For fans of Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Terry Riley and Arvo Pärt: Composer and producer Ben Chatwin releases his new album 'The Sleeper Awakes' through Village Green. Written and recorded at Chatwin's home studio in Scotland. Inspired by the writing of H.G. Wells, 'The Sleeper Awakes' is Chatwin's first album to appear under his own name and follows last year's highly-lauded Talvihorros project 'Eaten Alive'. Ben makes a move away from the more textured, heavily layered soundscapes of his Talvihorros work into something more succinct and melodically driven. Ben sourced a one hundred-year-old Dulcitone and used it extensively, making it sit with modern electronics and synthesis

Here are two pieces by NAUM GABO (Jonnie Wilkes and James Savage) which we used to slow down in many sets and we still do. The speed change from 45 to 33rpm transformed them into new tracks, pulled them over from Glasgow to Cologne, placed them in a different genre, converted the intended scheme into
an acquired effect - set a model into a world. !We hereby materialise this practice and its theory by re-releasing the tracks. Pressed on 45rpm, they've now physically become new compositions. They can't be played at the original speed anymore, but only even slower still. Now it's your turn.

Innercity, the nom de plume of Belgian producer Hans Dens, has been releasing his brand of entrancing LoFi electronica on his own cassette label Why So Serious, on Aguirre Records and a slur of other specialized labels (amongst which his acclaimed album on Seattle-based Further Records). Orre is proud to present two new amazing tracks on this 7", his first outing for the label. LoFi is in fact an ugly word to describe Innercity's music as the effect of his loop-based compositions is nothing short of maximal. His free-flowing tracks glimmer with warmth and are at times soft as silk, resulting in an inward sound that is inviting, yet strangely eerie and distant. With every loop, Dens seems to tap into another emotional level. Different layers suggest evolution, but at the same time, stasis is at the center of his music, making his tracks circle around themselves, like an electronic maelstrom in which it is a pleasure to drown. 'An Ecstacy Shoredrive Into The Bleak Bliss Of No Mind Waters' on the A-side has an overpowering light shining through it. The source of that light, although familiar, is uncertain. Dens leaves it up to the listener to make his own associations, but looking up instead of down seems to be the thing to do here. 'Our Final Bloom' on the B-side is more earth-bound and concrete, darker as well. The voice sample used adds to its sense of delightful alienation and more explicit melancholy.

Diynamic is proud to announce the debut album of Thyladomid called 'Interstellar Destiny', to be released worldwide on March 30th. Thyladomid is a DJ and producer based in Germany with English roots. He has stepped up into the international limelight back in 2010, when his single 'The Voice' held the pole position on Beatport's Deep House charts for six consecutive weeks and eventually got him a 'Beatport Music Award' in the category 'Top Deep House Track of the Year' (based on Beatport sales). Since then Thyladomid has been an inherent part of Diynamic, with New Release Information regular appearances on international label showcases, its own festivals as well as with multiple successful releases on the label and its sub-imprint 2DIY4, including highly-acclaimed collaborations with Adriatique. On Thyladomid's next adventure, which is his debut album 'Interstellar Destiny', he takes a different approach with his music: It does not feature the usual club sound you would expect from him. Instead, it mirrors his thoughtful and fragile nature in his songs, making this album as personal as one can be. 'Many things inspired me,' says the man himself on the album, 'but first and foremost it was movie scores. So when I was working on a track, I was actually imagining a movie scene that I would be doing the score for. The title 'Interstellar Destiny' means something in the way of 'universal meaning' or 'human purpose'. Every track describes a process or a situation of our lives here on planet earth, a beautiful or not so beautiful facet of our existence. The album is very melancholic and describes my musical nature in regard to my perception of my surroundings.

Edizioni Mondo 002 - inside out sleeve - 180g vinyl - Mastercut by Lupo at Calyx The name MONDO has its roots in 'MONDO MOVIES", an italian movie genre born in the 60's. Mondo movies are characterized by documentary-like content that addresses several topics from around the world ("mondo"). The Mondo label has the goal to produce music that is descriptive of concepts, images and environments. Mondo is inspired by library music, a genre frequently used as theme or background music in radio, film and television in that very same period. Production music libraries typically offer a broad range of musical styles and genres describing everything ranging from deserts to war and sports. Library music composers and session performers had no constraint at all. They typically work anonymously, have rarely become known outside their professional circle and they have produced what probably is the most creative music catalogue ever. The Mondo productions start with four releases dedicated to seascapes; scenarios range from sea fauna to poaching, from natural parks to sea dunes. Good listening!

