Pelican has always been a band that's not just from Chicago, but distinctly of Chicago. Formed in 2000 by guitarists Trevor Shelley de Brauw and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec alongside brothers Bryan and Larry Herweg on bass and drums respectively, Pelican's foundation was built upon the rule-free, genre-agnostic scene synonymous with the Fireside Bowl. "The `90s in Chicago was a free-for-all. Everyone was just coming from a place of pure creativity," says Shelley de Brauw. With Schroeder-Lebec returning to the band following Dallas Thomas' departure in 2022, this reunified version of Pelican allowed the band to tap back into the spirit of their formative era and build something distinctly new with Flickering Resonance. While longtime Pelican fans will recognize the album as an update to the band's ethos_one that's been constantly evolving since their very first EP_their new partnership with Run For Cover Records emphasizes something that's always been implicit to the Pelican formula. These songs take as much inspiration from titanic `90s post-hardcore, space-rock, and emo as they do traditional metal, showing that though Godflesh and Goatsnake records occupied the shelves of Pelican's songwriters, so too did Quicksand, Christie Front Drive, and Hum. "A lot of people didn't hear it at first," says Schroeder-Lebec. "I was like, well, I guess the metal world is where we fit. But now, we're more willing to acknowledge all the suits we're wearing."On Flickering Resonance, Pelican doesn't attempt to reinvent itself as much as emphasize the elements that were so often overlooked. Though Pelican's thick sonic backbone remains intact, the songs on Flickering Resonance show a more humanistic side of the band. Tracks like "Evergreen" and "Indelible" tease Pelican's doom-metal roots, but these songs feel equally, ebullient and truthful, playing like Texas Is The Reason songs transmuted into a post-rock landscape. Recorded with longtime musical compatriot Sanford Parker, who recorded their first EP, Pelican begins this new chapter of their career with an album that's neither full reinvention nor back-to-roots revivalism. After so much time apart, and with so much life having been lived between the original Pelican lineup's last recording sessions together, the band approached it with renewed vigor and a more communal spirit."There was more room for openness and critique with the understanding that we're all trying to craft the best song possible and that every suggestion is valid until it's proven invalid," says Shelley de Brauw. That process allowed everyone to embrace the material with a shared vision. "We didn't move forward unless we all wanted to move forward, and that felt like real community building," says Schroeder-Lebec of this unified approach. "I went from seeing it as my art and my craft to our craft that we were shaping together."In doing so, Pelican allowed themselves to look at their music less as a means of hard-earned catharsis and more as an appreciation for the glimmers of joy that occur even in the bleakest landscapes. Songs like "Cascading Crescent" and "Indelible" don't languish in what's been lost, these tracks see the band embracing what remains in their hands instead of lamenting what's slipped through their fingers. It's a concept that's mirrored in the artwork of Christian Degn that graces the cover of Flickering Resonance. It's a piece built off the concept of flame meditation, and how the smallest flames can often bring about the biggest transformations. A song like "Flickering Stillness" exemplifies this feeling through its sonic expanse, putting the band's sonic density and hyper-focused clarity on display, but with an emphasis on the profound human connections that have kept Pelican going all these years. "When Laurent left and we were able to carry it through, there became a real sense of gratitude for the fact we still have this artistic outlet and a community of people who want to be a part of it" That feeling of deep, grounded appreciation isn't just one that's within the band members, it's expressed in every track on Flickering Resonance. Because at the very core of Pelican, are four individuals who have grown both separately and together, and always will.Like a distant light faintly glowing in the darkest night, Flickering Resonance is a reminder of all that has passed us by, but also all that is still to come.

