Flowing and brimming with life, ‚Anohito', the second album by indie supergroup Spirit Fest, has come ashore.

The group is comprised of Tokyo-based duo Tenniscoats (Saya and Takashi Ueno), Markus Acher (The Notwist, Rayon), Cico Beck (Aloa Input, The Notwist) and Mat Fowler (Jam Money, Bons). Crossing boundaries geographically and musically, each member contributes rich experiences in collaboration. But experience can be a tricky friend to navigate, often leaving musicians trapped in their comfort zones. However, Spirit Fest embodies the idea of perpetual motion. Ever-changing and keeping their music alive, the singular souls of Spirit Fest have been drawn together a second time.

In the wake of releasing their first record, the group embarked on an European tour where they found their own distinct character and collective voice. From this shared experience, new songs and recordings followed, encompassing ‚Anohito' (Japanese for ‚that person').

The first two album tracks were constructed on a day off in London. The triumphant opener ,Anohito (Till The Gate)', an extraordinary minor key title track, sets the tone of the record; Saya's tender voice and the shimmering, delayed guitars and zither reach delicate and pastoral heights. The loopy folktronica of ‚Fête De Départ' continues to preserve the pace of the album perfectly.

Spirit Fest recorded the remainder of ,Anohito' at Markus's home in Munich. Only Mat operated from London, contributing additional recordings in the form of a tape exchange. These begin with the collective lament of ‚Yuri's Zahn', followed by Markus's evocative banjo pop ‚Look At The Colours' and the twisted Raymond Scott/Dick Hyman-ish wonk of ‚Ueno The Future'. The album draws to a close with ‚Takeda No Komoriuta' (‚Lullaby Of Takeda'), a beautiful cover of a dark Japanese traditional, followed by the instrumental track ‚Bye Bye' - a perfect collage to close and document this rich and playful collaboration by highly imaginative & ego-free musicians.

With his new album Songs of Resistance 1948 - 2018, Ribot—one of the world's most accomplished and acclaimed guitar players—set out to assemble a set of songs that spoke to this political moment with appropriate ambition, passion, and fury. Since his work with Tom Waits on 1985's Rain Dogs album, though, he is best known to the world as a sideman, playing on countless albums by the likes of Elvis Costello, John Mellencamp, Norah Jones, the Black Keys, and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' Grammy-winning collaboration Raising Sand.

Austin based psych collective Sungod returns to Holodeck with the transcendent new full length Wave Refraction, out August 24th, 2018. Reflecting a wide range of influences, this eclectic array of songs coalesce in harmony as Sungod continues to construct innovative ways to compose their unique brand of instrumental music. Wave Refraction raises the bar as Sungod once again demonstrates their outstanding musicianship and cosmic vision.

Formed in 2009, Sungod is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalists Michael C. Sharp and Braden Balentine, whose friendship formed around a mutual love for such musical pioneers as Sun Ra, Tangerine Dream, John Fahey and others. Guitar, bass, drums and synthesizers established the band's foundational elements, but as their songwriting burgeoned, they began integrating flute, acoustic guitar, drum machine, piano and even field recordings to round out their multifaceted sound. This large assemblage of instrumentation allowed for deeper arrangements and a wider scope of motif variation. Over time, Sharp and Balentine recruited musicians from Austin's broad pool of talent to contribute to the many layers of Sungod's dense and ever expanding landscape. Sungod's method of experimentation is reminiscent of the early stages of Kraftwerk and Pink Floyd, reinterpreting the established to create something wholly original.

At first, it's difficult to pinpoint exactly what makes Our Girl so special, or why the Brighton-formed, London-based trio's music stands out within a busy crowd of fellow guitar-wielding-types. But if an explanation didn't jump out when they first emerged with a debut EP of mighty fuzz-soaked songs in November 2016, it surfaces with 'Stranger Today', a debut album of personal, emotional juggernauts that could have only been made by these three people: Guitarist / vocalist Soph Nathan, bassist Josh Tyler and drummer Lauren Wilson.

Since forming in Nathan and Tyler's Brighton home four years ago - Wilson joining as a late recruit when she was wowed by a demo of their self-titled debut track, and 'Stranger Today''s opener - Our Girl's members have only had pockets of time to work together. A day booked in a local studio here, a soundcheck there, full-time jobs and other projects meant the three rarely had a concentrated, collective patch. This changed in September 2017, when they stayed in Eve Studios in Stockport for a week, recording with Bill Ryder-Jones. Their week in Stockport became a crucial catalyst for what would follow. Ryder-Jones is a guitar virtuoso himself ('He did stuff neither me or Soph had ever seen anyone do before,' Tyler remarks), and he became an unofficial fourth member of the group.

