Black Duck captures a band already deeply in tune with one another. Rumback burst onto the fertile Chicago improvised music scene in the early 2000"s. His fluid technique and expressive playing garnered him much attention. In addition to his solo releases, Rumback has recorded with Ryley Walker, jazz greats such as Jim Baker, James Singleton, and Greg Ward. Black Duck"s debut is a testament to that fluency, an expedition led by three veterans into alluring worlds bathed in myriad splendors. Black Duck is a gallery of sonic tapestries, unbound by any genre constraints. Black Duck redefines what two guitarists and a drummer can do, pieces move from breezy shuffles to stormy blues rumbles to gorgeous textural drones. Playing entirely improvised live sets for years helped develop the trio"s acute senses for one another, knowing precisely how to listen to the others and bolster whatever direction they move in. In the short time the trio have played together, they have performed at Big Ears Festival and alongside acts like Yo La Tengo.

Apparently Unaffected is the third album by the Norwegian singer-songwriter Maria Mena. It was especially popular in the Netherlands where three of the album's singles made it in Dutch chart listings, including "Miss You Love", "Just Hold Me" and "Our Battles". The album was produced by Arvid Solvang, who also worked on previous albums by Maria Mena.

Jason Mraz is living full spiral. Ihre musikalische Ausrichtung wird meistens als Hard Rock mit mittelalterlichen Anklängen beschrieben. Als wichtige Einflüsse werden häufig Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash und Jethro Tull genannt. Die drei Vorgänger-Alben erreichten auch bei deutschen Musikkritikern aus der Hardrock- und Metal-Szene gute bis sehr gute Bewertungen, u.a. war das 2020er Album 'III: Pentecost' im renommierten Deaf Forever-Magazin 'Album des Monats'. Im Moment muss es sich mit 9,5 Punkten zufrieden geben. Klar gab es dieses Jahr noch keine stärkere Veröffentlichung, aber zur Perfektion fehlt halt das letzte kleine bisschen (noch). Nachdem er zunächst als Frontmann von Lloyd Cole & The Commotions und später solo insgesamt sechzehn Alben veröffentlicht hat, erforscht Lloyd Cole nun, was es bedeutet, ein Singer-Songwriter im 21. Jahrhundert zu sein. Mit einer unersättlichen Neugier zeigt Cole auf "On Pain" eine ausgefeilte Sparsamkeit und verstärkt diese durch suggestiven Einsatz analoger Synthesizer-Sounds. Diese Songs
blinken und flackern wie Neonlichter im Halbdunkel: stimmungsvoll, melodisch, nachdenklich, offenherzig – das ist Lloyd Cole in seiner besten Form.

