We are proud to bring DJ Gemini onto the Vinyl Fanatiks roster with this gigantean 12" and originally released in 1993 on Liquid Wax. This release was engineered back then by Alex Reece when he was assistant engineer to Jack Smooth at his Sound Entity Studios.

The Late Night Tales compilation is a bit of a ‘stealth’ project for me personally. I’m very proud of it, but at the time, I probably didn’t appreciate it as much as I do now because there was so much going on. You do these things in-between touring and you don’t really have time to reflect on them because you’re immediately onto the next thing. It’s nice to know that it’s getting re-released. George Evelyn - Nightmares on Wax May 2024 This ain't no normal nightmare, kid. This is Nightmares On Wax, aka DJ EASE, aka George Evelyn. Born under a bad sign, with lino in hand, Mr. Evelyn went forth into the world and breakdanced (brokedance?). It's what you did in the 80s when you were young, loved hip hop and couldn't rap for toffee. When house arrived they turned their clever hands to it. Bleeps and beats is what it was. That's what everyone said. But there was always a bit more than a bunch of bleeps to what Nightmares On Wax did. The north never really took the name very seriously (Sweet Exorcist even named their album Clonk as a pisstake). Then George flipped the script and went and did Smokers Delight, the beats not so much seminal as semolina: gloopy and slow and sweet and lovely. And now we have this: a 2024 reissue of his seminal Late Night Tales compilation. Tom Scott's 'Sneakin' In The Back' — one of the most sampled beats in hip hop — makes an appearance in its full glory, while Quincy Jones, the inspiration for NOW's 'Nights Interlude', backs up the classics with ‘Listen (What It Is)’. Evelyn's hip hop sensibility is to the fore throughout and nowhere is this more evident than on ‘Intergalactic Throwdown' by former Freestylers' DJ, Mad Doctor X. And can we forget the sublime version of the Classic IV's 'Spooky' by darling Dusty? No, we can't. Finally — oh, finally! — there is the now-traditional cover version, with George serving up a soupy version of 'Brothers On The Slide' that gives a nod of respect to the original British funk soul brothers, Cymande. This ain't no nightmare at all: it's Nightmares On Wax.

A diverse ensemble spanning the House-spectrum, on the A-side we take a more deep and funky approach with UC Beatz bringing his known groovy flavours. Followed by Rawdio with some piano house vibes and bendrik keeping it fresh and crispy as always.
The B-side takes a more clubby turn with Deeleegenz dropping the snares and shuffled percussion in his Deep Jackin tune. Followed by Max Telaer who shows a darker side from himself with an absolute stomper that will set fire to the dancefloor.

This is one of Phantasy’s many aliases. ‘Get On The Floor’ is a jungle-techno stomper, created in the same studio that invented that genre. Where as ‘Welcome To The Underworld’ has very strong Liquid Aliens vibes about it.

As always with anything on Liquid Wax, these tracks are big club releases as Phantasy was testing them out at all the raves in the early 90’s. But Phantasy always has a trick up his sleeve that makes his music sound incredibly original and still fresh to this day, 31 years later!

For release number 5 on vinyl-only label and blog, Bare Bones Wax enlist a couple of new artists to their roster. Valencia based Camiel Daamen offers up two original tracks, while Berlin based Johannes Ortlieb offers up a remix of both compositions. Over his active 24 years, Camiel has released on various labels such as In-house , Viva and Origins alongside many others. Last year also saw the start of his own Freeborn Records which included the release of his own Beatport top 10 smash “Ready For Love”. Johannes has releases on mainstays such as Al Bradley’s 3AM label and Fluid.

Up first on the A1 is the title track “Quintaesencia”, Camiel blends deep beats with swing fuelled hats and Garage licks alongside an uplifting vocal to create a dancefloor monster. On the A2 Johannes takes a modern Deep House feel interlacing the subbase and vocals with cracking affect. Over on the flip “Make Music” opts for a more techy feel with driving beats and a spoken vocal giving a nice pumping feel. Johannes second remix of “Make Music” finishes off the EP taking the track in a tougher Deep House direction that could have come straight from New York.

"‘Soil’ by Amsterdam-based producer and musician Jelee is heavily influenced by video game world-building. Like a beat alchemist, he carefully pours his love for beats into his lifelong passion for video game soundtracks. That far exceeds your typical 8-bits and bobs: Soil unfolds like a challenging adventure game, held together by a sonic palette of hip-hop-minded drum programming, jazz-inspired chords, and synthesized sounds.

The album features tight-knit homegrown collaborations with jazz multi-instrumentalist Guido Hoek, rising deejay Jerrau, producer lofi prototype (“one of Amsterdam’s best-kept secrets when it comes to beatmaking,” says Jelee), deejay, producer, and keyboardist Mo Wrights, and singer Erosi. With influences ranging from Brainfeeder’s roster to Zelda games, Jelee presents a multifaceted take on music.

