Lotte Lenya and Wilhelm Bruckner-Rüggeberg's 1958 recording of Die Dreigroschenoper (The Three Penny Opera) was the last in a series of albums Lenya made or supervised of her late husband Kurt Weill's music for Philips starting in 1955.

By the time of the January 1958 sessions for Die Dreigroschenoper, Lenya found herself widowed once again; second husband George Davis collapsed and died of a heart attack three months before the session, just like her first husband.

That Lenya was able to pull up herself up by her bootstraps and participate in this recording was nothing short of a miracle, though in terms of performing in the role of Jenny, Lenya was the ultimate pro; she knew it in three languages and, in the end, sang it more than 2,000 times.

The 1958 Die Dreigroschenoper was the first complete recording of this work, and likewise the first to represent Weill's score and instrumentation exactly as it is on the page; seeing to it that this occurred without compromise was one of Lenya's duties in the session.

Death Waltz Recording Company are proud to present one of the coolest electronic scores of the 80s on vinyl for the first time ever, with Alan Howarth's music for the 1983 Jim Wynorski classic THE LOST EMPIRE. A thrilling adventure that spans multiple countries that pits a trio of ass-kicking ladies against a mysterious villain and his plan to create an army of female terrorists from his remote island, the film stars cult actress Raven De La Croix (Russ Meyer's UP!) and the late, great Angus Scrimm (PHANTASM).

Howarth's score is what you'd expect from his revered work with John Carpenter on movies like BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and PRINCE OF DARKNESS: full of expansive colours and incessantly memorable synth hooks, with the main theme juxtaposing ghostly effects against a thumping beat that leads into an amazing high keyboard melody that features throughout the score. Howarth mixes different elements; the effortlessly cool tune for LAPD hero Angel Wolfe, the mysterious and dangerous theme for awesome Native American Whitestar, and the Eastern flavours representing the evil of Dr Sin Do and his island of terror. There's no 'in association with' here - THE LOST EMPIRE is pure Alan Howarth, and it's badass to the 9th degree.

The score to the second chapter of Fargo features music by Emmy nominated composer Jeff Russo, and the song soundtrack contains music from the pivotal moments of the limited series featuring artists like Tweedy, Bobby Womack, Fleetwood Mac, The Chieftains feat. Bon Iver a.o.

Jeff Russo has become a prominent composer, songwriter and arranger in the film and television industry. About his work on the series, the composer said: 'Writing for Fargo has allowed me to push the creatively. It's a composer's dream job to be tasked envelope with creating themes, motifs and melodies for such interesting and deep characters with such incredible stories.'

The Various Artists soundtrack (compiled by Maggie Phillips) features music from pivotal moments of the series and iconic artists such as Billy Thorpe and Bobby Womack. The soundtrack also includes striking covers such as 'I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow' by the Coen Brothers (performed by Blitzen Trapper) or Emmylou Harris' 'Didn't Leave Nobody But The Baby', performed by score composer Jeff Russo and director Noah Hawley.

The Red Violin is the original soundtrack album of the 1999 film The Red Violin (original title: Le Violon Rouge), starring Carlo Cecchi, Sandra Oh and Samuel L. Jackson.

John Corigliano's score mirrors the intricate, mercurial quality of the film itself, as it traces the travels of a haunted violin from 17th century Italy to 20th century Montreal. The score is divided into five suites, one for each stage of the violin's creation and movement. From Italy to Vienna, Oxford to Shanghai and finally to Montreal, the violin makes an eerie musical journey.

Performed by solo violinist Joshua Bell and the Philharmonia Orchestra and conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Corigliano's The Red Violin is a fitting, haunting counterpart to the picture.

The album won the Academy Award for Best Original Score and was nominated for a Grammy Award: Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media.