Legendary indie travellers Half Japanese return with their new album Adventure. The prolific outsider combo, helmed by the ever-optimistic Jad Fair, delivers a heartwarming set of upbeat sonnets celebrating the power of love, affection, and maturity. More than 50 years since Jad and his brother David emerged from their lo-fi bedroom in Uniontown, Maryland, USA, Adventure takes the latest incarnation of the band down new and more refined avenues. Recorded in London at Vacant TV and produced by Jason Willett and Jad, Adventure presents a more pristine and polished canvas for Jad to expand upon. The addition of Euan Hinshelwood to the sonic palette, with saxophone, harmonica, and piano, creates a smoother backdrop for the band's less lubricated sound. Lemonade Sunset is an ode to the world of wonder, a spacious overture built with melancholy in mind but relishing the positivity of life. By contrast, Step On Up revolves around a glorious rising piano motif that hints at Steely Dan if they were high on energy drinks and spinach rather than their usual tipple. It's a light-hearted evocation of the good times. Magnificent is a homage to living in the present tense, powered by the bittersweet saxophone, with a glorious piano-led sub-melody offsetting Jad's positivity: "magnificently magnificent," no less. Elsewhere, ringing percussion and sharp arrangements provide Jad with a sturdy and far reaching soundtrack to lament over. Adventure sees Half Japanese covering new ground, with Jad's considered soliloquies set in a sumptuous setting. The lineup for Half Japanese on Adventure includes Jason Willett (bass, keyboards), Gilles-Vincent Rieder (drums, percussion), John Sluggett (guitar, piano, bass), Mick Hobbs (guitar), Euan Hinshelwood (guitar, saxophone, piano, harmonica), and Jad Fair (vocals, percussion). Sadly, longstanding member Mick Hobbs passed away last year. Thanks to acclaimed live shows and radio appearances in both Norway and Germany, Heigh Chief has been steadily winning over a growing fan base with their high energy performances of songs from their first two albums. One Night Live solidifies their reputation as a formidable live band with incredible chops and songwriting skills. Their talent has earned them notable achievements, including winning the Notodden Blues Cup in 2013 and placing second in the Norwegian finals of the "Battle of the Bands." When Elvis joined the Army in 1958, Ricky Nelson was the young man who, it was predicted, would fill the King’s blue suede shoes. He went on to become a country-rock pioneer, but everybody still remembered his pop hits. Ricky Nelson's teenage celebrity typecast him for life, but these recordings from his heyday reveal a solid musician who matured and grew over time. It’s also fair to say that his later music opened the door for the Eagles, featuring ex-Stone Canyon Band bass player Randy Meisner, to pass through. It was more than a sympathy vote that saw Nelson posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Girl groups have come and gone over the years, but the Crystals’ name, along with the Ronettes, has become synonymous with the groundbreaking early-Sixties wave promoted by producer Phil Spector. ETNOBOTANIKA - remember them? Well, now it's KOSMOBOTANIKA!

But rest assured - it's still the same excellent band from Ruda ?l?ska, only this time instead of a forest full of ghosts or a land of fairy tale creatures like a Fruwajacy Przestepca the duo of producers takes us on an interstellar journey!

The artists' third album, just titled KOSMOBOTANIKA, is an over forty-minute work skillfully composed from a multitude of various samples, and genre-wise presenting the sounds of deep house, trip-hop, breakbeat, ambient and even jazz. This is electronic music with a very cinematic, visual and imaginative character, something at which ETNOBOTANIKA has undoubtedly achieved mastery confirmed by their first two very well-received albums. This cinematic style (electronic concept album?) is reminiscent of the classic albums of the genre's progenitors from the UK like The Orb (first releases) or The KLF (the iconic "Chillout" album), but also the French Motorbass.

The Silesian duo does it their own way, of course, with a local twist. Thus, in the cosmic journey our guides will be in-sampled familiar voices from Polish television, cinema, radio and dusty vinyls (yes - samples from Mr. Kleks in Space had to be on the album, of course :) ).
There is no shortage of atmosphere-building instrumental fragments here, but also quite song-like tracks with catchy melodies and vocals. Fans of the band will certainly be satisfied.

What is there to say - ETNOBOTANIKA has created another classic, which simply must be on the shelf :) Trust them and let yourself be taken on a cosmic journey - satisfaction guaranteed!

Over sixty years into a life in music, Amina Claudine Myers revisits old compositions with a quiet force on Solace Of The Mind, her first solo record since receiving an NEA Jazz Master honours. Recorded for Red Hook Records and produced by Sun Chung, it hears Myers at the piano, Hammond B3 organ and mic, reinterpreting personal standards such as 'African Blues', 'Song For Mother E', 'Cairo' and 'Steal Away' with patient, spacious phrasing and the tonal sensitivity she's honed since her days with the AACM. Chung's production renders every harmonic shimmer and pause with startling clarity; a glistening move compared to last year's duo release with Wadada Leo Smith, adding a returnal layer to an otherwise eclectic discography, spanning free jazz and blues-rooted experimentalism. In her words, "I wanted to play (the originals) differently this time."

