Das fing mit Superpunk Mitte der 90er vollkommen ambitionslos an. Plan war es, eine Band zu gründen, um auf Partys Kracher aus den Sixties zu spielen. Leider scheiterte die Band bereits an relativ simplen Garage-Rock-Klassikern wie "I need you" von den Kinks. Und wer hätte gedacht, dass "Friday on my mind" derart viele Akkorde hat? Das kann sich doch nun wirklich kein Mensch merken. Da erschien es erheblich einfacher, sich eigene Songs auszudenken, konnten andere schließlich auch. Aber erst mal musste ein Name her. Zur Auswahl standen "Fifi", "Schnellbus", "Hamburg Spinners", "Superminister Riesenhuber" und "Superpunk". Mit einfacher Mehrheit und wie immer ohne viel nachzudenken, entschied man sich für letzteres Mit den ersten eigenen Songs wurden dann richtige Konzerte gespielt, die zum Teil gut ankamen. Bei einem dieser Auftritte war auch Thies. Dem gefiel, dass die Band, jetzt aus dem Stegreif memoriert, "wie eine total zerkratzte Ray-Charles-Platte auf falscher Geschwindigkeit" klang. So gut gefiel das dem Thies, dass er fortan als Keyboarder dabei war. Und das ist auch wirklich eine treffende Beschreibung für den frühen Superpunk-Sound. So, jetzt aber: Es wurden fleißig eigene Songs gemacht und als genügend da waren, dachte sich die Band: "Die könnten wir eigentlich mal aufnehmen." Auf der Straße, irgendwo zwischen "Eis-Gerd" und "Pudel" trafen sie Bernd Begemann, der sagte: "Ich habe einen 4-Spur-Kassettenrekorder, ich nehme euch auf!". "Toll, danke, Bernd!" Und so brachte Bernd seinen Kassettenrekorder, mehrere Kassetten (die teuren, Chrome II), Mikrophone und eine seltsame Apparatur (ein Stimmgerät) mit in den Übungsraum im Bunker bei der Apostelkirche und nahm mit einer Engelsgeduld das Album auf. Auf der Straße, irgendwo zwischen "Heinz Karmer"s" und "Komet" traf die Band dann Bernd Kroschewski, der sagte: "Ich habe ein Label, ich bring euer Album raus!" "Toll, danke, Bernd", hieß es erneut. Und so erschien ziemlich genau vor 25 Jahren "A bisserl was geht immer" auf Fidel Bastro. Da waren, muss man zugeben, etliche Hits drauf: "Matula, hau mich raus", "Ich kann nicht nein sagen", "Das ist heute nicht Dein Tag", "Die Axt im Walde". Aus der ambitionslosen, verhinderten Partyband wurde dann doch noch eine (beinahe) richtige Band, mit Platte und Label und dem ganzen Schnick Schnack. Sogar auf Tour sind Superpunk mit dem Album gegangen, das war was, zwischen Hölle (null Zahlende in Kassel) und Himmel (ausverkaufter Pudel, Rekordgage von 300 Mark + gekühlte Freigetränke). Falls ihr noch nie "A bisserl was geht immer" gehört habt, stellt euch eine Mischung aus 39 Clocks, Cockney Rejects und dem Ramsey Lewis Trio vor. Combining electronic frames, reverberated guitars, keyboards and tight drum machines, "20 YEARS" unfolds in spectral explosions and dark but colorful tensions. The «cave» was the place for the 3 members of SURE : a fantasizeddancefloor where Post-Punk’s grim could seamlessly mix with mainstream pop, and where hardcore fans could dance on a catchy beat. But that frame was too precise to stand the test of time. Shades and balance changed the cave’s space, as the tracks echoed in it’s damp vaults. What if the cave wasn’t just a den of iniquity, but a real shelter ? The choice of words can also reveal a different meaning than what you had in mind. The words of SURE thought they were talking about a present absurdity, while their mind was relentlessly heading towards a catastrophic future awaiting with open arms. Im Sommer 2023 waren Surreal Fatal dann bei Hauke Albrecht im Studio Altona und bei Finna und Saskia Lavaux im Tonstudio Waltraud und haben ihr Debutalbum FUGE aufgenommen. Das britische Alternative Metal-Quartett SVALBARD meldet sich mit seinem neuen Album "The Weight Of The Mask" zurück, dem Nachfolger des von der Kritik hochgelobten "When I Die, Will I Get Better?", das sowohl bei Kerrang als auch bei Metal Hammer in die Top 10 der Alben des Jahres 2020 aufgenommen wurde.
Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2011 haben SVALBARD die Dynamik eines fahrenden Güterzuges erreicht - sie haben drei Alben veröffentlicht und dabei ihre vielfältigen musikalischen Einflüsse weiter verfeinert: Black Metal, Hardcore und Post-Metal, Anleihen aus Videospiel-Soundtracks, sogar Grindcore und Dream Pop, alles eingebettet in einen verzerrten und doch dynamischen Sound. Celebrating 55 years in the music business! Swami John Reis is back with his second LP in eight months. Time To Let You Down is a savage blast of junk shoppe punk that kicks you in the ding ding. This eleven track LP is chock full of fist pumpers, head bumpers, stinky dumpers, meaty thumpers and toe stumpers. The tempos are often breakneck and the dense arrangements tumble like bricks into hot cheese. The undeniable sonic girth barges at will into lathered ear tubes allowing these barbaric anthems to echo in hollow domes. Feel the whip crack break skin on the acne scarred backs of our cultural oppressors. The sound is tough. The songs are a bitch. Incite your expectations with the single “Fed To The Dogs” or the title track. Salty leather and wobbly chain link fences can’t contain its rebel intent. These recordings took place Oct. 2024 and features Swami John Reis on guitar and vocals with contributions from Jason Sinclair (Hot Snakes), Joey Guevara (Swami and the Bed Of Nails), Jacob Turnbloom (Mrs. Magician) and Glen Galloway (Truman’s Water). The record was produced by John Reis, engineered and mixed by Ben Moore and mastered by Dave Gardner. Time To Let You Down is pressed on virgin, Egyptian pellets and available in limited, colorful vinyl that have been hand-swirled. You’ll not only clearly hear the difference, you will see it as well.

