Seasoned sunset soundtrack label-owner, DJ and composer Mark Barrott returns with new album The Exit Diaries. Knocked Loose have announced their hotly anticipated new album, A Different Shade of Blue -- a mammoth of a sophomore release and massive step forward for the band and for hardcore and metal as we know it. Recorded by producer Will Putney, the new LP was approached slower and more methodically. Abandoning the previous 'live in studio' recording approach for something more deliberate, the band cranked out twelve new tracks that deal with all manner of anger, especially loss in lieu of absence. This solo percussion work was recorded in 1980 and released in 1981 by Masahiko Togashi, one of Japan’s leading percussionists and drummers. After becoming partially paralyzed, he created this recording of a world of sound using drums, bells, gongs, and a wide variety of percussion instruments, together with his own original playing methods and techniques.

Terumasa Hino’s brilliant New York session, which drew attention for its thrilling collaboration with former members of the Miles Davis Group, is set to be reissued as the sixth title in the "Spin This Now!" series. Featuring Terumasa Hino on trumpet, John Scofield on guitar, Ron Carter on bass, and Tony Williams on drums. Recorded in New York City on May 7, 1977.

Als John Coltrane 1965 für Impulse! Records das Album “Ascension“” aufnahm, war er sowohl in künstlerischer als auch in kommerzieller Hinsicht einer der erfolgreichsten Jazzmusiker. Das Album besteht
aus einem fast 40-minütigen Stück, das am 28. Juni 1965 im Rudy Van Gelder Studio in zwei verschiedenen Takes (Edition I und Edition II) aufgenommen wurde, die nun erstmals gemeinsam auf einer
Doppel-LP präsentiert werden. Für die Aufnahme hatte Coltrane sein bestens eingespieltes Quartett um
sieben Musiker zu einer Art Big Band erweitert. Die Musik, die Coltranes entschiedene Hinwendung zur

Am 14. Mai 1958 versammelte der Gitarrist Kenny Burrell im Manhattan Towers Studio in New York
sieben hochkarätige Musiker um sich, um im Stil einer lockeren Jamsession bluesige Originale, Balladen
und Standards für zwei Alben aufzunehmen. Während “Blue Lights, Volume 1” noch im selben Jahr von
Blue Note veröffentlicht wurde, erschien “Blue Lights, Volume 2” erst 1961. Das Cover ziert eine Illustration des damals noch relativ unbekannten Andy Warhol. Auf All About Jazz pries Marc Davis den “wirklich
demokratischen” Charakter dieser Jamsession und schrieb: “‘Blue Lights’ bietet eine wunderbare Mischung
aus bluesigen Stücken - daher auch der Titel des Albums - und traditionellem Bop-Spaß, darunter eine
ziemlich mitreißende Version von Duke Ellingtons ‘Caravan’.”

Mit dem Solo-Piano-Album “Black Mozart“ setzt der mehrfache Grammy- und Oscar-Preisträger Jon
Batiste seine “Batiste Piano Series“ fort. Der Vorgänger “Beethoven Blues“ stieg 2024 auf #1 der Billboard Classical Charts und begeisterte Jazz- und Klassik-Fans, sowie Kritiker zugleich.
Mit “Black Mozart (Batiste Piano Series Vol. 2)“ will Jon Batiste sein Konzept weiterführen, klassische Musik neu zu interpretieren, ohne ihren Kern zu verlieren. Er verbindet Mozarts Musik mit kraftvollem
Jazz, Blues und Gospel – ein ungekünstelter Dialog zwischen klassischer Musik und afroamerikanischen
Traditionen, ein Pianoalbum, das überrascht und begeistert.

