Chroma - Territories/brain Strain

Renegade Hardware present - Chroma. Formed back in 2011, the Chroma crew crashed onto the scene right from the start, with essential tracks on Hardware, ProgRam, Commercial Suicide, and their very own Coded label. Subsequent releases have blown speakers and minds in equal measure, and now the Newcastle lads are back with the follow up to their Hardware release: Machine which featured on the heavyweight Limber EP.
* Territories lays its stall out early doors, with tight, remorseless drums leading into a dynamic, well-controlled build. The bassline clashes in soon after, and you know you are being set up for something big. That promise is paid off by something huge and unexpected. Chroma bring together everything they've become known for, with pulsating beats, eerie background samples and a driving, energetic arrangement. The low-end morphs, the effects come in and out, and you'll know you're in enemy Territories. As welcome an addition to the Renegade Hardware canon as you could wish for.
* Brain Storm meanwhile creates its atmosphere early on, with overarching synths establishing themselves, as colliding breaks sit waiting to release. Dubby, echoing bass paths are also thrown into the mix, and the drop is mighty. Dirty and grimy are the orders of the day on Brain Storm, as the producers let their imaginations fly and lead them into new areas. They take you deep down into the grubby underworld of drum & bass, with hints of early Icicle vibes.
* Territories/Brain Storm is undoubtedly Chroma's finest work so far, so make sure you are involved right from the get-go. HWARE30 is simply essential.
* Supported by a full press radio and DJ promotion campaign. Updates to follow.

Joe Ford - The Moment Feat. Tasha Baxter / Neon

* Joe Ford officially arrives in the most explosive style with his debut solo single release on Shogun Audio since signing exclusively to the label late last year. Showing off his skills with two contrasting slices of production powerhouse drum & bass, these will have dance floors rioting across the land for the rest of 2014.
* 'The Moment' is a juggernaut, a giant that rises from the depths every time it's played to deliver the most enjoyable sledgehammer hit you'll ever encounter. Featuring the enchanting vocals of Tasha Baxter on the intro, they dissolve into a supercharged build up into possibly the most raucous ride ever encountered on Shogun Audio. A contender for dance floor D&B tune of the year, this turns mice into men.
* Showing his softer side Joe drops the levels down just slightly with an effervescent piece of super-slick tech-step. More polished production shines through as 'Neon' fizzes over with smooth liquid keys riding over the top of some deceptively twisted bass to make for another essential slab of Joe Ford genius.

Fanu - Paracosm / Yin Dub

Fanu

Paracosm / Yin Dub

12inchLIGHTLESS006
Lightless Records
15.09.2014

* OVERVIEW: Fanu returns to the dark, mystical vibes he has always mastered. In every genre, there are tracks that come and go as well as those that will make an impact on the genre for years to come, paving a new path for more new stylistical innovations. 'Paracosm' falls into the latter category with its massive explosive soundwall of percussion= certainly never heard before in the 170 bpm realm. Regardless of the genre or tempo, Fanu's works have always been exploring the drums and a certain otherworldly atmosphere, and Lightless006 doesn't make an exception, either, as the flipside, catering for the slowfast heads, with its carefully-crafted percussion at 80 bpm and Far East atmospheres also proves. Few artists carry in their works a vibe similar to early Photek, but it can clearly be heard in Fanu tracks, once again. As Do Androids Dance put it: Fanu has done everything from drum & bass to broken beat, but he steps back up for his Lightless imprint to dive head-first into the hypnotic, deep sound of dnb, which is more about intense vibes that insane breakbeats. Fanu can do both, but sometimes you need to just throw on a hoodie and nod your head 'til your neck complains.

Following on from his track Planet Jazz, taken from LTJ Bukem's Jazz'n LP. mSdoS returns once again to goodlooking with Jazin. Stabbing chords interspersed with horns and a clever vocal sample over the breakdown. Smart production. Original idea.
(B1) Arp-1 - Westway
The flip side sees something completely different. For those who like their Drum & Bass aggressive, this is one for you. Firing breaks and energetic orchestral samples bring Arp-1's Westway to life.

Artificial Intelligence Ft. Drs / Loxy & Resound - Warhorse / Paradigms

* The wait is over- PB4 is here. Perhaps one of the most revered album series in drum & bass is back with a vengeance, and some are saying it maybe the best yet.
* First up we have the triumvirate of Glenn & Zula A.I and DRS with Warhorse - A very apt title for a very powerful, uncompromising and snarling stepper, DRS spits venom and gives way to a screwface-bassline that envelopes everything in its path. The very definition of war horse is well and truly on display here. As opener for PB4 it really sets the tone for the album- No bullsh*t Headz2014.
* On the flip we have two graduates from the university of Rufige- Loxy & Resound. Their contribution to the project is 'Paradigms', It's classic Headz flavour in that it's a perfect mix of light and dark. The intro is all about swirling synths, haunting vocals and effected percussion until the reese drops and the landscape quickly changes into a breakbeat accented step and three dimensional EFX.
* This 2 of 2 sampler for Platinum Breakz is a dancefloor led affair for DJs and dancers alike, but after you begin unwrapping the layers there is altogether different beast at hand.