One of the darkest and in high-demand Italian Library. From the infamous Fonit 7001 series here's the most obscure and deepest Rino de Filippi's creation composed along with maestro Giancarlo Chiaramello, very elusive LP. From his seemingly bottomless well of unreleased conceptual pop, jazz and pioneering electronic experiments, Swiss composer Bruno Spoerri, in conjunction with long term collaborators Finders Keepers, finally unleashes the master tapes to an obscure 1972 feature length documentary called Langstrasse Zwischen 12 und 12 (Long Street Between Midday And Midnight). Directed by Gianni Paggi (who had also worked on Swiss pop music weekly Hits A Gogo) and radio host and author Max Rüeger this seldom seen film studied the stark counter balance between the lifestyles of the inhabitants of Zurich's famous Langstrasse - a varied and vibrant stretch of road in centre of the city which played host to a unique mix of contrasting cultural and social groups, working class families and energetic creatives. Langstrasse Zwischen 12 und 12 explored real-life stories of family run businesses, schools, nine to five commuters and the contrasting nightlife scene including the city's liberal after hours red light district. To accentuate the ironic and slightly schizophrenic nature of the production Paggi and Rüeger called upon Spoerri as one of the country's most versatile instrumental composers to share a first-hand impression of the area as a local himself. Exploring a wide range of musical disciplines from early modified synthesisers to rock rhythms via found sounds, jazz, folk and traditional Greek music, Spoerri successfully infused vibrant bursts of sonic colour into the monochrome imagery of the programme, creating a floating narrative undercurrent quite unlike anything heard on regular Swiss TV during the era.

In scoring such a project to a precise deadline Spoerri would require a trusted group of regular musicians, many of whom would appear on collectable records by Swiss groups such as The Metronome Quintet, The Rainbow Orchestra and Emphasis. As a leader of The Metronome Quintet himself Bruno was comfortable working alongside reliable members Fernando Vicencio (sax and flute), Ueli Staub (vibes, keys and percussion) and drummer Rolf Bänninger - who's prominent playing is best exemplified on the previous Finders Keepers/Spoerri LP Hommage Au Fromage. Other players on this session include Latin multi-instrumentalist Antonio Conde who had simultaneously bonded with Vincencio in the jazz rock super group The Rainbow Orchestra under famous guitarist/soundtrack composer Pierre Cavali (see record FKR008). Another Cavali/Vincencio collaborator to appear on this album is pianist Renato Anselmi who would later join both musicians in the band Emphasis - vital to this session Renato Anselmi would provide extra keyboards to Bruno's experimental and textural synthesiser tones. Later in the 1970s Spoerri would also enlist Anselmi to play on the soundtrack to art house film Lilith (recently sampled by US rapper Jay Z. For hardcore collectors of European jazz the appearance of trumpeter Franco Ambrosetti might warrant some deserved attention. A firm fixture on the Swiss jazz scene alongside Spoerri and regularly playing with George Gruntz, Ambrosetti's earlier work on records alongside players like American sax man Shahib Shihab or French saxophonist Barney Wilen remain some of the most expensive original items on the collectors market. The final icing on the cake for this session would be the inclusion of Switzerland's leading harmonica player Heinz Pfenninger, a welcome addition to the group having played with Ueli Staub in the award-winning Roby Weber Quartet (Pfenninger can also be heard playing bass alongside Rolf Bänninger on Spoerri's aforementioned Hommage Au Fromage LP).

Like most of Bruno's releases on Finders Keepers Langstrasse Zwischen 12 und 12 sees the artist explore unique new territories, combining the skill of incredibly talented musicians and combining his own discoveries in the realms of electronic music and his own brand of post- concrète found sound application which would appear on his rare postcard records made for industrial companies utilising wristwatches, pneumatic drills and forklift trucks as essential parts of his orchestral palette. This early 70's glimpse into Spoerri's narrative composition for the small screen captures an important European artist-cum-scientist treading a seldom trodden path between experimental pop, jazz and music technology in its infancy.

Tossico Amore is La Batteria's personal tribute to the composer Detto Mariano and the movie directed by Claudio Calligari in 1983. It is a true concept album that further expands the already rich sound tapestry of the quartet. La Batteria initially grabbed our attention with a first album that succeeded in combining the typical Italian epic sound attitude with materials coming from the wide, and often obscure, field of sound libraries and film scores.

Tossico Amore is about reworking the music originally composed by Detto Mariano for Caligari's cult movie. Starting with a series of heavy themes inspired by the tough world of drugs, the music slowly transforms into full Progressive-Rock, that's where La Batteria effectively show their wide and multi layered background. A modern Prog-Rock opera that takes shape from Detto Mariano's weird musical ideas and develops through a completely new soundscape. This is the definitive accomplishment of a band who's able to melt sonic elements from the 80's, such as New Wave and Synth Pop, with materials coming from the previous decade. This is truly a new musical experience that shows how the spirit of Italian Progressive music (Rock, Jazz, Libraries, Film Soundtracks) can resonate between past and present. A total blast! Really!