nimmt sowohl in der Diskografie des estnischen Komponisten als auch im ECM-Katalog einen besonderen
Platz ein. “Für Alina”, geschrieben 1976, war für Pärt eine bahnbrechende Komposition und zugleich
symbolisch der Ausgangspunkt für die folgenden Werke. „Ich könnte meine Musik mit weißem Licht vergleichen, das alle Farben enthält“, sagte Arvo Pärt damals. „Nur ein Prisma kann die Farben aufteilen und
sichtbar machen; dieses Prisma könnte der Geist des Zuhörers sein.“ Zeitgenössische Rezensenten meinten,
dass das aufmerksame Verfolgen des Flusses von Alina die Wahrnehmung schärfe. Gramophone beschrieb
das Album als „die Stimme eines inneren Exils, in sich gekehrt und zutiefst persönlich, aber für jeden
zugänglich, der bereit ist zuzuhören. Die große Gefahr beim Hören von Alina besteht darin, dass vieles von
dem, was man danach hört, plötzlich wie Lärm wirkt – zu viel Lärm. Aber es ist ein Risiko, das einzugehen
sich lohnt.“

Composer Vasco Mendonça presents his third album “Third Places”. The album brings together a collection of landmark performances and features some of the leading names in international contemporary music, including countertenor Iestyn Davies, mezzo-soprano Barbara Kozelj, the Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra, the ensemble Het Muziek, and conductors Brad Lubman and Ernest Martínez Izquierdo.

More than just a record, “Third Places” stands as a space for artistic and political reflection on the present. Inspired by Ray Oldenburg’s concept of the ‘third place’ – a space beyond home and work where community life takes place – the album’s title refers to the venues where these works came to life, Casa da Música and the Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ in Amsterdam: spaces for encounter, dialogue and cultural resistance. For Vasco Mendonça, these spaces symbolise “the ability to elevate the way we communicate with one another and to resist our most primitive and violent impulses”.

The voice lies at the heart of this work. The compositions explore the theatrical, intimate and political dimensions of vocal expression, drawing on texts of great social and emotional weight to create a shared space for listening and questioning the current state of the world.

One of the album’s central works stems from a profound contemporary concern. Inspired by the turbulent political climate in the United States following the 2016 elections and by his discovery of the poetry of Terrance Hayes and Tracy K. Smith, Vasco Mendonça composed a cycle of songs initially conceived for voice and percussion, later transposed for orchestra. The result is described by the composer as “a kind of imaginary American folklore”, where excess, transcendence, fascination and fear coexist.

The album also includes a reworking of material from the opera “Bosch Beach”, created in 2016 to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Hieronymus Bosch, commissioned by the Dutch foundation Stichting Bosch 500. Based on a libretto by the writer Dimitri Verhulst, the work reflected on the European migration crisis through a scathing portrait of human indifference. In “Third Places”, Mendonça revisits some of this musical material to construct an incisive reflection on contemporary political discourse, transforming the opera’s numbers into archetypes of election campaigns, populism and performative communication.

Straddling contemplation and confrontation, lyricism and political tension, “Third Places” stands as one of the most ambitious recording projects in contemporary Portuguese music, offering an experience that is both aesthetic and critical, where music and thought intersect in a visceral way.

The digital version of the album will include a bonus track, “Marathon”, which explores the analogy between music and long-distance running, creating a piece in which time is transformed through breathing, the heartbeat and the ritualised repetition of movement and the body, in a constant tension between exhaustion and survival.

For this new 45, "Matasuna Records" returns to the "ATCO" and "Atlantic" vaults, pairing two distinct cuts from the 1960s New York Latin music landscape.

On the A-side, "The Harvey Averne Dozen's" "You’re No Good" blends warm "Latin Soul crossover" with a steady mid-tempo groove and vibraphone-led arrangement. The flip side features "Louie Ramirez & His Orchestra's" "Mueve la Cadera" – a percussion and brass-driven "Boogaloo" recording full of movement, tension and energy.

Two contrasting yet complementary sides, now officially back on 45.

We had a few Ellis Dee releases in the pipeline and thought it would be a nice nod of respect to the master don if we created a special sleeve that showed a snapshot of his history in the scene. Designed by Beagle (NARC) we asked Roy to share with us a bunch of his photos spanning all the way back to the start of the 90's. The sleeve is a specially made 7mm spine, full colour affair and we have only created 200 of them, so this will be a very limited and a future collectors piece.

