Dream Ticket is back with a barrage of sonic bliss from SHUT boss Ryan James Ford. His is a futuristic vocabulary transmitted from a quarter century ago and decoded tomorrow: incunabulated ambience, aphextual textures, reflectivised rhythms. This EP is for anyone whose heart is in the techno, IDM, jungle & environs of the early-to-mid-90s, but whose feet are planted firmly in the here and now, most likely in the middle of a fearless dancefloor. Arkada Records Is A New Independent Electro/techno Imprint Hailing From London U.k. The Label Is Being Presented With The rst Split Vinyl Ep Featuring The Sounds Of T15dm (earwiggle /trensmat) And Errorbeauty (arkada, Crobot Muzik).

This is the second volume of the compendium of artists connected through their dark sounds called “Atlas of Penance”. Its main objective is showcasing the different explorations of occult aesthetics from around the world.

The EP opens the A side with a gloomy, feet-dragging, post-punk track by Hanging Freud, goes to a dream-like techno-ebm rave with Kenny Campbell and finishes this side with an industrial infused half tecnho/half electro track of Syndikat Kommando 98, a project by Viktor Lenis (Cute Heels, Modernista).

The B side is no less stronger, starting with a straight up techno banger by the prolific producer Drvg Cvltvre, moving on to a genre defying track filled with experimental elements fuelled with modular sythesis and harsh kicks by Black Potion, and ending the EP with an anxiety inducing dark ambient track by Dim Garden.

You must surrender. Because if you’ve followed Naum Gabo over the past 15 years – across various 12-inches, styles, and notable labels - and you’re listening to “F. Lux,” their first proper album, then you’re probably wondering how you wound up here, all the way down, barely able to see through the brain-clogging atmosphere and towering low-end. “F. Lux” is a deep, enthralling listen, alternating between moments of pounding, world-ending techno (“Schinokapsala” and “This 1”) and sharply imagined, surrealist scenes painted with metallic machines (“Aora” and “Haerstag”). There is light to be found in the darkness, but the only way out is through. Naum Gabo are Glasgow’s Jonnie Wilkes (also known as one-half of DJ duo Optimo) and James Savage (prolific mastering engineer). F. Lux was written and produced entirely by them at their Glasgow Hottrax Studios and mastered by James Savage. The album’s front cover artwork is a painting by cherished Scottish painter, Andrew Cranston. The vinyl was pressed at MPO in France using lacquers cut by Bob Weston in Chicago.

I am happy to present our first tape release by The Jaffa Kid as part of the brand new Digital Artefacts series.

The series is an ode to the sound of the 90s, from Electro, IDM and Jungle to further different experimental stuff and sounds. The choice of tape as format seemed fitting for the aesthetic of the series.

The first EP comes from UK based The Jaffa Kid (previously on 030303, Dischi Nottetempo, Gated Recordings and more) and is a solid mixture of Electro, Techno and beyond.

Cemento Atlantico, the electronic project of Italian producer and DJ Alessandro "ToffoloMuzik" Zoffoli, will release its new album Dromomania on June 21, 2024, via Bronson Recordings. Inspired by the concept of dromomania, or an irrepressible desire to travel, the album follows the critically acclaimed debut Rotte Interrotte of 2021. Dromomania will be available on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms, and features singles like "Garawek Khaos," "El Que Puede Hablar," and the newly released "Danza Negra." The album sees Cemento Atlantico blending house, future garage, post-dubstep, and world music, creating a darker, more rhythmic sound. Zoffoli's use of field recordings brings authenticity to each track, capturing the essence of various cultures. Reflecting on the pandemic's impact, Zoffoli notes that Dromomania carries a more critical tone, addressing the darker sides of humanity and society's failures during the crisis. With Dromomania, Cemento Atlantico embarks on a global musical journey, weaving historical narratives and cultural tales from Thailand, Mexico, Nicaragua, and beyond. Dance music has always been grounded in a sense of place. Chicago, Detroit, London, Berlin—a zip code can tell you as much about the music as the year it was made.

But beyond the nuts and bolts of the here and now lies a netherzone where some of the best electronic music floats, impossible to pin down. Swayzak’s Snowboarding in Argentina is one such record.

