Patås premieres his new label LEK with 4 tracks toying around in the Techno/broken beat spectrum. "Måsans dødsleie" (Måsans deathbed) starts the EP following the last journey of Måsan, a character that everybody knows; the one guy in every group of friends that just cant stop partying, the re-uper to re-up them all.
Glitchy percussion, freaky synthriffs, and a heart monitor guides him all the way to the great beyond. Ethereal "Atlantic Potion" (made in collaboration with Canadian Jamie Cox) closes the side out with its cold lushness. On the other side the theme music from Final Fantasy 6 gets reharmonized and redrummed in "Hommage a Uematsu", for some guaranteed nerd chills to all you JRPG clubbers.
Last track "TMA 4ever (Patås remix)" turns Kim Dürbecks epic ambient tune into a broken beat journey with accompanying bird sounds and hectic percussion.

REPRESSED !!!!!
Gui's fresh hip-swinging Techno goes directly into the interface of experimental Minimal & catchy Tech House.
this is the long-awaited, highly-anticipated debut full-length release from architect, producer, musician and composer, gui boratto, born in sao paulo, brazil. those who have followed his steady stream of 12" singles are already well acquainted with his remarkable ear for coming up with emotive, savvy dance music. whether it be his minimal-techno burners for kompakt's k2 imprint, energetic house for steve bug's audiomatique recordings and plastic city, and of course, there was "like you," the sensational pop-techno anthem that broke him wide open on the international circuit early last year. though he recently began producing under his real name (debuting with a remix for the film city of god), what many don't know about gui boratto is that for over 10 years he has been one of brazil's most in-demand producers having worked with such consecrated artists/bands as pato banton, steel pulse, desiree, manu chao and many, many others. with chromophobia, boratto surpasses all experience and expectation with infinite catchy hooks, lazy synths, romantic vocals, and so many shimmering techno-colors, it'll make your eyes squint in the sunshine. many scribes spoke that last year was the year techno learned how to make a proper artist album. well, boratto very well could be the first to perfect the art with this momentous release. it's easy to coin gui boratto as "varied" and "eclectic," however, gui brings a vast spectrum of influences together with an uncanny sensibility to make arguably the seminal kompakt record filled with all the grace and roar in the world to shake the bottoms of the biggest dance haters out there, and get our fans so excited they'll feel like they're on their fifth caipirinha raving on top of the sugarloaf

Snork Enterprises goes back to the future. For this one-of-a-kind
release we decided to skip a few catalogue numbers and go straight to #1000'. Because nothing less than those four big blocky letters could describe the boldness of this record
containing the most groundbreaking tracks of the 1990s underground techno scene by one of the most snorky and most famous artists:
MR. NEIL LANDSTRUMM.
Quoting him: It's an ep of some of the most influential tracks of the alternative UK techno sound from the 1990s. The UK school of techno was wildly different to the more accepted Detroit techno imports of the time, gnashing its teeth to an altogether more alternative and cracked out beat. The whole point of it was to sound as different and unique as possible. Standing out was the 'thing' then, not the business techno of today.'In the spirit of a time, which was bursting with energy, Snork Enterprises was founded. And
exactly those tracks have had a major impact on the further development of the unique snorky label sound. The following statement by the label owner CHRISTIAN SCHACHTA makes it
crystal clear:
For me this release is highly emotional because it reflects the very roots of Snork Enterprises. Neil was one of the artists who have influenced the sound of the label the most, and especially those four tracks have always belonged to my top favorite ones. As soon as I sensed there was a chance of putting them altogether on one record as a re-release, I could not withhold myself but give it a try and finally and fortunately publish one of the most important Snork Enterprises releases of all times - for the label and for me personally.

