Rising from the fiercely DIY Philadelphia underground, CARLY COSGROVE graft achingly vulnerable lyrics atop a bed of mathy rhythms, intricate guitar work and a penchant for indie-rock cool meets emo authenticity. Those Days Are Gone is Nashville’s emo-punk band Free Throw’s debut, most popular, and fan-beloved album. Free Throw have been making music together for 10 years, and on Oct 13th, 2023, are releasing their fifth studio album to much fan and critical excitement. Those Days Are Gone was the last record that singer Cory Castro and drummer Zach Hall played on together before reuniting for the 2023 record. This 2023 release will surely drive fan excitement for Free Throw’s entire discography, particularly favorite Those Days Are Gone. Free Throw is embarking on a full 30-date US tour in fall 2023, co-headline with Prince Daddy & The Hyena. They are also supporting Hot Mulligan on a 6-date Australia tour in early 2024.

The Junkyard 2 came into fruition when it was released in May of last year, as an intimate collection of what she considered her best material. Scott has been taking piano lessons since she was eight years old growing up in California, and that instrumental talent is one of the most striking elements on the record. The songs reckoned with touchy subjects -- emotional labor, insecurity, healthcare -- with razor-sharp wit and care. Even if it was recorded poorly, the brilliance of the writing and performance still resonated. After that, she realized she had to do better, and so she unveiled Public Void in September. She ditched the piano, played with software, and gave her music a texture that was bolder, weirder, and catchier. Together, the two projects and Scott’s other singles have combined to amass 150 million on-demand U.S. streams, according to MRC data. The landscape of TikTok is cluttered, and hits are ephemeral, but Scott’s strike a unique chord and her image is constantly growing. When asked if she considers that music will be her full time job, she pauses, reluctant to think too far ahead. “I think, for the near future, yes,” she ultimately answers. “I’m definitely not leaving college for it. But the next couple of years are locked in.”

Whether she’s channeling emo, pop or techno, Scott really just makes music the way she wants to hear it—whether that’s making percussion sound bolder, speeding up the tempo or maximizing the best part of the song. Physically tethered to this reality, yet creatively unmoored from any earthly restraints, Holy rawn freely slip in and out of metal, shoegaze, electronic, alternative, and rock as if inhabiting multiple states of sonic existence al at once. Blazing new trails both seen and unseen as well as heard and unheard (but always felt), the Arizona quartet continue to cover uncharted territory on their second full-length offering, Dimensional Bleed.

"Nobody wants to live a life that is disposable," says Taylor. "Everybody wants their life and their time to mean something, and I think in our daily lives, there's a choice that can be made to do small things every day so that you really do feel like, 'hey, my life has value." The title and the record's lyrics are partly a reframing of the average human experience. Modern culture has convinced us that a 'normal' life is unremarkable, but this paves over the beauty inherent in routine relations. "Everyone looks at their experience as like, 'I want something more," explains Taylor. "But any conversation that you have with anybody, there are things that you can pull out, or walking somewhere and just looking around and being alive- There's a lot of meaning to me in that, even if you go for a two block walk." The songs on Disposable Life came from ideas Taylor workshopped with lead guitarist Kevin Maida.

When the band gathered again post-pandemic restrictions, the goal was simple: write songs and hinish them without any external end goal. Between December 2020 and February 2021, the band wrote and demoed four songs before recording in Crown Point,

Indiana at longtime collaborator and producer Seth Henderson's Always Be Genius Recording Studio. Vince Ratti (Circa Survive, The Wonder Years) mixed the EP and Kris Crummett (Dance Gavin Dance, Mayday Parade) mastered.

This release takes a look back at Knuckle Puck's early years -- Retrospective is a vinyl combo that collects several releases, all originally pressed on vinyl by Bad Timing Records between 2014 and 2015.