LP is limited to 1000 copies, black vinyl. Swansea Sound started in the middle of lockdown. They realised that fast, loud, joyous, angry indie-pop punk was the answer to being stuck indoors. Who needs introspection? Hue Williams is reunited with Pooh Sticks partner Amelia Fletcher (ex- Talulah Gosh, Heavenly). Rob Pursey (also ex-Heavenly) and Ian Button (Wreckless Eric’s live collaborator) provide the noise. Swansea Sound are the fast, acerbic and joyous past, present and future of indie. Four of the tracks were released as singles, all of them now impossible to obtain. ‘Corporate Indie Band’ was a limited edition cassette, ‘I Sold My Soul on eBay’ was a one-off lathe cut that got auctioned on eBay (with a £400 winning bid), ‘Indies of the World’ was a 7” inch single that briefly hit the UK physical charts, but immediately sold out and plummeted back out again. And then there was ‘Swansea Sound’: a requiem for a lost radio station; an anti-corporate lament - another limited edition cassette single. First track Rock N Roll Void gives a three minute revision session, just in case you’ve forgotten about The Ramones, The Kinks, The Buzzcocks and the brief explosion of indie noise pollution of 1986. Some of the songs are reflexive – ‘Swansea Sound’ and ‘The Pooh Sticks’. (Who else was going to write a tribute to The Pooh Sticks?) Others are searching for hope in the digital desert – ‘Let It Happen’, ‘I’m OK When You’re Around’, ‘Pasadena’, ‘Angry Girl’. ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi’ is pure pop throwaway fun. The others songs are dead catchy too, they just happen to express a sickness and a contempt for the state of things. ‘Corporate Indie Band’ is about a group who have mortgaged their creativity to a major label and sold their identities to an online marketing team of public schoolboys. Freedom of Speech takes a look at three contemporary ‘alternative’ music stars and considers how they’ve responded to BLM, the pandemic and the rise of right-wing populism. ‘Like self-serving arseholes’, is the unfortunate answer. (You won’t struggle to work out who the three ‘alternative’ stars are.) Swansea Sound took their name from a well-loved local radio station when it was given a corporate makeover in 2020. They even used the radio station’s abandoned logo. Like the indiepunk pop songs, something modern acidic and angry has taken up residence in a familiar, borrowed frame. You can throw yourself around to Swansea Sound like it’s 1986, but if you catch the lyrics you’ll remember you’re in 2021. (Sorry about that.) The Rum Puncheon, a notorious pub in Swansea, closed down decades ago.

