Datsik / Datsik & Funtcase - Mechano / Brock Out

Only in the Dubstep scene a short time, 21 year old Datsik (Troy B.) has wasted no time by making his presence be known internationally, introducing his own unique style of industrial sounding futuristic beats and heavy dance floor stomping rhythms. With the Rottun Recordings label behind him, he has been hard at work, working on many tunes, collaborations, and remixes for some of the biggest names in the world. Kassem Mosse - We Speak To Those / Hi Res

1

Hailing from Leipzig in Germany is an artist who's music has been pricking up many ears across the global underground over the last few years. It's hard to put a finger on what it is about Kassem Mosse's productions that make repeated listening a must, but the intricacy, fresh arrangements and musical depth definitely play a part in attracting labels such as the highly respected techno imprint Workshop, the legendary Soma Records and now Nonplus are honoured to present his latest 12'.
a) Kassem Mosse - 'We Speak to Those' First up on the a-side we have 'We Speak to Those' a 4/4 track of the highest quality that keeps you guessing from start to finish. The rugged and raw kick and bassline immediately set the foundations for the incoming awkward chord stabs whilst reversed beats lazily slur in and out over the main groove giving the track the unnerving feeling that its almost changing tempo. Random sound effects and a non conforming arrangement make this track about as predictable as the English summer. One listen to this and you'll immediately understand why this artist is getting love from some of the scenes biggest players at the moment.
aa) Kassem Mosse - 'Hi Res' Phased drum machine breakbeat patterns and stutered percussion redolent of the early Detroit techno uprising give this track an outstanding quality of being able to conjure up the same feelings of hope and optimism for electronic music that the aforementioned era managed to. Thought provoking chord progressions take your mind on an excursion to the future and leave you gagging for an extended trip. Think skyways, flying cars and towering metal buildings footed with dark abysmal underworlds and you'll get the drift. They don't come much deeper than this one.

Rossi B And Luca - E10 Riddim / Police Ar Come R

By far one of Planet Mu's biggest singles for 2010. Rossi B and Luca are bastions of bass; long time DJs and producers spanning UK Garage, Dubstep and Grime for a while now, releasing music on their own Heavy Artillery label and a host of others, as well as mixing it up hard for everyone from Rinse FM to the Ministry Of Sound. The B-side features Killa P from Roll Deep who also MC'd on The Bugs classic Skeng alongside renamed the track Police Ar Come Run and delivers some vicious verses over the original riddim in his stentor Patois, which imagines a scene which wouldn't be out of place in the Wild West taking place somewhere in East London. E10 Riddim merges Grime's spiky aggressive energy with Funky house's slinkier beatshaking rhythms perfectly. With the help of some supple, rolling, live drum samples keeping the whole thing full of energy, the track is a perfect blur of fierce dread and upbeat energy.

Subtle Audio - Volume 2

This is the second compilation album from Ireland's ever inventive Subtle Audio label. With Dj's as diverse as Mary Anne Hobbs of BBC Radio 1, Bailey on BBC Radio 1Xtra and possibly the best-known name in electronica, Aphex Twin playing Subtle Audio material regularly, you can rest assured that this is Drum & Bass beyond the normal scope and will be enjoyed by many who thought they didn't like that style of music! The Vinyl side of the project holds 5 exclusive tracks. On disc 1, Requiem kicks things off in style with heavy hitting drum onslaught of 'Ancient Dub' while on the flip-side the sweet ambient breakbeat of Accidental Style's 'Space Funkt' is one of the most delicately delivered pieces of music you'll hear this year. Disc 2 takes in the soaring synths of Mecca's 'Virtual Affair', the ratchet and wrench inspired percussives of 'Janne' by Dan Habarnam and a 170 bpm VIP version of Sub's downtempo jazz offering on the CD version of this release - 'Sensualism'. As you will hear, these producers are bringing fresh ideas and an experimental ethos to the sound of Drum & Bass. We're looking forward to hearing what they come up with next! Watch this space.

