Yellow/Orange Cornetto vinyl. A top 5 label defining album for Bridge Nine, this title is a favorite of collectors and is currently in its 15th pressing. It's hard to believe this classic hardcore record is nearly 20 years old, having come out in August of 2006.

Soul Jazz Records’ new Secret Superstar Sounds brings together a wealth of incredibly catchy tunes from late-70s/early-80s British groups that you have probably never heard of! Powerpop mixed together a love of lyrical and melodically beautiful 60s pop and garage sounds, together with the energy and attitude of 70s punk. Almost completely out of kilter with the fashions of the day (punk, new wave and post-punk) these bands managed to fall between the musical cracks at almost every step of the way – leaving them practically unknown to all but a few.

Inspired by the D-I-Y messaging of bands like The Desperate Bicycles, Sniffing Glue fanzine and early UK punk labels like Stiff, Chiswick and Rough Trade, these bands chose mainly to go into a studio and make their own private press/D-I-Y records themselves – then try to work out everything else (promotion, marketing, etc) afterwards. As mainly outsiders to the mainstream music industry, and usually unable to make any inroads into it, save for sending their own record to John Peel, most of these bands fell at the first hurdle.

These records remain both beautifully crafted 3-minute musical gems, and long-lost micro-histories of an essentially hidden genre.
Featured bands here include The Squares, The Meanies, The Monitors, Plummet Airline, Tours, Gobblinz, Krypton Tunes and more. Most of these records were self-published D-I-Y releases made in very limited-editions and were often the only tracks ever released by these groups.

Die antifaschistische Bladerunner-Jeanne d'Arc in mittelalterlicher Rüstung auf dem Cover ist dabei mehr als eine Reminiszenz an revolutionäre Frauenfiguren in Geschichte und Kunst. Das neo-retrofuturistische Artwork der Wiener Fotografin Doris Himmelbauer ist die cineastische Visualisierung eines Albums, das Gewalt, Verletzbarkeit und die Sehnsucht nach einer besseren Welt verhandelt. Greatest Heads is the fourth album by the radical Basque- Berlinesque group Al Karpenter. A deconstruction of structured “rock” music, here Al Karpenter re-imagine “the band” to explore the intersection between Free music, afro-beat, the avant garde and gonzo rock.
If Theodore Adorno wrote “To Write Poetry after Auschwitz is Barbaric” in 1949, Al Karpenter attempts to answer the difficult question today; what kind of music can be done in the face of a genocide? Álvaro Matilla, Marta Sainz, Enrique Zaccagnini & Mattin’s response to the planet’s slipping into a vortex of hate is to create a music ecstatic, a music of protest bursting with multiple musical languages and glossaries, full of overlapping histories and thrilling tensions.
Greatest Heads posits a plurality of musics both in opposition and intertwined: Al Karpenter play rock instruments pulled apart in the studio in post-production. Distorted rhythm chunks bit-crushed and dissipated, segments of freedom oppressed by waves of sound invading from every direction. The interplay between the chief instrumentalists and renowned, storied sound artist Mattin creates something akin to ESP freedom-seekers Cro Magnon playing in Miles Davis’ early 70s groups, The Los Angeles Free Music Society tightening up into a clenched fist of plunderphonics and runaway percussion.
We Are All Karpenters opens Greatest Heads with the most straight-forward song refrain of the record accompanied by a band that soon crash into eruption, imagining Sun City Girls in full free rock mode.
The modulating synth sound soon sucks the band into its wake to create a spine-chilling climax of distorted sound, made fully orgasmic with mastering engineer Rashad Becker’s attention to detail. On Izugarrizko Buruak (Greatest Heads), Matilla intones in Basque over a mangled distorto-beat. A Brand New Astraphobia creates a black space for a heavily processed guitar to blow up before falling to earth at night, a gentle figure serenading the coming end.
On Side B, the band begins by being masticated by a brutal phaser, squelching and stretching the music into new territories. The overt message of Stop The Genocide! is besieged by violence before Worm City aggressively samples the ghosts of soul music, mixing in noise bursts, prepared piano and swiping, abstracted sound. Epic closer Perfect Love feels like a beat poetry performance on a burnt world, still grasping for community, for home, for some sort of human love. A Mad love, then; an angry love fuelled by solidarity and collaboration.
The band’s cascading layers of references and polyglottal musics attempt to create the perfect lover, alive with rage and disorientating ecstasy: Al Karpenter.