Jelee’s music has been featured on compilations by Resilienza Records, Stamp The Wax, and Carista’s ‘Modern Intimacy Volume 1.’ Jelee is also known for his expressive live sets, such as the support act for Onra, Samiyam, and Salami Rose Joe Louis."

Surfing on a sun-drenched wave of psychedelia comes Brighton's very own Merry Pranksters, Wax Machine. Primarily recorded and mixed in a closet room directly above a mortuary, their self-produced album Hermit's Groove is a heady trip through progressive psychedelia, kitsch Italian library music and Brazilian tropicalia.

The result is a fantastic v.a. ep called "Slap Wax 1" with track by Samuel Deep, Locklead, William Caycedo and Julian Alexander!

The Bronx rapper Tim Dog released his 1991 debut Penicillin on Wax to a hostile audience. Ever a king of controversy, he made a million enemies with his provocative single "Fuck Compton," a shameless attention ploy dissing N.W.A., DJ Quik, and America's entire Pacific Coast. Penicillin on Wax contains more of the same, as Tim trashes everybody from Kwame to Michel'le to Eddie Murphy. The lyrical insults were arguably the opening salvo in what would later become the East Coast versus West Coast hip hop conflict.

There's no doubt that Penicillin On Wax remains one of the true hardcore hip hop classics and one of many landmarks in sounds from the Bronx. Produced by probably the best hip hop producers of the early 90s, the Ultramagnetic MC's, this album contains some of the most energetic tracks you'll ever hear. Guest appearances on the mic from Kool Keith and Ced-Gee also enhance the LP.

Penicillin On Wax is available on black vinyl and includes an insert.

You have to wonder why Railcard took so long to be born: their debut album feels like it should have been in your collection for years.


But it wasn’t until 2025 that Rachel Love (Dolly Mixture), Ian Button and Peter Momtchiloff (both Heavenly) met at a gig, realised that they were exactly the same age, and decided that this was an excellent reason to form a new band. The shared history, the same pop references, the parallel lives… Railcard had to happen, and there was no time to lose. Two Steps At A Time - the album title and theme song - express exactly how quickly Railcard have worked since then - jumping over pavement cracks and whistling past graveyards to get these songs written, recorded and released while they are still sweet and fresh.


The band released three digital EPs in early 2026, which were then gathered onto a CD and released by Skep Wax and Slumberland. They sold out very quickly. The critical response to a mail-order-only CD was far greater than anyone expected.


Railcard made their live debut in December 2025 and had by then recruited their fourth member: Allison Thomson (Trash Can Sinatras, The Love Band), whose flawless trumpet and swirly keyboard-playing complete the Railcard sound, allowing the band to fulfil the significant ambition and range of the songs, which are mostly co-written and often co-sung by Love and Button. “Flannelette” and “Sunday Sun”, delicate and swoony, could almost be Slapp Happy at their most Bacharach. “Foxy”, mysterious and charming, has more than a hint of Kate Bush December magic. The raucous duet “I’m A Disaster” is The Kinks meets deadpan Shangri-Las. The title track could have been an alternative theme tune for Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads. “Runaround” is like a school choir doing The Raincoats. “Unstable Neighbour” is mesmerising and insistent: it might make you think of Stereolab; we might imagine an indiepop Hawkwind. Peter Momtchiloff also contributes two wonderful songs on the album: the fragile and hallucinatory “Paper Thin” and the Love-meets-Undertones rush of “Hillman Minx”.


As with the first EPs, Railcard enlisted the sonic services of Medway psych expert Allan Crockford (of The Prisoners, James Taylor Quartet and many more) who has delivered mixes that pump with vintage valve energy and reverby depth.

Originally released in 2004 on DJ Spinna’s Wonderwax imprint, The Free Radikalz’ “Open Up” returns to wax. A timeless slice of soulful, groove-heavy house, now given the 2026 remaster treatment and ready to shine on the dancefloor once again.

Ben Quad is a tightly-wound emo outfit with just the right balance of delicate vulnerability, careening guitar-driven energy, and melodic ingenuity. Despite tongue-in-cheek proclamations of being “emo butt-rock,” the Oklahoma City-based quartet take their songcraft seriously, and the result is a vibrant chemical blend of winning sensitivity, a charming dash of goofiness, and propulsively hooky, cleverly-written gems. With the release of their debut full length, I’m Scared That’s All There Is, the band established themselves as a band to watch. Brooklyn Vegan has raved “mix of sincerity, hooks, and adrenaline is always a winning formula when it’s done well, and Ben Quad do it very, very well.”