A collection to celebrate the label’s 20 years in the business of releasing timeless techno and house tracks from the crème de la Crème of the artist roster.
“We like our bike, it is made for 3. Our Mike sits on the back you see. We like our Mike and this is why, Mike does all the work when the hills get high.”
Timeless words from the great Dr. Seuss, and in considering the 20 year history of Mike Shannon's Cynosure label, there could be no truer sentiment. From it's humble beginnings in a sleepy Canadian town formerly known as New Berlin (Kitchener, Ontario) to it's current home in Berlin proper, the label has grown to become a nurturing launch pad for artists from around the globe, and one of the most dependable and consistent providers for those in search of deep minimal funk of the house and techno persuasion. Much like Shannon himself, each and every release in the label's now vast catalog reveals itself with unhurried, confident class, and always with a wink and a wry smile.
In celebration of the label's 20th anniversary, Shannon has amassed another peerless collection of tracks from his nearest and dearest which, much like every banger in the back catalog, are certain to become permanent fixtures in record bags of DJs with an ear for taking dance floors straight down the rabbit hole for many years to come.
Featuring contributions from fellow Canadians Mathew Jonson, The Mole, and Deadbeat, Shannon's frequent collaborator Dewalta, and American legends Ryan Crosson and Brett Johnson to name but a few, Cynosure 20 is a testament to Shannon's stalwart commitment to the music he loves, and the incredibly talented group of merry pranksters he's brought along with him for what, it's safe to say has been one hell of a journey... may it continue for many years to come.

On textstar+ Jan Jelinek brings together the material from the CMYK series, four EPs he released between 1999 and 2002 under the pseudonym farben (the German word for both colours and paints), on a vinyl double LP for the first time. The selection of tracks has been remastered from the original tapes, joined by two additional pieces that appeared on compilations during the same period.
A Polaroid. Still life with tangled leads and consumer electronics, late twentieth century. Black and various shades of dirty white are the dominant non-colours. The image’s spatial depth remains diffuse, the links between its elements speculative. A note stuck to the wall (a legend, perhaps, or an all-explaining blueprint in text form?) is impossible to decipher. You can’t see what connects the picture’s signs. You have to hear it.
farben says: Every sound is a text. A bearer of meaning in search of a reader. Hoping the ideas inscribed in its autonomous existence will be understood as intended. While its beauty lies precisely in misunderstanding, in reading the coded message a new way every time. A thousand colours of sound, a thousand different ways to hear, to see, to understand.
Another new element is the Polaroid, showing the origins of a world: Jelinek’s home studio in Berlin at the time.
farben says: Move your body! The project has its roots in Jelinek’s love of house as a reductionist vision of soul. Of four to the floor as a proposition that can be accessed anywhere. Of electronic dance music as a realm of possibility that can be continually expanded. farben was written as contemporary house music. As a text about excitement and euphoria. The arrangements were made directly while recording to DAT, on a twelve-channel mixing desk. Several track titles suggest a link to live concerts, coupled with the context of machine music and bedroom recording. Others affirm pop music’s most extravagant stock phrases about various states of love.
Jelinek produced the tracks with the aim of making music for dancefloors. An idea that failed very productively. In the locations to which it was originally addressed, the project barely figured. But people did listen, and they listened all the more closely to this music that opened up new acoustic and associative scope for house. farben is the opposite of genre: a music spawning new terms (clicks & cuts, micro-house) that never manage to fully capture it.
farben says: Signifiers. The four CMYK EPs are designed as a network of references that cannot be missed but that can also never be precisely deciphered. The vectors of sound, word and image point to Isaac Hayes and Ornette Coleman, to Detroit and the first generation of the Red Army Faction, to Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. So multifarious that they are distorted to the point of recognition. Overall we hear sonic docufictions whose appealing vagueness derives precisely from this oscillation between clarity and ambiguity, which is also the source of their poetry: the lyricism of the pure circulation of signs.
The artwork is based on photographs of former Red Army Faction members, broken down into the four colours of the CMYK model. The motifs dissolve into individual dots of a single colour, so close to the faces that their expressions are only hinted at. Taken together, the individual colours compose a new whole out of fragmentary material, defying definition and thus maintaining their vibrancy. The same occurs on the level of sound. The sampler Jelinek used for these tracks had to be fed with floppy disks, imposing a memory limit of 1.44 megabytes per audio quotation from soul or jazz records. As a necessary consequence of this, the individual references, like the dots of colour, are dissolved into details and abstractions. They appear as splinters that recombine in new ways to create new meanings. The joy of collapsing metaphors.
farben says: New departures. Even two decades after its original release, textstar+ does not come across as an epitaph to the modern era. Instead, it appears as a euphoric affirmation of the utopias of the twentieth century, translated into new sound texts via the aesthetic strategies of abstraction, collage, networking and speculation. 1.44 megabytes of history, one thousand signifiers, one album. From “Live ...” to “... Love”.