Alessandroni. The concept itself is riveting enough: the guy who provided that infamous guitar riff for 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' providing utterly bent and synth-heavy recordings
previously unheard by the wider world - but the material and execution is just nothing short of a revelation, unlocking an uncannily prescient suite of rhythmik pieces that sound unlike much library music you will have heard from the era. 'Industrial' perfectly encapsulates the heightened state of creativity in the mid '70s surrounding Alessandroni and his close peers Giuliano Sorgini - together known as Braen Raskovich - and Ennio Morricone, for whom Alessandro also famously whistled the theme to 'A Fistful of Dollars'. Recorded at Piero Umiliani's Sound Workshop in Rome, and made with an arsenal of EMS Synthi VCS3 modular systems, tape loops and a treated Petrof
grand piano plus a bundle of string instruments, the 'Industrial' results (coincidentally issued the same year as Throbbing Gristle's debut album) present a pulsating take on this kind of music breaching tightly-coiled motorik systems and mood percolators with atonal strings and viral oscillations. Most importantly, the sense of minimalist efficiency and the clarity of the recordings
are shocking, pushing the envelope of electro-acoustic music and pre-empting the early notions of an entire genre movement

Mit - The Empire Of Silence liefert der Klang-Poet einen beeindruckenden Soundtrack zur epochalen Gewalt und Anmut nordischer Schnee- und Eislandschaften. Dabei klingt er so elegisch, warm und romantisch wie schon lange nicht mehr. Dies mag mitunter auch einer strikten Reduktion auf bittersüsse Streicherklänge geschuldet sein. Führen die melancholischen Anfangstücke - penstla (Idee von Schnee) und - tlaslo (Schnee der langsam fällt) noch auf samt gleitenden Wegen, so erhebt sich das Album mit - kayi (wandernder Schnee) und skriniya (Schnee der nie den Boden berührt) in seine volle Euphorie. Epochal zieht das neunminütige - katiyana (Nachtschnee) den Hörer in den Bann, während - naklin (vergessener Schnee) für ein kurzes Innehalten sorgt. Seinen Höhepunkt ndet das Album in nahezu ekstatischen Glisandi von - chathalin (Schnee der einen säuselnden Klang macht, wenn er auf Wasser fällt) um dann im elegischen - ylaipi (Schnee von morgen) sanft und erhaben auszuklingen.

'Violet' is the new EP from Shield Patterns. The duo released their highly acclaimed debut album 'Contour Lines' (5/5 in The Skinny) in summer 2014 and this follow-up EP features four brand new tracks from the Manchester-based creators of electronic dark-pop music. Violet' is a lovingly crafted progression from 'Contour Lines'. The experimentation found there has been explored further to feature samples made from clicking bones, field recordings, heavy drones and a starker approach to production. On first listen the sound is more minimalistic than that debut album but multiple layers gradually reveal themselves over time. Brentnall's vocals were singled out for particular praise in early reviews and she has refined her vision further here, with her lyrical concerns focussing on the intimacy of bodies ("drip-feeding" and "mouths", for example) and her voice arranged into swirling loops like those which introduce and underpin final track 'Monument'. This is electronic music that juxtaposes warmth and cold, journeying from industrial to natural, from claustrophobic to expansive.

Tokyo Offshore Project are Frankie Valentine and Simon Lovejoy, djs and producers heavily involved in the construction of the underground UK house and electronica scene of the 90's and Japanese musician Kiyoshi Myaura. This album is a collection of their best underground house / electronica moments circa 1990-1992. POINT OF INTEREST First time on cd with 3 unreleased tracks. Simon Lovejoy is responsible for Dj Harvey's edits on their own Black Cock label and produced Björk's first electronic tunes. - Simon Lovejoy was resident at Soho's Brain, an historically important club in the development of house / techno and the first club to encourage live PA's like Ultramarine or Orbital. Frankie Valentine, dj since the late 70's, is one of London underground house finest player, still working the crowd like frenzy. Old school really do know how to work it better.

