Classic 1985 French new wave holy grail, reissued on LP with a 12 page
booklet plus download code and digipak CD with 24 page booklet (liner
notes in English & French)
Thierry Müller, the French musician, photographer and graphic designer initiated
the Ruth project. As early as 1982, a first version of the track "Polaroïd/Roman/
Photo" emerged. "I wanted to write a piece to make the girls dance and make fun
of the boys. I plugged a small handmade clock on my Farfisa organ as a
sequencer. I had a small Roland synth-guitar, I put the organ in it and that's how it
started."
Philippe Doray, a big name of French experimental music, is amused by the idea
of working on a more pop project and offers to write the lyrics. Thierry works on
other tracks for the future LP and asks some friends to write other lyrics: Edouard
Nono, visual artist, writes the lyrics of "Mots", Frédérique Lapierre those of "Misty
Mouse" and "Tu m'ennuies".
The album was finally released in 1985 on Paris Album, a small independent label
but barely sells 50 copies. In 2004, two DJs Marc Colin and Ivan Smagghe
discover the track "Polaroïd/ Roman/ Photo" and decide to exhume it from
oblivion. They release it on a compilation called 'So Young But So Cold:
Underground French Music 1977 – 1983' (Tigersushi) and then Born Bad Records
includes it on the 'BIPPP - French Synth- Wave 1979/85' compilation in 2008.
Thanks to them, the track and the album start a new life, which sees several
limited edition (and now highly expensive) represses coming out between 2010
and 2015.

The newest longplayer from Tio'tiá:ke/Montreal staple Cedric Noel lands with a stunning sense of surety and self. Hang Time stands as a high water mark for a songwriter who's spent the past decade quietly expanding the borders of his music. Longtime fans will recognize the fluid elements of the album’s open-ended rock formations: reflective strumming, soaring choruses, searing guitar lines, subtle bass grooves; all occasionally dissolving into pools of pure ambience. New listeners will find surprises throughout: threads of folk pop, ambient and sound collage fasten the foundations of this expressive whole. However, what’s most striking on Hang Time is Noel’s newfound sense of voice, both literal and metaphorical. Written primarily in 2017-18 during an intense period of self-reflection, this collection of songs finds Noel wrestling profoundly with his sense of identity, self and place. The album’s material was captured faithfully at The Pines, a beloved downtown Montreal studio whose doors shuttered shortly after amidst the strain of the pandemic. Noel worked closely and patiently with friend and engineer Steve Newton, ensuring the songs had the time and space needed to come fully to fruition. Hang Time features subtle rhythm work from drummer Liam O’Neill (SUUNS) and guest spots from Brigitte Naggar (Common Holly) and Tim Crabtree (Paper Beat Scissors) among others. The album opens in mid-air with ‘Comuu’, a song that implores a becoming-more while hovering triumphantly. Then follows a suite of songs (‘Headspace’, ‘Keep’, ‘Stilling’) that recall the heart-rending power of y2k-era Low, albeit with a more vigorous beat. On ‘Bass Song’, an intimate duet with musician Ella Williams (Squirrel Flower) that explores the depths of interpersonal constriction. At the crux of the album sits ‘Born’, a deceptively pleasant-sounding song that explores the confounding emotionality of adoption before fading into a distended soundfield. Throughout the back half of the album, Noel double’s down on this commitment to his genuine, proud, Black self. The most confrontational track, ‘Allies’ finds him refraining “Are you on my side?” as a trailing guitar solo interweaves a Malcolm X soundbite, eventually engulfing the composition. Glorious lead single ‘Nighttime (Skin)’ traces the artist’s sense of ancestral dissociation through to a triumphant moment of pride in self-acceptance. Throughout Hang Time, Noel finds a way to ask hard questions (both of the listener and himself) in ways that are compassionate, open and honest. The ebb and flow of tension and tenderness that moves within these tracks helps to grow the heart and redefine what Black music can be in 2021.