The title hints at its uncanny placelessness. The music has nothing outwardly to do with Argentina, for one thing. The work of UK producers David Nicholas Brown and James S. Taylor, it was recorded in a number of locations—mostly bedrooms—around London. Yet there is little that is quintessentially British about the music.

Instead, Brown and Taylor drew much of their inspiration from, on the one hand, the luminous chords and silky heft of Detroit techno, and on the other, the staccato drums and clipped textures that were then beginning to bubble out of Berlin and Cologne.

That brings us to the question of time. For if Snowboarding in Argentina belongs to nowhere, it is equally a product of nowhen.

On a practical level, the music took shape in the mid to late 1990s, although it took nearly 10 years for it to come to fruition. Brown and Taylor began jamming on instruments, then machines, in the late 1980s. Then, after Brown suffered a serious car accident, the two musicians began working together more seriously. Trial and error yielded a promising single with a downtempo vibe that a hired-gun studio producer promptly ruined; Swayzak retreated to their bedrooms.

They learned about Chain Reaction from a radio show, found new ways to burrow into the circuitry of their machines, and by 1996 they had hit upon their sound. brought 10 copies of the first to Berlin’s Hard Wax, sold them directly to the shop for a fistful of Deutschmarks, and turned around and spent the money on records; that’s how DIY electronic music worked in those days.) The album itself appeared in 1998 on London’s Pagan label and quickly built a cult following. It was clear that the music was in conversation with its contemporaries: Heard from the right angle, it was possible to imagine it as a halfway point between the proto progressive house of Underworld and the monochromatic minimalism of Kompakt. But it also didn’t quite sound like anything else around; it was a dispatch from an unknown territory that needed no special understanding to decipher.

A quarter century later, Snowboarding in Argentina sounds simply eternal. Certain hallmarks of ’90s production are available—the music’s almost murky warmth is a reminder of what electronic music sounded like before software swallowed everything into its digital maw—but there’s nothing dated about it. The exploratory nature of these tracks, as the result of experimenting with their machines’ limitations, never eclipses their musical or emotional essence.

Long since been deemed a classic, Snowboarding in Argentina remains an underdog in the annals of electronic music. Its semi-obscurity was surely not helped by the decision to publish nine of its original 12 tracks on the CD, and seven on the vinyl, with only four appearing on both formats. Twenty-five years after its original release, Lapsus’ Perennial Series edition unites, for the first time, all the album’s tracks as a single triple-vinyl package, rounding out the 12 original songs with previously unreleased material. Working off the original DAT premasters, Swayzak have created new edits of all the tracks. The result might be considered the definitive edition of the album as it was meant to be, after a 25-year journey. It seems fitting that an album so timeless would continue morphing throughout its lifespan. For fans, it’s the chance to hear a beloved album as never before. And for newcomers, it’s the perfect introduction to a record that, in its own quiet way, reshaped the sound of electronic music, opening up new frontiers unbound by cartography or calendars.

On the flip Ronny Nyheim returns with "EXP" in a Sotofett remake discovering further Dub Techno territories before ending as locked groove.

B-side also gives space to beautiful Balearic Ambient on "1st Wave Fusion" by L.A. 2000 & DJ Sotofett. With its 11 minutes of polymeter sequenced arpeggios, pads and synthesizer parts arranged with sonic drama not unlike the sunset itself.

The new Cristian Vogel album "1Zhuayo" sounds as if non-musicology & ultra-blackness is not an end or a destination to be arrived at, but as if it is the point of departure, much like tomorrow relates to the day after tomorrow. As if we have left the space of certainties and are moving instead into one of manifold possibilities. They are anticipated in the micro-structures of sound, which is the process of playing with and against the software. Beyond genre delimitation and fragmentation, it is non-music in the post, without itself immediately becoming a cliché, like deconstructed club music or hyperpop. Without being superficially conceptual, the musical material alone succeeds in creating a different, coherent, sonically possible world.

On 'Dream Less Suite', the first new album by The Hafler Trio since 2016, Andrew McKenzie unearths, resurrects and completed recordings he made through the years with Genesis P-Orridge.