State Change is the riveting new album from composer and performer Molly Joyce, out July 11, 2025 via FatCat Records’ 130701 imprint. Blending influences ranging from the 20th century modernist lineage to the spectral drones of Andy Stott, Missy Mazzoli, and Nico Muhly, State Change draws unflinchingly from the medical record of a childhood trauma for seven electro-acoustic tone poems — stark and oppressive in its medical aesthetic, yet ultimately cathartic and healing. Joyce crafted the album with Grammy-winning producer William Brittelle largely at Figure 8 Studios with engineer Michael Hammond.

When Joyce was seven years old, she was involved in a car accident that nearly amputated her left hand and required many intensive surgeries; to this day, her hand is still impaired. Joyce pushed through this life change, and over the past eight years, her reputation has swelled as one of her generation’s most daring, conceptually driven composers.

Joyce’s 2020 debut for New Amsterdam Records, Breaking and Entering, ruminated on this seismic shift in pieces for toy organ, voice, and electronic sampling of both sources. The New York Times noted her music’s “serene power”; The Washington Post described her as “one of the most versatile, prolific and intriguing composers working under the vast new-music dome.” Pitchfork lauded her 2022 album Perspective — a sonic portrait of disability built from interview recordings, also released on New Amsterdam — as “a powerful work of love and empathy that underscores the poison of ableism in American culture.”

Full of Hell Coagulated Bliss bio Full of Hell burst forth with incredible force from the small, dagger-shaped city of Ocean City, Maryland, 15 years ago. Over five full-lengths, five collaborative full-lengths, and countless splits, EPs, singles, and noise compilations, they’ve evolved at extraordinary speed, their music becoming more complicated and technical without ever slowing down or losing its soul. Everything on a Full of Hell album feels like a blur: smears of guitar, harsh noise shaken like gravel in a bag, singer Dylan Walker’s snarl and bite carrying him into outer space or into the core of the earth. They’re coiled, interlocking, impossible to penetrate, and they move with alarming speed. They have now reached terminal velocity. Having created their own context, they’re now able to walk around within it, to survey its terrain, to visit far corners and see who’s nearby. Coagulated Bliss sounds like Full of Hell, but it’s nothing like any Full of Hell record that’s come before it.

Released for the first time on vinyl - 2002's Can You Do Me Good? saw Del Amitri return after a 48 month hiatus with a new sound and a remarkable, yet almost entirely overlooked album - For the album's debut on LP it has been pressed on high quality 180g vinyl and includes a full-colour 16 page lyric booklet. By 2002, the pop world had turned; four years earlier, Del Amitri had released Hatful Of Rain, their greatest hits collection marking more-or-less a decade of success. Can You Do Me Good? relied on keyboards, samples and drum machines as much as previous albums centered on electric and acoustic guitars. Featuring its soulful lead single Just Before You Leave, Can You Do Me Good? is truly fascinating, and could well have been the groups biggest album ever had it come five years earlier. Ive got cash and prizes, but I don’t know who I am, Currie sings on Cash & Prizes; and the song seems to encapsulate the album.

Some Other Suckers Parade is a fascinating addition to Del Amitri’s catalogue - Originally released on A&M Records in June 1997, the album captures a group secure of their success and gently kicking back against formula. This re-issue faithfully replicates the original 1997 A&M UK release and is pressed onto high quality 180g vinyl. The group, led by bassist-vocalist-writer Justin Currie and writer-guitarist Iain Harvie, had become equally known for their gentle pop and acoustic ballads as their jangling melodic rock. Overseen by Breeders producer Mark Freegard, the album was broadly recorded live and has touches of Crazy Horse and The Faces about it. Acoustic guitars were banned. The harmonious onslaught paid off: Some Other Suckers Parade complete with its much-loved singles Not Where Its At and Some Other Suckers Parade entered the charts at No 6 in the UK. I really love the record, because its probably our least pretentious, Currie said in 1998.

