Orphan Swords - License To Desire Remixes

Hand-Numbered Edition of 200 black/white label, full colour folder sleeve in heavy PVC outer with download code.

Aurora Borealis is proud to unleash Orphan Swords' License To Desire Remixes' LP on limited edition vinyl on Aurora Borealis on May 15th, alongside the reissue of License To Desire'.

The sonic tangle and entheogenic orgy of the demonically inspired Asmoday' and the tranced-out Hooker', are given workovers by Helm, Icon Template, Black Rain, Prostitutes and Svengalisghost.

This is remix as rite of destruction, the tracks being disfigured rather than beautified for commodification. Awkward, uncomfortable listening rubs shoulders with pounding bass, post-techno hiss squall prevails. And then there's the superbly dirty fever-dream lope of the Black Rain remix.

Bio: Formed in 2013, Orphan Swords is a Belgian electronic duo. Their music, described as a brutal hypnosis' by Ransom Note, has been released on Desire Records, Clan Destine and Idiosyncratics. Idiosyncratic is indeed a description that perfectly fits both their releases and live performances. Recently back from the US, they have shared bills with acts as diverse as Oathbreaker, Andy Stott and Vatican Shadow.

Their new collaborative side project Black Swords with Stuart Argabright of Black Rain (Blackest Ever Black) was released on Vienna's Noiztank label. "The ten-minute Marchosias'...builds into a droning blur with surging drums, echoed, incomprehensible vocals and all sorts of sharp edges. "Asmoday" conjures its own mass of screeching, cackling distortion, but adds an icy sense of melody through a few sustained synth riffs, and fixes everything to a rolling kick. "Hooker" is the most subdued thing yet from Orphan Swords, but it's no less potent. Its steady bass thrums and light, hazy swirls of harmonized noise make for a supremely soothing comedown." - Resident Advisor

Blasted - R.evolution

This is the first project of a series of vinyl, which aim is to explore the deep link between man and analogic machines. Every track is sampled by analogic hardware machines in order to keep the unique, distorted, boiling sound like only these instruments are able to do. This four-track release is the result of a dogged industrial groove fixed by the deepest techno side of the drum. It mesmerizes with the electric pulse of its eclectic riffs and the power of its raving sound.

Uncanny, fervid music from fire-walking rituals, recorded in the village of Agia Eleni, Serres, Greece, in 1979 (and originally released in a tiny edition by the redoubtable Editions Zero and Echomusic), alongside killer new invocations - excoriated, dread, ecstatic, driven - summoning the saints their own way.

12.06.2017

This highly anticipated release by Los Angeles based artist, AXKAN, delivers a powerful message to the techno underground, letting everyone know this record hasn't come to this point by mistake. With powerful remixes by Luis Flores, Pinion and RolandoHödar to support, AXKAN delivers a strong statement with 'Tension', a techno masterpiece with broken industrial rhythms that is bound to shake floors, and crack the surface. He masterfully creates some true and raw emotion, with his dark, sinister and gritty sounds that is guaranteed to grab attention from the beginning. Axkan's self-confident creativity, however didn't come alone. Techno heavyweight Luis Flores provided a remix that is nothing short of spectacular. He encapsulates Axkan's raw, dark noises, and completely manipulates them into a gnarled and twisted rendition. Pinion's remix perfectly complements the release in a cohesive way to get the dance floor moving. His unique characteristics include a deadly vicious groove with glitchy vocals combined with deep melodies. Aerotek founder, RolandoHödar, had to get his hands in there, with his industrial techno breaks remix to add to this ferocious ride. With all tracks united together, this EP is rooted with serious energy and will undoubtedly tear speakers apart. It exploits experimental to traditional 4X4 percussion workouts and is definitely worth listening.

