Expanding on their psychedelic-soul sound, The 11th Sky continues the surreal storytelling of last years Aeons EP, which also featured Kimbra and Deva Mahal on vocals. The brand new album is described as "David Lynch meets Motown" by frontman and producer Mara TK, and indeed, a sense of the otherworldly is present here within EWH's layered electronic production and Mara's soaring vocals. Tracks like "Go Slow" walk into the genre-fog amongst drum machines and synthesizers. Meanwhile "I Light A Candle" with it's piano, chopped vocal samples, towering strings and 808s strikes right at the heart of soul music.

Electric Wire Hustle's last album 'Love Can Prevail' found support from The New York Times, BBC Radio and Wax Poetics, and won "Best Electronic Album" at the New Zealand Music Awards, continuing a track record of critical acclaim that started with their debut self-titled album. The 11th Sky is due out on September 30th on LP, CD and digital via Bastard Jazz Recordings (World) and Loop Recordings (New Zealand).

The sound to be found in nature can have a very slow groove. A groove embedded by silence, so slow it can almost only be felt while spending a few hours in the nature at sea, during a forest trip, in open fields, etc. It is this groove and the 'silence' of nature that was an inspiration for the Fieldtone compositions. CAPSULE:1999-2016 is a retrospective collection that represents a golden era for The Faint. The album includes 16 of their most beloved songs from five albums and is an excellent primer for new fans or a classic collection for those who've been nodding along since the Blank-Wave Arcade days. Noisey is running an exclusive premiere of "Skylab1979," one of two new tracks appearing on the album in addition to the recently released "Young & Realistic."

The Omaha-based band had been kicking around for four years prior to that period, but had a hard time hitting their stride. "We didn't make anything we really liked until 1999," frontman Todd Fink laughs. The Faint released some initial material that fit in with the times-reminiscent of the post-punk sounds of Fugazi and other Dischord Records bands-but wasn't anything spectacular, lacking the distinct personality that would eventually come to define them.

It was in writing "Worked Up So Sexual," the hit single from 1999's Blank-Wave Arcade, that the band struck their jackpot moment. They discovered an entirely original fusion of synth sounds over a blaring rock background, one that was as catchy as it was danceable. Just like that, the Faint captured lightning in a bottle.

"I felt lucky... like, blessed or something," Fink remembers. "By the time we'd actually recorded those songs, we were like, 'Yeah, this is where it's at.' We were excited to go play basement shows and little bars and halls and just bring the music that we hunted down, that felt like us."

Still reveling in the success of their newfound identity, the band added death metal guitarist Dapose and released their masterpiece, Danse Macabre, in 2001, one of Saddle Creek's all-time "big three" albums, right up there with Cursive's The Ugly Organ and Bright Eyes' Lifted. It was a dark and sinister work that could still be enjoyed on the dance floor. Songs like "Agenda Suicide" and "Glass Danse" forced blasts of disorienting techno beats into aggressive, almost industrial noise that leaned heavily on filthy bass lines. The album exploded, and their weirdo melange of genres brought them a sizeable audience dancing along.

Armed with their new, dynamic sound, the band released an onslaught onto unsuspecting crowds around the country-a bombastic audio/visual assault of strobe lights, keyboards, and dance-punk. At times, they were convinced that their esoteric style of punk with a fun twist was bound to turn people off, but to their surprise, the Faint began to catch on. Over the next few years, they continued to evolve on Wet from Birth in 2004 and Fasciinatiion in 2008, before taking a hiatus prior to returning for their anticipated 2014 album, Doom Abuse.