This compilation presents a collection of easy listening, jazz and soundtracks profile typically "loungeish", from the living room, offering a wide selection of intriguing developments for sophisticated lovers of this genre. Subtitled "Family Affair Chapter One" this disc ranges from psychedelic songs intrinsi of every subtle sound effect "trippy" and traces style Latin jazz with a hint. Arena psychedelic best moments are "Pygar's Persecution / The Black Queen's Beads", a rare cut of Bob Crewe from the soundtrack of the movie "Barbarella", which contrasts a casual listening to horn arrangements against some wild guitar solos and distorted "En Melody", an instrumental Serge Gainsbourg built on a duel of guitar strings by cutting electricity and some notes of sinuous funky background. In the easy listening the first choices are "Lament", an airy Nelson Riddle between layers of strings and horns airy light on a sweet Latin rhythms and easy-jazz version of George Shearing's "Aquarius" recreating the melody of the song through a jazz piano and vibraphone against a thick frame drumming in Brazilian style. Unfortunately the two extremes do not blend together ever and this makes for some sudden changes of tone, "Family Affair Chapter One" a challenging listening experience. Undoubtedly some minor cuts could have been excluded (the most annoying and 'bizarre version of Luis Enriquez of "Mas Que Nada", a coming and going of direct rendering of the song and moments of delirious interpretation), however, despite this "inconvenience", the Most of the tracks on this disc are delightful and most difficult to find. In conclusion "Family Affair Chapter One 'and' a difficult choice for the living room novice but certainly offers songs of sufficient rarity to please the most demanding veterans.

This compilation, presents a collection of easy listening, jazz, and film soundtrack cuts that have a loungeish edge to them. It offers up enough intriguing oddities to satisfy lounge cultists. Subtitled "Family Affair Chapter One," this disc divides its time between psychedelic instrumentals drenched in all sorts of trippy sonic effects and subtler, Latin-styled tracks with a jazz feel to them. In the psychedelic arena, the best moments include "Pygar's Persecution/The Black Queen's Beads," a rare cut by Bob Crewe from the Barbarella soundtrack that pits easy listening horn arrangements against some wild fuzz-guitar solos, and "En Melody," a Serge Gainsbourg instrumental built on a duel between slashing electric guitar leads and some funky, serpentine basslines. In the easy listening corner, the top picks are "Lamento," a breezy Nelson Riddle instrumental that layers breezy strings and light horns over a gentle Latin beat, and George Shearing's easy-jazz instrumental version of "Aquarius," which recreates the song's melody via jazzy piano and vibes against a thick backdrop of Brazilian-styled percussion. Unfortunately, the two extremes never really blend together and this makes for some abrupt shifts in tone that make 'Family Affair Chapter One' a difficult listening experience. There are also a few lesser cuts that could have been bypassed; the most annoying is Luis Enriquez's bizarre version of "Mas Que Nada," which veers back and forth between a straight rendition of the song and what sounds like drunken gibberish. Despite this problem, most of the cuts on this disc are entertaining and almost all of them are tough to come by. In the end, 'Family Affair Chapter One' is not an ideal pick for the lounge novice, but offers more than enough rarities to please the seasoned veteran

