AIR004 invited Steve Hauschildt and BNJMN to make the selections.

Steve Hauschildt is an American electronic musician and founding member of the band Emeralds based in Ohio with releases on Kranky and Editions Mego. Steve has collaborated with Oneohtrix Point Never, sound designer/composer Alan Howarth, Lusine and others.

A compelling leftfield and dance music producer, BNJMN (Ben Thomas) hails from the shores of England's Bournemouth now based on the digital shores of Berlin. BNJMN has released music on Rush Hour, Delsin, Ninja Tune's Technicolour, and Astro:Dynamics. Collaborations include Opal Tapes man Best Available Technology.

Claudio has two previous releases on Basilar Records with his Bring to Mind and Mind the Beat EPs. Diarmo, the solo project of Diarmuid Slattery, a London based Dj/Producer and musician creating a crossover style of melodic electronica. With this his forth release on Basilar Records, he always continues to shape his sound, adding that melodic touch to his style of Ambient, Techno and House. London based independent label Basilar Records was founded by Diarmo in 2011.

Unified by dub's loose sense of space and deep sub-frequencies, CHLLNGR's unique amalgam of soul, pop, stripped-down beats, and decaying atmospheres has earned the Copenhagen-based artist, Steven Jess Borth II, adulation from press and peers alike. The nocturnal, murky worlds of his debut 'Haven' and it's follow-up EP 'Datter' alluded to subtle pop possibilities featuring Borth's soft-touch vocals woven into structures indebted to modern R&B's sleek minimalism and the techniques set forth by dub reggae's chief architects King Tubby, Scientist, among countless other legends. An artist who shines in the collaborative process, Borth's acclaimed debut 'Haven' featured Coco (of Quadron), Aku (of Dragons of Zynth), Teachers, and he has been a consistent cohort of South African MC Spoek Mathambo partnering in composing, production, and touring as Mathambo's multi-instrumentalist secret weapon over the past few years.
Over the past year, CHLLNGR has been working on his next full-length for the LA-based Time No Place label. Recorded at the newly built Red Bull Studios in Copenhagen, Borth took a different approach by recording most of the new record at a legitimate studio as opposed to his previous DIY methods. Again, a collaborative effort: the new album features contributions from up-and-coming vocalist JOSIAHWISE IS THE SERPENTWITHFEET, Grace Hall of Skin Town, Doctor Echo, Dusty Brown, Nikolaj Manuel Vonsild (When Saints Go Machine, Cancer) and the UK based artist DELS. Keeping much CHLLNGR's signature moody starkness, his forthcoming LP strives for brave eclecticism, digging deeper into his future-minded soul music explorations.

Celebrated ambient artist John Beltran jointly release not one but two vinyl compilations on Delsin Records in association with his own Dado label. The compilations, named Music For Machines Part 1 and Part 2, will take the form of two vinyl LPs released apart, with both releases complied together onto one CD available at a later date. Michigan born producer Beltran, of course, has released countless legendary EPs and LPs on labels like Peacefrog, Carl Craig's Retroactive and Belgium's R&S. His music has been licensed to high profile HBO TV series and a number of films, and pulls together elements of jazz, world music, organic soundscapes and electronic textures into compelling listening experiences. Most recently this came in the form of his Amazing Things album in 2013, whilst his career spanning Ambient Selections from 2011 is still a vital listen. Part 1 of the compilation pulls together new and exclusive tracks from the likes of Winter Flags, Blair French, David Elpezs and John himself, whilst part two focuses on the likes of Natalie Beridze, Kirk Degiorgio and Vincent Volt. Part 1 opens up with the found sound lushness of 'Winterfall Winds' before naturally unfolding through Reinehr's wintry harmonics and the crowning glory of Beltran's own titular track, which is a moving bit of textured modern classical music that sooths your mind, body and soul. As for Part 2, it is riddled with sumptuous sonic delights like Greg Chin's icy and alpine 'Dashboard Angels' and Mick Chillage's beautifully suspended 'Only In My Dreams'. Vincent Volt keeps things beautifully beachy with his 'Subway Arp' and A2B2C2's 'Stereometry' is a suitably sombre affair that closes the compilation down in style.