Another juicy vinyl from Positive Not Happy, releasing the third ep signed by label owners The Lumens. The title track “Milosky” starts as a high voltage electronic club groove typical of the duo, developing on a straight subtle bassline with airy arpeggios and contemporary acid elements. On the remix task, none less than Federico Molinari delivers a surprising electronic funk gem filled with plenty of synths combined in a top-class cosmic jam. On the B side The Lumens include in the Ep their very first studio joint, “Krember” is a solid spacy track lead by an addictive acid phrase and lush pads for a sure massive crowd reaction. Turin’s rising talent Denaila remixes “Sunrise”, completing the pack with an impressive raw minimalist cut.

London-based DJ and producer Jay Duncan collaborates with saxophonist Ben Vince on her debut release for Phantasy, introducing two wildly imaginative compositions alongside a simmering remix from Ricardo Villalobos.
From the first notes of brass, quickly melting into a lucid shuffle, it’s clear that ‘In Limbo’ exists on its own terms. Vince's virtuoso playing, a feature of former collaborations with the likes of Joy Orbison and Mica Levi, is here gradually manipulated by Duncan into a hugely ambitious trip. This meditative and mysterious approach draws listeners deeper into a liminal, minimal space somewhere between the Fourth World as imagined by Jon Hassell and four AM on a dancefloor in South London.
Duncan deftly raises the tension for the title track’s more percussive and arguably club-ready sibling ‘Anti-Purgatorio’, drawing out almost impossibly taut and inventive rhythms constructed around wormholes from which spill Vince’s instrumentation, washed downstream amid slippery modulations and a distinctive
analogue atmosphere.
Ricardo Villalobos adds to his own superlative history of remixes with a characteristically trippy take on ‘In Limbo’. Spanning nearly fifteen-minutes, the legendary Chilean-German innovator subtly reimagines this ambitious record in form true to both his own musical heritage as well as Duncan’s futurism.

There’s nothing stopping us from automating something.
Nothing is stopping us from being automated.
Form does not differ from emptiness, emptiness itself form. Sensations, perceptions, formations, and consciousness are also like this.
All beings & time are marked by emptiness; they neither arise nor cease, are neither defiled nor pure, neither increase nor decrease.
Therefore, given emptiness, there is no form, no sensation, no perception, no formation, no consciousness, no eyes, no ears, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind; no light, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no object of mind.
Far beyond all inverted views, there is neither ignorance nor extinction of ignorance. There is nothing stopping us from automating something.

The seventh release of Sasaki Hiroaki's Yotsume-Music sees Hisashi Ito aka Hulot (Raum...musik, BELOW, FROGMAN/U.S.B.) welcomed to the fray, quite possible, given the EP's title, taking influences from Mr Hulot, the hero of Jacques Tati classic film 1953 'Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot'.
Like said hero, there's a kooky, loveable eccentricity to his two productions - he counts Herbert and Moritz von Oswald among his main influences - with Tom Ellis Remix and Sasaki Hiroaki Remix adding a remix, one on either each side.

