From 1993 to 2002, French recording artist, Silvain Vanot released five albums on Virgin Disques and was blessed with critical praise and a faithful following. Singing in French, yet influenced by Americana, British pop and Caribbean rhythms, collaborating with Jim O'Rourke, Marc Ribot and Tanya Donelly, recording in Nashville and New York, opening for Sonic Youth, Silvain never was your typical 'chanteur'. Together Megaphone's Stephane Bismuth and Silvain gathered in Bethesda (Wales) an unorthodox assemblage of talents: Canterbury legend John Greaves (Henry Cow) on bass and keyboards, special guest BJ Cole on Pedal Steel Guitar, Iain Templeton of Shack fame on drums, fellow colleague Renaud Gabriel
Pion (John Cale, Hector Zazou...) on bass clarinet and flute, engineer Steve Powell (The Stairs, Michael Head & The Strands, Ella Guru...) behind the desk and, of course, Silvain himself on guitars, harp and a few other things. In one week they recorded eleven songs of lost love and wit, surrounded by snowy mountains and frozen lakes, sharing mutual tastes for silly jokes, improvisation and absinthe (though not necessarily in that order).
From the opening notes of O^ Mon Tour, a Country waltz with a discreet Southern Soul flavour to the soft eastern Psychedelia of Les Fleurs, via Nature Boy (e´trange garc¸on) - a French sailor take on Eden Ahbez's classic, Silvain takes you on the most unexpected voyage to BETHESDA, a place which in Hebrew means 'House of Grace'.

This Collection Contains Many Of The Hit Songs Williams Had In 1949 After 'lovesick Blues', Such As 'wedding Bells', 'mind Your Own Business', 'you're Gonna Change (or I'm Gonna Leave)' And 'my Bucket's Got A Hole In It'. Hank Went On To Become Country Music's Top Artist, 1950 Bringing Three Number 1s In 'moanin' The Blues', 'long Gone Lonesome Blues' And 'why Don't You Love Me'. It Seems Astonishing Today That The Writer Of Some Of Country Music's Best-loved And Most Enduring Songs, Hank Williams, Died After A Recording Career Lasting Less Than Six Years.

Roo has described his new album Quiet Man as having a general theme of encouragement'. From the more introspective and personal 'A Year In A Garden' and aforementioned 'A Message to Myself' which are about personal growth to 'Ophelia', a song as staggeringly beautiful as its name with a heart-warming message of encouragement to a loved one ( Take heart my love as when I see you I see hope'), and 'My Sweet Refuge' which wraps a loved one in a blanket of appreciation and love. At the more robust spectrum of the album with its rousing horn section is 'Warrior' which is lyrically a spirited show of confidence from one friend to another, whilst on the gentler end of the record comes the tender romanticism of 'Quiet Man', picked as the album's title track as the song emerged from what Roo describes as a place of stillness, peace and contentment'. Words that summarise the album as a whole. Quiet Man was written by Roo Panes and recorded in Deep Litter Studios at Start Point, Devon and produced by Chris Bond, mixed by Boe Weaver and mastered by Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering. It is released on CD, vinyl and digitally on 15 June via CRC Records.
Panes's three EPs and two previous albums have been streamed 160M+ times, and his videos have received 13M+ additional streams. He's received radio support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2, and BBC 6 Music. Panes will be playing his first US dates later this month. Ryan Martin's debut, Gimme Some Light, is the sound of catharsis and renewal, regret and reinvention. Originally from Los Gatos, California, Martin moved to New York City in 2009, built a band and an audience, and self-released his outstanding, ambitious album, For All The Beautiful Losers. After touring the United States, playing hundreds of shows, and becoming a father, Martin felt he was ready to make arecord that reflected a new sense of energy, hope, and purpose.

With Father, her sixth album, American Brisa Roché delivers her most personal and accomplished album to date. A gem of minimalist folk, haunted by the unique voice of the singer and produced by the grand John Parish- who directed among others the magic To Bring You my Love of PJ Harvey, a record with which Father shares common points: a twilight ambiance, fantomatic, something of Gothic Americana, a disquiet climate underlined by mythic Jean Babtiste Mondino's cover photos.

In this album, written half in Paris where the singer lives and half in the small town in Northern California where she grew up, the timbre of Brisa Roché reveals itself more bewitching than ever. She inscribes herself in the line of great folk singers of the 60's such as Karen Dalton or Vashti Bunyan and artists today like Alela Diane, shaman-singers, daughters of water and fire, capable of reviving the dead and reminding us of family operas, passion and the passing of seasons.

As its title indicates, Father is an out-of-the-ordinary project. In it Brisa Roché sings the immense, impossible quasi-incestuous love she lived, as a child and teen in Northern California, for her father (who died when she was 16), a dealer who recited poetry and lived at a hundred miles per hour, a charismatic and sulphurous adventurer, a man of endless conquests.