CAPSULE:1999-2016 serves to bookend this remarkable 17-year period for the Omaha vets, a time which saw them as imitable pioneers of electro-punk. In addition to highlighting songs from five of The Faint's most popular albums, CAPSULE:1999-2016 features three new songs. The recently released single, "Young & Realistic," and two bonus unreleased songs: "Skylab1979" and "ESP," all of which feature latest member Graham Ulicny (Reptar) on synth duties. Leaving the rooted flora of his previous album(s) behind, Sin Fang glides into uncharted territory with his fourth full-length entitled "Spaceland" - a collection of electrified tunes that pack a soft punch and some invisible bling. It's his idiosyncratic take on future r&b, one that doesn't mince matters and features various guests including Jónsi, Sóley, Pascal Pinon's Jófríður Ákadóttir and Farao.A deeply personal and 100% contemporary take on electronic pop, "Spaceland" is more Southern Fried than Tropic of Cancer: Recorded between L.A. and Reykjavík, it's an album that feels like diary entries spelled out like Billboard news headlines.But it's also a self-therapy made strangely infectious thanks to entirely new production means: Dark lyrics over electrified euphoria, personal confessions set to sizzling hi-hats and heavy bass action. "I wrote most of the lyrics after I started having panic attacks," he explains, adding that the album title actually refers to the headspace he was in during that period when he felt like he "was dying all the time".Mostly written on the piano, entirely self-recorded and self-produced (with support from Jónsi & Alex), Sin Fang thus ventures further into the direction he took with his new project Gangly and unleashes something both banging and feather-light - a combination he already presents in dreamlike album opener "Candyland". A tale of non-belonging, "Lost Girl" oscillates between minimalism and experimentalism, magma-paced introspection and sonic sunlight that belies the darkness, when Sindri jumps to the dance-floor. As for the vocal harmonies of "I Want You To Know": That's classic Sin Fang meets goose bumps like "Cry Me A River". Former Seabear band-mate Sóley is at his side for another slice of epic (anti migraine) pop ("Never Let Me Go"), while Norwegian singer Farao is another female sidekick in the land of loops and swathes: Drawing a face in the melting snow for "Please Don't", he picks up the pace with a hubbub of voices over a glacier-like arrangement. Towards the end, there's more playful beats ("Branches"), more open space ("Snowblind"), and finally, a homecoming of sorts: Slow moving album closer "Down" feat JFDR (that's Jófríður Ákadóttir) sounds like rays of hope rediscovered.Drifting too far away from the sun, it can get mighty cold out (and in) there, gloomy and cold, and yet that free-floating state of zero gravity can also lead to entirely new places. Ninety is the second full-length album and first on ZTT Records by British electronic music group 808 State, released in 1989 and featuring the UK Top 40 single 'Pacific State' which reached #10 in November 1989.

808 State's debut album release on ZTT Records wasn't the first major U.K. house/techno release, but arguably, it was the most important at the time, gaining a reputation over the years as a true classic in the field of electronic music. It helped to fully lay the groundwork for the '90s electronic revolution that continues to play out in the U.K.

Slant Magazine listed the album at #54 on its list of the 'Best Albums of the 1980s' saying 'A thrilling expansion of the possibilities for acid house and arguably the best LP ever produced in the style'.

Anglo-Norwegian singer Sasha Siem reveals the video for her new single 'Bird Burning', taken from her second LP of the same name. The video was directed by Helgi Jóhannsson and Hörður Sveinsson

'Bird Burning' is an turbulent and delicate 3 minutes of avant-garde pop, exploring the darker experiences of love. It was recorded at the Greenhouse studios in Iceland with Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Feist, Sigur Rós, Ben Frost).

We decided to shoot the videos for Bird Burning in Iceland where the album was recorded' says Sasha. The songs on this album explore our inner emotional life as we spiral through the life cycles of birth, death and rebirth. These inner states are well-mirrored in the otherworldly landscapes of Iceland.'

We chose to feature two young women in the video for Crow (the first song on the album, video to be released), and two older women in the video for Bird Burning. Together these videos form bookends to an implied narrative through the alchemical journey from youth to wisdom that occurs as we travel through cycles of love and life.'

The new album is a heart-shaking song-cycle exploring the evolution of a love affair, complete with pop sensibilities and rich neo-classical instrumentation. The lyrics and concept were in part born from her apprenticeship with Jorie Graham, one the century's most celebrated poets and a Pulitzer Prize winner.

