Ricardo Donoso completes his latest trance mission for Digitalis with 'One Verse Sharpens Another'. Four tracks of serpentine arpeggios, rolling bass pulses and stealthy, soaring synth chords simulate cybersex in anti-G, from the X-Files atmospheres and alien seduction of 'The Redeemer', to the piloerect triggers and tense pizzicato strings of 'Open Drawer, Full Of Masks' on the A-side and over to the sublime, supple bass roll and gentle ambient caress of 'Child Primitive' or the mindweaving Belgian trance bliss of 'Master Game (Shape To Come)' astral planing across the B-side. There's a purity of intent and execution at play here which safely places 'One Verse Sharpens Another' beyond irony, acting just like the original sound as an escape pod for spirits looking to break orbit.

On the A side,  the Italian rising star Tony Dee (Kling Klong) surprises us again with 'Open your mind',  an absolutely massive tech house bomb. Meanwhile, the two label heads Oscar Barila & Sergio Parrado delight us with the groovy and funky rythms of 'Trip to rio'.
 
On the B side we meet 'Press' by the Chilean man of the moment, Aldo Cadiz (Desolat). The voices and percussions are in a constant evolution and rise until concluding in a brillantly delirious groove. And last but not least, we have 'Static' by Arnaud Le Texier (Cocoon). The French Detroit techno master never disappoints and amazes us with another timeless pearl. Woof Woof!!!

Daniel Steinberg aka Harry Axt has always shied away from press attention, instead preferring to craft his music shrouded from ego and hype. His productions are in favour with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Claude Vonstroke and Richie Hawtin and he is very much an unsung hero of the scene.
As Berlin's underground throbbed with minimal beats and stripped down house, Steinberg seemed to reach into the concreted shadows and caverns and emerge with something shimmering with real heart and feeling. Dicing Brazilian samples with killer beats and laying on the glitch to heavy effect
A veritable chameleon of Berlin's musical landscape since he first started producing his colourful vision of house and techno back in 1993, a time when Berlin's sound was stripped back and very distinctive, Steinberg was already thriving outside this box, experimenting with exotic world samples and having fun fusing elements together to make a cohesive whole that was always greater than the sum of its parts.
And again he leaves no doubt that he can rock the house with his distinctive style whatsorever ! The title is to be taken as an ironic statement as it is hard to categorise his output...and then again, who needs categories anyways!

Melancholic and spellbounding sounds as always. Come's with a tribalish remix from the analogue techno act Skudge. Recondite's work stands on its own, feeling strangely divorced both from his previous output and especially from over two decades worth of acid house history. The A12 motorway was wrapped in complete darkness. The lights of the windmills were blinking in the rhythm of the rotor blades passing by. They appeared just before sunrise. No one had ever seen this kind of creature ever before: red flashing, and bright shining alien butterflies attracted by the windmills.

The second vinyl sampler showcasing some of the highlights from Sect's recent compilation It's All For You sees Croatia's Jolka and Manchester's Casual Violence share the billing on this fantastic 10", pairing two huge tracks that feel like two sides of the same coin. Jolka's "Life Is Changing" is the more overtly bright of the two, utilising a jagged arpeggio and bright stabs which provide an intensly hypnotic backdrop to the track's monolithic beats. On the flipside, Casual Violence's "Acceptance Of The Fact At Hand" operates on a slightly more subtle level - its sweeping strings and soothing melody deceive you into thinking the track is lighter than it is, but the thundering kicks and concise percussion tell a different story, creating what is an organic, cavernous composition filled with rich textural nuance.
