Georg Friedrich Händels Suiten für Tasteninstrument sind den meisten Konzertpianisten fremd. SeongJin Cho möchte mit seinem Album neues Licht auf diese gefühlvollen Werke der Barockmusik werfen.
Aufgenommen für Deutsche Grammophon hat er seine drei Favoriten von Händels Suiten, HWV 427, 430
und 433. Nachdem sich der Pianist jahrelang mit Musik aus späteren Epochen beschäftigt hatte, gelangten
Händels Tastenwerke in seinen Fokus, nicht zuletzt durch ihren Reichtum an musikalischen Einfällen und
melodischer Erfindung. „Für mich kommt Händels Musik von Herzen, die Menschen können ihr leicht
folgen“, sagt Cho. Er verzichtet möglichst auf das rechte Pedal in seiner Interpretation, modifiziert jedoch
einige der dynamischen Markierungen, um das Potenzial des modernen Flügels auszuschöpfen. Aber auch
der Einfluss Händels auf spätere Komponisten interessierte Cho, somit entschied er sich, auch Brahms’
schöpferische Antwort auf Händels Musik einzuspielen: Brahms hat seine virtuosen Händel-Variationen
innerhalb weniger Wochen zu Papier gebracht. Für Cho sind diese „die besten Variationen, die je geschrieben
wurden“. Das Album schließt mit zwei einzelnen Sätzen von Händel: Die Sarabande in B-Dur und das
Menuett in g-Moll – das Letztere in einer magischen Bearbeitung von Wilhelm Kempff. Cho wird mit dem
Repertoire seines Albums auf Tournee gehen - sie beginnt am 5. Februar 2023 in Hannover und führt weiter
nach Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Dortmund, London, Mailand, Berlin und Wien.

Noah Kahan ist ein 26-jähriger Singer-Songwriter aus Vermont und schreibt Songs, die direkt aus dem Herzen kommen. Protomartyr, bestehend aus dem Sänger Joe Casey, dem Gitarristen Greg Ahee, dem Schlagzeuger Alex Leonard und dem Bassisten Scott Davidson, sind zu einem Synonym für bissige, impressionistische Assemblagen aus Politik und Poesie, Wahrem und Schrägem geworden. Returning after three years, the husband and wife duo of Alexi Erenkov and Alison Alderdiceaka. The Saxophones have announced the arrival of their third album, To Be A Cloud, for 2nd June 2023. "Alison wants me to try therapy, "says Alexi. “She’s a therapist herself, but I’ve never been to one. The idea of going makes me very uncomfortable. I don’t like being vulnerable in front of strangers. So, instead of confronting my discomfort, I look for an easier path. It’s never easier and it’s always unsatisfying or destructive. “Desert Flower” is about avoidance and fear impeding personal growth and the deepening of relationships. The album itself was recorded at Phil Elverum’s (The Microphones, Mount Eerie) Unknown Studio in Anacortes, WA last autumn. A former Catholic church where the pair lived during 24/7 recording sessions, time was no object as they experimented and developed the sound of the record. Its magical setting and ample space provided natural acoustics for Alexi’s arresting vocals which were recorded live to 24-track tape, suspending them in an ambiguous historical and chronological context between analogue and digital. Enhanced by Alison’s percussion alongside the bass and keys of Richard Laws, together they made the most of the studio’s many instruments which fill out and bookend their exploration of the billions of years of evolution that have led to this moment in time.

He was also a civil rights activist of implied yet huge proportions, having once accused the establishment of creating a "plantation of the mind". This also reflected in his music. Vocally critical of genre boundaries, 'Kwanza' exemplifies his stance, with the music contained on the record an upbeat and joyous yet foray through a kind of party jazz that, though it is fun, doesn't simply encourage you not to think about your predicament. Released five years after its original recording sessions, this is an important slice of history, well deserving of its reissue.

Durch die letztjährige Grammy-Nominierung der Jazzharfenistin Brandee Younger sind in jüngster Zeit viele Jazzfans wieder auf das schmale, dafür aber umso erstaulichere Œuvre ihres großen Vorbilds Dorothy Ashby aufmerksam geworden. Ihr wohl exzentristischstes, zugleich aber unglaublich zugängliches Album nahm sie 1970 für Cadet Records auf: “The Rubáiyát Of Dorothy Ashby”. Auf ihm vertonte sie Vierzeiler des persischen Dichters Omar Chayyām (1048-1131), wobei sie auf reizvolle Weise Spiritual Jazz, Funk und Blues mit Elementen asiatischer und afrikanischer Musik verschmolz. Neben ihrer Harfe spielt Ashby hier auch die japanische Koto und sang.

Directed by Hugo Keijzer, the film ‘Post’ starts at the low point with the mother having decided to admit her daughter to a hospital for professional help. The mother changes her mind at the hospital’s doorstep, remembering how she had dealt with emotions when she was younger, and how important nature has always been for her.