The symbolic world of 'Bird Burning' has been mined from Medieval illuminated texts, Norwegian indigenous Sámi practises and the 19th-century art-song tradition. Sasha's sophisticated instrumentation is influenced by her Guildhall Music School training, she is the youngest composer to win the British Composer Award. She also studied music and literature at Cambridge and Harvard.

As she began work on her second album, the death of her Grandmother led Sasha to visit her ancestral home in the far Arctic north of Norway. There, she discovered the music of her Sámi heritage (the only indigenous people of Scandinavia), including the tradition of 'yoiking' or singing in a trance. The Sami don't sing songs about things or people or places, they sing them directly into existence' says Sasha. They don't sing about the bird, they sing the bird, invoking it in a kind of musical magic spell." With its Pagan otherness, the practise was banned by Christian Norwegians until recent times.

'Bird Burning' invokes 5 birds - the Crow, Swan, Peacock, Pelican, and Phoenix - traditionally used by Medieval alchemists to symbolise a soul's journey through life (birth - death - rebirth). Sasha has mapped these birds onto phases in the relationship narrative.

Interwoven with these bird songs are joining 'Air' songs. An air is a musical form used by composers in the Medieval period, as well as the medium birds fly through. The structure of the album echoes back to Schuman's Romantic song-cycle 'Frauenliebe und-Leben' (or 'A Woman's Love And Life') telling the story of the protagonist's first meeting with her love, through their marriage, to their death.

The magical thinking in the songs blends the personal/temporary/specific with the archetypal/eternal. There's nothing weird about acknowledging unseen energies,' says Sasha. After all sound cannot be seen. Sound is vibration. All matter is vibration. In that sense, everything around us is sound'.

This is a true pleasure: The new, the third album by Maurycy Zimmermann aka Mooryc is finally here and it is much more poppy than its predecessors, in places almost folky-dreamy, but one thing especially: delightfully and downright personal. Wiped Out' fits Sonar Kollektiv's repertoire just perfectly and will probably be one of the most respected releases of the Berlin based label this year. When the Pole's first two LPs were mainly electronic affairs and targeted straight at the dance floor, then we have to prepare ourselves now for a cozy listening deeply moving our souls. The blessed and academic trained musician cut eleven genuine, timeless pop jewels for Wiped Out'. You Will Go' is a sugar-sweet ode to goodbye recited in a delicate manner like a wisp of wind. Only on a few tracks (- One Day oder - Bad Luck ) a beat plays a part at all. In this case all the more sophisticated and smarty-pants, so you notice even after all that Mooryc has also released records on the state of the art Jena based techno and house label Freude am Tanzen.
Most of the time it's simply a guitar and the thirtysomething's wonderously magic voice though, which make these songs shine so bright. The title track is one of the many fine examples why this album should be always within easy reach during the imminent winter time. Songs like - Inconceivable or - Who Are You Now air this decent warmth and this tremendous comfort which are more than welcome in these days now when the nights get longer again than the days.

Baby Queens - Cara, Estelle, Monique, Ruth and Vanity are five girls from Cardiff. Two sisters, two cousins and their adopted sister - each equal parts songwriter, musician and music lover. As distinct in their fashion as they are their music - each band member's individual personality and style can be heard in their music.
In 2013 they released their first single 'Red Light.' It was a viral hit, and soon won the attention of BBC Radio 1, who made them 'Artist of the Week,' with repeated plays across the station from the likes of Fern Cotton and Greg James. They've also had support from the likes of Huw Stephens, DJ Target, DJ Semtex and Mista Jam. Plus they were invited to record a live session for the BBC at Maida Vale. Zarenzeit is a band project by the label owners with lead keyboarder and producer George Btp, also known as Allstarr Motomusic or Dan Piu. After several live projects back in the 90ies, the band releases its first full album as "Black Inside" with vocalist Debra Jones Davis and Sarignia Bonfà.
The LP infuses deep soulful house and 80ies funk elements, starting with the ambient house drift of "Time Travel", which soon settles into a classic rare synth pop as "2Souls, 1Heart", while "Let them know they won" blasts more into the spacy and light dancefloor. Sarignia's lovely gospel version of "Talk about a child", ends the album on a spare, but no less grooving, note.