Lars Huismann drops fourth essential release on Mutual Rytm with 'Catharsis', following his successful 'Sounds From The Past' trilogy.

German producer Lars Huismann has a percussive and groove-driven take on techno that often comes with scintillating melodies and separates him from others amongst the genre. His releases have come on labels such as Dolly and Soma; however, he has also quickly become an essential member of the Mutual Rytm family, having contributed to the label's 'Federation Of Rytm III' VA as well as serving up a trio of forward-thinking EPs in the form of his 'Sounds From The Past' trilogy. Delivering yet more stellar material on SHDW's thriving imprint, his latest EP delivers the newest evolution in his sound while maintaining his signature sonic essence.

The hunched techno funk of 'Divergence' kicks off with plenty of plenty up energy and tight, bouncy synth vamps, while 'Portal' goes deep into a futuristic landscape with static-laced synths and oversized hi-hat ringlets that ramp up the pressure. The mighty 'Neural' is brilliantly functional and linear techno with a playful synth that rides up and down the mix as the sleek and slamming drums race onwards. 'Riot' brings some extra raved-up madness with serrated synths and raw percussive energy, and 'Technician' then slips into a deeper, more paired back sound with liquid synth lashing about the mix as dubby undercurrents power along the punchy rhythms and freaky vocals bring the menace. Digital bonus cuts 'Incognito', a fizzing, busy, textured techno workout, and the machine soul of 'Submerged' close out this high-grade EP in style.

CHARLY RECORDS present the first ever reissue of the sought-after Gospel treasure Crying In The Street by Robert Sims and his Seven Brothers.
Originally released circa 1969 by Lelan Rogers on his Nashville based House Of The Fox imprint. The title track ‘Crying In The Streets’ is a Gospel anthem penned by Sam Matter, Kerry Porter and Ted Harris as a response to the assassination of Martin Luther King. It was recorded contemporaneously by Baton Rouge deep soul vocalist George Perkins who scored a regional hit when it was picked up by Lelan Rogers for his Silver Fox subsidiary. The song was covered to great effect by Buckwheat Zydeco, featuring Ry Cooder, and appears on the 2005 benefit album for Hurricane Katrina.
This is a forgotten gem, atmospheric and beautifully produced. It is a passionate, life-affirming record that resonates today just as much as it did over 50 years ago.

The 4 Levels Of Existence (Τα 4 Επίπεδα Της Ύπαρξης) formed around 1974 in Athens from the ashes of a band called
Frog’s Eyes. Some of their influences were groups like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Who or Iron Butterfly as well as traditional Greek music.
They recorded their sole album in just 10 hours with no overdubs and it was eventually released (500 copies only) on the small Venus label. The cover artwork was created by guitar player Athanasios Alatas. The band sadly split soon after but they left behind one of the most legendary and sought after albums not only from Greece but also from the worldwide heavy-prog scene.

Come Live With Me represents a creative peak that sounds fresher in 2025 than it may have in 1974. The first album on his Crossover label, it lives up to the label’s name by showcasing the man’s singular ability to cross over to any audience by making songs from any time or genre undeniably his own.

Each side of Come Live With Me sets a seamless mood: Side 1 is a romantic suite of lush, latenight ballads, while a non-stop soul party is cooking on side 2. This two-sides-of-a-Saturday-night concept lets Ray Charles blend modern sounds and timeless traditions in ways no other artist ever could.

Removed from the trappings and tropes of the mid-’70s music scene, and fully restored and remastered in cooperation with the Ray Charles Foundation, Come Live With Me is finally ready to be appreciated as the masterpiece it always was.

Poor Creature is comprised of Ruth Clinton, Cormac MacDiarmada and John Dermody, all three are members of other bands (Landless and Lankum respectively) who have built a large following on re-interpreting songs from the past Songs that have existed for centuries can seem immutable and anchored to time. A new generation of Irish musicians are keen to acknowledge that musical legacy, while reimagining the songs within a contemporary context. Poor Creature's sound - particularly in the context of contemporary Irish folk - offers something unique. There's the gauzy, underwater, almost psychedelic seams of 'Bury Me Not' and 'Adieu Lovely Erin'. 'All Smiles Tonight' and 'Hicks' Farewell' nod to the influence of American folk/bluegrass acts like Doc Watson and the Louvin Brothers. These shifting sounds are made possible by producer John 'Spud' Murphy, who has produced all of Lankum's albums, and worked with Junior Brother, OXN, Pretty Happy, Ye Vagabonds as as well as the final two albums by The Jimmy Cake, with whom John has played for over 20 years. "There's something about the everyday and the fantastical, being entangled, which I think Irish music does so well." This also sums up All Smiles Tonight, moving through stories and loss and history to create an otherworldly and timeless album for the ages.