Kaum eine Band hat in den letzten Jahren so einen brutalen Aufstieg hingelegt, wie Swiss & Die Andern. Was 2014 in einem kleinen Punkschuppen vor 70 Leuten begann, feiert nun 10 jähriges Jubiläum.
Nachdem sie im letzten Jahr mit ihrem Album "Erstmal zu Penny" die #1 in den deutschen Albumcharts gewinnen konnten, legen sie zu ihrem Geburtstag mit einem Best of Album nach, das seinesgleichen sucht.

Limitiert auf 300 Exemplare. THE WORLD IS YOURS ist die Debüt-EP der Hardcoreband SYFF. Als Tape war diese EP innerhalb von kurzer Zeit ausverkauft und wahrscheinlich wird es mit dieser 7" in kleiner Auflage genauso gehen. Die Band hat die Songs der EP komplett in Eigenregie produziert, aufgenommen, gemixt und gemastert. Hört selbst, was dabei raus gekommen ist. Inhaltlich geht es auf The World Is Yours um die Themen Krieg, Gewalt, Terror, Weltschmerz, sowie das Gefühl der Ohnmacht gegenüber einer Welt, in der derjenige regiert, der die meisten Bomben hat. Das Cover ist eine bildliche Repräsentation dieser Ohnmacht. Die kanalisierte Wut darüber wird rastlos auf 5 Songs aufgeteilt, die insgesamt nur 8 Minuten dauern. Die dazugehörige Musik ist laut und der Gesang zeigt zwischen dem fortwährenden Geschrei portionierte Melodie- und Sprecheinlagen. Die Songs gehen nahtlos ineinander über und lassen den Hörer*innen keine Zeit durchzuatmen. Ein außergewöhnliches Debüt.

Symposium, the pop-punk band heralded as ‘the best live band in Britain’ by Melody Maker in the 90’s, release their first Best Of compilation: ‘Do You Remember How It Was?’ A compilation that gathers together their finest moments in one place and provides a fully rounded view of what made them so intoxicating in the first place. Symposium’s achievements in just six years of being a band read like a 90’s rock‘n’roll-call; supported by the likes of John Peel, Jo Whiley, and Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1, heralded by music mags such as Melody Maker, Kerrang! and NME, and performing on TV shows such as TFI Friday and Top of the Pops. During their appearance on Top of the Pops in 1997 performing ‘Fairweather Friend’ completely live, frontman Ross became the only singer in the show’s history to stage dive, and the band received only the third ever stage invasion from the audience after Nirvana and Oasis. This set contains the hit singles ‘Farewell To Twilight’, ‘Fairweather Friend’, ‘Drink The Sunshine’, and the previously unreleased track ‘Bleach’.