Cult, obscure 1976 proto-electronics masterpiece 'Viaje' is a purely brain frying avant garde flipout from the electroacoustic musicians Eduardo Polonio and Horacio Vaggione (probably most known for his album on Cramps). Together, they deploy synths, electric guitars, organs and bass and squash them all up together in sundry sense befouling ways. On the A side, they're tangled into an overpowering threshing machine of spitting electronic mayhem, while the B side moves the proceedings into overtly acidy territory, everything ratcheting down and expanding outward into a delirious psychedelic electronic whirlpool. Beautiful gatefold vinyl reproducing the original artwork.

Both as a visual artist with a past in the art world (his first solo exhibition opened at
the Amigos del Arte gallery in 1995), as well as a self-taught minimal
improvisational cosmic garage rocker -see his La Banda's (1993) and Jesus
Freaks (2004) projects-, Diego Hernández (Santiago, 1972), active public and
semi-privately in both fields since 1992, is one of the iconoclastically multifunctional
characters of the scene casually scattered around 'free improv rock, electronic
and psychedelic collectives', such as A Full Cosmic Sound, Kb Cabala,
Watchout!, or more specifically, The Psychedelic Schafferson Jetplane or False
Sir Nicholas, by way of independent DIY labels such as E.T.C.S. Records,
Cosmovisón Andina Registros, BYM, Yellow Moon and Productora Mutante,
within the more adventurous substrate of what has summarily been termed the
new Chilean psychedelic scene, which in this case may be seen as the
connection between local archival reference points of the nineteen sixties and
seventies, such as Los Jaivas, El Polen or the more extravagant moments of Los
Blops, the musical background, halfway between hardcore, conceptual prog-kraut
noise and classic rock, and an autonomous organizational outlook aimed at
practical achievements (rehearsal room or workshop home recordings, analog no-fi
immediateness, concerts and exhibitions set up among friends, and small or
outright minimal print runs of a work aesthetic and ethics equally associated to art
brut as well as to post capitalist popular mass culture, closely connected to the
cassette format rescued for home production values). Thus, DH has devoured
whatever music, cartoons and books he can get his hands on, operating handheld
cassette recorders in order to register noise and melodies privately, as well as
drawing all over his notebooks since he was a child.
As Los Knock Knocks, Diego (guitar plus a limited variety of keyboards and
effects) has published a self-titled EP, the Digital Garage Days full-length
cassette and a seven inch single with two songs taken from that tape (A Hit Is A Hit
and Crack) that came out in a fifteen copy run published by BYM, which brings us
to Procrastination (from the Latin "procrastinare", that translates into the prefix
pro, meaning 'forward', and the suffix 'crastinus', 'untill next day' from 'cras',
'tomorrow', this is, 'the avoidance of doing a task that needs to be accomplished'),
his first incursion into the long playing vinyl format, and which for various reasons
spent a long time awaiting publication, is approachable as an excursion of
exotica/lounge resonances synthesized into instrumental, persistently rhythmic
passages of accentuated panoramic-expansive, almost cinematic pulses, with
Carlos Santana one minute and Lou Reed the next on an astral journey at a beach
rave with some T-1000 robots in charge of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in a
dark wave mood, in what we could consider a firm step towards unknown territory,
removed from convention and with his own well established personal coordinates.

Jersey’s club queen UNIIQU3’s Heartbeats EP finally comes to vinyl, following a slew of Best of 2021 accolades (including The Quietus’s #1 Track of 2021, Crack’s #3 Track of 2021, and Best of 2021 lists from Resident Advisor, Mixmag, Billboard, Pitchfork, NPR and more. Released on Local Action (home of India Jordan, DJ Q, Finn and more), Heartbeats represents both a new creative phase for UNIIQU3, and her most ambitious and personal project yet — dealing with themes of “self-love, heartbreak, intimacy and lust” across six narrative-driven tracks that showcase her production, singing and rapping at its most accomplished. That’s never more evident than on lead single ‘Microdosing’, a modern classic that squares the circle between New Jersey’s house history and its legacy of modern club music — racking up millions of streams and six weeks on the BBC radio playlists in the process. Although it's not the longest release of UNIIQU3’s career, in terms of its scope, detail, depth and honesty it feels like a true landmark moment for one of contemporary dance music’s most exciting talents.