Bulbous Monocle focuses its lens further into the legacy and archives of the Thinking Fellers Union Local 282. These Things Remain Unassigned—a phrase coined by Brian Hageman, one of the band’s musical snake appendages emanating from its Medusa crown—is presented as a double LP (gatefold jacket with a twelve page libretto). It gathers together the band’s singles, compilation tracks, outtakes and never before released gems encompassing the arc of TFUL’s musical corpus. Every track has been surgically remastered by Mark Gergis (Porest / Sublime Frequencies / Mono Pause) with his signature craftsman approach. This collection is an auditory and visual feast. The extensive booklet included features band ephemera, concert flyers, photographs, and commentary about each track from Mark Davies. Beyond the rare singles and unreleased tracks from the TFUL archives, are cover versions from such disparate artists and composers as Ennio Morricone, Krzysztof Komeda, The Residents, The Shaggs, Caroliner Rainbow and Pérez Prado. “…In addition to these compilation one-offs, there were also a few studio recordings that were never quite completed or released. Throw in an alternate mix or two and the handful of singles that came out on various labels over the years, and you end up with what I feel works well as its own body of work, a bunch of adopted oddballs that somehow fit together as a family. The German steel pan outfit has amassed a collection of 7s on the label that are all essential pieces in DJ boxes around the world.

The A side "Nautilus" is a cover of the Bob James uber classic that has been sampled by hip hop more times than maybe any other record. It is a DJ staple that has soundtracked many a dance floor and breakdance cypher. Bacao's version is a welcome new take on the tried and true original.

The B side is their cover of the Khruangbin cult classic "Maria También" and Bacao give the original version a run for its money. Steel pans ride over chunky drums to great effect and make this another must have for DJs around the globe

‘With Time, We Learned To Ask Less’ is the first duo album by Giuseppe Ielasi and Riccardo D. Wanke after decades of friendship and the occasional artistic collaboration. Following up on solo albums sees them seamlessly combining the sparse but lush aesthetics of those experiments throughout these 44 minutes. Having lived close to each other in Northern Italy, where the prolific mastering engineer Ielasi still resides to this day, he and Wanke were members of the group Medves together with Andrea Belfi, Renato Rinaldi and Stefano Pilia before Wanke relocated to Lisbon. When Ielasi, who had mastered Wanke’s recent solo albums including 2023’s »i« for electric pianos, was invited to play a concert in the Portuguese capital in the summer of that year, the two took the opportunity to go on stage together. Infatuated by the results of this fully improvised set, they organised a two-day session in Ielasi’s Monza studio shortly thereafter and edited the recordings over the course of the following months. The resulting album shows them moving slowly through sonic space and time, complementing and counterpointing each other’s playing. They leave each other room in which to unfold and let short moments of silence speak for themselves. ‘With Time, We Learned To Ask Less’ is the closest you will get to hearing the air sing.

