Eddie Harris was an American jazz musician, best known for playing tenor saxophone and for introducing the electrically amplified saxophone. During his career he recorded over 50 albums, mixing jazz with funk which resulted in Grammy Award nominations for two of his albums. The 1983 People Get Funny... recording contains the title track "People Get Funny When They Get a Little Money" and "La Carnival", which are sublime examples of his jazz-funk style accompanied by vocals and scatting. "Silver Plated" and the other tracks are more in the jazz-hard-bop style. Featured on the album are drummer Carl Burnett, electric pianist William S. Henderson III and bass-player Larry Gales.

Fitzgerald’s concert and club dates, and wherever she goes, her
reception bears out an opinion that I have long held: People who
love good popular music are the same all over the world. Take, for
example, this record – “Mack The Knife”. It was recorded during a
concert at the Deutschlandhallen in Berlin which holds almost
12,000 people, and you can hear the same enthusiastic reaction,
the same eager applause, that mark similar recordings Ella has
made before live audiences in America. That concert – and this
album – have come to be regarded as something special because
of Ella’s version of Mack The Knife. It was the first time she’d sung
the song, and not knowing the lyric too well, she substituted her
own – for what may well have been an improvement on the

Ella Fitzgerald was, by any yardstick, a remarkable singer. She
had achieved much by the time she signed to the newly created
Verve Records in 1956, but it was the genius of Norman Granz,
her personal manager and Verve founder, in suggesting she
tackle the material of great contemporary composers in themed
albums that sent her career into orbit. As the New York Times
wrote on her passing in 1996, "These albums were among the
first pop records to devote such serious attention to individual
songwriters, and they were instrumental in establishing the pop
album as a vehicle for serious musical exploration." The song
selections ranged from standards to rarities, and the eight-title
series represented an attempt by Fitzgerald to cross over to a
non-jazz audience that may have been unaware of the talents
she first committed to vinyl in 1935.

It was certainly an act of genius on the part of Norman Granz to
devise the concept of Ms. Fitzgerald devoting a double album to
the work of one of America's finest and most revered composers.
When Granz launched the Verve Records label in 1956, his first
release was the ground-breaking album that would elevate Ella's
career to new heights. Ella was eminently suited to interpreting
Cole Porter's clever, sophisticated lyrics. So indulge yourself in
this wonderful collection of 32 songs both written and delivered
by the best.

Bristol-based singer, songwriter and bandleader, who has powered her
way to the-forefront of the British blues and roots scene in recent years,
unveils her eagerly-awaited third album 'Shining in the Half Light'
Crammed with vibrant originals brought to life with her A-list touring band, it's yet
another significant step forward in a career already feted with awards and
acclaim.'Shining in the Half Light' is Bailey's first full length album recorded in the
UK & feature's Joe Wilkins on Guitar, Jonny Henderson on Ivories, Matthew Waer
on Bass duties and Matthew Jones on drums. It was recorded in deepest Devon
in December 2020 at Middle Farm Studios and produced by Dan Weller, best
known for his long working relationship with Enter Shikari. Elles wanted this
record to feature 'gospel style vocals' so in steps Izo Fitzroy, an incredible artist in
her own right, who arranged the stunning background vocals on 'Shining In The
Half Light', and performed them alongside Jade Elliot and Andrusilla Mosley.
An exciting team of co-writers feature with three credits for Ashton Tucker & Will
Edmunds, who both wrote with Elles for 'Road I Call Home', plus she teamed up
with longtime guitarist Joe Wilkins to write the slow-flowing, philosophical 'Riding
Out The Storm'. Other kindred spirits include guitar maestro Martin Harley, for the
gentle and romantic 'Different Kind Of Love' and Matt Owens, co-founder of the
hugely successful indie- folk outfit Noah and the Whale, on the aforementioned
'Sunshine City'. The album comes to a striking conclusion with its title track, cowritten with Nashville's Craig Lackey, written over Zoom in May 2020.

Where the original Animals was a Newcastle-based British R&B combo, Eric Burdon’s New Animals was a San Francisco-based Psychedelic rock band. For the first six months of its new incarnation, the group spent a good deal of time in the UK and managed to cut five different session for BBC radio. This LP presents the finest tracks from four 1967 sessions and from one in 1968 with Zoot Money on keyboards. Sixteen songs cut over a two-year period, from ballads and blues through to out and out psych - all performed in a ‘live in the studio’ setting.

and soul – a sunny, funky and laid back album combining the vibe of
1970s Laurel Canyon, swaths of Hammond B3 organ, a rhythm section
that appear to be joined at the hip, and of course that punchy Eric Krasno

It evokes the spirit of Sly Stone, D'Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, and, dare we say his
name, Prince? 'Always' also alludes to the album cover, showing Eric's wife, then
pregnant with their now born son. This album is dedicated to them.