INDUSTRY sheds all personalized effort and tests how far you can get by using presets only. All sounds are factory presets of 3 obsolete 1990s Japanese workstation synths, all effects are presets, all notes are quantized and most panning is purely accidental (laid out in the preset sounds). INDUSTRY doesn't rely on successful presets, but on failed sounds of now obsolete synthesizers - industrial assumptions of where culture will go, but where it chose not to. The result is a surprisingly pleasant listening experience with effortless grooves and rich textures - and mildly demonic connotations. From smooth to kicking - a conveyor belt enjoying mood swings. As beautiful as the scheduled meeting of a PVC sheet and a thermoform mould on a workbench. 0% sound design.

What -> Presets are pre-programmed settings of a device such as a synthesizer or an effects unit: factory stock sounds, equivalent to stock photography or preset styles and filters in apps like Instagram. Audio presets provide a library of 'typical' and supposedly desirable sounds - thus enabling a consumer to bypass individual programming and get quick & easily repeatable results. Every modern instrument or software comes with presets - and people use them heavily.

Philipp Weber is a musician living and working in Leipzig, Germany. His main focus when creating music is to capture the moment by using all kinds of instruments in a playful and intuitive way, experimenting with rhythms, sounds and melodies. His songs are ideas, emotions and thoughts that he tries to translate into music. »It's like speaking a language«, he says, »without knowing its grammar, still trying to fnd the right words.« Philipp is one half of the project Webermichelson - a two-piece band focused on merg-
ing Kraut and experimental music through drums, synths and guitars. Webermichelson have been a core ingredient of the Holger universe from the very start, one of their live shows actually being the moment where it all began. With his frst mini album Weber now joins the Holger family also as a solo artist.

Jazz-influenced harmonies & tech-inspired roots are brought to bear on these "straight-to-tape" jams. "Pretty Lady" f/heavy uplifting pads & bangin bass, "The VIbe" is summer afternoon vibes, w/live guitar & drums.

Diagonal are pleased to announce that their fourth release will come from Texas-based interference fiends Shit & Shine. Shit & Shine's architect, Craig Clouse, has spent the past decade amassing a reputation for remarkable live shows — churning slabs of repetitive, transcendentally intense rhythmic noise, frequently featuring multiple drummers — as well as a string of caustic albums via Riot Season whose stark, minimalist constructions simultaneously draw energy from noise rock, post-industrial musics and proto-techno.

Following last year's Jream Baby Jream album, the new EP for Diagonal presents a slight shift from previous form. A suite of brutally degraded but infectiously funky rhythm-driven tracks and corrosive re-edits, it finds Clouse turning his gaze, obliquely but with intense clarity of vision, towards the dancefloor. Its four tracks take a dry and percussive but distinctly playful approach, bringing them into alignment with the gutted dance-not-dance of Diagonal boss Powell.

Lead track 'Blowhannon' draws out the latent propulsion of much of Clouse's earlier work into sleaze-ridden and chaotic funk. He uses its infectious, undulating bassline as launch-off point towards alien territory, shattering apart its vocals, percussion and spiky guitars in a haze of effects. The clustered drum machine hits and convulsive keys in 'Value' erupt in showers of distortion, while 'Shower Curtain' casts brittle, noisy punk-funk in sand-blasted monochrome. The final track, a re-edit of Theo Parrish's 'Synthetic Flemm', lays bare its rough-cut, deconstructionist aesthetic. Playing like Parrish's original with all its synapses fried through lysergic overload, like the rest of the EP it's at once forbidding, darkly humourous and irresistibly psychedelic.

Released on 12" vinyl and digital download formats. The vinyl issue comes in an LP sleeve with double hits of high-vis yellow and pornographic pink. The release also marks the first collaboration with artist and designer Guy Featherstone, who heads up Design at Wieden and Kennedy, London.