The Fabel sound is constantly morphing through stages. Fabel's latest album, Sinestesia takes you through the spectrum of his sonic world.Hailing from Barcelona Spain, Fabel is a sonic storyteller and multiinstrumentalist, as prolific on the keys as he is on the bass. Sinestesia is full of Fabel's signature electric piano solos and his complex baselines of labyrinth style funk. His production is a true fusion of raw live sound with modern detailed digital synth and percussion. Accompanying Fabel on a few tracks is the lovely finesse of Dutch Harpist Anne Vanschothorst and the Bluesy Guitar of Barcelona's Ian Currie. The label of the confidence in things experiment-joyful funkyness, presents a debut of the completely special mood. Welcome Irisfog in the world of the noble music preservation. Lukas Rabe & Niklas Kraft are together Irisfog. The two bustling musicians and sound nerd originate from Leipzig. There they are com- mitted in different projects & volume from noise to jazz. Therefore blows also the wind of influences, which besides with hearing habits from abstract to orchestral and herbaceous are combined. Niklas Kraft trades under the name of besides under the name Talski. Its publications on the Vinyl only label Rivulet can convince dancers and lovers at the same time into a basin of full deepness bathing to go together. Deep one is here also in all four pieces more than trump. Here nothing is only no way sunrise or sunset, here the fog cannon is started up there, all the same whether she seems or not. However, where much fog is, it becomes also repeatedly sunny. In the heart above all, because the music of Irisfog also comes there. You can say in addition, it is out that belly music in a jam character with all kinds of synths, microphones, various devices and samples. The less we know about Belgian sound alchemist Pepijn Caudron (aka Kreng), the better. We know his debut release 'L'Autopsie Phenomenale De Dieu' appeared seemingly out of nowhere on the Miasmah label in 2009, but other than that very little tangible information has surfaced. This sequel, the blackly monikered 'Grimoire' simply re-enforces Caudron's shadowy legacy with a similarly dank concoction of cracked strings, creaking percussion and half-heard dialogue. Thankfully however Caudron has refined his craft in every way, from the artfully restrained layering of samples to the deliriously magickal atmosphere he manages to conjure up. There is the sense even from the first few seconds of the record that you are transported out of time and reality, and as hoarse, alien breaths croak over oily bass drones the poignant spoken words 'You don't belong here' become an apt anchor for the entire album.

There's always been a hugely cinematic tone to Dark Dark Dark's music, be it through the immersive sense of atmosphere much of the instrumentation and vocals instill, or the image-strewn lyrics and sense of place that can transport the listener to another world. So it makes perfect sense that they would end up in the world of cinema. However, this is not simply a film score commission. Here the group's involvement with Flood Tide runs much, much deeper. Flood Tide is written and directed by former band member Todd Chandler, and features the band both as characters and performers.
Set within artist Swoon's floating junk sculptures project, 'Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea', Flood Tide both documents and reimagines the real-life journey of Swoon and her collaborators as they build boats out of junk and set out on the open water of the Hudson River. All of this is accompanied by an original, nineteen song soundtrack by Dark Dark Dark.

The film and soundtrack release comes after a fruitful and productive few years for the group. After releasing the much praised debut album on melodic 'Wild Go' in 2011, the band followed up with full-length 'Who Needs Who' in 2012, and then the 'What I Needed' EP in 2013, a year that saw them tour the world, play two ATP's within 6 months (curated by The National and TV On The Radio), as well as create a score to Jerome Hill's La Cartomancienne. Flood Tide also premiered in 2013 at the Torino Film Festival, exposing the world to the group's rich and evocative soundtrack for the very first time.

With much of Dark Dark Dark's previous material being glued together by the distinctive vocals of Nona Marie Invie, this soundtrack is unique in that it is primarily instrumental, an approach that motivated the group immensely. 'We were excited to have an opportunity to make an instrumental record because we've always been inspired by bands like Rachel's and Dirty Three, and soundtracks like those from the movies Waking Life and Dead Man,' say the band. Much like some of the influences and inspirations mentioned here, the soundtrack to Flood Tide succeeds as a stand-alone record, even when free from its contextual home of the film. 'This is a really unique record,' the group say of the project, 'it's much more textural and ambient than most Dark Dark Dark material.
The line-up featured on the soundtrack is one that never toured full time, and this record is a beautiful document of the chemistry and sensibilities of that variation of the band. The group have taken the material on the road, playing it in strange, distinctive places that are emblematic of the film's own unique journey. 'We've played this material in a hand-built drive-in movie theatre filled with junk cars, on rafts on the Hudson River, in the canals of Venice and in museums across the USA.'

The double gatefold vinyl release wraps up this project for the band perfectly, 'We're excited to have the recordings out in the world. It's a document of a special time in our lives. Releasing a small run of vinyl with a download of the film seems like the most beautiful and intimate way to share this project.'