Smut is the project of lyricist Tay Roebuck, guitarists Andie Min and Sam Ruschman, drummer Aidan O’Connor, and bassist John Steiner. Roebuck, Ruschman and Min started the band a decade ago in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since then, they’ve played alongside Bully, Wavves, and Nothing. After years in the Cincinnati DIY scene, they made their Bayonet Records full-length debut, How the Light Felt. The record was a revelation. Pitchfork called it “a rigorous, decade-spanning study,” and a “well-oiled spin on late-’80s guitar pop.” Under the Radar called it “pop perfection,” that “blends subtle hooks with wistful lyrics.” It was a record that explored grief through the lens of melancholic dreampop, using drum machines and layered, intricate melodies.
Tomorrow Comes Crashing, Smut's first record with O'Connor and Steiner, sees the band re-energized and trained on the limitless potential that comes with making music with people you love. Galvanized with a new lineup, Smut focused on creating a record that possessed the same towering intensity as the records that first got them into music: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, Relationship of Command. The outcome is ten of their most intense, bombastic, and focused songs to date.
Catharsis bursts through the seams throughout Tomorrow Comes Crashing. “Syd Sweeney, ”inspired by the actress, is the record's centerpiece. It's about how profoundly strange it can be to be a woman, to be misunderstood by people who don’t even know you. The song is driven by chugging guitars and big, rolling drums. In other words: stadium rock about perception. Paramore meets Dookie. “She connects to the youth and the girls in the water/All she amounts to is someone’s daughter,” sings Roebuck in one particularly poetic moment. The song comes to a thrashing metal-inspired breakdown. It’s ecstatic.
To make the record, Smut recorded “as live as they could,” alongside Aron Kobayashi-Ritch(Momma) in a studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn, over the course of ten days. “We have so much energy right now,” says Roebuck. Right before they went off to New York, Roebuck and Min got married, with the rest of the band by their side. The recording was a true labor of love — driving from Chicago with all their equipment, returning from 12 hour studio days to sleep on friends' couches and floors, Roebuck completely blowing her voice by the end. Smut has always been DIY. Because they love it. Because they have to do it–there’s no other option. Tomorrow Comes Crashing is the culmination of that DIY spirit: making a record that completely encompasses the intensity, moodiness, and emotion of their journey so far.

'Bird and Diz' is the legendary collaboration between two jazz giants: saxophonist Charlie Parker (nicknamed "Bird") and trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie (often referred to as "Diz") key figures in the development of bebop. Their partnership was pivotal in shaping the sound and direction of bebop and their recordings together are considered some of the most influential in jazz history.

This set contains the complete original LP 'Bird and Diz' (Verve MGV-8006), consisting of a quintet session which marked Parker and Gillespie's last studio date ever (although they would later be recorded together live on numerous occasions, including the celebrated 1953 Massey Hall concert). This session was also Parker's only studio encounter with the great Thelonious Monk. Side B features nine alternate takes from the session.

Overall, the partnership between Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie represents a
golden era in jazz history marked by innovation, collaboration and artistic excellence
and their music continues to inspire and captivate listeners, ensuring that Bird and Diz

Released in 1962, "Etta James Sings for Lovers" came out during a time when Etta James was Establishing herself as one of the premier vocalists in the music industry

The early 1960s were a fertile period for soul and R&B music, and James was at the forefront of this movement. It's about an album collection of romantic ballads and standards that showcase her powerful and emotive vocal abilities: known primarily for her blues and R&B hits, this album allows her to explore jazz standards and love ballads, demonstrating her ability to convey complex emotions and connect with listeners on a deep level. The album features accomplished session musicians who provide a sophisticated and polished sound: Over the years, "Etta James Sings for Lovers" has been appreciated as a classic example of a signifcant part of her discography, beloved by fans for its timeless quality. The arrangements feature lush orchestration, with strings and horns providing a rich backdrop for James' vocals and at the time of its release, the album was well-received by critics who praised James' vocal prowess and the sophisticated arrangements.

"Change of the Century" is the second album recorded by Ornette Coleman's quartet featuring Don Cherry on trumpet, Charlie Haden on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums and is considered one of the essential recordings of the avant-garde jazz movement. Ornette Coleman was a revolutionary figure in jazz, known for his innovative approach to improvisation and composition. He pioneered the "free jazz" movement, which broke away from traditional jazz structures and harmonic conventions.

His music often emphasized collective improvisation and thematic development over chord changes. The album's title reflects the spirit of innovation and change that Coleman brought to the jazz world with a significant departure from the bebop and hard bop styles dominant at the time, paving the way for new directions in jazz expression. Originally issued on Hut Records in June 2000, Alone With Everybody was eagerly anticipated, as it was Ashcroft's first recordings since the demise of the group he founded and led, The Verve - This re-issue replicates the 2000 UK first pressing and is available on audiophile 180g double vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

Opening the album with its string overture, "Song For The Lovers" signalled Ashcroft's intent immediately. Intensely melodic, anthemic, it picked up exactly where The Verve's 1997 multi-platinum album Urban Hymns left off. Lifted as a single, it reached No 3 in the UK and spent most of the summer on the charts.