Bewitches in its overall atmosphere as a passionate laid-back musical statement for a world with so much noise
A touch of classical music, left field electronics, ambient love affairs, and discreet dubby house emotions without a kick drum: the third instalment of Mule Musiq's famed - Enjoy the Silence' sampler serial swings gentle, tricky, and multidimensional. Already twice before the label from Tokyo delivered compilations full of music by contemporary artists that explore sounds beyond the common definition of ambient. This time the atmosphere is focusing on avant-garde textures that got a touch of very diverse genres and styles. What all tracks have in common: they spread music that allows the listener to stop time and reflect on things. As Mule Musiq always been a label that got some core artists once again Koss, Lawrence, and DJ Sprinkles aka Terre Thaemlitz are part of a dovelike sound cruise that allows you to be in many spaces and places at the same time. Beside them some new names on the label like Vermont, Recondite, Petre Inspirescu, or John Roberts deliver musical voyages that seem to be produced by unique subconscious decisions and not by assembly line craftsmanship for art.

After making waves with early and idiosyncratic EPs on labels like Rush Hour and Astro:Dynamics, singular UK talent BNJMN now steps up to make his debut on Delsin with six tracks of experimental and inventive noise and techno. 'Coil' opens his account with screechy, unnerving synths squeals, imposing and throbbing pads and super deep kick drums that come at you from miles below. It's a hugely textured and spine tingling affair before the ambiance of 'Berth' comes rippled with glassy and alien little melodies. 'Merge' has turbo charged drums hiding beneath more unsettled synth based noise that sound sernee at the same time as being paranoid. On the flip, 'And Suddenly' makes your hairs stand on end with is gothic celestial glow and slithering synth patterns, 'Blown' is a damaged and degraded bit of icy, thumping and reverb heavy techno and 'Azure' ends on a brain soothing, chilled out ambient high. These are the sort of truly unique and magically textured tracks you would expect from a producer like BNJMN, and mark a fine debut on Delsin.

Dntel is Jimmy Tamborello. "Judging by the title of Jimmy Tamborello's latest Dntel LP-Human Voice, you'd think he just completed another guest-heavy collection of synth-and-sample-laced pop songs. Not quite; the voices here are actually quite inhuman, a cast of paranoid androids lost in a complex lattice of avant-dance loops." - SELF TITLED "Tamborello is probably best known for his genre crushing pop project. The Postal Service ... He experiments with with footwork on first single, and if you ever wanted to hear what The Postal Service might sound like with a rolling juke pulse, well now you can." - FACT. Just in time for autumn, Fran invites us into club music's parallel world with the project Hamlet: aided by Oded K.dar (NÖRD / The Koletzkis) on the piano, she presents cover versions of beloved electronic classics such as 'Sky and Sand', 'Limit to your Love', 'Howling' or 'Hypnotized' on the fittingly titled album 'Piano'. The initial idea came to the duo at a birthday party; the first baby steps followed the very next day. Surprised by the potential, the autodidactic singer Fran and the studied concert pianist Oded searched far and wide for the perfect grand piano, which they eventually found in the form of an old Steinway at the Greve Studio in Berlin. Thus, the drunken whim developed into fourteen beautiful covers over the course of numerous nightly recording sessions. Reduced to vocals and piano, Hamlet let the original track's essence resound. One is able to hear the soul of the song, as the minimalistic rendition enables breathing space. Moderat's 'Bad Kingdom' or Kraftwerk's 'Das Modell' suddenly appear like honest black and white portraits. The words and melodies, embedded in the harmonies of the piano, are like the wrinkles and peculiarities of a face stripped of make-up, emerging in a hitherto unseen fashion. A new aesthetic is created through the reduction. Removed from the club, the songs on 'Piano' are defined by their pure emotiveness - sometimes of a euphoric, sometimes of a melancholic nature - while they are also a nostalgic bridge to their original context. They seem like a vague memory of a late night; like the walk home in the quiet hour before dawn.

Nearing its first birthday, Other People is celebrating the only way it knows how: Work. The label has put out new material every Sunday since it launched with last year's Trust compilation, and the culminating Work comp doesn't break that streak-consisting almost entirely of new material from Other People's artist roster, and a few remixes from some special guests. Work is not, however, an uncooked mash of music. It's sequencing is deliberate and its selection purposefully not encompassing. In fact, Work is more an album than anything else. Kicking off the affair is Soul Keita, whose roots run back to the days of Nicolas Jaar's first label, Clown & Sunset. Dave Harrington follows with a cover of the Nick Drake song 'Things Behind The Sun' with the singer Tamara. His amorphous chords flow right into the tight groove of VISUALS' 'A Pixel', produced by Nico and featuring some guitar by Dave. Darkside also pay their dues with two unreleased tracks from their Psychic sessions-'What They Say' and 'Gone Too Soon'. Putting a nail in the coffin, German pyro-techno duo Ancient Astronaut do battle with a troupe of remixers. The first comes in snarling at the hands of Powell. The second builds gently with the subtle touch of Jenilek. And last comes a deadly dub mix by Francis Harris and Gabriel Hedrick. Work paid off.