Höga Nord Rekords have reached an important goal and releases a rare box set containing all 12” from the HNRUK-series plus a new record from Birds, unique for this box. Except Birds, this compilation includes Dark Strands, High Boys, Vox Low, Timothy J. Fairplay, Fontän, Bird Of Paradise, Mythologen, Jamie Paton and Frak.

The music is of course the main focus of all releases on Höga Nord Rekords but what birthday gift comes without a proper wrapping? This exclusive handmade box made in Norrmalms kartongfabrik in Stockholm, is a celebration to the Scandinavian Bronze age. You’ll find rock carvings like those on the artwork scattered over the land but mostly near Gothenburg, home of Höga Nord Rekords on the Swedish west coast.

Archaeological evidence proves similarities in ornaments and pictures between the Nordic and European Bronze age, just like you find common features in the music released on our label. Though the acts in this compilation box come from all over Europe and beyond, they stem from an obscured and mysterious common source of escapism, purity and creativity.

Regarded by many as the greatest funk album of all time, ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ was recorded at United Sound in Detroit & included a live track from their concert appearance at the Monroe Civic Center in Louisiana in April 1978. The band’s tenth studio album released during September 1978 was also their most commercial & gave the band their first platinum disc. The iconic title track was an international hit and a US R&B No.1. With lead guitarists Michael Hampton & Eddie Hazel dazzling, the personification of funk Bootsy Collins on bass, Bernie Worrell & Walter “Junie” Morrison’s keyboard wizardry & many more, the album was produced by the genius of George Clinton. Regularly ranked at or near the top of various “best album” lists, ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ is mastered for vinyl in a deluxe facsimile gatefold sleeve with booklet & lyric inner sleeves, all housed in a protective PVC sleeve. Split System, the Aussie group featuring Jackson Reid Briggs (Jackson Reid Briggs & The Heaters) on vocals and Arron Mawson (Stiff Richards) on guitar, took the punk world by storm with its debut EP this past spring. That was hardly surprising given the talent involved. But whatever my expectations were for Split System, the Melbourne-based outfit far exceeded them. Not just another "super group" (also on board are guitarist Ryan Webb Speed Week, bassist Deon Slaviero, and drummer Mitch McGregor [No Zu]), Split System is straight-up one of the most powerful and exciting punk rock and roll bands of recent memory. The band's EP was a smasher, and now debut album Vol. 1 emphatically follows suit. My god, this record is a monster! Essentially Split System's sound is classic Aussie punk. That may sound like nothing new, but this band executes the style with a force and fury rarely heard these days. It doesn't hurt that Jackson Reid Briggs is one of the best rock and roll screamers going. He's got a fire inside of him. Meanwhile, Mawson and Webb form one hell of a guitar tandem. And that rhythm section is insane. These are all brilliant players who come together to make an extraordinary band. Vol. 1 comes storming out of the gates with "The End" and never lets up. Of course we knew some of the previously-released tracks ("Hit Me," "Demolition," "Climbing") were going to rip. But the newer material is just as good and will just about melt your face off. Songs like "Ringing In My Head" and "Grip" are pure energy and ferocity, while closing track "Feelings" has a mellowed-out Saints feel. This band knows how to rock and roll, and there are literally no songs on this album that don't entirely kick ass. Sometimes we think of these all-star groups as "side projects," but such categorization would sell Split System woefully short. If we're talking about the top three or four punk bands in Australia right now, this has to be one of them! Josh Rutledge/ Faster and Louder

An absolute, hard-charging funk hammer from the Dap-Kings - an incredible instrumental co-written and co-produced by Dapper Bosco Mann and Kenny Dope! If "Nervous Like Me" has a title that reflects some kind of apprehension, the track is anything but! It's simply pummeling - with a rhythm that kicks out from some stealth bongo and rolling trap that build into some playful guitar and bass response until the horns crash and boom! The beats on the flip isolate the funky drums, providing a sizzling beat track.

Emotec is back with a corker of a release from Auto Sound City. An Assembly of Beats, sounds and memories taken from the Primordial Soup of early life, toe tapping and head nodding right into 2023.
