Schlammpeitziger's album yields even more fruit. Six weeks after the release of his longplayer "What's Fruit" Pingipung releases this 12inch EP with remixes. The motley set of six electronic musicians and bands dice Schlammpeitziger's countless melodies into a delicious fruit salad! Candie Hank (Patric Catani) deals with the title track "What's Fruit" and beams the mantra-like vocals of the original unerringly to the dancefloor. Andreas Dorau, the infamous hero of German New Wave music form the 80s, is a year long companion of Schlammpeitziger. He sings about autumn leaves, on top of the instrumental hit "Balcony Sofaune", which is transformed into a disco piece by Dorau's producer sdfkt. (Golden Pudel Club, Hamburg). Springintgut dedicates himself to the complex melodic layers of "Pipe Claphorse", waves a giddy tambourine and tops it off with a three voiced cello chorus. The B side is opened by Mouse On Mars who turn "Balcony Sofaune" into an ever growing and collapsing bass monster, while focusing on the bold brass theme of the original. Thomas Mahmoud Zahl slows it down with a head- nodder. He thwarts the melancholy of "Schneid ein Stück aus der Zeit" with a stoically bouncing beat, which dubs and grooves like it wants to go on forever. Dub-Master hey (one half of Pingipung's Hey-Ø- Hansen) sends the same track through his studio, offers new harmonies with his quiet acoustic guitar and sugars it all with a galactic vocoder.

ll art has to be combined with the notion of outlast. this can be only realized when the energies of the expenditure do not disappear and get stored in the creation. to get this creative process started, an artist needs to open himself to the world collapsing upon him.

'a day in the life' - the brand-new ambient and beyond album by lawrence, confirms this assumption - yet no world really collapsed on the dj and producer from hamburg. instead his emotional perception danced upon friendship and wanderlust and he put together twelve tracks for an album dedicated to his long lasting relation to toshiya kawasaki, man of action behind labels like mule musiq, endless flight and mule electronic, and the artist stefan marx.

besides co-running the label dial and the mathew gallery in berlin lawrence is constantly releasing music on his own labels and befriended platforms like smallville records. furthermore the north german regularly contributes to kawasaki's imprints mule musiq and electronic. just recently he dropped the ep 'blue mountain' on mule musiq - a deep emotional foretaste of what 'a day in the life' delivers on album length.

the music he shares on his latest long player isn't linked to a special place or event. he mostly produced it up-road on his dj trips around the globe including toshiya's homeland japan. back in his cosy backyard studio in hamburg he finished all musical pieces and mixed them down with a lot of joy.

they are listening to great track names like "nowhere is a place" or "lost in joy", which allow in combination with the lovingly detailed sounds imaginative mind games. in terms of style ambient calls the tune and opens the genre into the wide open with the very own musical and emotive language of lawrence.

a track like 'nowhere is a place' spreads smoothly twisted spectral vibes with blurring sounds that could easily originate from alienated instruments like a damaru or a conch horn. lawrence himself keeps it secret and let the music speak for itself. sometimes soft sizzling noise slides under gentle balanced ambient air like in the track 'the visit'.

in other arrangements he let the chords dance with cute smacking electronic glimpses or odd slow-motion melodies remind on the work of hans-joachim roedelius and his love for the gentle swing.

all compositions float and sound like the improvisations of a virtuoso who has forgotten his virtuosity in order to drown real deep in his creations. for lawrence the album is 'a triple buddy record' as not only his emotional content is included in the finished product. also his friends stefan marx - who is in charge for the artwork - and mule musiq head toshiya kawasaki have been profoundly involved in the outcome.

'since ten years the three of us work together. the record shows this very nicely in terms of our love for ambient music and cover artwork. the cover shows stefan's sublet apartment in nyc - also a very ambient place.
the idea for the record emerged out of a sudden inspiration and this fits prefect to the way how toshiya runs a label where sharing a good natural wine is more important than marketing.'

Pig's Dance retouched by Rhythm Doctor is a journey, which remind to the very first Orb, without having to find similarities in all costs.

Being based in Sofia, Bulgaria, without a support network, a campaign or any media hype, his music alone - live and in the studio - created a momentum whose end we have yet to see. Lenin said: 'Communism is Soviet power + electrification of the whole country.' Hardly did Lenin suspect what an inspired take on these words could do: post-socialist techno. A child of 80's late socialism, KiNK grew up on the home computers Bulgaria's IT scientists had created by backwards-engineering Western technology. Fueled by nuclear energy on the edge of desaster, a whole generation of kids was trained to hack. Dance music gradually dripping in through early dial-up internet connections, the acoustic fingerprints of distant parties put Eastern producers from KiNK to Nina Kraviz to Vakula under a spell. Yet KiNK spent years of backwards-engineering the sounds of Detroit, Chicago and early Warp.