Mikkel Meyer steps into a new territory of electronic music. Meyer has been inspired by various new/freak/lo-fi/indie folk artists and uses chord progressions from these styles to shape his music; the chords though are played on classic music machines like the Roland 808 and 303. The result is newfound melodies combined with the low-key use of vocals, which gives 'Jolly' a very personal, outward and nostalgic fingerprint, inviting you to dance and reflect.

Classically trained on violin and piano from an early age, she studied piano and composition at Edinburgh University before completing a masters degree in Piano Performance. A long-term collaborator with Hidden Orchestra (Tru Thoughts Records Denovali Records), she also works with other musicians and artists, creating soundtracks for film, dance, physical theatre and radio. Her debut album 'Escapement' (Denovali Records, 2012) impressed with its delicate, intricate and beautifully atmospheric music, created using only piano and violin (with the exception of a few field recordings). In 2013 Poppy collaborated with visual artist Lumen to create bespoke films for her live performances. Demand from audiences led to a DVD of the music and visuals combined - 'Escapement Visualised' - being released in September 2014. November 2014 sees the release of her second full-length album 'Feathers', which she will be performing live across Europe in the months following the release. Through studying contemporary classical piano works and listening to electronic music, Poppy began to develop her own compositional style, using conventional pianistic ideas whilst also inhabiting the world of sound beyond the keyboard, using unconventional techniques to 'play' other parts of the instruments as well. Like 'Escapement', her second album 'Feathers' mostly consists of piano and violin, but the palate of sounds is increased with other acoustic keyboard instruments - including harmonium, clavichord, harpsichord and spinet - and in the string sections Poppy's violin lines are augmented by guest cellist Su-a Lee. Poppy's beloved, restored Blüthner grand piano in her studio is again the backbone of the album, providing most of the melodies, bass lines and percussive sounds. Other material originated from improvised recording sessions at the Russell/Mirrey Collection of keyboard instruments in Edinburgh. Having previously spent time there dismantling different pianos to understand how their mechanisms work and make sound, she was given complete freedom on her own in the museum to experiment with around fifty keyboard instruments from the 16th century to the 19th century. Selecting a few instruments for 'Feathers' that produced a variety of different timbres, it was again the other sounds these instruments could make that interested her, when treating them as sources for melodic or percussive material. Recordings of unfamiliar sounds, which include brushing/plucking the strings and tapping/stroking the frames or soundboards, are combined with accidental 'imperfect' sounds that come from playing the instrument, such as pedal noise or the sound of harpsichord shutters opening and closing. There is an intimate feel to the recordings as these older instruments are not designed to project sound loudly, so the microphones were placed very close to capture the minutest detail. Field recordings add to the cinematic and atmospheric quality of the music: chiming wall clocks in Timeless, traffic noise on Roads, and the wave and pebble sounds from Brighton beach in Birdwoman. With its delicate textures, rhythmic intricacy and achingly beautiful melodies, 'Feathers' is the perfect companion for stories of love, loss, hope and migration. Celebrated ambient artist John Beltran jointly release not one but two vinyl compilations on Delsin Records in association with his own Dado label. The compilations, named Music For Machines Part 1 and Part 2, will take the form of two vinyl LPs released apart, with both releases complied together onto one CD available at a later date. Michigan born producer Beltran, of course, has released countless legendary EPs and LPs on labels like Peacefrog, Carl Craig's Retroactive and Belgium's R&S. His music has been licensed to high profile HBO TV series and a number of films, and pulls together elements of jazz, world music, organic soundscapes and electronic textures into compelling listening experiences. Most recently this came in the form of his Amazing Things album in 2013, whilst his career spanning Ambient Selections from 2011 is still a vital listen. Part 1 of the compilation pulls together new and exclusive tracks from the likes of Winter Flags, Blair French, David Elpezs and John himself, whilst part two focuses on the likes of Natalie Beridze, Kirk Degiorgio and Vincent Volt. Part 1 opens up with the found sound lushness of 'Winterfall Winds' before naturally unfolding through Reinehr's wintry harmonics and the crowning glory of Beltran's own titular track, which is a moving bit of textured modern classical music that sooths your mind, body and soul. As for Part 2, it is riddled with sumptuous sonic delights like Greg Chin's icy and alpine 'Dashboard Angels' and Mick Chillage's beautifully suspended 'Only In My Dreams'. Vincent Volt keeps things beautifully beachy with his 'Subway Arp' and A2B2C2's 'Stereometry' is a suitably sombre affair that closes the compilation down in style.