Ekkehard Ehlers' seminal plays series was originally released on three 12inches (Staubgold) and two 7inches (Bottrop-Boy) in very limited runs. The entire series was previously only available as a CD compilation or digitally. Keplar finally presents it on double vinyl for the first time, featuring a new cover artwork.
Domestic ethnology: Ekkehard Ehlers plays.
‘Play’ is a word in English with many meanings attached. Each one sends you down a different cognitive pathway. When I think of ‘playing’, in the sense of a game, I think of an activity involving more than one person. When Ekkehard Ehlers plays, he is very much on his own. Or, at least, alone but at the same time keeping intimate company with the artistic innovators named in his titles. Robert Johnson. John Cassavetes. Albert Ayler. Cornelius Cardew. Hubert Fichte. Is he playing with them, against them, about them, for them, to them? This can never be known.
It is certainly a mistake to try to hear the ‘work’ of these originals in the sounds played by Ekkehard. They’re not cover versions. They’re hardly tributes in the conventional sense. Cassavetes and Fichte are not even musicians, although music played an important part in both their careers. Sure, there are little nods and flashes of recognition – tiny guitar licks among the minimal beats of ‘Robert Johnson 2’; rich bowed instruments in ‘Albert Ayler’, recalling the violin, cello and double bass arrangements on Ayler’s 1967 Live in Greenwich Village LP; the elongated organ lines of ‘Cornelius Cardew 1’ gesturing towards passages in Paragraph 1 of the British composer’s 1971 Marxist monolith, The Great Learning. Ekkehard is not so much playing these figures as allowing himself to be played by them.
Playing as an activity also suggests freedom. Maybe the only thing all five named persons have in common is that they were all quiet radicals. In music, literature and cinema, they all stepped, without self-promotion or fanfare, into unmapped territories. Once there they found it necessary to invent new languages in order to survive. Necessity was the mother of their inventiveness. They were also uncomfortable avant gardists. Lonely types, fighting their corners out on the margins, with little reward, often misunderstood, ridiculed or ignored.
All died unfairly young. Fichte a victim of HIV/AIDS, Cassavetes of cirrhosis of the liver. (‘Cassavetes 2’ sounds like a tender farewell played across the 59 year old alcoholic director’s death bed.) The deaths of Johnson, Ayler and Cardew have never been satisfactorily explained, and remain shrouded in myths and conspiracy theories. The pioneering expeditions of all five began in that spirit of playful freedom, but inexorably drew them towards the heart of darkness.
So these ‘plays’ are micro-dramas, sonic soliloquies, monolog-ins to the private accounts of various geniuses in Ekkehard’s ‘follow’ list. Hacked sensibilities. Artistic manifestos boiled down and distilled, skinned and dried in the digital smokehouse. (Ekkehard Ehlers Flays.) Each of these plays was originally floated out into the world alone on its own disc. The collected works play well as a team – a tranquil, introspective experience where each artist has his own identifiably unique sound character. As an album, Plays is a ‘Plattenragout’ – a ‘record stew’ – which was the title of Hubert Fichte’s LP review column in the leftist culture magazine konkret in the 1960s. The novelist’s work investigating the cultures of South America and the Caribbean islands has been called ‘domestic ethnology’. The writer himself referred to his ‘ethnopoesie’. Ekkehard Ehlers’s intuitive electronic portraits are a form of domestic ethnology in themselves. Invoking another of Ekkehard’s musical aliases, they are portraits of cultural ‘autopoiesies’ – creators whose works were strong enough to have their own self-regenerating life force. (by Rob Young)
All tracks written and produced by Ekkehard Ehlers.

The sun, kissing the forehead through half-closed blinds; the night, coming uninvited through a windowpane like a damp, sticky shroud. Light and darkness, solid foundations and elusive glimpses of parallel realities. Armies of digital insects - taken aback by warmth of one brave heart, 90s chillout rooms updated for todays vast and desolated space full of fragile souls desperate in their look for any kind of communion; “artificial intelligence” after three decades of wandering, trying to finally find a helping hand, solace and peace. Shimmer and shine. Welcome to “Pristine”, a new recording from the mind of Jacek Sienkiewicz.
For the past years Jacek has been escaping his image of relentless producer and performer of driving, multi-layered club music. His most recent works include deep ambient records, abstract electro-acoustic experiments, and super smart, stripped-down yet incredibly complex contemporary electronica. The last few records, mostly on his own label Recognition include albums with Max Loderbauer and Atom™, reinterpretations of works by Bogdan Mazurek of the legendary Polish Radio Experimental Studio, scores for radio plays and last year’s massively overlooked “Krasz”, music for theatrical performance of Ballard’s/Cronenberg’s “Crash”.
“Pristine”, a labour of love, is at times abstract and atonal, at times breathtakingly beautiful and tender.
8 tracks written and performed in Jacek’s unmistakable, singular style, and covering many grounds - abstract, electronic forms, neo-classical wonders, super tight compositions and freeform, jazz-like improvisations and stripped-down rhythms. Different moods, machine-translated and reverseengineered in a variety of recording locations, make up this exceptional record.
Shimmer and shine, immerse and enjoy.

From his beginnings as F.U.S.E. on Warp, Richie Hawtin has come a long way in the minimal techno game. The Plastikman project now offers up "EX (Performed live at the Guggenheim, NYC)" on Mute. A hugely welcome return, this is his first album under this pseudonym since 2003's seminal 'Closer'. EX was recorded live at the Guggenheim, NYC sometime last year and is a modern update on the hypnotic, slowed-down acid trax that he was a pioneer of way back in 93'. Throughout the seven track album we are treated to his trademark brand of twisted squelchy 303 acid lines, but with a modern backdrop of psychedelic synth lines of epic proportions. There are echos of classic Plastik in the 'Spastik'-like ball bearing snares of 'EXpire' to the more moody tracks like 'EXtend' and onto the sedate house of 'EXtrude' rendering this album the perfect soundtrack for introverted solo missions and late nights wondering around empty art galleries and basement nightclubs.