Roll The Dice - Born To Ruin

Roll the Dice are back with a new full length album, 'Born to Ruin'. The Swedish duo, consists of Malcolm Pardon and Peder Mannerfelt, both established musicians in their own right.
Pardon's background producing scores for film and television is reflected in Roll The Dice's cinematic aesthetic., while Mannerfelt's acclaimed third solo album 'Controlling Body' landed in 2016 and follows on from his acclaimed work as producer for Fever Ray.
In 2013 the pair contributed to the Blanck Mass-curated score for the Belgian horror movie 'The Strange Colour ofYour Body's Tears', while last year they composed part of the score and end
credit theme for the drama series 'The Last Panthers'. The duo have performed live at Sonar,
Unsound, Primavera, ATP, Mutek, Norberg, Roskilde and Semibreve festivals as well as alongside an exclusive orchestral setting at Norrlands Opera.
Compared to the epic, sweeping compositions of the duo's earlier records, Born To Ruin is stripped to the bone - a collection of concise, sharply evocative, jazz-infused music that's more smoky
basement than orchestral hall.
Following the stately orchestral explorations of 2014's Until Silence, the music here is lithe, hollow and furious, evoking a fractured world of economic and political instability.

Perc - Bitter Music

Perc

Bitter Music

CDTPTCD008
Perc Trax
09.06.2017

Perc (aka London based Ali Wells) returns with 'Bitter Music', his third album following 'Wicker & Steel' (2011) and 'The Power And The Glory' (2014). As before the album will see a release on his own Perc Trax imprint, giving Perc the complete creative control needed to realise his vision of what should be a milestone release for both himself and Perc Trax.

Originally a very inward looking album when work started on it in March 2016 the extensive political change happening in both the UK and around the world forced the album to widen its perspective. By the time the album was finished in December, it was clear that the sentiment of tracks such as 'Look What Your Love Has Done To Me' was as equally applicable to the micro-politics of person relationships as it was to concerns for the future of a country in a state of flux.

Pre-production for the album begun at Eve Studios, a residential studio just outside of Manchester, UK which specialises in collecting and restoring equipment salvaged from the sadly defunct BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The palette of sounds created during these sessions lends the album the sound of early electro-acoustic experimentation, especially evident on tracks such as 'Wax Apple'. Live instrumentation also plays a larger role on this album than on any previous Perc releases with Wells playing piano on many tracks and Ian East's flute playing featuring on 'Chatter'. The album also features a number of vocal collaborations including one with Gazelle Twin. Post-production, mixing and arranging was done at Perc's North London studio before the album was mastered by Perc Trax's regular mastering engineer Matt Colton.

Sonically the album takes in everything from strung out vocal treatments to the type of warehouse rabble rousers Perc has made his own since his very first releases. More dance floor focussed than his previous albums yet pulling from a wider range of sounds 'Bitter Music' shows a development and maturing of Wells' music that could not have been foreseen just a few years ago.

Delicately balancing the personal and the political, 'Bitter Music' stands apart from most recent techno albums as it continually pushes outwards rather than concerning itself with the microscopic refinement of already established sounds. It is an album unafraid to take chances from an artist continually looking for his next step forwards.

Orphan Swords - License To Desire

Orphan Swords see the reissue of their License To Desire' LP on limited edition vinyl on Aurora Borealis on May 15th. The Belgian duo bring a heady, fog shrouded sonic maelstrom to the label, perfect for the post-truth era.

What sort of music is this What genre do we file it under Hard to say. It sounds like a record that Aurora Borealis should release. There's chaos, there's unhallowed chanting, there's some fierce rhythm and there's undeniably some abuse of electronic equipment. We'll leave the definitions up to the listener, but with titles referencing demons of Goetia and the world's oldest profession we'll let the good times roll.

Formed in 2013, Orphan Swords is a Belgian electronic duo. Their music, described as a brutal hypnosis' by Ransom Note, has been released on Desire Records, Clan Destine and Idiosyncratics. Idiosyncratic is indeed a description that perfectly fits both their releases and live performances. • B2: Arabische Nacht
  • B3: Ein Kleiner Walzer
  • B4: Lieben Ist
  • B5: Parademarsch

Ultra-rare D.I.Y minimal / synth-pop / industrial / darkwave album from 1986!