OUTLANDERS ist ein Projekt der finnischen Sopranlegende Tarja Turunen und dem EDM Pionier Torsten Stenzel. Über 10 Jahre haben die beiden an dem Album gearbeitet und hatten dabei Unterstützung von einigen der einflussreichsten Gitarristen unserer Zeit. Eine Ikone ist viel zu früh von uns gegangen, aber sie wird aufgrund ihres Vermächtnisses nie vergessen werden. Der Name "Jordan Mooney" war der Stoff, aus dem Legenden gemacht sind! Sie ist "dabei gewesen, hatte es gesehen, hatte es getan", in einer ganzen Reihe von unterschiedlichen Bereichen, vom Balletttanz bis zum Live-Auftritt von Ziggy und dem Treffen mit dem großen Mann; vom Punk sein und aussehen, bevor es Punk überhaupt gab; vom Miterleben der Gründung der Sex Pistols direkt vor ihren Augen zusammen mit Malcolm und Vivienne; von der Schauspielerei in zukunftsweisenden Filmen; vom Scherzen mit Andy Warhol; vom Management von Adam & The Ants und der kurzen Heirat mit einem von ihnen; und von der späteren Karriere als Tierkrankenschwester. Jordan hat in ihren knappen 66 Jahren viel erreicht, aber was auch immer sie anpackte, sie tat es mit vollem Einsatz. Jordan war sich selbst und anderen treu und genoss das Vertrauen all derer, die das Vergnügen hatten, sie zu kennen und zu treffen. Am Sonntag, dem 29. Mai 2022, versammelten sich Hunderte von Menschen in Brighton zum "Official Jordan Mooney Charity Memorial Concert", um das Leben dieser wirklich bemerkenswerten Frau zu feiern. Einige waren aus Japan, Deutschland und anderen Ländern angereist, nur um an diesem besonderen Tag teilzunehmen. An diesem Tag waren alte und neue Freunde unter einem Dach versammelt, um den perfekten Abschied zu feiern. Jordan kannte Captain "Cheers me dears!" Sensible seit etwa fünf Jahrzehnten, und während der letzten heiligen Monate ihres Lebens hatte sie einen Johnny-Moped-Song als Ohrwurm im Kopf, den sie und ich uns gegenseitig freudig vorsangen: "Darling, let's have another baby; Let's make one soon on our second honeymoon...". Es war nur logisch, dass Captain Sensible in Erinnerung an Jordan noch einmal mit seinen alten Kumpels, Johnny Moped, aufsatteln würde. A native of Los Angeles, Henry Franklin came of age while the city was producing a crop of exciting jazz talent. Frankin’s lasting impact on jazz can be evidenced by the long list of legends who sought him out for tours and recording sessions, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Humphrey, Freddy Hubbard, & Pharaoh Sanders to name a few. Franklin’s solo output is best remembered for his two solo outings with the Black Jazz label- “The Skipper” & “The Skipper At Home”. Together, they form one of the most compelling diptychs in the entire post-bop canon. Recognised by his peers and contemporaries, Franklin’s entry for Jazz Is Dead gives the living legend his flowers and recognises the contributions The Skipper has made as one of jazz’s most influential heartbeats.

Raveena Aurora’s debut album was released on EMPIRE in 2019. As she wrote on social media the evening of its release, “What a dream to be able to give u this piece of my soul.”

The album features 12 songs exploring themes of sexuality, womanhood, and her Indian heritage. Raveena cites Sade, Corinne Bailey Rae, Minnie Riperton, and Indian singer, Asha Puthli, as inspirations.

‘Turn Away’ is a song in two parts” explains Skinshape aka Will Dorey. “The front section is intended to be classic songwriter style, with a focus on the chord progression and lyrics. The second half perhaps represents a curious epiphany, a realisation of something profound”. As the plot develops, Dorey’s clandestine charisma creates an alchemic, and most gentlemanly, cleansing of the soul. From his director’s chair, Dorey expands that “following the theme of film music, ‘Dreams of Panama’ could be an exotic scene in the movie, featuring a slight Latin twist and an epic introduction with full choir”. The track also makes the most of an opportunity to use a solo female vocal as the main melody.

Two of the most prominent activists on the current European reggae scene join forces on this brand new song. ‘END OF THE DAY’ is a combination between Bristol singer JOE YORKE and Swiss reggae band THE 18TH PARALLEL.

Wieder einmal hat Cale die Art und Weise, wie seine Musik gemacht wird, klingt und sogar funktioniert, neu definiert. Little Roy’s WOKE UP is a four song Zion I Kings showcase style ep with dub mixes by JAH David Goldfine.Few singer songwriters of his generation have maintained a recording career as consistently masterful as Little Roy.

His timeless classics “Prophecy” and “Tribal War” are among the most versioned songs in the reggae songbook. With a career now spanning six decades, every new Little Roy release raises the Rastafari musical banner another notch higher with no end in sight.

On WOKE UP, the Zion I Kings are complemented in fine style by musicians and vocalists who rank among the finest in reggae. These include, on drums, Roberto Sanchez and Aston Barrett Jr. who is joined by lead guitarist Lamont “Monty” Savory on the title track. Horns are by Okiel Mcintyre and Zoe Brown is featured on flute. Barbara Naps and Madeline Singer join JAH David on the background vocals.In 2023, Zion High Productions is celebrating twenty years of “crucial Rastafari music for these crucial times”.