Pampa is ecstatic to welcome Berlin's Mike Denhert for his label debut. Known for an uncompromising, heads-down approach to moving dance floors, whether as a producer, a DJ, or in his live incarnation, Mike has provided 2 original tracks that are as distinct as they are relentless, possessed of a cerebral quality that belies their tough and stripped back aesthetic. How Close To Be' is a stuttering march of half heard and half imagined discourse, broken by bright synthesis which disappears before it can fully form, with the disorientating sonics held in check only by the rigidity of rhythm running throughout the tracks length. It's both surprising and linear. Dark and uplifting. Me Too' is also a creature of opposing ideologies. Warped moving Jazz plays with static Motorik patterns, automation curls around repetition, and textures change position throughout. Bright keys warp, and swing ebbs in and flows out, all to an eventually breathless but ultimately compelling sum of these parts.

Tikita welcomes Neel for a first release in collaboration with label mainstays natural/electronic.system.
The four tracks here cover deep, rolling, dubby tribal techno. The opener is sparse and dark, Gracida is more urgent and alien with watery droplets and wet melodies, then Sinistra is mind melting and loopy techno that takes you into the cosmos. Last of all, Percussiva has supple Jeff Mills style synths warping round each other as heavy drums pound below. It is brilliantly consuming techno from some of the best in the game.

If your new EP has already been getting dropped by top dogs like Upsammy, Batu, Call Super, Ben Ufo and Bruce, you know it's a winner. And that's exactly what Lurka's first release on his brand new Make Your On Meaning label is - four tracks of red hot and brilliantly weird minimal. 'Powers' is razor-sharp hi-hats cutting up a scintillatingly smooth and militant tech house groove. 'Re Speak' has jumbled percussion and more wonky rhythms while 'String' layers up toms, tin pot hits, clattering sound effects and an undulating liquid baseline into something super seductive. The closer 'Mystick Crystal' is the busiest of the lot with its densely layered sound fx and samples underpinned by minimal funk.

It seems as if 15 years have quickly flown by since we first opened our doors at the base of the famous Oberbaumbrücke joining Berlin's Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain districts. With countless long nights into majestic mornings and open airs in our beloved city to showcases spanning the globe, Watergate has grown to include a booking agency and a record label pushing the sounds of our mainstay artists and some of the most revered acts in the scene. To celebrate our journey over the last decade and a half we have put together a special anniversary release of 25 new, exclusive and formerly unreleased tracks to be released as a 2x CD set with our traditional Watergate artwork as well as a special collector's edition box set as a 5x vinyl, 2x CD package including a commemorative art print, two free entries to the club itself and the very special photo book 'Sound Travels' by Linus Dessecker which features photos and interviews of artists that played at Watergate when they arrived or left Berlin, all wrapped up in a sleek minimalistic package entitled 'WATERGATE XV'.
Encompassing music from club residents like Matthias Meyer, Jimi Jules, Marco Resmann, La Fleur, Tiefschwarz, Floyd Lavine, Lee Jones, Adana Twins, Sebo K, Hyenah and Cinthie and new comers Gorje Hewek & Izhevski, Gumz and Ryan Davis to friends and cohorts who have close ties to the club such as Butch, Henrik Schwarz, Ellen Allien, Alex Niggemann, Catz n' Dogz, Steve Bug, Osunlade, Solomun, Rodriguez Jr., Oliver Koletzki, Anja Schneider, Mathias Kaden and Kollektiv Turmstrasse, WATERGATE XV comprises of a plethora of sounds you have come to anticipate from our home along the Spree. From deep and euphoric cuts to lush organics tracks to heavier, peak time compositions, this compilation finds a moment that encapsulates every aspect of the sounds of Watergate.
We think this body of music perfectly captures our essence, whether it's under our famous LED's, on the waterfloor watching the sun rise or at any of our showcases and open airs the world over. We hope it can spark a memory in your mind to a moment we shared over the last 15 years. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to share these moments and music and here is to many more years together on the dance floor with you.