45 Jahre alt – und jetzt so frisch wie nie:

Am 27. Juni erscheint das selbstbetitelte Ideal-Debütalbum von 1980 in einer neu abgemischten Version. Für den „2025 Mix“ wurden die originalen Mehrspurbänder digitalisiert und von Moritz Enders (u.a. Kraftklub, Casper) und Annette Humpe neu abgemischt. Das Ergebnis klingt verblüffend direkt, greifbar und gegenwärtig – als wäre die Berliner Band gerade erst ins Studio gestiegen.

Der Clou: Für den neuen Mix kam ausschließlich Technik zum Einsatz, die bereits 1980 zur Verfügung stand. Der Sound ist also nicht einfach nur neu – sondern neu gedacht im Geist der alten Zeit. „Ideal (2025 Mix)“ ist nicht bloß ein nostalgischer Rückblick, sondern ein eindrucksvolles Update: Songs wie „Berlin“, „Blaue Augen“ oder „Hundsgemein“ wirken heute so kompromisslos, radikal und relevant wie eh und je.

Die 1997 gegründeten Hard Oi!/Streetpunker Non Servium aus Madrid präsentieren eine komplett remasterte Best-Of in Form der neuen Vinyl-Compilation "Street Songs Since 1997", veröffentlicht auf Loikaemiess Fettfleck Records. Die aktuelle Besetzung der Band besteht aus Sänger Carlos und Gitarrist Snoker plus Ivi Bass, Gordo Gitarre und Niño Drums, wobei Carlos und Snoker während der gesamten Bandkarriere und auf allen Alben die Kernmitglieder waren. Der Sound von Non Servium ist Oi! oder "Brutal Oi!" mit Einflüssen aus Punk, Street Punk und deutlich Hardcore Punk. Ihre schnellen Schlagzeugrhythmen und starken Bass- und Gitarrenlinien sind ein charakteristisches Merkmal. Ihre Texte sind meist politisch verortet, obwohl auch Songs über Punk-, Skinhead- und Hooligan-Kultur dabei sind. Sie sind neben Bands wie Kaos Urbano und Núcleo Terco die größten Spanisch-singenden Vertreter von Oi! mit einem explizit antifaschistischen/antirassischtischen Haltung. Die Band hat bisher sieben richtige Studioalben veröffentlicht, wobei ein leichter Stilunterschied zwischen dem Debütalbum und den nachfolgenden Alben festzustellen ist, die sich durch einen kraftvolleren, dem Hardcore näheren Sound auszeichnen. Vor vier Jahren wurde eine ,Greatest Hits" auf CD veröffentlicht, aber diese neue Zusammenstellung ist nur auf Vinyl erhältlich, hat eine andere Tracklist und alle Titel wurden neu gemastert. Es ist das Jahr 2000. Der Begriff „Kuschelrock“ muss neu bewertet werden. Nach dem Megaerfolg des Vorgängers „13“ soll ein neues Album her. die ärzte wollen es noch ein bisschen alberner. Also wird zum Aufwärmen mit „5, 6, 7, 8 – Bullenstaat“ erstmal eine Ultra-Deutschpunk-EP eingespielt. Die Entstehung des neuen Albumtitels ist zwar beschreib- aber nicht erklärbar. Und: Plüsch. Unter der flauschigen Hülle entpuppt sich „Runter mit den Spendierhosen, Unsichtbarer!“ als Füllhorn von Hits, die nahezu alle noch ein knappes Vierteljahrhundert später einen festen Platz im nicht gerade schmalbrüstigen Klassiker-Kanon der Besten Band der Welt innehaben und dabei dem Zeitgeist weit voraus eilen. Denn die ärzte sind – Überraschung! – vor allem bei einem Thema außerordentlich divers aufgestellt: Geschlechtsverkehr. Den gibt es in allen erdenklichen Spielarten, inklusive mehr oder weniger geläufiger Probleme, die den Spaß zwischen Männern, Frauen und allem dazwischen leider zu oft verkomplizieren. „Du nervst noch mehr als Yoko Ono“ ist nicht nur längst Alltagssprache sondern landet für das kurze, aber schmerzvolle Video sogar im Guinness-Buch der Rekorde. „Manchmal haben Frauen“ wächst sich ob des handfesten Themas fast zu einem mittleren Skandal aus, wird dann – dank des noch handfesteren Videos – zum Radiohit und zeigt letztendlich eine Option zur feministischen Selbstermächtigung auf. „Rock Rendezvous“ ist überaus F-Wort-intensiv und hemmungslos lustig. Aber auch sonst sind BelaFarinRod äußerst gut aufgelegt, reimen sich selbst für ihre Maßstäbe extensiv um Kopf und Kragen und sind außerdem noch total Rock.