Over the course of several months, Áine O'Dwyer was given access to the pipe organ in St Mark's Church, Islington while the cleaners were at work. Primarily a harpist, this was a rare opportunity to grapple with the "king of instruments" and apply her sense of melodic, structured improvisation in a very different context. Since it's impossible to exert complete control over such a recording environment, she entered into the sessions with a Cagean mindset, embracing the extra-musical sounds.This gave the recordings a unique character and concept. With the door left open to serendipity, it can seem that the sonic environment coalesces in sympathetic harmony. Here, the synth-like whoosh of the vacuum cleaner, a child's laughter, various echoed clatters and chatter become part of the music. Improvised music is inevitably influenced by the presence and expectations of an audience. In this case the "audience" consists of people subjected to music that they may find coincidentally pleasant or irritatingly intrusive as they go about their work. They exert an influence via the musician's awareness of them, but also through their audible and sometimes disruptive presence as coincidental performers and unwitting collaborators. Áine capitulates to the "request from the ladies" by not staying "on one note for a long time", but already did "bring music" - that is, the graphic score reproduced in the gatefold. At the end, we can hear that even the recording device itself is subjected to the relentless advance of church cleaning. The album is multifaceted and conceptually satisfying in many ways. It's simultaneously a series of solo improvisations, a site-specific piece of performance art, rich in chance elements, and even qualifies as a field recording, where the transcendent and menial meet. Despite the absence of cheers and applause, it's also a live album. In this new extended incarnation, it becomes almost a kind of minimalist opera, with a subtle plot of polite contention softening amid curiosity about the trumpet that takes us out of this most concrete of recordings with a single psychedelicised blast. Metaphysical themes are hard to avoid using an imposing instrument traditionally intended to inspire them. The titles hint at Áine's meditative concerns while playing. Here is an Irish lapsed Catholic mind (as Cranley told Dedalus) "supersaturated" with the religion it rejects: the double meaning implicit in "church cleaning", the forbidden "deep sounds", the pensive, often brooding hue of the music itself, heavy in every sense. Throughout I hear the dark depths of thoughtfulness, warmth, and mischievous wit that is quintessentially Áine. Originally released as a cassette on Fort Evil Fruit, this expanded vinyl edition features new artwork and doubles the album's length, making for a truly immersive experience. - Paul Condon

The modernist Dreampop of Magic Island's Wasted Dawn was catalyzed and nurtured by Berlin. The predominant Casio keyboard was found in the street, the project itself developed under the influence of a close circle of Berlin-based artists and friends, including Touchy Mob and Montreal's Sean Nicholas Savage, while the compositions strongly reflect both the complex and most simplistic day-to-day emotions, events and surrounding environment. That particular magic has proven charming to many, as this year Magic Island has played at Fusion Festival, Torstraßen festival, C/O Pop Festival, at The Lab Magazine's Regenerate event series, as well as opening for Fenster (Morr Music), Ballet School (Bella Union), Hundred Waters (OWSLA), Soft Metals (Captured Tracks) and Teen Daze

Ruff Records unearths a rare Australian (com)oddity... the self titled 'Flat Static' LP recorded in Reservoir, Melbourne in 1985... originally privately issued in miniscule quantity, Ruff gives this weirdo post-punk fossil its first proper edition. 'Australian' experimental sounds of the late 70s - 80s which defines labels such as Cleopatra, Innocent, M Squared, Larrikin and Jarra Hill Records etc... heard here in subtle funky form, with distinct stylistic shifts throughout coinciding with the groups acquisition/ experimentation with the TR-808 drum machine. Members include contemporary performance artist Brett Band, known locally for anti- institutional street performance. As well as early Australian computer pioneer Ant Wilshire. A rare treat from Australia's rich musical past, not to be missed...