'Stranger Today' is a special debut for several reasons: First, because it's the sound of a band beginning to grasp their own value and place in the world. Secondly, because you can hear the trio's hunger to finally get in the same room and put to tape years' worth of scrapbooks, half-finished ideas, and a slowly-forming feel for how their first album would actually sound. 'What band isn't itching to make their debut But it's quite frightening, knowing you're about to do it,' Wilson remembers.

The real clincher, however, is Our Girl's dynamic, and how it plays out across 'Stranger Today'. Best friends in person, the trio share the same close kinship and chemistry on record. On one side is Nathan's visceral lyricism, which has a habit of detailing and chipping away at precise moments; the first heart-flutter of a new crush; the moment a long-term friendship begins to ebb away. Around her, Tyler and Wilson's rhythm section carefully mirrors each feeling Nathan conveys. When she sings pointedly about love ('I Really Like It'), she's backed by a major-key afterglow. When the subject turns on its head ('Josephine'), out steps a wall of taut, earth-shaking noise. They each 'serve the song,' in Wilson's words, moving in sync but with their own personal slant. Not least on the closer 'Boring', where all restraint is thrown aside and the trio let out one final, violent thrash. They inhabit a space bigger than the first loves, sleepless nights and growing pains that define this record.

Nathan remembers being in Brighton four years ago, shortly after Our Girl formed, and realising, 'I was finally in the band I wanted to be in.' Almost half a decade later, and this eureka moment is sewn up on 'Stranger Today'. It's the sound of three friends totally at ease in their own space, discontent with being anywhere else; a vibrant document of what it's like to be young, invigorated and amongst people who feel the same.

Perfect Miracle' through to the fading Morse Code at the close of 'Sail On Through', it painstakingly wraps layer upon layer of gloriously transcendent sound together to create a mesmerizing and cinematic collection of songs.
There are points - the thunderous climax of 'On The Sunshine'; the spectral waltz of 'The Prize'; the towering guitar solo on 'I'm Your Man' - where the waves of blissful noise are almost overwhelming, where one can imagine the studio's speakers vibrating themselves off of the walls. Which is an incredible feat when you discover that the album was conceived and recorded almost entirely by one man -
Jason Pierce, AKA J.Spaceman - in an upstairs room in his east
London home. Sat in an edit suite in Whitechapel a month or so after finishing recording, Jason talks honestly about the painstaking, frustrating process of creating 'And Nothing Hurt': 'Making this record on my own sent me more mad than anything I've done before. We'd been playing these big shows and I really wanted to capture that sound we were making but, without the funds to do, I had to find a way to work within the constraints of what money I had. So I bought a laptop and made it all in a little room in my house.

Hypochondriac, the third full-length album from San Diego band The Frights, is an album full of addictively catchy songs about fear and frustration. 'I've gotten better with time, but I'm pretty paranoid about most things, especially health issues—I think everything's killing me,' says Mikey Carnevale, vocalist/guitarist for The Frights. 'That, mixed with anxiety, means that I can be a real baby. All of these songs address this in one way or another.' The album is their first full-length for Epitaph Records, who signed The Frights in early 2018. Produced by FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper, Hypochondriac follows The Frights' 2016 album You Are Going To Hate This and marks a period of major creative growth for the band (which also includes bassist Richard Dotson, drummer Marc Finn, and guitarist Jordan Clark). 'I wrote every song on an acoustic guitar, which is something I made a point to do,' says Carnevale. Throughout Hypochondriac, The Frights build a brilliant tension between their shiny hooks and painful lyrics, their goofball spirit and melancholy outlook. In the end, the album unfolds as their most emotionally honest work so far, just as the band intended it to be.