To be remixed by Mala is a rare honour, and one that is perfectly in line with Dubkasm's ethos of always moving forward while staying true to dub's versioning tradition. This 10" cut of 'Victory' - with dreamy, deep bass, Mala's unique percussion style, and the anthemic horns that helped make the original a huge hit - has been exclusive to Mala and Dubkasm sets for a over year. The accompanying video, with its aerial shots of Bristol and close-ups of the musicians has already been an enormous success. The eerie, echo-drenched b-side, 'Stealth' is an all-new, never heard before track. Paying homage to the classic Xterminator sound, with its heavy drums and transistor trickery, it's a driving, powerful tune.

From writer Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Duke Johnson (Moral Orel, Frankenhole) comes Anomalisa, a stop-motion animated film.

Michael Stone, an author that specializes in customer service, is a man who is unable to interact deeply with other people. His low sensitivity to excitement, and his lack of interest made him a man with a repetitive life on his own perspective. But, when he went on a business trip, he met a stranger - an extraordinary stranger, which slowly became a cure for his negative view on life that possibly will change his mundane life.

The score is composed by Carter Benedict Burwell. He is best known as a regular collaborator of the Coen brothers, having scored 17 of their films, among them Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, and True Grit. Other notable works include the Spike Jonze films Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Where the Wild Things Are.

Clint Eastwood That Clint Eastwood Well, sure...Clint has demonstrated a deep love and aptitude for music as both an actor and a director (e.g. Play Misty for Me; Bird) during his entire career, and here you catch him right at the beginning of it, fresh from his success on the TV series Rawhide, crooning (and quite competently so) a collection of country & western favorites! A little-known side of one of Hollywood's biggest icons!

Michelangelo Antonioni´s 1961 masterpiece LA NOTTE is an atmospheric and enthralling movie starring the great Marcello Mastroianni, Jeanne Moreau and Monica Vitti and is the second entry in his famous 'alienation trilogy' the central film of a trilogy beginning with 'L'Avventura' (1960) and ending with 'L'Eclisse' (1962). Antonioni's composer-of-choice for the first and the third movies was Giovanni Fusco, however, Since LA NOTTE was shot in Milan, Antonioni's initial idea was to hire a native composer, Giorgio Gaslini considering that there was a big difference between the jazz music that was being produced in the South and in the North of Italy.. Gaslini wrote his score while the film was being shot, making a cameo with his own orchestra in the party that serves as a background for the film. According to his recollections this ended up being the most bizarre and exciting experience of his career. The end result is fairly unique as well: a catalogue of ambience jazz music that boasts an unprecented phsycological thrust.

Waiting to Exhale was a phenomenon on so many levels. First, it was a literary phenomenon, as the 1992 novel launched author Terry McMillan to superstardom. Then, when the feature film based on the book was released in 1995, it became a broader cultural phenomenon a mainstream Hollywood film focusing on the lives of four African-American women was a genuinely revolutionary act at the time. And, finally, it was a musical phenomenon, as its soundtrack seamlessly blended female R&B divas new (Whitney Houston, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, etc.) and old (Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan) in a masterful suite of songs composed and produced by Kenneth Babyface Edmonds. Critical and commercial reaction to the soundtrack was over the top; The New York Times deemed the album one of the Top Ten releases of the year, and the record topped the Billboard Pop and R&B charts for five and ten weeks, respectively, spawning the #1 hit singles Exhale (Shoop Shoop), Not Gon Cry, and Let It Flow. The Italian incognito dream team comprised of Milano prog keyboardist Vince Tempera and Cinevox sibling Franco Bixio and launched the career of Video Nasty maestro Fabio Frizzi. Bridging the void between Giallo jazz bass driven prog and the arrival of home studios and synthesisers, the omnipresent film music of The Magnetic System marked a sea change in Italian genre film music, promoting melodic electronics to the forefront of Italian pop culture and pre-empting the first murmurs of Italo disco and synth-pop. Sharing session musicians, studios and release schedules with many of the aforementioned luminaries, Bixio, Frizzi and Tempera's magnetic powers continue to attract musicians and aficionados of discerning sight and sound.