Working across a variety of media John Lemke explores all things sonic through live performance, sound design and his work as a documentary film composer. The Walizka EP is his latest solo release on Denovali Records. Three items in a suitcase, a clarinet, a looper and a microphone - is how it all started. A free improvisation with friend & collaborator Lukasz Bernacki (on clarinet) sparked John's desire to bring his compositional and production approach back down to the most basic elements. Creating simple, yet distinctive rhythms only through tapping contact microphones run into noisy guitar amps became the base for the EP's three tracks, consequently inspiring its live, lo-fi feel. Written and recorded between John's native Berlin and his adopted home of Glasgow, Walizka (Polish for 'suitcase') somehow absorbs the defining atmospheres of both cities in its core. Previously released digitally as a teaser for John's debut album, the Walizka EP actually presents newer material, progressing the electro-acoustic nature of 'People Do' towards more dub drenched territories. Tasos Giasiranis is involved into music in all it's forms ever since he can remember himself. At the age of 16 while deciding what will be his studies he found himself working as a radio producer in the island of Rhodes. Finally he studied politic sciences with a focus on international relations in the Athens Law School and during that time he had the chance to work with big radio stations of the city (Klik Fm, Kiss Fm). Since 2000 he is a radio producer at Rodos Radio 1 in the weekend 18:00 - 20:00 zone and his shows are broadcasted in New York and Berlin as 'Trade Mark Community' from several fellow radio stations. Being a Dj in the major clubs of Rhodes since the age of 19, as years went by Tasos Giasiranis created his own event philosophy that paid attention to every detail from communication and marketing to location and of course....music. Surrounded by a unique team of professionals, he is planning each event long upfront resulting to a successful result. His famous projects 'Starlight Club Mix - Music Voyages - Club Roots - Love House Elements - Trade Mark Commnity' soon left the borders of the island and were hosted worldwide from Athens to New York. Begun as a one-off collaboration in 2009, the trio of Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke and Oren Ambarchi has now become a solid working group, refining its craft through a series of annual concerts at Tokyo's legendary SuperDeluxe.  Much of their recorded work has focused on their intense, ritualistic take on the rock power trio of electric guitar, bass and drums, with last year's 'now while it's still warm let us pour in all the mystery' (BT09) containing a series of instant compositions of stunning power and concision that demonstrated how familiar and attuned to one another the three have become.

Presenting the entire first set of the trio's March 2013 concert at SuperDeluxe (the second set will follow on Black Truffle later this year), 'only   wanting to melt   beautifully away is it a lack   of contentment  that stirs affection   for those   things  said to be as of yet unseen', their fifth release,  blows the instrumental palette wide open for a single continuous piece focused on acoustic strings, synth, flute and percussion. Featuring one of Haino's most delicate and moving recorded vocal performances, the opening section of the record takes the form of a spare duet between O'Rourke's 12-string acoustic guitar and Haino's kantele (a Finnish variant of the dulcimer), behind which Ambarchi provides a hovering backdrop of wine glass tones. While on previous releases the listener has often sensed that Haino was firmly in the driver's seat, here O'Rourke takes centre stage with an acoustic guitar performance that takes the lyricism of John Abercrombie or Ralph Towner and refracts it through the free improvisation tradition of his mentors Derek Bailey and Henry Kaiser. The atmosphere of meditative, abstracted song is reminiscent of some of Haino's greatest recordings, such as the legendary 'Live In The First Year Of The Heisei' volumes recorded with Kan Mikami.