Goed nieuws voor punkfans en nostalgische herrieschoppers: BLPRecords brengt de eerste twee LP's van Belgian Asociality opnieuw uit! De legendarische albums 'Belgian Asociality' (1989) met nummers als Boederie, Miep Miep en Keerbergen en 'Astamblief' (1991, met klassiekers als Bompa Punk, Jupiler Reggae en Stagedive zijn opnieuw verkrijgbaar op vinyl, allebei in een beperkte oplage van 500 exemplaren op gekleurd vinyl.

Gewapend met snedige teksten, genadeloze riffs en een onmiskenbaar Belgisch gevoel voor absurdisme, groeide Belgian Asociality uit tot een van de meest iconische en eigenzinnige punkbands van het land. Met hun unieke mix van punk, hardcore en maatschappijkritische humor schopte de meest asociale punkband van Belgë vanaf eind jaren '80 keihard tegen de schenen van de muziekscene. De groep onstond in 1988 in Mechelen en Keerbergen en is tot op heden een band met een stevige live-reputatie. Belgian Asociality is nog steeds zien op de Belgische concert - en festivalpodia.

First things first - you don’t need me to tell you about the significance of Australia in the history of punk. I mean, what am I, Jon Savage? Google it yourself, FFS. Instead, let’s just agree that the speedy, feral racket thrown together by the likes of The Saints, Radio Birdman and The Scientists in the mid-late ‘70s is AT LEAST as deliriously entertaining as anything concocted by their UK/US counterparts, sowing the seeds for seemingly endless garage-inflected noisemakers in the land down under. No one likes using words like ‘tradition’ or ‘heritage’ here - the punk rock clusterbomb is far too messy for any of that business - but also emerging from Australian rock’s primordial soup is the addictive sneer of Stiff Richards. Like their predecessors, the band are a gleefully wracked mess of full throttle energy and barrelling power chords, with songs like ‘Kids Out On The Grass’ and ‘Point of You’ proving at least the equal of ‘(I’m) Stranded’ or ‘Aloha Steve And Danno’. Nine tracks in less than 30 minutes, all winners and all determined to leave you flipping over couches and smashing your TV set. And let’s face it, you may as well; there’s nothing good on. It all builds towards frantic closer ‘Fill In The Blanks’, which rattles around your speakers like the UK Subs trying to play Ed Kuepper riffs at the centre of an earthquake, before grinding to a halt as a voice says, “That’s the one.” Does it sound self-satisfied? Hey, it’s got good reason to - this is the best no-frills garage rock party since Gino & The Goons’ ‘Do The Get Around’, and the only appropriate response is to declare yourself betrothed to Stiff Richards because you can’t imagine your life without ‘em. Don’t believe me? Sort out your ears and get ‘State Of Mind’ in ‘em. Rock’n’roll as it’s supposed to be played.