For seventeen years, we’ve known her as the award-winning slide goddess whose heart-and-guts songs have shaken the blues-rock scene. But as the Finnish bandleader confirms with latest album Another World, we’ve only scratched the surface. “The album title is the idea of stepping into a new territory, musically and spiritually,” she explains. “Walking towards a new land of musical ideas, not being afraid to express myself. This album is open-minded, curious and empowering.”

In a cynical world where manufactured bands stick to the formula, Lyytinen has always broken through the boundaries of genre. This is an artist capable of flowing from the primal blues of international debut Pilgrimage (2005), to the orchestration of Voracious Love (2010) and the soulful Elmore James tributes of The Sky Is Crying (2014). But following the shattering breakup that fuelled Stolen Hearts (2017), Lyytinen found herself tearing out the page and writing a new chapter. “While Stolen Hearts was made during tough times,” she reflects, “Another World is like spring, bringing in new fresh life and hope. The whole album is rockier and funkier, with elements of blues, pop, hard-rock, prog-rock – one song even has an Irish vibe.”

Written, recorded, mixed and mastered across the planet by the greatest sonic architects on the modern scene, Another World feels like an album in motion. The songs passed through iconic locations including Gavin Lurssen’s Grammy-winning Lurssen Mastering in LA, while the thrilling mix was crafted by Austin, Texas legend Chris Bell, who recognised Lyytinen as a talent to match up to A-list clients like The Eagles, Erykah Badu and Eric Johnson. But Lyytinen’s soaring vocals and fire-in-fingers slide work mean these songs always feel like one vision, even with the tracklisting running the gamut of genres and moods. Often recognized as one of the greatest singers of all time, Etta James recorded a dozen of classics, which are still performed by all kind of artists all over the world. She performed in various genres, including blues, R&B, soul, rock and roll, jazz and gospel. During the years she recorded classics like “The Wallflower”, “I’d Rather Go Blind”, “I Just Want To Make Love To You”, and “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”. Together with fan favourites and some unknown pearls they’re all brought together on the Collected 2LP.

Etta James’ professional career as a musician started in the mid-50s. During the ‘60s she recorded many albums, including At Last! (1960) and Tell Mama (1967). Songs from these albums like “All I Could Do Was Cry”, “At Last”, “I’d Rather Go Blind”, and “Tell Mama” can be found on this album. During the ‘70s she was moving on with releasing album, before she faced a number of personal problems, and was out the music industry for years. She made a musical comeback in the late 1980s with the album Seven Year Itch, from which we selected “Damn Your Eyes”. Etta won six Grammy Awards and 17 Blues Music Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993, the Blues Hall of Fame in 2001, and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. While listening to this 2LP release you’ll hear how she developed as a singer and bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and rock and roll.

Matriarch of the Blues, as Etta James is called many times, is an 2000 album marking her return to the blues, after recording country, jazz, and pop songs. The album reached a peak position of number two on Billboard’s Top Blues Albums chart, and was nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album at the 44th Grammy Awards. Matriarch of the Blues includes earthy renditions of Bob Dylan’s “Gotta Serve Somebody,” Al Green’s “Rhymes,” Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness,”, Ray Charles’ “Come Back Baby” and Rolling Stones’ “Miss You.” It’s pure magic, with her incredible vocal range and impressive blues versions of these classics. She reclaims her throne and does this with the best she has to offer.

Etta James‘ greatest ever album, and one of the greatest Soul LPs of all time!

Here’s the story. Down in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Atlantic Records‘ Jerry Wexler had fallen out with Rick Hall at FAME studio after an Aretha Franklin session ended with Aretha storming back to New York. Wexler later set up the Muscle Shoals session guys in their own studio, Muscle Shoals Sound. Furious at the betrayal, Hall went to see Atlantic’s arch-rival, Chess Records, and persuaded Leonard Chess to bring his top Soul acts to FAME. Between August and December 1967, Chess’ Etta James, recorded her greatest album, ‘Tell Mama’, at
FAME.

Etta’s career had faltered, and it took the Muscle Shoals sessions to bring her back. The LP’s title song, Tell Mama, as well as Otis Redding’s Security became Top 40 hits and Top 20 R&B hits for Etta. It was the B-side of Tell Mama that would become the LP’s enduring track, though, I’d Rather Go Blind. This is the original version of a song that has been recorded hundreds of times by artists as diverse as Fleetwood Mac’s Christine Perfect, Rod Stewart, Paolo Nutini, Mick Hucknall, and the Allman Brothers.
