In total, this first entry in the Djax-Up-Beats 1990-2005 series comprises 20 tracks, presented as a main triple-vinyl album plus two additional 12" EPs. This second additional EP brings two fourteen (!) minutes long journies by Acid Junkies feat. The Doctor and by Purple Plejade, an early outing by Thomas P. Heckmann and Holger Wick. Crucially, every track featured on the series has been carefully mastered by Johanz Westerman, bringing the best out of tracks that often had very little post-production treatment before they were originally pressed to wax. With five more, equally extensive, volumes to come in this series, Djax-Up-Beats 1990-2005 is a thorough exploration of a true totem of techno culture - a renegade label that operated on its own terms and carried surprises and slammers in equal measure.

Chicago funk/soul band South Side Movement, who began their career as the backing band for the renowned pair Shintek & Wiley known for “Bootleggin,”
released their debut album The South Side Movement (Wand, 1973). From this album comes the enduring classic “I’m Been Watching You”, a track that remains
highly popular among hip-hop listeners—sampled by artists such as Erykah Badu (“Woo”), Ghostface Killah (“Camay”), and Jadakiss featuring Nas (“Show Discipline”).

Skymark is back with a new album recorded in 2025 with his electric pianos and analog synthetisers. The vibes is very similar to his previous albums, a fusion of Spiritual Jazz, Soul, Brazilian music and Disco. As always influenced by his 70´s and 80´s favorite musicians but with a touch of contemporary soulful music. We can't resist the carefully fused and treated sounds of The Reflex who shows his class again here with more multitrack remixes that bring vintage grooves bang up top dates without stripping them of their seasoned charms. 'Cherry Dub' is packed with big riffs and well known vocal-hooks but is dubbed out top perfection with screeching guitar solos destined to send dancers wild. The flip side is a more warm and breezy roller for sunny days and cocktail sessions, again with an iconic vocal and top line adding that familiarity that always unites dancers.

The Reflex has been back remixing on his multitracks again and if you have been out anywhere decent in recent times you might already have heard this one as it has been a favourite of those DJs in his inner circle. Finally, the unrelated rework of a legendary disco diva arrives on wax and dazzles from front to back. 'Lolita' has it all - the deft hi hats sliding above funky bass, a rhythm driven by busy piano chords and lung-busting vocal full of burning soul. 'Camels' rides funky, chunky drums and has more expressive tones this time in unison with an off-balance chord sequence and fluttering sax. Lovely stuff.

Jim Sharp channels his Latino alter ego Jaime Filoso on a pair of spicy tracks by musical neighbours. The A side uses a Salsa break used by a naughty rabbit but keeps the original vocals intact. The flip is a chilled out Samba number with a famous D&B guitar lick.