The Sound Of Dubstep - Volume 2

40

When Ministry of Sound released its hugely successful first instalment of 'The Sound Of Dubstep', the scene was just making its big breakthrough into the mainstream. Skream's remix of La Roux had proved that even at its sparsest and spookiest it could conquer clubland and the charts, Magnetic Man had signed to a major label, and dubstep remixes were starting to become standard. Now, though, that breakthrough has happened and dubstep is everywhere. Magnetic Man, Benga and Katy B have taken it into the Top 10, and tore up dancefloors and festivals across the country. Once again Ministry of Sound lead the way with the follow on release, 'The Sound Of Dubstep 2', with another epic collection of heavy hitters featuring Magnetic Man, Nero, Skream, James Blake, Benga & Coki plus exclusive remixes of Shy FX, Luck & Neat , Tempa T & Example amongst many others.

Downliners Sekt - Hello Lonely, Hold The Nation

Hello Lonely, Hold the nation' is the long awaited new release by enigmatic bass-tronauts, Downliners Sekt. Leaving aside the post rock, industrial leanings of their critically acclaimed predecessor, 'The Saltire Wave', the group lays out a subsonic adventure through haunting melodies and phantasmic soul. Teaming with Barcelonan bass music pioneers Disboot, this release offers one of the most progressive discs of electronic music emanating from Western Europe. Already pushing the limits of dubstep, grime and contemporary bass music before they were officially 'baptized', Downliners Sekt pick up the race where they left off with their 'Statement of Purpose' LP. 'Hello Lonely, Hold the Nation' combines fine sonic manipulation with the ingenious song craft they have honed throughout a varied musical history. Crushing your white Ipod headphones into the dust, this work of high end hiss, shuffling textural rhythms and rumbling bass threatens to destroy even the heaviest sound systems. This new beast is their own niche of bass music, a style of working they like to call 'slower, but faster'. This, their fifth release, marks the return of Downliners Sekt to 12~ vinyl format, 6 years after their first EP (for b: cuts), The Pledge, which was later released for the F Communications 'Megasoft Office' compilation. As the 11th release for Iberian bass pioneers Disboot, 'Hello Lonely, Hold The Nation' is an exciting new chapter in their potent catalogue, built as it is on the strong foundations of releases from artists as diverse as Cauto, Filastine and Offshore.

Kidkut - Ilove04 / Lilt

09.08.2010

Adam Jackson AKA Kidkut has played a major part in Bristol's music scene over recent years with his Immerse label releasing consistently outstanding music from the likes of Kontext, Benga, & Late to name but a few. Now Jackson is teaming up with leading imprint Apple Pips for the release of his own much awaited debut single. Apple Pips is the brainchild of Laurie Osborne AKA Appleblim who has made the label one of the most desirable dubstep/electronica imprints out there featuring music from Martyn, Ramadanman, Brackles, Instra:mental & more. Kidkut's single kicks off with the pointedly titled 'ILove04', a percussive roller that combines elements of broken beat, UK Funky, & early dubstep, with snippets of garage vocals and intense twisted bass. The arrangement cuts and flows perfectly, chopping between rhythms and melodic parts with the breakdown giving a definite nod of the head to oldskool hardcore. The flipside sees Kidkut going totally tropical with the magnificent 'Lilt', a percussive workout built around intricate drums and rolling bass that underpin the euphoric summer inspired synth lines. Bringing to mind the stripped down work of Karizma, this is sure to go down well with the Funky heads, indeed Bok Bok is already supporting the tune.
Early radio and DJ support coming from Sinden (Kiss FM), Toddla T (Ninja Tune/Radio 1), Mary Anne Hobbs, (Radio 1), Bok-Bok (Night Slugs) & Jackmaster (Numbers)

Tony Anthem And Axl Ender - Definition Of Gangster / Mammoth

'Definition of a Gangster' is a mean and menacing, half time stepper. Dubbed out and icy chords in the intro drop into a melodic but corrosive bassline which will appeal to fans of heavier subsonics. The Breaks mix uses the same elements but switches up the drum patterns and adds plenty of classic breaks for good measure. Rolling! The last track on the release 'Mammoth Phunk' takes us into edgier territory with a piano riff, and a massive reese bass