Straight outta Montreal, Canada, Spleen is a one supergroup featuring members of local royalties such as punk bands Béton Armé and Puffer and black metal acts Conifère and Vespéral.

Formed in 2022 and taking their name from Paris Spleen by Charles Baudelaire, they released their first cassette on Roachleg Records in 2023 delivering five post-punk cuts inspired by the colder aspect of french bands like Camera Silens, DEM and later-era Blitz.

Having added a new, sixth member on synthesizer, their second demo was released on Roachleg again just one month ago, taking on new influences from 60’s and 80’s psych garage rock and developing a unique sound not easily categorizable.

Not unlike the latest Duke of Oi! EP by Criminal, picture French skankin’ punk rockers from the 80s (I’m thinking Identité X) meeting somewhere cold with the California dreamers from the Paisley Underground (The Dream Syndicate, of course) and you’ll get the vibe.

And if you think this is odd for people playing also in Oi and BM groups just remember that Blitz first covered Lou Reed’s Vicious back in 1982 so you should not be surprised.

With everything just said we simply couldn’t back out of pressing both EPs on one tasty 12” vinyl compilation, one demo per side, with new sci-fi-influenced artwork by the band’s own Dan and Mathias.

You may not require any introduction to the members of ROACH SQUAD, or at least one or two of the band. Needless to say, Hugo Mudie (The Sainte Catherines), Frankie Stubbs (Leatherface), Graeme Philliskirk (Leatherface) have all graced the Paradise Gutters around the Punk Rock world for some time. Joining them is Alex Keane (The Murderburgers), along with another local Sunderland Lad, Sim Robson. As with many of the members previous works, a DIY approach to writing and recording the album was taken. The bulk of the recording took place at their own Rocket Studios in Sunderland, UK with the exception of Hugo laying down the vocals from his home in Montreal (Quebec, Canada). Some of you will have noticed the line-up contains two vocalists, and indeed this is the case. For this new Band, Frankie wanted to take some time out from vocal duties and concentrate on playing his guitar. This sees Hugo taking front stage... Not for every song, though! Who knows what you expect, but what we do ask of you before listening is that you find your comfortable spot, abandon any preconceptions, and as always play it loud.

Former/current projects include Puff Pieces, Antelope, Weed Tree, Light Beams, Vertebrates, and Stigmatics. Like the aforementioned groups, Sensor Ghost owes a debt to the freaked-out sonics and icono- clastic creativity of the storied DC punk scene.
The band’s first LP, “Irritation on Demand,” was recorded with Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studios over a few feverish days in March of 2024.The band will be touring the US and Europe throughout 2025.

January 1981 found Gudrun Gut and Bettina Koster in Christopher Franke’s Berlin-Spandau Studio recording their first Malaria! EP (Zensor Records). Christine Hahn of The Static with Glenn Branca and Barbara Ess, joined in from New York, and Manon P. Duursma fresh from Nina Hagen’s O.U.T. project and Susanne Kuhnke completed the Line-Up.

Malaria! started touring intensively soon after the release of their 12”, commencing with a concert with New Order at Brussel’s Ancienne Belgique, and going on from there to concerts with Siouxsie and the Banshees, Birthday Party, The Slits, The AuPairs, Raincoats, Nina Hagen, John Cale, Einstuerzende Neubauten. They played venues as diverse as the Mudd Club, Peppermint Lounge and Studio 54 in New York, the Documenta in Kassel, the Bat Cave in London, Les Bains Douche in Paris, Milky Way and Paradiso in Amsterdam, ICA in London, the Piazza Santa Maria Novella in Florence and Markthalle in Hamburg and naturally, again and again, at the SO36 in Berlin.

While touring, Malaria! used their time off to record in Studios in New York, London, Brussels, New Orleans, and in Berlin (How Do You Like My New Dog? 7”, Weisses Wasser 12”, New York Passage 12”, Revisited MC, Emotion Album). At the BBC studios in London Maida Vale Malaria recorded an Kit Jensen and a John Peel Session.