The title of Ital Tek's seventh album "Timeproof" reflects what Alan Myson has observed and learned whilst making the album. Firstly, how distorted the perception of time is in the creative headspace - being in the studio creates a timeless environment, one's mind starts wandering and the perception of time is altered. Secondly, the bizarre effect of the last few years of lockdown have somehow infected the title, temporarily contracting our collective notion of time. And thirdly, Alan has learnt how spending time away from the studio can be as effective as being there, giving one space to process. Appreciating the power of being out in nature, putting other things into perspective, refreshing one's ability to approach work with both patience and creativity. Overall "Timeproof" feels more introspective than Alan's last album "Outland". Perhaps because of the time in which it was created or this new relationship to the creative process. The sounds and textures of the record hint at brutality and menace whilst also pulsing and evolving softly with a more refined interior life. It's expansive and elegant, neatly balanced between light and dark, more mossy and dreamy than the extremes of "Outland".

When making the album, Alan spent about a year or so working quickly and intuitively, churning out ideas, sketches and sound experiments without any attempt to finish or perfect anything. "I let it settle until I was ready to return to this body of raw material with fresh ears some months later, sometimes barely remembering what or how I’d done much of it." Over the course of another year he dived into the details, rendering all of this rough material and sound into something with form. Alan also visited older material and ideas, trying out, reworking and sampling, building it into this new body. The finished album feels open, with a gentle intuition that feels as if it's guiding you through.

La Monte Young was a primary influence on Minimalism, the Fluxus movement and performance art through his legendary compositions of extended time durations and the development of just intonation and rational number based tuning systems. With wife and collaborator, artist Marian Zazeela, they would formulate the composite sound environments of the Dream House. Seeing reissue for the first time since its initial 1969 release, Young and Zazeela's first full-length album is often referred to as »The Black Record« due to Zazeela's stunning cover design, complete with the composer's liner notes in elegant hand-lettered script.

Official re-issue of Javier Segura's album from 1986. Exciting tribal, ambient and experimental sonorities brought back in a newly remastered release.

Originally released in 1986, 'Nostalgia De Lo Humano' is almost unclassifiable. For Segura, styles are another form of repression, something that serves to label and keep track of those who sees, listens, buys or plays, and especially who sells. Despite the fact that Segura has been producing music continuously since the 1970s, his recognition as a musician was for a long time limited to experimental music circles. He had always controlled his career on his own, on the fringes of the industry. As Javier Segura himself says, his head is full of textures, rhythms and melodies. Through his textured productions, Segura opened up new dimensions to experimental music, using guitars, drum machines, trumpets, synths, or pedals.

By now you'll be aware just how prolific UK-based The Jaffa Kid is. It's obvious just by visiting his Bandcamp page. Release after release of quality breaks, jungle, techno, ambient, and downtempo experiments.

And this debut album for Gated doesn't disappoint, drawing from all those genres across two slabs of wax, underpinned with the Kid's keen ear for electronic music's hypnotic qualities.

These 10 tracks are raw and dancefloor-ready, but still retain that infectious listenability present in everything The Jaffa Kid produces.

Record of the week - Groove Mag

Alex Ketzer’s newest EP »Fourth Face« follows up right in the footsteps of his previous installments, continuing the Colognebased producer’s endeavour of blurring the line betwixt abstractadjacent techno and moody atmospherics through intricate narratives and vibrant motion. As ever with Ketzer, sound design is a matter of vital balance and focussed devotion, and no effort is spared in the sculpting of this dialogue between complex, slo-evolving soundscapes and surgically executed rhythms that unfolds as one fascinating audio-origami of sorts.

Typical of Ketzer’s subtle, tempered vision for dance music’s set of functionalities, the title track »Fourth Face« is a spitting sample of his craft, entrenched in ambient-laced pensiveness though purring with an understated tension that symbiotically breathes life in its own craggy landscape of jagged electronic sines and farreaching poetics. Clad in darker envelopes, »Xenon Eyes« takes a shot at industrial techno but injects it with the synth-riddled iridescence of meditative electronica and awry, bubbly dynamics of the modular grammar to shape his own hybrid language.