Rare outtakes from early pioneering and controversial electronic jazz experiments presented on vinyl for the first time !!
This previously unpressed music provides and absolutely essential insight into Zen master experimental jazz outrider Don Cherry on the eve of his fertile Holy Mountain period which saw the composer combine all his well-travelled influences - such as the free music incubation of France and Germany with the traditional instrumentation of India, north and west Africa - then return to New York with a technicolor dream team and a healthy appetite for emerging synthesisers and electronic music. This project between electro-acoustic pioneer and Synclavier developer Jon Appleton coincided with his own history defining years at Dartmouth College where he played an integral part in the formation of one of Americas first electronic music institutions. Recording benchmark LPs for Folkways Records and Flying Dutchman Jon collaborated with Cherry to create the album Human Music which tested the boundaries of electronic sound, jazz and ethnological disciplines in a series of melodic and rhythmical interfaces that would polarise both musical tastes, pop politics and potential spiritual beliefs in the process.

Recorded in the exact same sessions at Bregman Electronic Music Studio, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire the two tracks Don and Jon did not appear on the Human Music LP and now show a glimpse of what future unisons might have bequeathed before both artists coincidentally re-located to Sweden to pursue their individual and very specific journeys into contemporary music. Released with the blessing and encouragement of Appleton himself this record is quite simply a treasure of a dream-combination from the early doors of genuine alternative popular music. These rare sides combine the creative technology that directly coincided with the dawn of Bob Moog's and Don Buchla's synthesiser revolution with the homecoming of outernational free jazz which, in tandem, spearheaded America's most radical music developments in the subsequent two decades and beyond. Don/Jon and The Human Music sessions also prelude Cherry's further imminent electronic positioning alongside Carla Bley and Don Preston (on Escalator Over The Hill) and in film soundtracks for Jean Rollin collaborator Jean-Noël Delamare and Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain (with Walter Sear) before a hiatus from the for almost a decade. This extra glimpse of that important era, at the hands of these two pioneers, is now available in this very special package.

Directed by Lucio Fulci in the Spring/Summer of 1972 on the lonely Apulian hills in the province of Bari, and released in theaters during the Fall of that same year, "Non si sevizia un paperino" (Don't torture a duckling) is among the most significant and representative works of the Italian genre cinema!
The cast also includes Tomas Milian, Florinda Bolkan and Barbara Bouchet, an exceptional and unique triad, as is the work in question.

At the corners of another virtual trio of '60-70s soundtrack composers we have Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani and, precisely, Riz Ortolani, here author of a mostly classical/symphonic musical accompaniment, never epic or overwhelming, but rather slow, gloomy and, given the content of the film, dramatic and tense. On top of all this, in the end, there's the famous "Quei giorni insieme a te" (Those days together with you), sung by Ornella Vanoni, whose theme is recalled more than once in the other LP tracks.

The importance of "Non si sevizia..." is thoroughly analyzed in the liner notes of this release, the first ever LP version of the full soundtrack, which wasn't at all taken into consideration at the time; the only exception was the single track "Quei giorni insieme a te", released on 45rpm but not representative of Riz Ortolani's work at all. This release finally solves this gap, thanks to a sparkling gatefold cover, with new artwork and a 30x30cm poster insert with lobby cards and flyers of the film.

Waxwork Records proudly presents the expanded and deluxe soundtrack release to TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE. This classic anthology horror film released in 1990 features many big name acting talents such as Debbie Harry, Christian Slater, Steve Buscemi, David Johansen, and James Remar.



John Harrison (Creepshow) acted as both the film's director and the soundtrack's composer. The film was written by George A. Romero (Night Of The Living Dead) and Stephen King.TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE has been referred to as ' The Real Creepshow 3' by horror movie special effects legend, Tom Savini (Dawn Of The Dead, From Dusk Till Dawn).



For this expanded, definitive soundtrack release, Waxwork Records worked closely with John Harrison to track down the original master tapes in the Paramount Pictures vault. Upon locating them, Waxwork faithfully restored and remastered the entire soundtrack for vinyl. Much of the music contained in this new release does not appear on the original 1990 album which is now out of print and has become a collector's item amongst both horror fans and record collectors. Fans of horror movies and synth heavy scores will find Waxwork's TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE THE MOVIE vinyl release right at home in their spider web encrusted record collection.

Mondo is pleased to present the soundtrack to the science fiction cult classic Robinson Crusoe on Mars (1964), for the first time ever on vinyl. Over 50 years before Matt Damon was labelled 'The Martian,' there was the story of lone astronaut Christopher "Kit" Draper and his struggle to survive on the red planet after being marooned by his ship's near miss with a meteor.
For a significant portion of the film - as Kit explores the terrain with no other life to communicate with (except for his monkey, Mona) - Nathan Van Cleave's music takes centre stage. Van Cleave's themes are simultaneously foreboding and triumphant. Only a few short years before Planet of the Apes took science fiction to its inevitable dystopian ends, the soundtrack to Robinson Crusoe on Mars is a pure patriotic time capsule, the sounds of a retro-future when science fiction films were still produced with true optimistic sincerity.

