho Alpha Steppa, who has recreated two master- pieces from Madplate Sound. The way these original samples weaved through the musician's mixing desk results into a flawless dub sound.

Loyal listeners of known Moonshine Recordings content won't be surprised when they hear the original version of 'Tension': its anthemic status is derived from strong brass elements, low- pitched bass and fitting vocals from Jago and Galak Spritual. Along with the confident pace, dedicated dub mixing and peaceful sound textures, Madplate Sound allows listeners to drift off to Jah without any use of imagination.

Alpha Steppa steps up the to plate by bringing forth a more laid-back stepper for the flip side. While the Steppas Records' dub-in-chief mainly focuses on both the ultra-sonic and low-end pulses, he settles the vocals to the forefront intelligently. This way, he achieves a refined inclusion that outweighs anything you'd come to expect from the English producer on remix duty.

The dub version is even more meditative than the existing remix, notably when it propagates through a good set of speaker boxes. The singing is almost completely stripped, remaining elements are heavily delayed and the reggae riff is pushed further into space. A refined sound remains, which really forms the oculus of this gigantic dub that smoothly corresponds to everything you need to enjoy full delight in dub.

The "XY" EP marks 10 Years of prolific activity for DubKraft Records, a music label that runs under a simple motto: "Bass, Spirit, Character". X is the Roman number 10, while Y obviously stands for "Years". The two letters also represent the two sides of the vinyl record, two worlds bridged by the label, and the symbolism runs way deeper than that. The artists chosen for this very special release are some of the heavy-weights that have been most influential for DubKraft's history:
Label's honcho Alien Pimp remixes an epic collaboration between UK drum&bass legend Loxy and the international combo Marginal, titled "X". Marginal follows up with an 170bpm cyber-ballad guaranteed to stimulate empathy in artificial intelligence.
The "Y" Side of the record is fully taken by one of the most epic pieces of bass music ever created. Another drum&bass legend, this time from Russia, namely Dissident, starts with dubtech atmospheres, follows up with intricate jungle amens and for the closure lands on an ambient vibe. The six tracks on Hollygroove are articulated with an almost unmistakably American diction, yet draw heavily upon UK grime styles, existing in a double refractive flux of club music dialogue that transcends geography much like Rabit's own output.
Upfront, they rumble out the shuddering echo chamber drill menace of Lie Dormant, an aching balance between stasis and cocked tension, whilst the dank-but-dainty southern bounce of
Hollygrove nails a sort of gaunt 3-step swagger aching for an acapella, and Mjolnir sounds like a Scratchy '05 riddim sent into orbit.
Flipside, that classic grime sound is twisted back into the twinkling 8-bar dancer, Kanagawa Homicide, and Behemoth veers back to U.S./Latino club sounds, and finally Gatekeeper ascends/
descends into heavenly hellish, weightless baroque synth structure.

Bisweed (Maksim Adel) is a 23 year-old music producer and dubstep DJ from Tallinn, Estonia. Maksim's taste in music comes from several electronic music genres, jazz, soul, r&b, reggae and classical music. These genres influence and shape his dubstep production and live DJ performances. Bisweed's music has a universal appeal, whether listened on headphones, in the car, or at the club. Bisweed has produced and been an active DJ for nearly 10 years. He often performs in his native Estonia and played shows in Belarus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, and Russia. In his early years, Bisweed hosted a dubstep radio show called Kajatuba' (which translates to Echo Chamber') on Estonian Public radio. Currently, Bisweed collaborates with local and regional instrumentalists, musicians, producers, and vocalists to deliver his signature low-end focused, melodic sound. Bisweed constantly advances and fine-tunes his musical horizons, knowledge, and production. Bisweed's record bag has rare records, personal dubplates, and fresh beats from around the world. His music is often heard and played on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM, Kiss FM, and SUB.FM. Bisweed is a young man, but his music possesses maturity and sophistication beyond his age. After a fruitful couple of years collaborating with Kevin Martin, Israeli MC Miss Red finally unveils her new Red Label with a killer double A side featuring production from Mark Pritchard and The Bug.
Her Murder mixtape last year garnered lots of attention and featured riddims provided not only by Kevin Martin but also the likes of Andy Stott, and she featured on Martin's Angels & Devils album as well as collabs with Bim One Production and, just recently, Ishan Sound for the deadly Hotline label..
On Murder she meets Mark Pritchard who heats up a killer twyst of bony '90s bashment drums and slippery acid lines zig-zagged by Miss Red's playful but stinging delivery; the kind of tune that can take a room from simmering wine to air horns and daggering stares in a flash.
No Guns is produced by The Bug and is much more spooked out and psychotic, with Miss Red filtered thru a salivating 16th note industrial bass arpeggio and feral, rasping drums for hand-to-hand, body-to-body combat in the dance, weighing up one of The Bug's baddest recent productions.

Kosheen member Markee Ledge, making the most of the groups hiatus, brings forward three solo productions for his debut release on Tempa.

Underground Railroad, already familiar to fans of DJ Youngsta's impeccably selected sets (it featured in his much lauded Resident Advisor Podcast (#495)), is an evocative mid-set 125 bpm shuffler.

Titled after the network of secret routes and safe houses established to help escaped slaves, and featuring vocal snippets from Malcolm X, and the works of prominent anti-slavery campaigner William Lloyd Garrison, the cinematic feel of the lead track is undeniable.

On the flip, 'Mad' takes an altogether more tech feel — an ever evolving stereo soundscape of scrapes, bleeps and rushes is anchored by constant bassline pressure, and the syncopated woodblock hits.

The EP finishes with the higher energy and more raucous 'Dream' — underpinned by the same bassline pressure as 'Mad', its swung hats the perfect counterpoint to the almost four-to-the-floor tension of the previous two tracks.

The next chapter in the Pressed Records discography is delivered with the unique sound design of Belgian based producer & dubstep purveyor Bunzer0. PRD011 comes into inception with Bunzer0's hard hitting tune 'King Lion', coupled with a forceful remix from Bristol based grime/dubstep forerunner Kahn. These two versions both push the boundaries on 140bpm dubstep music, having a different pace than a lot of tunes coming out. Pressed Records is excited to release this single and remix from two new artists within its' catalogue of deep, minimal oriented dubstep producers.

Bunzer0's original mix of 'King Lion' begins with a spacey intro, subtley building percussively into a broken pattern. Beneath Bunzer0's intelligent construction of drum work resides a heavy undertone of sub bassline. Punchy, militant kick drums stagger with force, sure to deliver crushing bassweight on a soundsystem. The original mix of 'King Lion' progresses steadily, growing off the minimalistic drum work, with elements of dub shining through with Bunzer0's use of reverbs & delays. This uniquely crafted tune is sure to catch many ears on soundsystems around the globe.

Bristolian producer Kahn's version of 'King Lion' wastes no time to push the listener right into the chaotic presence of those stabbing kick drums. Kahn's variation in the pattern of the kick adds a sense of panic to this remix. Swooping granulated mid ranges swoop across the rolling kicks and Kahn's usage of the vocal samples from the original tune is suited well with his progression built in this tune. The militant vibe created from this tunes drums brings together a solid perpetual energy that is best suited for a large soundsystem. Paying homage to the roots of dub, both versions are slick rollers, all-be-it broken, but very unique in design. - Trusik