Over the last several years, the Zappa Family Trust and UMC have lovingly been restoring Frank Zappa's iconic catalog together by reissuing his classic albums on CD and pressing long-out-of-print records back on vinyl. Next up in the ongoing vinyl initiative, coming on the heels of the reissue of his enigmatic Burnt Weeny Sandwich, is Zappa's 1970 stylistically diverse and subversive album, Chunga's Revenge, which will receive a 180-gram audiophile repressing on black vinyl on July 20. Supervised by the ZFT, the record, which has been unavailable on vinyl for more than three decades, will be press pressed at Pallas In Germany and feature reproductions of the original artwork. Chunga's Revenge, although released under Frank Zappa's own name, introduced a new Mothers lineup that included former Turtles members Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, aka Flo and Eddie, as well as keyboardist George Duke, drummer Aynsley Dunbar and multi-instrumentalist Ian Underwood. The album is one of Zappa's most eclectic efforts, encompassing the improvisational title track, the raucous guitar jam "Transylvania Boogie," the bluesy "Road Ladies" and the jazzy "Twenty Small Cigars," along with more conventional rock numbers like "Tell Me You Love Me," "Would You Go All the Way" and "Sharleena."

Mac Demarco - Salad Days Demos

Mac DeMarco's breakthrough sophomore album, Salad Days - released on April Fools', 2014 - garnered widespread critical acclaim, landing on over 30 Year End lists. It was the album that catapulted DeMarco from 'loveable slacker' to 'mature songwriter with a gaptoothed grin,' all at the tender age of 23. DeMarco's demos for Salad Days, originally included in an expanded edition of the album only available on Captured Tracks Mail Order site, peel back the curtain of said artist, who, up until then, may have been more known for his raucous live shows than his genuine talent as a songwriter and craftsman. Pioneer of the hang (handpan), captivating musician Manu Delago has announced the forthcoming release of a unique and awe-inspiring movie and accompanying album, Parasol Peak out September 7th, in which Delago leads an ensemble of 7 musicians on a mountaineering expedition in The Alps. Along the way, the group perform a collection of brand new compositions in different locations, at varying altitudes.

The Austrian-born composer was discovered by Björk, who first invited him to perform alongside on her Biophilia tour. He is now a fixture of Björk's live lineup and has also toured with The Cinematic Orchestra and Olafur Arnalds. Further, he earned a Grammy-nomination for his work on Anoushka Shankar's album Land of Gold, performed Hang on Poppy Ackroyd's latest album 'Resolve' and appeared as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra.

It is for this reason that the musician spends a great deal of his life on the road and in studios, collaborating with various artists as well as writing, recording and performing his previous two critically-acclaimed electronic-driven albums Silver Kobalt and Metromonk. This was how Parasol Peak became an exercise in the artist removing himself from studios, tour busses and laptops, and seeking to compose and perform both within and as part of nature, using only totally acoustic instruments.

Delago was not only inspired to incorporate the ensemble's natural surroundings in The Alps, but also the percussive sounds of the group's climbing gear. Delago comments: 'Of course performing on acoustic instruments has been done for thousands of years, so I wanted to add an extra component - nature, or more precisely the Alps. I wanted to utilise our surroundings by incorporating lots of percussion sounds like trees, water, little rocks as well as the gear that we were carrying, such as helmets, carabiners or ice axes.

'In general, I find limitations inspiring and in the case of Parasol Peak I was limited to a fixed ensemble of 7 musicians. The different locations also brought various limitations, which affected how I composed the music. At some locations we were vertically aligned and couldn't see each other. At others we couldn't hear each other, or we were trying to survive while playing.'

Director and producer Johannes Aitzetmüller knew that the expedition would be one of his most difficult shoots yet. He comments: 'Because I know the mountains and the situation I knew I could handle it, but what about the rest of the crew How long can we shoot and how many times can we film the same performance over and over again in these conditions

'On almost every location we faced a tough climb first, then very cold conditions (physically and also playing), snow, installation time of the audio, instruments out of tune and finally - the shooting. We sometimes could film only 2 takes, because the instruments were out of tune again, or the fingers too cold or the icy wind blowing too fast. The audio engineer, Michael Reisigl, installed a network of recorders, cables and microphones all over the rocks. On the right and left side there were sometimes more than 50m of vertical rock - so falling was no option. It was crazy how he performed. Further, we knew that the crew shouldn't wait too long doing nothing because of the cold, the motivation and the instruments. And I knew that the filming had to be perfect first time - there won't be another chance.'

The expedition posed life-threatening conditions for the ensemble, which at times had Manu questioning the project. 'There were several moments of physical struggle and anxiety in the group' says Manu, 'but that makes playing music together even more emotional'. A drastic unseasonal temperature drop causing heavy snowfall complicated the journey further and made for a bigger challenge musically, with the group performing in exposed locations at freezing temperatures.