All in on the rugged, sexy breaks and zero-G jazz getting soaked up in reverbs, »Symbol Zone (Dub Mix)« offers a magnificent view into Ketzer’s cinematic headspace, as it grinds fragments of decayed urban motifs with that of a more hopeful sense of melody-making.
Tormented and ominous, »Infinity Now« shifts gears to establish a distinctly brooding facet of the German producer’s sound, crisscrossed by the maddened streams of stellar winds and anxieties at once, whereas »Black Sun« returns to a more serene state of stasis, again very much versed on the minute textural work and the heart-rending, brittle beauty of the piano.

A most compelling listen, the EP »Fourth Face« finds Ketzer at his most inspired and mature yet, deploying all evidences throughout its course that it indeed is the ripe upshot to a musician’s long evolving, ever-nurturing journey.

Brunnera is the exciting debut record by Glasgow artist Gordon Bruce - hand-picked for joint release by Matthew Herbert’s NX Records (an offshoot of his Accidental imprint), and Kit Records (London label and NTS Radio stalwarts.)

Following an outstanding cassette-only album for UK label Third Kind, Skander Ben Yahia's Metamorphosis EP for Gated builds on the Parisian's already impressive palette of sound. This is music for late night city walks, for mornings after the night before, for drifting to the edge of sleep. Powerful, emotive, and deeply resonant, this is electronica for the heads.

London residing, yet remaining very much Dublin's son Glimmerman returns for his third outing on First Second Label with Temple Sublet. Four across the board soundscapes into bass, 2-step and wub heavy anthems tipped off with a haunting verse from London based poet and lyricist Older Brother.

The harmonic research mentioned in "Late Hours" finally finds a more straightforward path, more defined but still wrapped in an aura of uncertainty, of mystery.


The musical investigation, rhythmic and melodic, is carried out on several fronts, hinting at many facets of electronic music but without ever wanting to define itself explicitly in one of them.

Dancing with Cicadas debut EP delivers elegantly synthetic narration, amplified by the modular wires. Entrenched in the grooves of the jungle, with every track mirroring a different conceptual and esthetic journey into our transcendental connection to the earth.

Dans Le Desert platform was created to explore mystical dreamlike states with a sense of futurism in it. We bring to life our own dreams guided by the mathematical language of sound inspired by the company of dancing spirits.

Following up on his much acclaimed debut album ‘Opal’ released in 2022, Batu heads into a new year introducing A Long Strange Dream : a new imprint dedicated to his spontaneous musical explorations, conceived with the aim to follow curiosities and share his own music in a back-to-basics and spontaneous fashion.

DDR004 is "Mapagkeun Kawani," the debut 12" EP from Bandung’s own Xin Lie. This three-track offering skillfully combines the ethos of Bandung's hardcore punk scene with the evocative rhythms of Sundanese Dogdog drums, crafting a sound that is reflective of Xin Lie’s diverse musical background and connection to Indonesia's musical history.

Xin Lie, born Diannov Pamungkas, has navigated multiple worlds, starting from his days in the hardcore punk scene to exploring the traditional performing arts of his Sundanese heritage. This journey informs his approach to production, particularly his use of traditional percussion which he samples and recontextualizes into a modern electronic drum palette.

The EP includes two remixes: producer Bagvs delivers a sharp, stripped-down take on "MAPAGKEUN," while New York's Laenz transforms "PANEN" into a fast-paced, percussive wormhole.

Diagonal welcome the return of Iranian composer and sound artist, Ata Ebtekar (SOTE), for his first outing for the label since 2019's "Parallel Persia" and "Artificial Neutrality". His catalogue runs to 15 albums (both under the Sote moniker and as Ata Ebtekar), plus a clutch of 12"s, remixes and a number of other projects via Mute, Opal Tapes, Warp and more.

"Soundsystem Persepolis" is Ata's response to the iconic performance at Persepolis by Iannis Xenakis in 1971. It's a five track collection of a futurism, a pummelling, rhythmic and harmonically complex trench of computer music.

dgoHn reappears in AF with this 4-tracker EP called "Portus", a dreamy exercise in fast/slow rhythms, atmospheric drumfunk, IDM and experimental electronica. Un-bloody-missable. New music from John Cunnane is always exciting, surely one of the modern scene's most forward-thinking artists. After the brilliant "Undesignated Remixes" in Love Love Records, this is another stellar release by dgoHn and Analogical Force!!!