Malaria! took a break in 1984 - Bettina and Christine re-located to New York, and Gudrun and Manon stayed in Berlin to form, with Beate Bartel, Matador, but not before they recorded their Mini-Album, Beat the Distance. 1992 Gudrun, Bettina, Christine, and Manon met up in New Orleans with Jim Thirlwell (Foetus) to record Elation 12”. Elation was followed by Cheerio, Album, which again was recorded in Berlin.

Chicks on Speed did their own version of Malaria’s song, Kaltes Klares Wasser in 2001, and the Remix went into the German Top 10.

Malaria has been an instrumental part of Berlin Music History, as recently presented at the „Zurück zum Beton“ at Düsseldorf’s Kunstakademie, Kunsthalle Wien „Punk!“, „Geniale Dilletanten“ Goethe Institut, and in B-Movie.

The theme song for that great German road movie yet to be made, Malaria!’s 1981 single “How Do You Like My New Dog?” etched the E into the motion music of their soon-come debut album Emotion with its trail-out line “Immer vorwärts, nie zurück...”. Always forward, never back: from West Berlin to London, Paris, New York and Tokyo... from here, there and everywhere to eternity, the Autobahn goes on forever, with Malaria! at the wheel, spinning new moves from timelines crossed in records and songs right on the money evoking Zarah Leander, fighting the power, staring down Death, and a whole lot more. In all, one merry hell of a ride, and on the evidence of Compiled 2.0, it’s not over yet.

Sextile, das in Los Angeles beheimatete Duo, das für seinen unbeugsamen, elektronischen Punk-Sound gefeiert wird, hat Details zu ihrem kommenden, starken Album „Yes, please.“ bekannt gegeben, das am 2. Mai 2025 auf Sacred Bones erscheint, sowie Pläne für eine umfangreiche Europatournee in diesem Sommer geteilt. Sextile, die sich derzeit mit ihren Labelkollegen Molchat Doma auf einer großen US-Tournee befinden, kündigen ihr neues Album mit der Single „Freak Eyes“ an, die ihren dunklen, pulsierenden Sound in neue Höhen treibt. Der Song beginnt mit einem fiesen Bass-Growl, das abrupt in einen Techno-Beat übergeht, der mit klirrender Kuhglocke und scharfer Hi-Hat gespickt ist. „I feel the pressure / Man the pressure I feel when we're together“, singt Sänger Brady Keehn kühl, aber bestimmt, in den ersten Zeilen. Across two mammoth, critically acclaimed compilations Berlin-based Musician and DJ Curses' Next Wave Acid Punx series has shone a blacklight onto the darker side of club music. Featuring tracks from the 1970s right up to the present day made by both musical legends and up and coming talents alike, Curses has expertly threaded the needle between Experimental Pop, Post Punk, EBM, Electro, Techno and more to produce a stunning alternative history of clubland.

But, as every good digger knows, there's always more gems to uncover and so once again Curses has crowbarred open the electronic music's vaults to bring us four more long forgotten tracks, each one "Revamped" for maximum Dancefloor effect with Curses himself providing 2 edits alongside precision tooled reworks from Melbourne based Stockholm Syndrome and NYC's Andi.

First up from Curses is his Revamp of Deborah Sasson's (Carmen) Danger In Her Eyes, a curio from the wildly inventive mid late 80s that saw the American opera singer collaborate with German producers MCL (MicroChipLeague). A European chart topper on its original release, it's long since languished in obscurity but in Curses' hands is now ready to once again add more than a touch of melodrama to dancefloors.

For his second edit, Curses reworks J.W.B. Hits The Beat's House Fatale, having previously taken a razor to their Body On Body track on Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX. Originally released in 1988, House Fatale is a classic example of just how fast electronic music was evolving back then, bringing together elementsof Electro, Freestyle, House and more amongst a riot of samples, all elements Curses retains whilst nudging the tempo and giving the track a harder edge.