Ein Livealbum (nochmal) ist eine recht offensichtliche und doch für Talco passende Idee zum Jubiläum. Im Jahr 2022 hatten Talco beschlossen, ein Mischpult für die "Videogame"-Tour zu mieten. Die Möglichkeit, jedes Konzert mitzuschneiden, verlockte, und am Ende der Tournee gab es etwa 35 Sets, aus denen ein echtes Live-Album werden konnte. Und genau um "echt" geht es. Es durfte nichts gefälscht, neu aufgenommen oder überspielt werden, nichts bereinigt werden. Das moralische Diktat, live darzustellen, wer Talco ist, mit der Musik, Entschlossenheit, den Witzen, dem goliardischem Unsinn, der Herzlichkeit der Menschen, all das musste erhalten bleiben und daher "wahr" sein, nicht perfekt oder künstlich, sondern wahr. Ein echtes DIY-Projekt, an dem die gesamte Talco-Familie mitgewirkt hat: von Tontechnikern Matteo "Houdini" Piccolo - der alle Live-Auftritte der Tournee aufgenommen hat - und Edoardo "Dodi" Pellizzari (Overdrive Recording Studio), der das Album abgemischt hat, bis hin zu den Beiträgen der gesamten Band, die während einer anderthalbjährigen Europa-Tournee aufgenommen wurden. Talco in eigenen Worten: "Wir hätten nie gedacht, dass wir noch einmal ein Live-Album machen würden, aber vielleicht haben wir es nach weiteren 10 Jahren nötig. Viele Bands erreichen ein Ziel, und feiern es mit einer Best Of-Compilation, aber die Greatest Hits einer Live-Band kann nur ein Live-Album sein." Und hier sind nun die essentiellen Songs der bisherigen 20 Jahre-TALCO-Karriere, aufgenommen zwischen 2022 und 2024 in unterschiedlichen Städten, eine traumhafte Set-List vor den besten Fans der Welt. TALCO melden sich mit ihrem bisher wohl ambitioniertesten Werk zurück. "Freek" erscheint am zweiten Freitag des Jahres 2027! Eine kühne und unverblümte Reise durch mentale Käfige, ruhelose Gedanken und schwebende Träume. Das Album präsentiert TALCOs unverkennbare Punk-Ska-Energie mit einer schärferen, introspektiveren Note. Geschrieben von Tomaso De Mattia (Dema), Sänger und Frontmann von TALCO, setzt sich das Album mit den unsichtbaren Strukturen auseinander, die uns in einer von Image und Performance besessenen Welt prägen. If Talk Show’s exhilarating full-length debut, Effigy, feels more like a film than an album, that’s no coincidence. The band crafted the collection to soundtrack to a fictional nightclub. “One of the biggest influences on this record was the intro to the movie Blade, where this character’s being dragged through a meatpacking plant and into the vampire rave,” says frontman Harrison Swann. “There’s so much tension and anticipation and intimidation in that scene. We wanted to create the kind of music we’d play if we were performing in that club, to put ourselves into that scene and see how far we could push it.” With Effigy, Talk Show do more than just push their sound; they completely reinvent it. Pop-punk veterans Teenage Bottlerocket are primed to release their new LP Ready to Roll, the band's first full length for Pirates Press Records. "This time around, there was no big concept, no pressure. We just wrote songs that felt good to play," explains bassist Miguel Chen. "That freedom brought something fresh. It reminded us why we started doing this in the first place. The vibe is all about reconnecting with the joy of making music together. "The band returned to The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO, with Andrew Berlin behind the board & Jason Livermore overseeing the final master. "The Blasting Room is like home for us," says Miguel. "Working with Andrew and Jason is always a smooth ride-they know how to pull the best out of us." Fans got their first taste of what's to come via the lead single "She's the Shit." Ray Carlisle wrote the song for his wife Rachel, who he says "loves to give me a hard time-she rolls her eyes when I rock out in front of the mirror, makes fun of the music I love, and calls me an old man when I bring up movies she's never seen. And I totally love her for it." As for the song, Ray says, "It kicks the door open. It sets the tone for the whole record-fast, catchy, and not taking itself too seriously. Just the way we like it." covers of Eddie Cochrane’s “Somethin’ Else” and Vince Taylor’s “Brand New Cadillac,” power-pop punk originals like “Let’s Shake” and “Infected” helped the disc go gold.