Hot Mulligan writes songs for people to sing as loud as possible. 15 pop songs about animals by 15 of the best indiepop bands in the world: Pets Sounds is as simple as that. Ranging from the playful (Sassyhiya, Gay Skeleton Club) to the heartbreaking (Caleb Nichols, Jetstream Pony) to the enigmatic (Railcard, Oh Hippo) to the satiric (The Magnetic Fields, Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires), there's more diversity on this album than you can shake a stick at. Or throw a bone at. The LP comes with a full colour insert and the CD comes with a booklet featuring artwork by Elodie Ginsbourg. Musicians spend a lot of time working at home, with their pets for company. The pets sit around, happy in their own worlds, sublimely indifferent to their humans' endeavours. As familiar as family members, but as unknowable as aliens, pets are the perfect muse. They can be treated as objects of adoration - `Rufus' by Tugboat Captain is an expression of pure joy - or they can be treated as metaphors. More reliable than lovers but less dangerous than heroin, pets are a great vehicle for singing obliquely about something else. Swansea Sound's `I Don't Like Men In Uniform' is about an ageing, irascible terrier, but it's also about men striving to maintain their potency as territorial aggressors. The Magnetic Fields' `Fido, Your Leash Is too Long' is a libidinous and unreliable partner, as well as a dog that likes sniffing other dogs' private parts. For the most part, animals come off better than humans on this album. In `Kings Of The Animal Kingdom', The Burning Hell dramatise our indulgent love of pets in order to expose our cruelty to other human beings. In `Bo's New Haircut', The Cords express the injustice and unfairness of an innocent animal having to submit to human demands. In `Crayon Potato' by Sassyhiya, the magnificent Crayon contemptuously rejects the gifts offered by her besotted human owners. In `Lola', the opening track, Lande Hekt tries to put this enigmatic human-animal relationship into words. And concludes that however much we love our animals, and no matter how much we manage to communicate with them, we can never really know them. A melancholy conclusion maybe, but the music - as with all the songs on this album - is expressive of the wonderment and the joy that comes from sharing your life with a member of another species. The tracks by Brian Bilston and The Catenary Wires, Jetstream Pony and Railcard are previously unreleased. These three bands are also playing a launch show at The Water Rats, London, on 9th July 2026.

Although he's released on numerous labels since debuting almost a decade ago, Eduardo Barbi aka Gledd returns to his own reliable imprint Saint Wax. On his fourth vinyl missive for the imprint, My Church Is On Fire, the Italian producer delivers a quartet of cuts that happily boast samples from vintage gospel cuts. It's a simple idea, brilliantly executed, as proved by the righteous, spiritual, organ-rich stomp of opener 'Let It Shine', featuring guest lead vocals from Steve Salmaso. Elsewhere, 'Mama Don't Preach' is a whirlwind of sampled gospel soul vocals, expansive piano solos and chunky deep house beats, 'Be Real' is a heavily electronic slab of gospel-house deepness, and 'Back on My Stay' is a locked-in, late-night delight with an effortlessly soulful finish.

Chambers' Music , subtitled A Jazz Delegation from the East , was bassist Paul Chambers ' debut album as leader. Originally released in 1956 on Jazz West , it features Chambers with two his fellow bandmates from the Miles Davis Quintet, John Coltrane and Philly Joe Jones , along with pianist Kenny Drew . Featuring a wellrounded programme that includes Charlie Parker's 'Dexterity', Benny Goson's 'Stablemates, Cole Porter's 'Easy To Love', and Chamber's own composition'Visitation', the album also has the distinction of being the first record to include a composition by John Coltrane - 'John Paul Jones'

Titled Sugar Cane, this project revives the original Spouge rhythm of Barbados — a genre born in the 1960s and largely dormant since the 1970s — and brings it into the modern day. Fusing classic Spouge with Afro influences, the result is a funky, infectious blend of pure Caribbean soul.

Given the Balearic life that Leeds ex-pat Nightmares on Wax now leads in Ibiza, we have to admit we did not see this coming: the downtempo Warp legend returning to his early 90s electronic roots. He does so with a new series of collaborations with young talents on 20/20 Vision, starting with Marlon Lopez. 'Patang' is slow, snaking dub with glitchy synth patches and melodic bass. 'Cancel Dat!' has a crunchy feel next to the bleepy synths with a leggy, loopy low end and tech house snap. Wulf's Jam 4 Jamie is a deeper, more twisted version and label head RL's Get It Together remix cuts up the groove and brings a spoken word that reframes the cut as soulful I:Cube style jam.

Sudd WAX is a vinyl only label of Sudd Records. K'Alexi Shelby, considered one of the Chicago's true heroes and known as pioneer of Chi-town's sound. Deeply connected with Frankie Knuckles, Ron Hardy, Robert Owens, Larry Heard, Derrick May, Paul Johnson, names that prove his respect into the House Music Scene. Shelby's K.A.S. Sounds shows all those influences. Turn up the volume, and let the release gets into your mind.

When Hot Mulligan took to social media to declare themselves #1 Hot New Band, it would have been easy to write off the terminally online emo quartet’s proclamation as yet another irreverent entry into their bag of tricks.

But it turns out Hot Mulligan have a way of manifesting things into existence, whether it’s name-dropping Michelle Branch and Mark Hoppus in song titles and netting responses from both (only one got the joke) or, true to their word, becoming synonymous with the newest waves of pop-punk and emo – err, post-emo, the genre Hot Mully have claimed responsibility for inventing. (Go ahead and fact-check it; they’ll wait.)