Deer Leader is the moniker used by Stuart McQuarrie, Ross Prentice and
Robin Pringle - three multi instrumentalists who produce introspective
soundscapes that marry up loud guitars, spliced up beats, vocal samples
and warm layers of reverb.
Initially an purely instrumental outfit, the group have previously released a
double A-side single “Know Everything, Know Everyone/Last Acts of a Desperate Man”, which received attention from a few US blog sites and favourable
reviews from the local music press.
However, the group has spent the last few years reworking their sound with
revered producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, Arab Strap, Life Without Buildings);
recording their debut, which was finished early 2019.
The record moves away from their instrumental beginnings and presents songs
that offer a sense of duality in both their musical and lyrical content; part
dreamscape, part nightmare.

Delia Derbyshire is one of the most innovative electronic musicians of the 20th Century. She is best known for her pioneering work for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, and for composing the classic theme song for the original Doctor Who, believed to be the earliest "electronic" theme song in television history. A brilliant composer and one of the few women operating in the early era of electronic music, In the early '60s she collaborated with the British artist and playwright Barry Bermange for the BBC's Third Programme to produce four Inventions for Radio, a collage of people describing their dreams, set to a background of electronic sound. This is the first, simply titled Dreams, an attempt to represent, in sound, the sensation of dreaming. Derbyshire's electronic and musique concrete soundbed is the perfect underscore to the narration, simultaneously jarring, dissonant, and terrifying. An amazing piece of work from one of the legendary pioneers of electronic music.

F.S.Blumm and Nils Frahm have confirmed details of their fourth collaborative album, 2X1=4, which will be released on September 3, 2021, by LEITER, the new label formed by Frahm and his
manager, Felix Grimm. The seven-track album finds the duo unexpectedly exploring a dub influenced universe, though in truth it’s one already familiar to both. F.S.Blumm, for instance, is
co-founder of Quasi Dub Development, whose 2014 album, Little-Twister vs Stiff-Neck, featured Lady Ann and Lee Scratch Perry, while Frahm’s music – not least 2018’s All Melody – has
occasionally betrayed a fondness for the form’s associated studio techniques, though he concedes wryly that his approach has always been “a little bit more German” than his influences.

F.S.Blumm, a revered mainstay of the German underground for over two decades, and Nils Frahm, who’s enjoyed significant success in recent years with his ground-breaking compositions
for piano and synths, first met in the early 2000s. Frahm was a big fan of Blumm’s 2001 album, Mondkuchen – he refers to his fellow Berlin resident admiringly these days as “a vital brick in the
Berlin Wall” – while Blumm was soon dazzled by Frahm’s studio set up. “Compared to mine,” he says, “it was like a space ship!” Soon they were working together on a variety of projects –
including theatre pieces and animated films – and by 2010 they’d released their first collaborative album, Music For Lovers Music Versus Time. A second, Music For Wobbling Music Versus
Gravity, followed in 2013, and a third, Tag Eins Tag Zwei, in 2016.

2X1=4 is very different to its predecessors, but its final track, ‘Neckrub’, first took shape as they wound up work on Tag Eins Tag Zwei. “We had a certain sound in the back of our heads,”
Blumm recalls, “which was influenced by these 80s rhythm machines, and we suddenly discovered a common love for dub.” Most of the new album, therefore, was initially developed in 2016 during improvisation sessions recorded by Frahm to two-track cassette. “It was like we were running a combine harvester,” Blumm laughs, “so we could write our names on a single grain!”