Remotely Together introduces new works by claire rousay & Morita Vargas, Maria Chavez & Valentina Magaletti, and KMRU, all commissioned through remote residencies for Rewire’s 2021 - online edition. In the midst of COVID-19 lockdowns, Rewire initiated these collaborations between disparate artists from all over the world, connecting them remotely to explore new creative practices both online and in isolation. The audiovisual results of these residencies were presented during the online edition of the 2021 festival. Newly edited versions of a selection of these performances have now been compiled for this release.

Featuring an enthralling mix of ambient, noise, field recording, and experimental sound art, the scene of Remotely Together is set by the crunching sounds of footsteps over a grassy environment on atmospheric opener Humo De Margatina Dulce, a collaborative song between North American percussionist and improviser claire rousay and Argentinian vocalist Morita Vargas. rousay’s textural mix of field recordings, everyday sounds, and deep electronics coalesce with Vargas’s ethereal vocals, paving the way for compelling music that gradually draws its listeners deeper into its mysterious soundworld.

Meanwhile, New York–based turntablist Maria Chavez and celebrated Italian percussionist Valentina Magaletti collaborate on Particle, featuring hypnotic textures and dreamlike percussion that seems to sonically propel itself forward, slowly expanding into a rich and layered work of stretched-out free jazz.

During his online residency, Kenyan sound artist KMRU teamed up with Dutch filmmaker Donna Verheijden. MicroVerse showcases his evocative mixing of field recordings, entrancing noise, and improvisation, resulting in a piece where the seemingly gentle sounds of the natural world begin to blend in with the artificial muck of droning noise.

Peruvian-born and Amsterdam-based graphic designer Jonathan Castro Alejos has designed the artwork of Remotely Together. It was thought of as a sculptural documentation of the unnoticed urban gestures between Amsterdam and Lima during the pandemic – further reinforcing the relationship between isolation and interconnectivity explored during the remote residencies of Rewire.

Leeds soul and funk label ATA Records are proud to announce the new single from The Sorcerers. Available on 7" vinyl and Digital Download from Friday 30th March, this single is a driving Ethiojazz track aimed squarely at the dancefloor, backed by the Yorkshire Film & Television's original recording of "The Anderson Spectrum" (Later re-recorded and re-named by The Sorcerers as "The Viking Of 5th Avenue")

Taking influences from Ethiopiques Ethiojazz as well as the soundtracks to the European horror films of the 60s and 70s, The Sorcerers seamlessly blend these disparate elements into one cohesive package. Based in ATA Records' home of Leeds, The Sorcerers are made up of the cream of the city's jazz and world scene. Forming the backbone of the ATA Records house band they incorporate bass clarinets, flutes, and vibraphone alongside bass, guitar organ and drums, providing Ellingtonian textures on top of a solid rhythmic foundation.

Initially inspired by the work of Ethiopian composer Mulatu Astatke, The Sorcerers have developed their sound from the foundations laid out on their debut LP "The Sorcerers"."In pursuit of Shai Hulud" eschews the atmospheric textures of their previous material, replacing them with driving percussion and propulsive bass. Organ and flute tear into the melody as temple blocks beat out an insistent rhythm throughout.

The B-Side ("The Anderson Spectrum") is the original track from The Yorkshire Film & Television Orchestra that The Sorcerers re-recorded and re-named "The Viking Of 5th Avenue" when they recorded it for their debut. Tremolo-fuzz guitar and heavy brass place the track firmly in the sonic realm of 1960s British Library Music, bringing to mind the work of John Barry and Portishead rather than Mulatu Astatke.

São Vicente Di Longe is Cesaria Evora's eighth album and features multiple guest appearances, including Pedro Guerra, Caetano Veloso, Chucho Valdés, and North American blues superstar Bonnie Raitt.

The album includes more Latin-tinged songs, including "Tiempo Y Silencio" where Cesaria sings in Spanish, and nostalgic torch songs, such as "Linda Mimosa" and "Negue," which finds Cesaria accompanied by the piano. The tracks are recorded with a wide range of instruments like strings, horns, guitars, percussion and even a gospel choir (on "Bondade e Maldade").