Doss bursts forth into our reality by stepping sideways from one where the 90s boom never ended - an alternate Earth of curved, shining surfaces and strobing colours. As a producer and singer exploring "Electronica" as a concept, Doss sidestepst the revivalist tag by reaching across genres, from trip hop and trance to liquid drum & bass and Eurodance, and warping them into something simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic. Perhaps what makes her music so vital is that she manages to avoid using her influences as obvious templates. One of the clichés about Scandinavian countries is that they are neat and tidy, well
ordered, clean. The same could not be said of Copenhagen four-piece When Saints Go
Machine's second full-length album, 'Infinity Pool'. The opposite, in fact. It's a record
born out of an atmosphere of chaos.
It's harder, darker and more synthetic than its predecessors. It opens with 'Love And
Respect', which features a guest vocal from Grammy award winning rap artist Killer
Mike, who freewheels over chugging, synth-drenched beat. Elsewhere, 'Dead Boy' sees
Vonsild's tremulous falsetto digitized and then floated over a semi-ambient sounds-
cape, while 'Infinity Killer' pitches skittering sound effects against a low-end drone.
On the previous album, 'Konkylie', we tried to make machines simulate nature,' says
Vonsild. 'With 'Infinity Pool' we were trying to capture a feeling of the absurdity of
mankind trying to construct nature. Maybe it's something to do with being in the city.
You are always influenced by what's going on around you.'
It's also to do with the music that inspired them. 'There are a lot of references to the
early '90s on the album,' says Vonsild. 'It's not a rave album, but there are a lot of
elements of rave on there. 'Degeneration' sums up what we were trying to do. There are
some tracks on the album that could almost have been rave songs under other circum-
stances. I think that it's one of the songs that I don't think anyone else would have
made.'
Rather than go at these rave influences full tilt, they did the opposite of what might be
expected: they stripped them down and twisted them into new shapes.
The dark undercurrent that coloured the band's previous releases is intact, then. It's
something that makes the fact that When Saints Go Machine won a string of awards in
their native Denmark last year all the more surprising. Vonsild is sanguine about that
kind of music industry approval.
While it's nice to be liked, Vonsild says it's far more important to challenge people as
well as yourself. He says they felt nervous about the direction they took on 'Infinity
Pool', unease that they were operating outside their comfort zone. 'But,' he adds,
'that's a good thing. Whenever you feel a bit scared about putting something out, that's
how you should feel as an artist.'

Often overlooked in American techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. No two finer exponents have there been than Minnesota's Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh. Their contributions date back to the early nineties when Freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like Labworks, EXperimental and his own Analog) - an activity that Paul took up a while later after debuting on Woody McBride's renegade Communique label in 1996.

Teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12", Paul and Freddy open with 'The Fate of Thirty Eight' - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose. 'Acid Sound of Malibu' sees Paul flying solo, laying down a teasing reverb-soaked warehouse cut where suggestive 303 frequency shifts jostle for centre stage, around a series of both bellowing and piercing sound fx.

On the b-side the pair team up again on 'Fifty Is Shifty': a distorted and demented electro workout if ever there was one. Think of Ed DMX + AFX, competing in a duel for the earth's last 808, and you're somewhere close. Closing the ep is Freddy's 'Year Back'. Originally released in 1998, it was squashed onto one side (with 5 other tracks) of his 'Last True Family Man' album on Eye Q. A hidden gem of that LP, it's an epic, spaced-out trip of pulsing electro that now gets the vinyl space it needs, as well as a beefy remastering.

At the time of releasing his debut album Prins Thomas was handling all the instruments his self. Nevertheless the idea allways existed to put together a proper band - consisting of professionals, but basically more like friends and friends of friends. Just for no other reason than having fun and jaming along like in the 'old days". And eventually ... the sparkling Prins Thomas Orkester was a result of this work. The tracks on the øVING EP are all reworks of the old back catalouge, recorded almost live in maximum two takes: slangemusikk, uggebugg and sauerkraut from the debut album - transformed into snake music, hamar bluesklubb and 'surkål". The occasional fisherman and graduated psychologist Vlad aka Monokle is responsible for the third LP on Ki Records. The Title of the Record is "Saints" and it will be available on Vinyl, CD and Digital. It's already the fifth LP release for the 26 year old producer from St. Petersburg. He's been making music since the mid-00s and has a massive creative output. As he says, he takes his inspiration from silence and Eric Satie is one of his biggest idols. His favorite label is Warp, so it's no wonder that some of the nine tracks do have reminiscences with the British label (e.g. Holt Found, Arrows or Homesick). But instead of quoting the sound of his big idols, he gives it an individual touch and continues the evolution of that certain kind of sound. His main Influences were IDM and Glitch, before he became more in touch with Ambient and Drone. All these different influences can be heard as sound fragments in his tracks. Like in a kaleidoscope, these fragments unite; get torn apart and in the end melt together again. Monokle says that "Music with simple rhythms and catchy beats gets him bored pretty quick". So he got rid of static listening and producing structures, to go his own way when creating music. The Vinyl version of Saints got three bonus tracks in the form of remixes by Fybe:one, WOLS and Milinal. The illustrations for the cover were made by Argentinean artist Carolina Nino. Just like Monokle she works with different shapes and pieces, bringing them together in a new context.