From the one-man studio vault of the guitarist who adorned Histoire De Melody Nelson, The Kick Inside AND Diamond Dogs comes a post-punk, 80's TV soundtrack that aims to restore the unforgettable names of Billy and Icky in your nostalgic consciousness while liberating lost music of a significant unsung UK composer.

Bringing back fractured memories of Scouse teenage rebellion, sports casual weekend wear, chip shop violence and escape missions to the Welsh Valleys (where baby birds are fed Mars Bars and shoplifting is the local currency), the series One Summer made an indelible impression of gritty realism, tragic heartbreak and woeful hope in the hearts of a dumbstruck generation in 1983.

Inducing abject fear in protective parents and a street smart swagger amongst clued-up youths, this adaptation of a coming of age pastoral thriller by a reluctant Willy Russell broke new boundaries pinpointing a cultural teenage void between post punk activism and the acid house years while arguably giving Thatcherite telly addicts a tiny kick up the arse.

Scored by legendary KPM/De Wolfe library musician Alan Parker, a renowned session player for Serge Gainsbourg, Kate Bush and Bowie (amongst many more) this score retains a genre defying personality, pinpointing the stylistic essence of the era while successfully switching from barren Rumble Fish funk, pastoral Moog noodlings, Pentangular folk, 80's post-punk rhythms with hints of dubby melodica/harmonica. Composed to cue for the short five-part series (that TV commissioners were too scared to revisit), Parkers bursts of self-propelled small screen scoring came in one to two minute spells allowing Finders Keepers to comfortably fit the entire soundtrack on one neat eleven track limited 7' EP thirty-three years down the train line.

Never before available on any format, Penny Records is honored to present this first time release, mastered from the original tapes, on deluxe 140 gram red vinyl in a gatefold sleeve with bonus CD of the entire album plus a reproduction of the original film poster.

1983's Amore Tossico is a legendary cult film, a stark and unflinching look at Italy's 'junkie generation'. Directed by Claudio Caligari, he approached the film more like a documentary than a work of fiction, using as his 'actors' actual and recovering junkies; Caligari 'imagined it more as a straight-up visual ethnography, hyperreal, replete with humor in the most grotesque situations - like life.'

Accompanying Caligari's stark imagery and story is the soundtrack by Detto Mariano - a prolific composer, arranger, and pianist - who wrote the entirety on his FAIRLIGHT series IIx, a now revered synthesizer that had just been released that year. The sound is therefore scary and up to date, a true companion to the vivid and rough imagery of the movie. This led the composer to a brand new level of engagement: the machine is the tool, hence the music, quite possibly the Italian answer to the industrial revolution. Coming from an academic background, Detto Mariano knew little of the so-called grey area, but in fact Amore Tossico can easily be associated with the pioneers of the genre, such as Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire. The soundtrack is dark, angular, harsh and - just at times - funky. Surely it can rival the intensity of Carpenter's The Thing or Throbbing Gristle's Heathen Heart

Jack's cover of the Stevie Wonder classic performed by White on the season finale of ABC's hit series, The Muppets. This 7" single includes White's cover with the legendary Muppets house band, the Electric Mayhem, on the a-side, plus the special TV rendition featuring the Electric Mayhem along with the rest of the Muppets singing along as the b-side.

In 1958 the BBC Radiophonic Workshop opened with the aim to enhance in the main, drama output on the Third Programme (now Radio 3) following the development of new electronic music techniques emanating from Europe. Their work expanded across the BBC to take in TV drama (especially sci-fi), schools programmes and themes. The latter being their most celebrated and well known work, Delia Derbyshire's treatment of Ron Grainer's theme for Doctor Who. This collection, originally released by BBC Records in 1979 to celebrate 21 years of the workshop appears for the first time in its full original form on CD. From The Goons (Bloodnocks Stomach) to the Interval Signal to Doctor Who and Great Zoos Of The World this is a fascinating chronicle of some of the most innovative music ever made. These groundbreaking compositions providing a major influence on music from The Beatles and Pink Floyd and onwards into the contemporary world of Aphex Twin, Orbital and The Chemical Brothers.