Dom & Roland - Remember Your Rootz / Freeze

Dom & Roland is one of those producers that embody the true spirit of drum & bass. With over 150 releases, many of them
considered classics, he is true pioneer with 20 years drum and bass history.A fearless artist who's never been afraid to try something different. Remember your rootz: An amen track of thunderous proportions and heavy as it comes. This means serious business. Huge string pads pave the way for a barrage of rumbling bass that penetrates every inch of you. During this onslaught samples fly in and out to remind you of where drum and bass originated from, classic lost samples galore. When he staccato hardcore riff comes in at the middle, it creates complete mayhem on the listeners brain. This track has caused utter dance floor devastation whenever it's been dropped. Freeze: An diamond in the rough takes you straight back to the metalheadz sessions at blue note, It begins with huge searing strings before an exquisitely programmed breakbeat batters you around the head with a multitude of pots and pans. When the bass drops you it locks you down into the groove and will reduce many to shaking booty within seconds. we guarantee this will
have the entire club bouncing. Both of these tracks have had a lot of DJ support from the likes of Goldie, Audio, Break, Klute, and
many more.

Decibel - Decibel Ep

Decibel Ep

12inchTEC063
Tectonic
07.09.2012

Never shy of bringing new flavours to the table, once again it is time for Tectonic to introduce a new artist to their increasingly eclectic roster. Born and raised in London, Jay Fontaine aka Decibel later hopped over to Newcastle for a few years and now can be found based in Belfast. Jay is a producer with broad musical tastes and influences that have led to him making music that just doesn't quite fit in any one box. Over the four excellent EP tracks Decibel shows a winning ability to cherry pick the bits he likes from hip hop, crunk, dubstep, juke, hardcore, electro, pop, glitch, electronica and absorb them into his own world... in the wrong hands this could result in a right sonic mess, but Decibel brings these elements together quite naturally. The results are something along the lines of what might happend if Lil Wayne's producer Mannie Fresh sat down with Diplo, Girl Unit and Rustie to make a beat, fuelled only by Red Bull. While 'G.A.P.' and 'M.S.T.' take things along a bit more of a pounding hip hop / dubstep sub-bass line, 'Miss' and 'Gyal' see a more melodic and glitchy side come out. All four tracks are pure unique quality. Already this exciting producer is tickling a wide range of interested heads, with DJ and radio support coming in strong from the likes of Sinden, Mistajam, Benji B, Doorly and Toddla T as well as MJ Cole, Drop The Lime and many more... Get involved!