London producer Dark0 has always created his music as a snapshot, a kind of journal, its sole agenda being to illustrate the thoughts, passions and frustrations of a given time and place. Previously releasing with tastemaker labels Lost Codes and Rinse, the 25-year-old's debut for XL is the Oceana EP. Oceana describes the unstable relationship Dark0 shares with his environment, narrating the story of his city's illusions of grandeur, mired by hypocrisy and a false sense of security. Dark0 weaves this narrative into a stunningly warm, sorrowful, yet optimistic sound creating a real cinematic journey for the listener.

Dark0, who emerged as the pioneer of melodic, grime-referencing club anthems, breaks away from his previously known sound for his XL debut. Showcasing Dark0's ease at creating tunneling melodic earworms defined by their punishing percussion and refrain, the Oceana EP journeys through love sick, dark-pop ('Forever') and total euphoria ('Luka'), before retribution ('Plague') and ending with 'Heal''s redemptive qualities.

Beth Orton's debut album, Trailer Park, is one of the most innovative and impressive records of the 90s. It is a beautifully inspired mix of folk and electronica, which may sound like a cliché today but this is the album responsible for that cliché. An extremely hard-to-find Italian library record, first released in 1981 by Piero Umiliani under his pseudonym of Moggi. The A side is Umiliani's compositions performed by a traditional string orchestra, while the tracks have been synthesized for side B exclusively by electronic instruments. Death in Vegas returns with Transmission, the sixth release from the project begun by Richard Fearless nearly two decades ago. This album forges new miles on the path Fearless carved with Satan's Circus and Trans-Love Energies, and is born of his desire for an ever more raw, refined sound.
United over a love of Throbbing Gristle and Chris and Cosey, Fearless partners with artist and writer Sasha Grey, whose lyrics resonate across the soundscape of visceral techno and unsettling, discordant drones, weaving into a state of dreamlike euphoria. Field recordings of the constant drone of air traffic and incessant noise from the steel factory opposite Fearless' Metal Box studio, as well as the Ballardian landscape in which it's set, all exert their pull on the record, searching for light in the dark.

'Anders Trentemøller transcends genres ... with a cinematic scope', the NME once summarized and he is known for the 'captivating complexity' of his songs and 'melancholic contradictions' in both songwriting and sounddesign. It's been a long and exciting way from his debut long player 'The Last Resort' (2006), through projects like 'The Trentemøller Chronicles' or 'Remixed/Reworked' to his second album 'Into The Great Wide Yonder' (2010).

The new album breathes all aspects of the electronic years as well as the guitar driven second album - in a fresh, light-footed way with a wealth of fantastic songs, incredibly well produced.
Now we are happy and proud to present the first single taken off the new album. 'Never Stop Running' is an empathetic, personal, evolving song, that perfectly melts with the expressive vocals of The Drums singer Jonny Pierce with that beautiful melancholia that warms your heart.

The vibe of the song is captured in the video by director and cinematographer Frederik Jacobi. Both the song and the video comprehend the question 'Who Am I'. While Trentemøller's song carefully carves out different shades and moods centered around the main motif, Jacobi took his camera to Los Angeles and used it to 'listen' to people and to create a visual space for the song, while the cover image appears courtesy of Asger Carlsen.
'Never Stop Running' will be performed live for the first time on 29th May at the O2 Arena in London when Trentemøller will be supporting the Depeche Mode concert.

First solo ep for long time Red Axes collaborator Abrao. Brazilian born Abraham Levin, moved fro Sao Paolo to Tel Aviv in the late 90s, after a wild career as leader of the 80s alternative/rock n roll band "Kafka". He met Red Axes while they were still a punk band, and actually produced their 1st and last album. The tables turn, and now Red Axes are producing for him. Laying his vocals on some of RA most know tracks such as : Waiting for a surprise, Camino de Dreyfus, Sabor, Balma and many more. It is time for the world to know the genesis called Abrao. Give him a warm welcome, as he really deserves it.

Originally released on the mighty Y Records in 1982, this single by Disconnection was a mutant disco cover version of a song from Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1949 musical, South Pacific which was made into a blockbuster film in 1958.