Puzzle Muteson is the alter ego of an enigmatic songwriter from the Isle of Wight, rendering his music in a tremulous tenor over a finely spun web of fingerpicked guitar.

Born in London, the southern English island provided unexpected shelter for the shuddering transformation into one-man band Puzzle Muteson. His grade-school music teacher was first to recognise his unrivalled vibrato, and a little while later a parade of chance and coincidence led him to inhabit Puzzle Muteson, and start shaping a body of songs.
Theatrics picks up where Puzzle Muteson's debut, En Garde (2011, Bedroom Community), left off; the eleven tracks telling an intriguing story with every minute that passes; his talent for heartwrenching melodies and melancholic lyrics shining through like never before.
Where En Garde introduced dream-like strings, Theatrics intertwines melody with mechanism; the album is as much a folk song fairytale as it is an exploration of electronic wonders.

Clubstar proudly presents a 25 Records Compilation: Sunday in Bed, Volume VII! CD1. We start with a beautiful edit of Barry Whites classic - Love Theme" by Orchestral Maneuvres In The Dark. l. Nick Waterhouse, the swinging darling of the rhythm & blues scene follows, then horror show with a crossover of rap and Beach Boys sound. We have the Brazilian icons Artur Verocai and Caetano Veloso on board, Amos Lee - who was No. 1 in the Billboard charts - with the hippie anthem - Flower" - and at the end the 18 minutes track - Druck" by Richard Wahnfried aka Klaus Schulze, who stood in the 80s like nobody else for the globally admired electro scene from Berlin. - Druck" was for many years standard repertoire in Munich posh club P1. So what! The track from 1981 is an incontestable masterpiece.CD2. The opener is - Outlines" by Alunageorge, the dream duo of British Dubstep. Next up are the newcomers Kan Wakan from L.A. with a mixture of Walker Brothers and France Galle, very opulent, very well arranged. The Temples, an interesting young rockband, follow. Malia and Boris Blank (the walrus mustache of Yello) with powerful-elegant synthie pop. Trombone Shorty, who took the most famous band from New Orleans, the Meters, after thirty years back into the studio, for his version of 'Be my Lady', William Fitzsimmons, one of the new stars of the singer/songwriter fraction. In the last third of the disc comes an electro sequence with the 14 minutes - Hold the Line" as climax. Etienne de Crecy produced the track in 2000. Nobody embraced experimentation more than him, nobody had more style. Watch out for the beautiful sample of Esther Phillips. At the end: FGTH, the un / forgotten... Sunday in Bed is a father / son project by Leo (1990) and Stefan (1956) Schmidt.

Im Herbst veröffentlicht Deutschlands erfolgreichster Elektronik-Künstler Schiller mit Symphonia ein einzigartiges Werk: Die Live-Aufzeichnung des Open-Air-Konzertes auf dem legendären Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin.
Das einmalige Live-Event ist eine ganz besondere Premiere: Erstmalig hat Schiller-Macher Christopher von Deylen die markantesten Songs seines langjährigen Schaffens zusammen mit einem grossen Symphonie-Orchester aufgeführt.
Songs wie 'Sehnsucht', 'Ein schöner Tag' oder 'Das Glockenspiel' wurden für diesen Anlass musikalisch vollkommen neu gestaltet - Schillers elektronische Klangwelten treffen auf epische Orchester-Arrangements.
Zusätzlich zu dem aus über 60 Musikern bestehenden Orchester hat Christopher von Deylen internationale Gastkünstler eingeladen: Midge Ure (Frontmann der britischen Elektronik-Pop-Pioniere Ultravox), die Schweizerin Jaël sowie die russische Ausnahme-Sopranistin Eva Mali. Gemeinsam mit dem Grafen von Unheilig hat Schiller erstmalig den Titelsong des Nummer-Eins-Albums Sonne live aufgeführt.
Symphonia dokumentiert diesen einmaligen Abend mit einer aufwändig gestalteten Super-Deluxe-Box.
Zu dem limitierten Box-Set gehören der beeindruckende Konzertfilm auf Blu-Ray und DVD sowie zwei Audio CDs mit stimmungsvollen Live-Aufnahmen des Events.