* Stone Tape is a concept album inspired by “Stone Tape Theory”, theorized by Thomas Charles Lethbridge in 1961. The archaeologist, parapsychologist and explorer developed the idea that inanimate materials can absorb energy from living beings, and that this mental electrical energy, released during emotional or traumatic events, could somehow be “stored” in such materials and “reproduced” under certain conditions.
The six songs comprised in the album have been written, produced, arranged and played by Stephen Lawrie, founder of The Telescopes.

With the formidable Daniel Treacy at its core, Television Personalities remain one of new wave’s longest serving and seminal artists with a career spanning over three decades. From Richmond, Virginia arrives Tempter, a soundtrack for end times hurtling along to the speed of global rage and impending doom. Merging the very best parts of crossover metal and hardcore from the 80s Japan, Sweden and UK, Tempter bring a new voice to a legendary sound. It comes perhaps as no surprise then that the group comprises of veterans of the hardcore scene from bands such as Candy, Division of Mind, Nosebleed, Ekulu and more. Instant bulldozers Sacricide and Pestilence, with their punchy riffs and wild solos bookend the S/T EP, whilst Uniformed Madness and Night Terror run along with at times almost apocalyptic walls of acidic noise. The production provides a dense atmospheric swamp of rage, mixed by Fucked Up’s Jonah Falco, providing a fitting soundtrack for Valentina Lopez’s huge vocal that sounds like 1000s of witches chanting. La Lluvia, with its use of samples and layers of synths, dances around spoken word sections that read out a poem of the same name by Roberto Bolaño, one of Chile’s greatest literary writers. Bolaño’s work fits perfectly with a biting satirical punk mood that Lopez exudes with every breath. He often questioned the privilege of making art whilst the junta would torture people in basements. Hardcore, punk and metal often likes to think of itself as a political act more than music, whether in its DIY ethic or protest lyrics. However, perhaps we find it too easy to fall into its angry embrace and eat each other alive whilst the world outside continues to fall. This music makes hell on earth that little bit more bearable, however ultimately Bolaño, and Lopez, call on counterculture music to have meaning and political action.

Call me Terry! It’s been a hot minute since we last heard from Terry, what’s he been up to? Five years on from their last album, ‘I’m Terry’, the Australian post-punk quartet proudly present their new record, ‘Call Me Terry’, for release on April 14th 2023.
Terry is made up of pairs Amy Hill & Al Montfort, and Xanthe Waite & Zephyr Pavey who started playing together for the fun of it in 2016. Seven years, four albums and three EP’s later, Terry is ready to pick up the phone again. Over the past few years Terry have kept themselves busy - but not only with Terry things. On top of numerous releases with alternating side projects (Constant Mongrel, The UV Race, Primo!, Sleeper & Snake, Chateau, Rocky, the list goes on… ) members of Terry have moved interstate, undertaken studies, had children and started new fields of work.
Terry began sharing the demos for ‘Call Me Terry’ online with each other in 2020 - as we all did - before getting together in 2021 at their trusty rehearsal space to record the beds. Overdubs were completed at Terry’s homes over the following year. Lyrically, in true Terry fashion, the record wastes no time in scrutinising Australia’s corrupt, colonial history. They sing it loud and sprawl it across the jacket of this record, highlighting the greed, privilege and entitlement of white, wealthy “Australia” which they won’t stand a second for.
Musically, ‘Call Me Terry’ still has the classic Terry sound; the four vocals singing as one gang, sharp guitars and quirky, burbling synths, the rolling bass and drums, all amidst their clever, dancey pop songs. Since day dot it’s been hard to reference a band that really sounds like Terry, which is always amazing. Truly a sound of their own!
But the sugar on top here may just be some of their finest horn, string and piano performances to date - all of which never feel crowded, cluttered or over-involved. More just excellent, necessary melodies. Rest assured Al still gives his famed Fuzz Factory a workout - and throws his tremolo into the pedal chain. It goes off. Tremolo is the order of the day for Amy and Xanthe too who also embrace the wobble, whilst Zephyr keeps the pulse of their politico-pop anchored.