São Vicente Di Longe is available on vinyl for the first time as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on orange and black marbled vinyl and includes a 4-page booklet with photos and lyrics.

In Stereo is the debut studio album by hip hop group Bomfunk MC's, released in 1999. The album reached No. 1 on that year's Finnish albums chart and remained in that chart for 69 consecutive weeks.

In the group's home country, Finland, the album received an Emma Award for Best New Band, Best Debut Album, Best Song ("Freestyler"), and Best Producer (JS16). In Stereo was certified double Platinum in 1999, with over 130 thousand copies sold; it is currently the 25th best-selling album of all time in Finland.

D.T.D. is the debut release of Naples’ Giuseppe Augello. The project embodies both sonic experiments with DIY noise boxes, field recordings and sample manipulations and is showcasing Giuseppe’s industrial and post-punk influences with formidable musical variety: Sharp, earthshaking drums or sinister, trance-inducing rituals – D.T.D. offers it all.

We are happy to announce that Ruf Dug, the Mancunian record producer, radio host, and self-professed video game freak is the latest artist to climb aboard the Pinchy train.

Well known for his kaleidoscopic approach both in the DJ booth and in the studio, Ruf Dug has touched on genres as diverse as street soul, vaporwave, and acid house over the years. He has released material on labels such as Rhythm Section, Klasse Wrecks, and his own Moodymann approved Ruf Kutz.

For his Pinchy & friends’ debut (there's a 6-song EP in the works as well) the NTS radio host distils some of these aforementioned influences and presents a two-track 12" that explores dub techno, Chicago acid, and atmospheric balearica.

Built around a solid, techy thud, "Thru The Night!" rides seismic bass waves and reverb-laden stabs to more tropical climes, thanks to gusts of echoed flutes and a catchy, 8-bit vocal hook.

On the flip, "I Love You" takes a minor-key synth riff and sends it off to music school for some late-night nasty dance floor bliss.

In collaboration with Croatian label Sareni Ducan, Discom proudly presents an official reissue of a very rare self-titled album of Yugoslavian 80’s funk band Boom Selekcija.

Boom Selekcija was a short-living group of musicians from Belgrade, active from 1979 to 1983. They recorded their debut and only album for the label Diskos in 1983 and after that disbanded. The line-up included musicians from Boban Petrovic’s backing band and Silva Delovska from Kim Band on vocals. The quality of recorded material and the complete lack of information about the band set them as a cult act among DJs and crate diggers. This is one of the albums which makes you ask ”What is this?” when you hear it, but nobody around could tell you an honest answer.

A side of the record begins with a track called Moje Cake (eng. My Tricks). It is a groovy theme with mellow vocals-a story of the poser who thinks he is very interesting. The same groove continues in the song Rokenrol Štipaljke (Rock And Roll Easy Girls) where friends are preparing for a crazy go out in a discotheque. It ends in a Balearic atmosphere in the songs Studentski San ( eng. A Student’s Dream)- a song about dreaming luxurious life on the Adriatic coastline) and Vladina Gitara (eng. Vlad’s guitar)-a nice dreamy guitar instrumental in the 70’s Yugoslavian style.

Equally groovy and interesting B side portrays naive and charming 80’s Belgrade: discotheques, parties, girls, tough guys, urban stories about real-common people and their destinies … all packed with such style and grace like you are in New York City suburbs in the late ’70s and enjoy perfect funk/soul musicianship. In this sense, you can hear: amazing slap bass by Vladan Mracic in the song Zuljas Me ( eng. You Are Going To My Nerves); cool funky guitar licks by Aleksandar Stefanovic in the song Bora Klej; authentic soul singing style of Mile Perisic and beautiful electric piano solo of Oliver Polak in song Frizerka Nada (eng. Nada, The Hairdresser) and convincing funk rhythm drumming by Zoran SImovski all way through.

This record will remain a significant point for investigating Yugoslavian funk history and it will be welcomed on every dance floor in the world that favors lesser-known grooves. We hope that we will manage to bring it closer to the younger audience and show how people used to live and have a good time in Belgrade and Yugoslavia.