Kozmonaut was the personal project of a young & talented Canadian musician called Michael Gutierrez, who moved to San Francisco in the early 80s. Influenced by Kraftwerk and German culture / electronic music, Michael recorded the Flieg' album all by himself at his garage studio, using the pseudonym of Hans Schiller'.

1000 copies were pressed on his own label, Vier Productions Inc, but they were never distributed or sold at the time, with virtually the entire pressing being discarded, as Michael, a perfectionist, was not satisfied with the spelling mistakes on the cover, among other things. In 1989, Michael, along with Pieter Ziegelmeier, formed the famous industrial / electronic band Kode IV.

Sadly, Michael contracted AIDS and passed away in 1994. All the contents of his garage (tapes, albums, synths and recording equipment) were sold for cheap or ended up in the street.

Fast forward to 2010: An adventurous record hunter (Christian Peintner) finds a copy of the Flieg' album at a thrift shop in San Francisco. At first, he thinks it's a German album but after some investigation, he discovers the name of Michael Gutierrez which leads him to Kode IV and then to Peter Ziegelmeier. He visits Peter who tells him the real story of Michael Gutierrez aka Hans Schiller and Kozmonaut.

Flieg' is an excellent album, a crossover of a wide range of styles from early Industrial (paving the way for Michael's later sounds with Kode IV), to Synth-Pop, Experimental Electronics, ambient and Dark Wave. Michael uses the vocoder very effectively and in one of the songs, Tidal Meditation', he recorded the Golden Gate Bridge fog horn to use it as a sample.

Axkan / Pinion / Dolgener / Iformat - Cast 002

In the CAST tradition, includes 4 far reaching and artist signature tracks from Axkan, Pinion, Dolgener and iFormat.

// Axkan delivers a highly experimental and punishing work for CAST. A dark environment is developed through the use of analog machines droning and screaming in the background whilst the beats tease the listener by never pushing over the edge of anticipation. Great builder to open with.

// Pinion delivers us back in time with his CAST. Classic sound, acid drenched, broken beat madness with a timeless approach. There isn't much more to say besides expect to find this tune popping up in a warehouse near you.

// Dolgener delivers a peak time floor smasher with his CAST. Relentless and unforgiving in every sense. Top notch distortion and noise atop heavy pummeling beats lead to a breakdown and build which will ensure the dance floor turns into a riot.

// iFormat delivers a dark brooding basement track for his CAST. This grungy piece contains syncopated hooks, dusty drums and stomping bass drums which create a type of hypnosis for the dance floor.

Across four bristling cuts, he is the first to represent the label's dedication to classic techno with a modernist twist. Human Image further refines Manni's flair for constructing hypnotic techno that surges with detail. The four tracks provide a vivid dip into the dancefloor, placing you firmly in front of the speakers, head first into a manic dance. With previous releases on Black Sun Records and Perc Trax, as well as support from the likes of Surgeon, himself an inspiration for the label, Manni is the perfect artist to launch Leyla into the world. From the blistering roll out of 'Symbiotic' to the hypnotic pound of 'Bring The Brave In', the swung rhythm of 'Pascal's Gambit' to the cavernous inferno of 'I Was Desire', Human Image is a reflection of the bodily pleasures of techno. It is what you'd see if you could hold a mirror up to dancing devotees at any rave worldwide. It is, like Leyla's own occult origins, both light and dark. Leyla is a brand new label dedicated to recapturing the authentic feeling of techno from a specific era while retaining a modern touch. It's a platform for the music to grow with inspiration from a wide range of styles - industrial, folk, electro. Leyla brings it all together for a new generation.