Der Einfachheitshalber und um es nicht zu vergessen, heißt ihre dritte VÖ dann auch "Vorwärts". THE COCKHEADS gehen eher sparsam mit ihren Akkorden um, ist ja auch nicht Kunst, sondern Punkrock. Ehrliche Mucke ohne Schnörkel, schnelle Beats und eingängige Melodien, drei Akkorde mit ,Doppel-Wumms". Sound im Stil der frühen Achtziger, als NDW noch Punkrock war. Ähnlich verhält es sich auch mit den Texten, einfach und eingängig. Kernaussage, zwei, drei Sätze drumrum, mehr is nicht und braucht's auch nicht. 14 Wörter reichen der Band für den Song ,DDR". Kernaussage:'grau und 20 Jahre hinterher', war ja 'ne Mangelwirtschaft, da gab es halt nicht so viel, auch nicht Wörter. Themen des Alltags mit der Sprache des Alltags. Ob Nazi-Stress, Liebe oder machtgeile Studie-Punker, die Thematik wird auf den Punkt gebracht und die Kernaussage so oft wiederholt bis der Letzte es versteht. Der Sound von THE COCKHEADS ist zwar schlicht, aber genau das macht ihn gefährlich, er setzt sich fest und lässt nicht mehr locker. Noch Stunden nach dem Konsum wippt man in seinem Takt. Gewarnt sei hier besonders vor dem Titeltrack, sein Genuss kann als Nebenwirkung einen Ohrwurm erzeugen! Gute Musik kann so einfach sein. 7 Stücke Minialbum, einseitig bespieltes, pinkes, 180gr Vinyl!

„Burned“, einem neuen Mix zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum des klassischen 1984er Albums „For Ever Grounded“ und einem speziellen Tribut- und
Gedenk-Event zu Ehren ihres gefallenen Frontmanns John Kezdy, der tragischerweise im Jahr 2023 verstarb.

Seit über 20 Jahren zeigt diese chinesische Punkband der Obrigkeit den Stinkefinger. Derkompromisslose Sound wurde schnell über das Reich der Mitte hinaus bekannt und erreichte Europa und die USA. Nach nur 2 Alben, 10jähriger Pause und Best Of-Compilation erscheint nun endlich das dritte Studioalbum und es wurde verdammt nochmal Zeit! Ein Highlight der Bandhistory war der Auftritt 2009 als Special Guests auf der Chinatour von Sham 69. Kein Zufall, denn The NONAME liefern besten 80er UK Punk mit blitzschnellen Beats und eingängigen Refrains. "Believe In Chaos" klingt wie ein Tribute an The Clash, aber es geht auch härter und heftiger. Urgesteine der alternativen Musikszene aus aller Welt unterstützen die Chinakracher mit ihren Impulsen und bringen neue Nuancen ein. "Waiting For The Day" entstand zusammen mit der antifaschistischen spanischen Punkband Non Servium , die schon ihr 25-jähriges Bestehen feiern konnte. Die seit 2003 existierende Street Hardcoreband Acidez aus Mexiko rütteln mit "Anti" auf gegen Rassismus und fordern kreativen Widerstand. Aus Amiland kommen Big D & Kids Table, gegründet 1995, die bei "Scream To The World" besten Bostoner Skapunk beisteuern. Sie liefern zurmusikalischen Faust in die Fresse einen Sprechgesang mit fast poetischem Text. Melodiöser gehts bei "Warrior Of Faith" mit der Pariser Punk und Powerpop-Band "The Choices" zur Sache. Hymnenartig verarbeiten die schwedischen Streetpunks Perkele aus Göteborg, 1993 ins Leben gerufen, bei "Go Down In History" ihren Oi! zum Kampf gegen Unterdrückung. Kein Titel könnte besser zu den Songtexten passen als "Fortress Besieged". Ein schon marodes Unrechtsregime wird solange belagert bis es zusammenbricht. Der Aufruf zum Aufstand ist ein Schrei nach Veränderung und Freiheit aber auch eine Feier der Lebensfreude in einem chaotischen und aufregenden Dasein. Wer dieses Album versäumt verpasst ein Stück Punkgeschichte.