Far from being too personal or too centered around the artist's own story, these songs reveal themselves to be universal, exploring all facets of love: longing, fascination, sadness, seduction, the desire to save the beloved. Songs everyone can see themselves in. And in them Brisa plays all roles: the tearful child seeking to hold her wildfire of a father back from death (the poignant Trying to control and Carnation), the role of a mother/wife (the marvelous Patience), or even the role of the unsettling dealers surrounding her pater (Holy Badness and its powerful refrain like an impious canticle).

Each sketch takes us further, into cabins lost in the forest (48) or onto backseats of cars parked in front of liquor stores, as Brisa Roché proves herself an accomplished songwriter, capable of the most beautiful texts, stories magnified by the work of John Parish. We rediscover the spare, pure production that is the signature style of the English musician: folk chords rough as old pieces of wood, strident electric guitar riffs (Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs lent a strong hand), a few epic bass drum hits... Midnight full of Nature's rustling, where rises the lustral voice of the Inconsolable.

If Dean Moriarty, the hero of On the Road, by Kerouac, had had a daughter, SHE would have recorded this album. Curled in the back of the Buick, criss-crossing America she would have scribbled these lyrics while watching the tanned neck of her badass' father. In the career of every artist, there's a piece of work that brings us into the depths of his/her heart, into its internal womb, where is crafted the need for expression, the very desire to sing. Cat Stevens Grew From Being A Teen Idol Of The 60s Into One Of The Most Influential Singer-songwriters Of All Time. In Addition To His Vast Musical Achievements, His Lifelong Spiritual Quest Has Added Intrigue And Depth To A Ground-breaking Career.

Cat, Born Steven Demetre Georgiou, Achieved Early Success In The Mid-60s With "i Love My Dog" And "matthew And Son". He Is A Prolific Songwriter Writing Songs Such As "wild World" And "lady D'arbanville" And "the First Cut Is The Deepest" The Latter, In Particular, Would Go On To Become An International Hit On Multiple Occasions For A Variety Of Artists. Also Included Is Cat Stevens' Version Of "morning Has Broken" A Popular And Well Known Christian Hymn Which Became One His Biggest Hits.

The Collected Collection By Cat Stevens Is A 2lp Gatefold Album, Largely Chronological Through Stevens' Career, Ranging From His Hits "matthew & Son" To "midday (avoid City After Dark)," Credited To The Singer's Latter-day Yusuf Islam Identity. Stevens Remains One Of The Few Early 70s Singer-songwriters Specialized In Folk And Pop-songs, Whose Oeuvre Continues To Attract New Listeners With Every Passing Generation. This Collected Album Will Only Add To Their Numbers.

Günter Schickert, four decades of multi-instrumental cosmic explorations, under Berlin's sky, above genres, and compromises.

It was memorable the time when I firstly listened to his debut LP of 1974, the monumental Samtvogel. It overwhelmed me with layers of echoing guitars roaring into space, causing a powerful release of dopamine spreading through my skin, in the way an Interstellar Overdrive', or a Richard D James Album would do. It was a proof of the divine to discover Günter Schickert, it is a profound honour today to present on Marmo his seventh album to date, Labyrinth, the first to be released on vinyl format since 1983`s Kinder In Der Wildnis.

Schickert's Samtvogel, self-published first, then licensed to Brain, equaled the imaginative leap and sonic power of the early Pink Floyd, Manuel Gottsching's Inventions For Electric Guitar or A.R. & Machines's Die Grüne Reise. What followed, from his second LP Überfällig on Sky Records to his collaborations with Klaus Schulze, Jochen Arbeit and Schneider TM, even if little acclaimed, spans a large spectrum of music styles, always through a distinctive and personal aesthetic, that is deeply linked to the one he firstly crafted back in '74, when Schickert pioneered the use of echo effects applied to guitar playing.

And now Labyrinth, a record that stands for versatility, where genres do not matter, soundscapes or life situations take over, song-writing emotions pop out, handing out a spectrum of surprises to the listener. You may find yourself flying low along steep cliffs and with a blink of eye you are thrown into a Middle Eastern scenery.

The album is divided into two parts, two different production bulks and periods of Günther Schickert's life. Side A features a selection of tracks recorded in 1996, appearing on the 2012 album HaHeHiHo, released via Pittsburgh based VCO Recordings, on a limited press of 100 units, tape format only. I felt that the visionary and emotional richness of these pieces deserved the vinyl format and a chance to reach to a wider audience.

The Raga-inspired Morning' opens Labyrinth with exotic charm and bitter-sweet nostalgia. Sieben' kicks off with the same guitar scales of the previous theme, before the motorised progressions of a Korg MS-20 synth surprisingly storm in, carrying along an intersecting multitude of filters and sharp guitar effects, flowing into an epic, paradisiac ending. Ninja Schwert' remains on astral dimensions, it is a struggle of cosmic forces, where the steady ride of a pounding beat gets embraced by different guitar layers and analogue electronic filtering. The side closes up with HaHeHiHo', a slow ballad featuring Mr. Schickert on vocals, guitar, bass guitar and drum machine - an example of simple, stripped down yet gifted songwriting that is capable to reach the heart of the listener.