The Japanese producer Daisuke Tanabe is back on Ki for a full 15-track LP that will be released on a double 10' Vinyl. Tanabe was initially one of the first to contribute his music to the German imprint with the second release in the labels catalogue back in 2009. Some time has passed since then and the former Red Bull Music Academy participant has evolved even more and cemented his unique sound scape to a recognizable trademark. With his debut album - Before I forget', a few EP's, many Remixes and an album in collaboration with Kidkanevil as Kidsuke, he's now back for more on Ki. 15 tracks full of surprising twists and turns and genre defying sounds and rhythmic patterns. It was always hard to put Tanabe's production into one genre and it's not easier now. If you want to, you will definitely be able to put his music somewhere but you better listen closely and get lost in his incredibly deep and intelligent arrangements. It's an album that tells the listener a story. Which story that is It's solely up to the you.

THE SHIFFERS is Claudio Zanoni' solo Project . He is one of the Authors and Trumpet player for the Ridillo acclaimed outfit with Five Albums under their belt and numerous prestigious collaborations from Eumir Deodato to Gianni Morandi from Montefiori Cocktail to Orchestra Volare. Also responsible for a number of catchy TV Jingles for RAI and Mediaset TV productions. This project comes in parallel to their other activities and favours the instrumental aspect compared to the traditional 'song' format.
The diversity of the literary art that makes room to a less restrictive musical dimension in which to gather ideas more freely. The first album, titled 'The Incredible Adventures Soundtrack' was released back in 2007 and received unanimous praises all over the world from the generation nicknamed
'Cocktail Fans'. Several songs have been used on TV Commercials and Films including the Sony Playstation 'PS3 Slim' Ad which featured their explosive guitar driven track 'Body Down'. 'THE KALEIDOSCOPIC DREAMS OF A PARMESAN COWBOYS' is his second album, and it comes seven years after the previous one and it moves substantially in the same genre as the first one, in a kind of loyalty scheme trying to stay in line with what has worked so well in the past ! On one hand the instrumental aspect of the tracks is well taken care of but with an eye to the traditional song format which is always there, and the concept of the "kaleidoscopic" container in which to gather ideas freely, but always full of irony, wit and easy charm that evoke the musical references which are so dear to the author himself.so here they are the Bacharach inspired tracks, a touch of Bossa Nova, and the typical Italian B-movie soundtracks, the variety again which characterized the First Album.
Each track becomes a fascination, an emotional reference, a little soundtrack that for a moment takes care of us, taking us away from the noise of the everyday routine. For this new adventure The Shiffers choose to be guided through their music horizons, expanded even more and varied by a special mentor the 'Parmesan Cowboy', an imaginative character born between Via Emilia (Famous Emilia Romagna main Road) and the West, a perfect synthesis between belonging to a land (the Shiffers !) and an unspecified elsewhere strictly only imagined. Two years after his debut single he returns with a five track EP featuring 'I Wonder Why' and four other tracks. His previous work was recognised early by the Fader but instead of pumping out more releases, he took his time and the result is a great progression as a producer. Not only was the EP recorded at his home, different rooms were actually sampled in the process. All with an increased number of textured synths en better drumlines blending into an EP with a very organic sound.

Berlin based Vidab records is pleased to announce the debut album from accomplished musician and producer Tomas Svensson. Titled 'Am I Networked', the longplayer takes us into the mind of a true synthesiser enthusiast, whose beautifully played and precisely sequenced tracks have previously only seen light on a handful of EPs for the label.
Svensson, the Swedish born long-time Berlin resident, has years of experience playing in bands, on keys, synths and drums, and also worked alongside Vidab co-founder Oliver Deutschmann on their Rhodes-driven electronic project 'Subbroom Association'.