Sticking with the same Westside label that gave us House Fatale, Stockholm Syndrome turns his attention to Voyou's Houseman. Or, as it happens, the 1988 edit by LA's Razormaid that first honed its edges for club play and merged the title track with its b-side. The resulting edit rejuvenates this classic slice of late Cold War club music, its pounding beat, portentous strings and the repeated overdriven vocal refrain of Germany Calling perfect for basement clubs today, in Berlin and beyond.

Finally to complete the EP we have sample-heavy 1988 cut Not Leaving Without Jerry by Belgian duo Marc Borgions & Jo Lijnen aka Philadelphia Five. Originally produced by Luc Van Acker, (better known for his work with the likes of Front 242, Ministry and Revolting Cocks), the track has been handed over to NYC producer Andi, who ups the tempo and hones in on the rhythm section, putting the focus on the staccato drums and throbbing bass line the focal point now and creating a perfect soundtrack for sweat lashed bodies.

Together these four tracks revisit a moment in clubland when the rules were still being written, as Curses explains. "This was a pivotal moment where all genres were still evolving, figuring out what sounds would eventually become staple elements of one another which gave it all this naive, innocent and punk feel. You've got Trance arpeggios, those heavy snares of early EBM, chopped vocals in the style of Chicago and NY formative House music all mixed with Electrofunk and percussive Latin freestyle grooves. A time when we were dancing without boundaries, something very much in the spirit of Next Wave Acid Punx."

A few weeks ago, Brigade Loco officially announced that they will release their third album in the coming months. The band from Gipuzkoa, with seven years of trajectory, will release their new full-length under the title"Bide baten esanahia" ("The meaning of a road"). This new album will finally be released in February 2025. As usual, the album has been recorded at the Sound of Sirens studio in Iruña under the supervision of technician Julen Urzaiz. This album is a firm step forward for a band that wants to evolve and write its own trajectory without repeating chapters previously made. In view of this, the band says they are very excited about the project. It has been more than a year of work and effort before this ambitious project sees the light of day, and they are looking forward to sharing their new tunes with their audience. Brigade Loco are about to start a very important episode in their career. An episode with interesting paragraphs, plotsand characters. Stay tuned.

Serious Trouble label presents a mind bending record that brings together forward thinking jams from the early 80’s into present time with reworks of Tiffy L’Amours’ „Follow Me“ and „Film Musik“ from Die Gesunden. Both received an editorial treatment by Benedikt Frey, Menqui & Philipp Otterbach. With kind allowance by the original composers this 12“ marks the editorial spirit of Serious Trouble and waves tribute to moist cellar jams.

The A-Side „Follow Me“ Rework by Frey & Menqui is a wild extension of the original which gently adds a weird drummy cowbell intro before it introduces the chanting eccentric original. That got enhanced with an extra electronic bass recording and relooped cut & phrases emphasing you to hit the bell just one more time.

On the flip side „Film Musik“ Frey & Otterbach dived into the artists main motive and layerd it with a lyra, sh101 and external drums in an 8 hour session. It respectfully keeps the spirit of the playful original. In comparison to that though they managed to built a seamless endless „escheresque" staircase to mad mountain. An Immortal Acid exploration.

Belgian musician and visual artist Youniss announces his second album which is dubbed ‘White Space’.
The record deals with his own personal ‘panic attack’ instilled by the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. The first single ‘Arms Bent Back’ is out now on Bandcamp and all digital platforms.
The record is set for release on March 8 on the Belgian label VIERNULVIER RECORDS.

De Belgische muzikant en visual artist Youniss kondigt zijn tweede album 'White Space' aan. Op de plaat onderzoekt hij zijn zwarte identiteit na gevoelens die Black Lives Matter in 2020 bij hem teweeg brachten.
De eerste single 'Arms Bent Back' is nu uit op Bandcamp en alle digitale platformen.
De plaat komt op 8 maart uit op VIERNULVIER RECORDS, het label van het Gentse Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER.