Hospital rooms and bustling dance floors. It's hard to think of two spaces that are more different, but when Tomas Urquieta's father was hospitalized for several weeks with a serious illness last year, the NYC-based Chilean producer found himself in a particularly reflective mood--and an urgent need to make music. Armed with only his laptop and iPhone, he started making tracks at his father's bedside, filtering his feelings--along with samples he'd collected of medical equipment in the room-- through his production software. Those tracks now form the bulk of the Calatea EP, Urquieta's potent Seilscheibenpfeiler debut. Named after one of his favorite plants, the record is also a nod to his mother, who filled his childhood home with greenery, but its contents are ultimately closer to an untamed jungle than a tranquil garden. Calatea may have been created in the sober confines of a hospital room, but even its most introspective offering (the EP's title track, which also opens the record) is built atop feverishly percolating rhythms, their bassy swing pulling from Latin club sounds and the UK hardcore continuum alike. "Taro" is a thundering, siren-filled assault, while "Sotto Voce" feels almost claustrophobic, its maelstrom of churning percussion, banshee-like basslines, and blaring alarms grabbing hold of the dancefloor and refusing to let go. EP closer "Vitra" offers no respite, its marauding industrial stomp is as likely to inspire a cardiac event as it is a raucous dance party. These are heavy, hard-charging club tunes, and though Urquieta's father is thankfully all better now, the emotional turmoil caused by his hospital stay will forever be infused into the Calatea EP.

Shinoby is back on the iconic label that launched in the end of 2015. Each side includes one original mix and one remix from a few the most interesting and creative artists of the last years. Mass Prod delivers a sneaky techno banger carachterized by a warm modular feeling. Buttechno & Triš built a techno dub aesthetic track in a quietly perfected formula as in the mid-90’s.

Cristiano Grim is back with the second number of his experimental zine/compilation , FAKE2-120AMERICA .

Obsessed by the work of the cult poet Pierpaolo Pasolini and his seedy film “Salo or 120 Days of Sodom” , the original short story behind by Marquis De Sade and Dante’ s “Divine Comedy” structure which Pasolini mirrored during his screenwriting session with Sergio Citti, Cristiano Grim coded that “ anarchy of the power” in the contemporary North American society, through a desecrating prose and poignant portraits of a country drowned in 3 masochist “circles” : BLOOD, MANIAS and SHIT.

Original film photography was taken in the streets and the underground scenes of New York, Memphis, Nashville, Durham, Virginia and South Carolina. Jonathan Castro nailed his second collaboration with Cristiano Grim , disrupting his photography with a spirited overexposed technique and metallic colors. Katya Rekk and Ilya Kutoboy have been playing live shows for years and cut their teeth on the local improv, noise, and experimental scene in several projects and collaborations. Ranging from unholy fx-scape crackers to haunted lullabies but mostly striking as kinetic grooves, the band embodies a heavy, amplified synth sound, sitting somewhere between machine sequencing, processed vocalizations and use of DIY electronics. The enfant terrible of Katya's grrrl high-energy and improvisational tactics paired with Ilya's mutant beats blends into an idiosyncratic sonic realm that empowers you in its own way.

"Clinamen" is the random and unpredictable movement of atoms, which inexplicably change direction during their fall and thus encounter each other. From this chance encounter, the divine does not arise but actually dies, since the atom is nothing more than the aggregation of infinitesimal parts of matter, converging into unity. From this one, from this singular, from this self, I want to escape. Having abandoned the vain glory and hope of passions, I strive towards the sacred, for the gods themselves are also made of atoms. In this sacred secularism of mine, in this exodus from myself, I finally recognize the truth: there is no difference between us and them. Everything converges into a single point, which is the whole. And I find peace. You will find the rhythmic and unpredictable chaotic tale of the atomic fall towards oneself. As the infinitesimally small and the infinitesimally large come to coincide in the creative moment, even time bends and adapts in the service of this imperceptible revelation. Through post-tribe sounds of ancient remiescence to the most contemporary clubbing subculture, passing through an exasperated minimalism that leaves no detail behind. Complex, elegant, profound.