Side B contains material produced between 2007 and today. The intricate, bewildering Tsunami' shows the multi-instrumental and recording abilities of Günter Schickert: a field-recorded storm with mesmerising powers, a peculiar progressive approach to guitar playing. Mysterious sinister spirits and sounds are emerging and the feeling of being lost in a pleasant trance arises. In contrast, Oase' muffles the intensity and jumps into a completely different soundscape, where in liaison with the sounds of a rolling drum tom and a desert-like trumpet, the microphone carefully captures the found sound tones of everyday-life objects and actions. Like HaHeHiHo on side A, Checking' represents the vocal gem of the B side, in a raw and direct way of songwriting like if Syd Barrett was his invisible helper. Palaver' (which means unnecessarily talk' in German) assembles different vocal recordings of Schickert into a bizarre free-style conversation through a mysterious language, where he attempts to emulate illiterate children conversating. The final track, Morning (Slide)', reprises the opening theme, this time solely performed through the caressing dilated sounds of Günter's slide guitar.

On his fourth album, Clic, Franco Battiato moves further out - into realms of pure and elemental approaches to sound - to create a seminal work that flows naturally from one musical form to the next. Every second ripples with orbital chords, kosmische textures and schizophrenic string quartets, yet somehow manages the same dramatic pacing and variety as his avant-rock albums Fetus and Pollution.Originally released in 1974 on Bla Bla, Clic features Battiato on VCS3 synthesizer and piano, along with trusted collaborators Gianni Mocchetti on guitar and Gianfranco D'Adda on percussion. While only "No U Turn" bears the maestro's voice, these seven tracks contain some of his boldest melodies, an underlying thread that runs through the choral arrangements and meditative compositions.Clic's dedication to Karlheinz Stockhausen comes into focus on the final piece, "Ethika Fon Ethica" - a rapidfire journey into Italian shortwave radio, interrupted by fleeting fragments of folk music from around the world (sampled from Henry Cowell's celebrated Folkways compilations from the 1950s). It's the perfect ending to Battiato's beautiful and expansive tour of the cosmos, signaling the uncompromising experimentalism that would dominate much of the composer's mid-1970s oeuvre.

In Early September 1969, Tim Buckley Played Four Sets Over Two Days At La Club The Troubadour, Along With A Rehearsal Set, All Of Which Were Recorded. These Shows Featured Buckley At His Improvisational Best, Each Performance Of Every Song Being Different From Other Performances Of The Same Song.
On These Recordings, Buckley Was Accompanied By His Guitarist Lee Underwood And Congas Player Carter C.c.Collins, Along With John Balkin On Bass And Frank Zappa/captain Beefheart Drummer Art Tripp.
These Recordings Have Been Issued Across Three Cd Releases In 1994 And 2017, But This 6 Lp Box Set Is The First Time That They Have Been Gathered Together In One Release. Features Extensive And Explanatory Annotation By Compiler Pat Thomas, Along With Photos And Ephemera.

This is the first ever release of these four Tim Buckley demos, mastered from the original tape by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch. They are believed to have been recorded in 1966, after the Orange County demos of November 1965, but before the recording of debut album Tim Buckley' in August 1966.
- The annotation on the inner sleeve has been written by LA-based Buckley expert Pat Thomas. He has interviewed Larry Beckett, Buckley's school-friend, and co-writer of many of his early songs, including three of these.Beckett identifies the lead guitarist as Brian Hartzler (rather than subsequent mainstay Lee Underwood), the bass player as Jim Fielder (later of Buffalo Springfield, The Mothers, and Blood Sweat & Tears), and the drummer as possibly himself.
- Three of the four songs ( It Happens Every Time', I Can't See You' and Grief In My Soul') on this EP were re-recorded for the debut album with a different set of musicians - this release affords the Buckley fan the opportunity to hear the songs before Buckley signed to the Elektra label and the professionals got hold of them.

With her jazz-inspired songwriting and distinctive smoky voice, acclaimed Canadian singer Jill Barber creates the type of music that harks back to an earlier era. A native of Toronto, she initially began her career in Halifax, where she released her 2002 debut, A Note to Follow So. From the start, Barber's range included a mix of jazz, Americana, and folk-inspired pop, not unlike her older brother, roots pop songwriter Matthew Barber. She continued to develop this mix over the course of her next two releases, 2004's Oh Heart EP and 2006's For All Time. A couple of years later, she relocated back to Toronto, where she and producer Les Cooper began developing a new approach that relied heavily on the lush, orchestrated style of old jazz standards and torch songs.