On the flip side, Mass#3 brings back the mood of a horror movie soundtrack, with bleepy riffs on the leading sequence. ussell Haswell strikes bone on this 2-track, 20 minute follow-up to the napalm massage of 'Conceptual nO!se' for Poland's Bocian label, and his fearsome split with Pain Jerk for Editions
Mego. It also marks his return to the catalytic Diagonal imprint after the deviant blatz of his '37 Minute Workout' LP in early 2014, which was hailed at No.11 in The Quietus albums of the year so far. 'Double A' renders Russell at his slyest and most honest, presenting spasmodic, un-edited improvisations belying influence from the pivotal epoch of diamond-cut '80s freestyle, industrial and Detroit techno. Depending on your perspective, they're either splintered, tetchy DJ tools or skeletal nO!se inversions. Either way, they bristle and spark with a compulsive nervous energy and disciplined impulse control that's Haswell to the core: challenging, uncompromising and bloody crucial. On the A-side, 'Foxy' sparks manic hi-hat chatter and bruxist squall masticated with unpredictable intensity, angled and affective like a box of knock-off fireworks hoyed at the 'floor. Stand back and watch 'em scatter. On the flip, the mercurial sleight-of-hand at play in 'One Take Dub No Edit' gestures the hard-ass chops of 12' bonus beats and the show-off breakdown edits of Carlos Berrio or The Latin Rascals. A non-stop, one-shot flashback to a vital time when futurist Latin freestyle and industrial funk were the dancer's choice. The 12' vinyl is due to arrive on Diagonal around the same time as Russell's incredible collaboration with Philip Best's consumer Electronics for Dirter, all surely cementing his position as one of the world's most valued and necessary techno mutants.

Carval Tarek - Nation De La Boue

Next on the cultish Editions Gravats, Low Jack slashes and burns thru a stack of choice french hardtek and dutch/ german gabber selected by his partner in crime, Jean Carval.
Dissecting and then stewing the crusty scally sound of late '90s continental Europe in its own juices, the results are cooked up into 42 minutes of oblique, pulsating savagery bound to leave bits in your teeth.
Swallowing the raver's spine whole and spitting out the marrow, Nation De La Boue is a severely warped take on an already severe sound, masticating the rotten entrails of classic Cavage and Hangars Liquids-associated acts - UHT, Saoulaterre, Yann Dub, Bambule, No Tek - and transforming them into a disfigured and contorted mind gurn laced with lysergic voices, mutated hyper-rhythms and K-holing trapdoors.
If you've never heard a 3m tall, 12m wide soundsystem play 200bpm hardcore at 7 in the morning,
you basically haven't lived. However , as that means 99% of folk are effectively just walking dead,
this tape offers scant opportunity to actually grasp life by the short and curlies, provided you have the required soundsystem and an abandoned airfield to run amok at daft O'Clock. Although your bedroom and a battered boombox with functioning tape deck will definitely suffice, too.

Simbiosi - Indastria Ep

Rimini, Italy's Simbiosi rip out their first 12" proper on the Cosmo Rhythmatic label after leaving a wide berth since their debut 3LP shockout, Elements for Actress' Werk Discs imprint in 2015 and a subsequent appearance on Actress' DJ-Kicks mix. In a fiercely condensed session of hardcore techno thistle and knackered throbs, the Indastria EP slugs like a rusty Italian motor with a wonky cam shaft, constantly threatening to spin out of control with each gear shift but kept on course by way of backstreet-mechanic engineering
It's grim and remorselessly underground material, banking the escalating NPLGNN-style filtered noise of HRD90 at the front and cycling thru the bombed-out doom core trample of Indastria to the depressive collapse of Eve with its carmine horror pads on Side A, then spluttering out the tarry churn of Dicentra and chaotic inverted bass drum pressure of Teiwsjh to round out the B-side and leave no doubts behind their primitive intentions.

Shadows - Fear Of The Imagination Ep

Shadows aka AnD remerge after their unforgettable debut on Shifted's Avian imprint in 2012. The long awaited return finds its home on Leyla Records, in the form of four diverse yet cohesive experimental cuts that take the listener on a journey through the oppressive, the rhythmic, the funky and abrasive.