'There were definitely moments when individuals in the group would have turned around and left the expedition' Manu admits. 'But because we could only do it as a group, we had to strongly support each other. We had to help each other carrying instruments and gear, as well as help each other in overcoming anxieties and exhaustion.'

The result of the struggle that the group endured is a completely rare, once-in-a-lifetime piece of work - both stunning visually and remarkable musically. The album could very much sit wonderfully amongst the contemporary classical giants of the present, but there is no escaping its distinctiveness - with flecks of European folk embedded in the brass and accordion melodies, as well as prog drones performed on the strings and handpan, ornamented by taps and whistles from various natural sources. Sonically, without the visual, the evidence of nature is present throughout.

'For most of us it was physically the hardest thing we've ever done' Manu comments, summarising the journey. 'But it was an incredible feeling to reach the summit and overcome those challenges. More than anything - the whole expedition was simply an incredibly connecting experience for the ensemble.

Diorama is the fourth studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair. The album won an ARIA Music Award for Best Rock Album in 2002. With the release of Diorama they were growing more into their own sound, with a fine mix of orchestral pop and rock. Their alternative rock sound has changed to a more melodic one. With the sounds of the harpsichord, organ and orchestra they created their own rock opera. Leadsinger Daniel Johns is bringing the best of rock and opera together in his high and impressive vocal parts. But there's still a tough of their alternative rock sound in songs like 'Without You' and 'Too Much Is Not Enough'. All in all, Silverchair released an ambitious and gorgeously produced album.

Silverchair were an Australian rock band formed in 1992 and have sold over 9 millions albums worldwide. Their sounds evolved during the years from the grunge and alternative rock to pop and art rock. In 2011 they announced their 'indefinite hibernation' and it is still unknown to date if they ever going to return on stage.

Diorama is available as a limited edition of 2.000 individually numbered copies on solid yellow & transparent green mixed vinyl.

Iron & Wine follow up their 2018 Grammynominated full-length 'Beast Epic' with 'Weed
Garden', a collection of material that began about
three years ago. The six-song mini album features
songs that were part of the writing phase for
'Beast Epic' but went unfinished. They were part of
a larger narrative for principal songwriter Sam
Beam, who ran out of time to get them where they
needed to be for inclusion on 'Beast Epic'.
'Weed Garden' also includes the fan favourite
'Waves of Galveston'.
While on tour last fall, the final pieces of material
took shape and a sense of urgency prevailed in
bringing these characters full circle. To resolution.
To completion. In January, Beam and company
hunkered down in Chicago at The Loft recording
studio to capture these six songs. No more, no
less.
'Weed Garden' joins the good company of previous
Iron & Wine EPs / mini albums - 'The Sea and
Rhythm', 'Woman King' and 'In the Reins'.

Colin MacIntyre is an award-winning musician, producer, author and playwright. He has released eight acclaimed albums to date, most notably under the name Mull Historical Society, having achieved two UK Top 20 albums and four Top 40 singles, since his Gold-selling debut album, 'Loss'.

'Wakelines' is the new album from Mull Historical Society. Produced by the Mercury Award-winning songwriter and Brit Award-winning Producer Bernard Butler, this is Colin's eighth album and was recorded in London at Butler's studio.

This album is the first time Colin has worked with someone like Bernard Butler. 'I had a feeling about the album that I needed to get somewhere new - it was Bernard who realised what I was saying was I needed to get under my skin, lay myself bare."

This is Colin's first release in over 2 years, but he hasn't been procrastinating in the studio. Following his first novel in 2015 'The Letters of Ivor Punch' - which went on to win the Edinburgh International Book Festival First Book Award - he has now adapted it for the stage and has just released two new books. A memoir about his childhood growing up on the Isle of Mull entitled 'The Boy In The Bubble' which is his contribution to the W&N Books 'Hometown Tales - Highlands & Hebrides' series of original tales by regional writers. There is also his first children's picture book 'The Humdrum Drum' (Little Door Books) about an orchestra drum, promoting togetherness and teamwork, which comes with an accompanying CD of original related songs and audiobook from Colin.

'Fronting this kind of band was a new experience for me,' says Stokes. 'I never thought I had the right voice for it.'