Recorded at Olympic Studios and Metropolis in London, big, bold and frequently beautiful, Alone With Everybody raced to No 1 in early July; it played to all of Ashcroft's strengths, memorable hooks, catchy choruses, beats subtly influenced by dance music; the brass-blazing bold hoedown of "Money To Burn" was the album's second single; other highlights include the ballad "Slow Was My Heart", the upbeat joy of "C'Mon People (We're Making It Now)" and the reflective, string-enrobed "You On My Mind In My Sleep".

"It's a beautiful world," sings Ashcroft on opening track and lead single "Check The Meaning". Its eight-minutes seem a culmination of all of Ashcroft's work to date – a haunting guitar figure, swelling strings, and subtle orchestration back a lyric that catalogues the battle of love over evil, ending with Ashcroft assuring the listener "It's gonna be alright." It is a powerful beginning to a powerful album. "Buy It In Bottles" maintains the introspection of "The Drugs Don't Work", a mood that can be also found on "Running Away" and "Lord I've Been Trying"; while "Bright Lights" and "Paradise" bring the anthemic rock.

When Brian Wilson guests on one of your albums, it suggests a certain status has been attained; Richard Ashcroft demonstrated that he could hold his own in such company; both are songwriters of the human condition, and the song Wilson appears on "Nature Is The Law", closes Human Conditions in stellar fashion.

Keys To The World, Richard Ashcroft's third solo album, landed in January 2006 and quickly crept like a mile-a-minute vine to number two, whereto it clung for some time. Produced by long-time collaborator Chris Potter, it marks the former Verve frontman's last solo full-length for ten years, before its later supersession by 2016's These People. The LP leans heavy on orchestration, its string arrangements by Julian Kershaw performed by the London Met Orchestra, and electric viola parts from Bruce White sallying over its songwritten entirety. Sonically, Ashcroft dialled down the bombasticity of earlier outings for an analgesic, string-swept sound, dividing the lauds: praised by some for its melodic clarity maturer songwriting, others found it all too safe, though that didn't stop it going Platinum in the UK.

Undiscovered Recordings is a London- and Naples-based independent record label founded in 1994. Showcasing new and exciting production talent, Undiscovered was founded by a crack team of music industry experts, the two Angelos, Doug and Mario, in the midst of the dance music movement of the 1990s.

The Angelos met while working at UMM and Flying Records. Founding Undiscovered allowed them to move
away from the traditional dance music of the time and to highlight lesser-known artists and styles. Angelo
Tardio, in-house A&R, capitalised on his trail-blazing career as a DJ, as the founder of iconic label U.M.M., and his production career as Kwanzaa Posse, where he collaborated with huge talents such as Mano Negra, Manu Chao, King Chango, MC Solaar and Les Negresses Vertes, to name just a few. Doug Osborne, British DJ & Producer and co-founder. Angelo Bernardo brought his years of experience in the music industry to take over the business side of the company, and Mario Nicoletti came on board as a true living musical encyclopaedia and expert. Alberto Faggiana joined in 1998 to contribute his industry know-how to curate the legal and administrative aspects. And so the Undiscovered team was complete.

Undiscovered has since moved with the times, from classic dance genres into Balearic chill-out, all the while
maintaining its goals to showcase emerging producers and artists. After a long hiatus, and following a number of forced changes in the company, Undiscovered are back in full force. Kwanzaa Posse achieved success back in the 90's with such hits as "Wicked Funk", "African Vibrations" and "Musika!", all of which attracted collaborations with remixes by Massive Attack, Jam & Spoon, and Ralph Falcon & Oscar Gaetan - aka Murk Boys. Now the production unit responsible for such seminal tracks is back with a magical new track called 'Mali Chant'.

This fourth EP in the Time Crystals series sees Troy returning to the label with a low-key driver, carried by sharp percussion and filtered chords that keep the attention locked in before Ukrainian Svarog and Ma-gooch take over, delivering their signature sound - evolving pads, dreamy soundscapes - resulting in yet another beautiful early hours piece of music.

Wonderchild Luigi Tozzi proves once again that he is a master at blending ambient-influences with dubby atmospheres, resulting in music that fits both dancefloors and living rooms.