Fear Of The Imagination commences with a paranoid piece of intense, evolving noise and rhythmic splattering. A spellbinding sense of woozy psychedelia entrances the listener with deconstructed drums punctuating the piece. The improvisational feel to 'Leaves In The Wind' sets the precedence for the non-conformity that flows throughout the EP.

Track two, 'What If They Are Watching You' sits somewhere between Nine Inch Nails and The Sprawl, with rhythmic intensity greeting the listener immediately at 120 BPM. Masked and ominous vocals creep in and out as metallic sound design washes over the track.

Track three 'On A Mad Train' is possibly the groups most experimental piece to date. Droned out guitars and ascending synth lines create an progressive palette that maintains masterful musicality dowsed with menace.

The closer 'Lights Out' bursts with slapping synth lines and a distorted kick which acts as the frame for the bed of noise. An ideal closer for an EP that exudes originality on a label that continues to push the boundaries.

Covariant - Some More Equal Than Others

Poverty Is Violence kicks off 2017 with a 4 track EP written by a well known soldier of the house / techno scene, Having notched up releases on numerous go to labels, he has established himself as one of the most consistent and talented artists of the last decade.

Covariant (his pseudonym for Poverty Is Violence) takes the tougher driving elements of forward thinking techno and merges it with the house sensibilities of early Chicago and New York. He delivers 3 storming tracks that come with a killer remix from Poverty's other secret warrior of the dance, XXX.

A1 Hum, combines killer distorted synth lines with huge pounding kicks driving along at a rate of knots, and having been extensively road tested it's safe to say it kicks hard on the floor.

A2 Devils Drums is a psychedelic drum work out that sounds like it was produced by the dark lord himself. Rolling distorted hats, snares and kicks tear your face off like John Travolta on crystal meth. Proper food for the dance floor.

B1 Hum (XXX remix) XXX returns to Poverty with his killer synth antics. Waves of heaviness attack your senses like soldiers storming a beach -it's pure dance floor murder cultivated and designed to destroy the floor and your mind.

B2. Druggy Drum is a pounding melodic acid workout. A funked out backline and drugged out rolling beats keep the workout chugging whilst spacey atmospherics encompass you as the track rolls forward with an abstract, ever developing Mills-esque riff - killer stuff.

This ep is already supported by those in the know including, Delta Funktion , DJ Pete, john heckle, Bas Mooy, Ben Sims, Charlton, Shifted, 65D Mavericks, Kamikaze Space Program, James Ruskin, Simon Shreeve / Monic, Stranger, J.Tjin, Damcase, 138 and many more.

Limited to 300 hand-stamped white labels

Perth Drug Legend - Bliss & Envy: Halfers On A Fishbowl

One half of Scottish duo Clouds, Perth Drug Legend tear off a solo EP of rugged, apocalyptic bloke-techno. Stunners, all of them. Freak genius at work.
What more can be said about Clouds, young prodigies who have put out as much innovative techno in the past few years than anyone. The story takes a twist with a wealth of material being released by PDL, hot off a remix of Tiga's Bugatti and releases on Resin and Westend Communications. The sound is reminiscent of Ghost Systems Rave, but there's the feeling that things have gotten even more refined, something that smacks of a real subcultural movement.

Opener Balquhidder Ruins is a stomping gate-crasher, the tempo pulled back just enough to feel the grit of industrial funk, everything restrained to it's bare essentials. Monzievaird swings heavily around a few twinkling bleeps, sparse, chunky kicks that thunder through the greased hats. Pushing things even more into the dark corners with overdriven, haunting resonance is Clackmannanshire Crusaderz, which sounds like the soundtrack to being blacked out on the ground in a Berghain tunnel. Thisistullohnottibetpal adds a mystical, multi culti dimension with some mountain flute inexplicably soaring through the air before a bell breakdown zens things into a forceful yet tranquil climax.

If that madness weren't enough, there's a digital bonus track which is an absolute bomb if you're into lower tempos and hip hop inflected bangers.

Stunners, all of them. Freak genius at work.