An odd choice of a song to cover Well, something was in the air back in '82 as at almost exactly the same time the Disconnection record was released Captain Sensible covered Happy Talk' from South Pacific and had a UK number 1 with it. I'd like to think he got the idea after hearing Bali Ha'i' but that would be pure speculation. What I do know is that even though the Disconnection record made barely a ripple at the time it is by far the superior record. Vocals are by Angela Jaeger

Long sought after and going for stupid money on Discogs, as a long time Y Records freak I am very honoured to have been given permission to make this curiously great record available again and to give it a home in the Optimo Music Disco Plates series. Dick O'Dell's Y Records released so many great records - The Slits, The Pop Group, PIgbag, Sun Ra, Pulsallama, Shriekback, Maximum Joy, The Tesco Bombers and Mouth amongst others - and this one is up there with the best of them.

It is released in the original configuration, Radio Mix, US Discomix and UK Discomix versions alongside the faux exotica delight that is the Angela Jaeger penned Aaaah'. It comes in a shrink-wrapped black disco bag with a 12' x 12' insert featuring the original front sleeve artwork.

You can't accuse Supersilent of keeping the noise down. Ever since the Big Crunch of 1997, when Norway's finest free music outfit came together for the first time, their unpredictable noises and rapturous textures have been heard all around the world - and maybe somewhere outside the stratosphere too. Currently a trio featuring Helge Sten, Arve Henriksen and Ståle Storløkken, Supersilent 's album number 13 marks a turning point in the group's two-decade career. After a dozen recordings under the umbrella of the diverse Rune Grammofon label, Supersilent have now signed to Oslo based Smalltown Supersound, where they join the likes of Lindstrøm, DJ Harvey, Prins Thomas and Andre Bratten as labelmates.

Supersilent is a platform for a highly physical improvised electronic music, made by a trio that's a kind of supergroup of Norwegian players in their own right. Arve Henriksen's hypnotic trumpet has been heard with everyone from David Sylvian and Laurie Anderson to Jan Bang and the ice music of Terje Isungset, as well as releasing a string of acclaimed solo albums on Rune Grammofon. Keyboardist Ståle Storløkken has worked with Motorpsycho, Elephant9, Terje Rypdal, and the Humcrush duo with Sidsel Endresen. Helge Sten uses a complex array of homemade electronics, samplers, sound processing and analogue effects - cumulatively known as the 'Audio Virus' - in his solo ambient music as Deathprod, as well as having worked with Motorpsycho and producing artists like Susanna.

Avesom (name inspired by the dog of Justin Bennett, the sound technician that mixed the album) are creations produced during long reharsals sessions that have taken place mostly during sunsets and late nights. There Torakiki inmersed themselves in a trip where the music achievable with their own finger was tested, rejecting in advance any programming.
The overall sound of the album follow the path of the previous EP, halfway between the new wave and ambient . The band aims references from Aphex Twin, Liars, Jamie XX and on the other side, classical sounds from the Italian song. In the album participate the voice of Ilaria Ippolito (# #Pap ) and of G ulia Olivari (O .A.U .). The video of Luxard was shot by Giovanni Aloi in a park in Hong Kong.
Torakiki filled the pieces of A vesom with a strong dynamic identity, combining the creative impulses of the three minds and their respective backgrounds. This is a process that questions the logic through a frenetic impulse that provokes constant changes, even though the final result are attainable and catchy songs.

To experiment, to synthesize and to imagine. These are the words of the new album of Adam Carpet 'Parabolas' that will be released in September 2016, three years after their first S/T album. Eight tracks selected from a higher number of tracks born during these years of free-style sessions and recording/editing sessions stratified day by day. An -almost- instrumental work, that moves the centre of gravity of the band towards a more electronic sound with more synth and smoother rythmics, without forgetting about a very live' approach made up by a combination of analog, digital, electronic and acoustic instuments.
These 'Parabolas' start from a post-rock fulcrum/core extending themselves through a more electronic and sperimental way, leaving all the tridimentional space to music, in a historical era overwhelmed with words.