Various - Drum & Bass On Demand 2

Counting almost three years in the game now, Demand Records have set themselves a mammoth task. To continually release music
that cuts through the mounting levels of hype that surround the drum and bass scene of 2013 while retaining an edge of experimental
innovativeness is no easy feat.
Luckily, by pushing the task onto the greatest talents of the deep, dark and creative side of the scene, the label have achieved exactly
what they set out to do. Drum & Bass on Demand 2 is a collection of darkly intelligent beats from some of the label's biggest stars,
as well as some incredible new talents.
Released on a huge 14-track CD with a vinyl-only 12' featuring exclusive pressings of tracks by Abstract Elements and Pennygiles &
Mr Josef operating on an 'order now or or regret it later' basis, Demand are proving once again why they remain one of the genre's
best loved labels.
From Troy Gunner's atmospheric wanderings in first track 'Capacity', the scene is set for a totally different type of d&b vibe.
Dropping into the crystalline claps and soaring beauty of Cursa's 'CRNR', then switching directions completely for the angular techy
swerve of Bredren 'The Truth', there's no let up in originality.
Detail & Linden push back with high-pressure bass and kicks full of coiled-up power in 'The Limits' and then Cursa returns with
Subliminal and Axlr for some dark, minimal hard-stepping danger in 'Camino', with Mindmapper & Fre4knc's remix adding punch
to empty atmos and gravelly bass.
The dream trio of Roygreen & Protone & Pennygiles pick up their first spot on the compilation with a VIP of their dancefloor slayer
'Misunderstanding' - a dark and dirty re-fit that somehow improves on perfection. Following that, the unstoppable forces of War,
Overlook & Mateba collaborate on 'Scared', a tune that's submarine deep and laden with neck-snapping breaks amid paranoid
atmospherics.
Keeping things submersed ten thousand leagues below, Pennygiles' second track on the album sees the Welsh wonder working with
Mr Josef on 'Underwater City', a juxtaposition between light, bright melodies and the deepest, wobbliest, filthiest bass it's possible
to wrench out of a sub. Roygreen & Protone then step back in with a response in 'Shady', stepping and posturing all over the floor
with minimal sounds and rapidfire percussion.
There's no let up though, as next up, Gamma smashes in with 2347, a huge tune worthy of destroying any club no matter where, no
matter what time it is. Irresistibly deafening bass, immaculate percussion, growly half-vocals - it's got it all.
If you thought techy rollers were missing from the equation, Eastcolors & Krysiz have got you covered. The crisp breaks and stressy
synths in 'No One Knows' pull together to create a true icy rollout, classic Eastcolors style. Following suit, Linden & Detail push a
claustrophobic atmosphere around barely-contained neuro tweaks and a big, bouncing bassline with 'Fringe'.
MTWN has been spreading his devastation around the scene for some time now, but in 'Voices' his knack for inspired percussive
breaks and the most destructive deep, dark bass with minimal effort really pushes through. Following this with some smooth liquid is
a steep request, but Qbig & Zenith B pick up the pace beautifully with the soaring, rolling lushness of 'Science' featuring the
velveteen vocals of MC Fava.
The two exclusive vinyl-only tracks kick off with Abstract Elements' neurofunk electrical storm that is 'Saturn', a steely rollout
through buzzing synths and rapidly morphing basslines.
Pennygiles & Mr Josef hit the studio together once more on b-side 'Overdrive Melody', an homage to the glory days of hardcore
and the emergence of jungle-breakbeat crossovers. There's something different about this stone-cold thriller - not only is it massive,
it's fun. You don't get to say that with a genuine smile on your face about a d&b track very often, do ya
Demand Records always looks beyond the limits of drum & bass to see what else the genre can achieve. Challenging listeners and
pushing producers to their limits, 'Drum & Bass on Demand 2' showcases the complete audio ethos of the label itself.
Light and shade, elegant rhythms and dirty bass - intelligent noise. It's the Demand way, you should know that by now.

Dlr & Script Ft. Martyna Baker / Digital - Blue Room / Mini Cooper

* The wait is over- PB4 is here. Perhaps one of the most revered album series in drum & bass is back with a vengeance, and some are saying it maybe the best yet. This release is one of two samplers preceding the album.
* First up on this 12' sampler we have cohorts DLR & Script with the Headz vocalist of choice Martyna Baker whom you may be familiar from her work with Goldie and Lenzman. The track opens as a gliding, subconscious led number that is wrapped in Martyna's velvet vocal. As the track moves towards its drop it becomes clear the vocal is a paranoid and claustrophobic affair and it reflects the instrumental very well in that the beautiful atmos draped intro becomes a mid-range bass led growler.
* The second track on sampler one is by Headz veteran Digital donning his dubstep hat. As you would expect with Digital he has taken it right back to the essence of dubstep as opposed to what it has become. Delay and reverb laden Mini Cooper is sinister in its execution, It's a single light moving around a dark dancehall, typical Digital vibes on this, it's a welcome return to the label for Mr Carr.

* A legend on the rise, 2013 marked the rejuvenation of one the most important labels in D&B's history. With a renewed mission to release the hardest, most dance floor focused tracks, Bryan Gee's Chronic is once again synonymous for heavyweight, bass-fuelled riddims. After a year that saw the label launch a brand new look with the mighty Chronic Rollers as well as releases from L-Side, Sativa Dub and Silent Type, Chronic is now ready to drop its most exciting project yet - the gully sounds of 'Warehouse Music'.
* Kicking off 2014 in style, Warehouse Music takes D&B back to its roots on an undeniably deadly new compilation album.
* Roni Size returns to Chronic with 'Blind Alley' - pure dancefloor fire the way only Mr Size who's how. Already supported by MistaJam, Eddy Temple Morris and more. The man responsible for the classic 'Friday', the mighty Capone heads up the flip with 'I'll Be Your' with an old skool influenced, hard hitting beats and bass that hits right to your chest.
* Optiv & BTK who usually represent the techier side of the D&B spectrum delivers a classic, ragga tinged Chronic roller that has been getting support from Friction and Crissy Criss. Serum rounds of EP with 'Energy', a track which definitely lives up to its name combining evil bass stabs with stepping srums.