From the irresistible title track to future singles 'Happy Unhappy' and 'You Wouldn't Like Me,' Stokes commands a vocal range that spans from the brash confidence of Joan Jett to the disarming vulnerability of Jenny Lewis. Channeling their stew of personal-canon heroes while drawing inspiration from contemporaries like Alvvays and Courtney Barnett, The Beths serve up deeply emotional lyrics packaged within heavenly sounds that delight in probing the limits of the pop form. 'That's another New Zealand thing,' Stokes concludes with a laugh. 'We're putting our hearts on our sleeves—and then apologizing for it.'

The Devil Makes Three - Chains Are Broken

The power of words isn't lost on longstanding Americana
triumvirate The Devil Makes Three - Pete Bernhard, Lucia
Turino and Cooper McBean. For as much as they remain rooted
in troubadour traditions of wandering folk, Delta blues,
whiskey-soaked ragtime and reckless rock 'n' roll, the band nod
to the revolutionary unrest of author James Baldwin, the noholds barred disillusionment of Ernest Hemingway and
Southern Gothic malaise of Flannery O'Connor.
In that respect, their sixth full-length and first original material
since 2013, 'Chains Are Broken' resembles a dusty leatherbound book of short stories from some bygone era. As the
band began writing ideas for the record they veered off the
proverbial path creatively.
Instead of their typical revolving cast of collaborators, The Devil
Makes Three stuck to the signature power trio, with one
addition. This time they invited touring drummer Stefan Amidon
to power the bulk of the percussion.
Another first, they retreated to Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso,
TX a stone's throw from the Mexican border to record with
producer Ted Hutt (Dropkick Murphys).
The incorporation of new sounds as well as the
experimentation in space finds The Devil Makes Three crafting
a new yet still familiar sound. Coupled with a continued focus
on in-depth lyricism that tells a story in every song, 'Chains Are
Broken' is a liberating, rump-shaking collection of past, present
and future.

Released in the immediate aftermath of the runaway
success of The Breeders' platinum-selling second
album 'Last Splash' and the Pixies calling it a day the
first time round, The Amps are an important part of
the Kim Deal canon.
First intended as a solo project, The Amps instead
grew into a fully-fledged band with Jim MacPherson
from The Breeders joining on drums and Dayton, OH
musicians Luis Lerma and Nate Farley on bass and
guitar respectively. Releasing just one album, 'Pacer',
in 1995 and after a whirlwind of touring with the likes
of Foo Fighters, Guided By Voices and Sonic Youth,
Kim returned them to the shelf, leaving behind one of
her most intriguing chapters.
A glorious record whose charm has only grown since
release, 'Pacer' captures Kim energised by a new band
and no pressure, recording with purpose in seven
studios with a different engineer each time. The
resultant record is both raw and undeniable, with
Kim's songwriting arguably at its most cryptic and
personal. Don't be fooled by its casual lo-fi veneer too,
underneath lies one serious record that never dips or
lacks purpose.

The Moldy Peaches - The Moldy Peaches

The Moldy Peaches' self-titled debut album set for reissue on
CD and red coloured vinyl. This is the first vinyl pressing of the
album in 15 years and the vinyl format also includes a bonus 7'
single of 'County Fair' / 'Rainbows'.
The Moldy Peaches were established in the mid-90s by Adam
Green and Kimya Dawson, after meeting in upstate New York.
The duo helped spawn the 'anti-folk' music genre movement,
bringing a more quirky, lo-fi punk element into the indie music
scene. After releasing their own music for a few years, they
collected their best material for a proper album and in 2001
shared 'The Moldy Peaches' via Rough Trade Records.
Known for their sense of humour, whimsy and self-deprecation,
the album featured gems like 'Downloading Porn With Davo'
and 'Who's Got The Crack'. In 2007, 'Anyone Else But You'
(another song from the aforementioned album) was used in the
Academy Award-winning movie 'Juno' and reignited the album's
cult popularity. Since then the two founders have had continued
success in their respective solo careers.
Kimya Dawson has also made children's albums and collaborated with many artists including Aesop Rock, They
Might Be Giants and The Mountain Goats. Adam Green has
several albums on Rough Trade, as well as showing exhibitions
of his visual art and making films.
When asked what he thought about reissuing the album at this
time, Adam Green said 'It's been 17 years since this was last
released and we are putting it out again just in time to
capitalize on the popularity of 'Juno'. JK LOL we are slow at rereleasing stuff. We decided to ignore Barbara Walter's advice
when she told us to strike when the iron was hot, and decided
to wait until the iron had become safely tepid. Once a Moldy
Peach, always a Moldy Peach. Bon appétit!'