Hailing from Nottingham UK with releases already on the likes of V Recordings, Good Looking, Innerground and more, Dramatic is a talent that knows how to construct some of the most soul searching drum & bass in 2013.
* Hinging the whole track around the dazzling opening piano loop 'Keep Pushing Me' is a real breath of fresh air full of sweeping pads and a solid break that rides along underneath. As the vocal drifts in so does the warm rising sub and strings while the incessant keys keep lifting us up until the every end. A sublime slab of peak-time performance.

every 21st century junglist grinning from ear to ear.
* Across the board club support for the Emperor remix from the likes of S.P.Y, Enei, Doc Scott, Fabio, Pascal, June Miller,
DC Breaks, Marky, Camo & Krooked, Spectrasoul.

Loadstar - Future Perfect Remixes 2x12"

* OVERVIEW: What a year it's been for Loadstar. Exceeding every possible expectation with their debut album 'Future Perfect' in May 2013, the duo won critical props and appreciation from every possible corner: from The Guardian to Mixmag, Hype to High Contrast, MTV to Radio 1... Love for Loadstar has been overwhelming. Naturally the love goes both ways. Here the Bristol duo provide an early Christmas reboot bundle, bringing 2013 to a fittingly heavy climax.
* First up is a remix from Loadstar themselves. Flipping the switch on their electro-bass burn-up 'Losing You', they ante up with pummelling drum dynamics and a bassline that screams bona fide murderation. True subversive heavyweightism.
* Up next, 'Need You'. It began as a turbo-charged techno monster. Now, under the careful spell of Frankee, it's a rush-coated, star-gazing roller built on a solid bed of bass textures. Twinkling and terrorising in equal measure, Frankee once again shows why he's been rated as one of drum & bass's brightest prospects. Those hungry for jugular-focused damage should jump on DC Breaks' take on 'Give It To Me'. Riddled with insane levels of energy and attitude, this is strictly peaktime business right here, confirming the duo's current do-no-wrong status.
* Rene LaVice is also on chop-slapping form with his incendiary rub. Processing the demonic dubsteppy intentions of the original into a rocket-powered stepper, it has the sound (and impact) of someone setting fire to entire firework factory and running off at full speed. Genuine audio damage.

Mako, Villem, Dlr & Ant Tc1 / Mako, Villem & Dlr - Hungry For Atmosphere / A Certain Flavour

* Metalheadz kicks off a very exciting 2014 with a new team of producers for the label.
* Firstly introducing Mako and DLR who are already starting work on their forthcoming combined Metalheadz album project, alongside we have the fledgling talents of Villem and the elder statesmen of the scene Ant TC1 who in his own right has had a hand in a fair share of memorable releases and himself heads up Dispatch Recordings and Metalheadz.
* META015 is project that shows a great depth in the talents of the foursome, it's a beauty and the beast affair, fantastically executed in the great tradition of Metalheadz.
Kicking off with 'Hungry For Atmosphere' this stepper is a perfect set opener, heartfelt strings and keys give way to contorted mids and FXs, whilst the familiar vocal is processed into something altogether more sinister. The track clocks at just over 7 minutes and this says everything of the tracks ambitions, not pandering to anything but its own journey.
Next to step into the ring is 'A Certain Flavour' the opposite but yet perfectly paired track to go with the A side. Beginning with a very cinematic introduction it unravels into a growling bass led stepper with staccato drums before switching into a two-step drum work out, tailor made for dancefloors and DJs alike.
* A release that we are very happy to kick 2014 off with, welcome to the new breed!

Rene Lavice - Where My Ladies At/i Want More

Canada's most accomplished drum & bass ambassador, Rene LaVice has some big plans for 2014... And they start right here. Showcased by Andy C on his mind-blowingly massive 'Nightlife 6' opus, both 'Where My Ladies At' and 'I Want More' slam, sizzle and surge with contemporary production muscle. Let's press play... 'Where My Ladies At' achieved cult status when Andy used it to slap Zane Lowe into submission during a live battle on Radio 1. The savage bass tears, stark iced-out hook and crazed funk flurries on the fills caused instant online riots from the fans. When you hear it, you'll instantly understand why. Complete with a mischievous vocal sample and explosive dynamics, it's LaVice at his most deadly and direct. 'I Want More' is equally stunning. Cooking with the most authoritative rave ingredients with euphoric command, LaVice opens with a show-stopping synth hook. Wholly complemented by a soul-stirring vocal loop, it's an ode to the deepest foundations of the dance while glaring confidently into the future. Galvanised by rich, raw bass and pummelling drums, we guarantee this will have the entire club bouncing. With more unique firing fusions locked and loaded for the near future, LaVice is set to have an incredible 2014. Stay tuned for more heavyweight material very soon.