Afterwards, they worked on editing and overdubs in Frahm’s new studio at Berlin’s legendary Funkhaus. “We kept on making new songs out of these sessions and starting over and over again,” Frahm smiles. “It was a process that was time consuming but really fun.” Not that either of them is eager to claim a purist approach. “I love ending up somewhere where I’m surprised by myself or the machine or the person with whom I’m making music,” Blumm concludes, while
Frahm emphasises that, “None of this is too serious. The record is only as much of a dub record as the ones before are jazz records…”

Gleich vier Shows im Funkhaus Berlin gaben den Auftakt zu Nils Frahms ambitionierter All Melody Tournee Anfang 2018, die sein gleichnamiges und allseits gepriesenes Studioalbum in den nächsten zwei Jahren auf die Bühnen dieser Welt brachte. In den folgenden über 180 ausverkauften Shows war der Ausnahmekünstler unter anderem im Sydney Opera House, in der Disney Hall in Los Angeles, im Barbican in London, in der Elbphilharmonie sowie auf zahlreichen großen Festivalbühnen zu Gast. Dennoch blieben Frahm die Konzerte im ehrwürdigen und für seine großartige Akustik gerühmten Saal 1 im Funkhaus Berlin in,mm besonderer Erinnerung.

Monkey Business is the third single to be taken from the forthcoming album ‘Hotspot’ out 24th January 2020, and features a radio edit of the track, remixes from Friend Within and Prins Thomas, plus exclusive B-side ‘At Rock Bottom’. "Hotspot" was mostly recorded in Hansa Studios, Berlin, and mixed in The Record Plant, Los Angeles.

It was produced and mixed by Stuart Price and features ten brand new tracks including the single "Dreamland" feat. Years & Years, which was released in September. Another of the songs, "Burning the heather", features Bernard Butler on guitar and was recorded at RAK Studios in London.

Now on album number seven , Metronomy has continued where many of their 2000s ‘cool’ band peers have dropped off along the way. Small World is a return to simple pleasures, nature, an embracing in part of more pared down, songwriterly sonics (some moments wouldn’t sound amiss on a Wilco release), all while asking broader existential questions: which feels at least somewhat rooted in the period of time during which it was made – 2020. For all that Mount seems to think he has made a comparatively sombre record, much of Small World still pulses with the zesty, tongue-in-cheek joie de vivre you’d expect of a Metronomy record.

So sure, things are different now Joe Mount is getting older and what’s on his mind is changing, but that doesn’t mark a change in quality for Metronomy. An immaculate set of tracks, Joe Mount’s ability as a songwriter and arranger shines through on Small World, evergreen. Metronomy might be growing up, but they’re not afraid to still have fun with it all. Through the tumultuous ebb and flow of the years, Metronomy continues to endure and make great pop music – and, really, that’s all that we could ask for.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announce an album of remixes of tracks from ‘Butterfly 3000’, their second studio LP of 2021 alone. ‘Butterfly 3001’ features reworks courtesy of (among others) DJ Shadow, Donato Dozzy, The Scientist, DāM-FunK and The Flaming Lips!

It’s Round 3 for Capcom and Laced Records’ Street Fighter Alpha series, as we present the complete Street Fighter Alpha 3 soundtrack on vinyl.

The Alpha 3 music team comprised Takayuki Iwai, Yuki Iwai, Isao Abe (aka Oyaji), Hideki Okugawa, and Tetsuya Shibata. Working with the CP System II hardware and QSound system, the composers delivered a more contemporary, crunchy, and techno-led soundtrack in contrast to its predecessors.

All music has been specially mastered for vinyl by Joe Caithness, and tracks will be pressed onto audiophile-quality, heavyweight 180g discs. Comic book illustrator Andie Tong returns with stunning sleeve art.

Made during summer 2020, Loraine James’ second Hyperdub album, ‘Reflection’, is a turbulent expression of inner-space, laid out in unflinching honesty, offering gentle empathy and bitter-sweet hope. ‘Reflection’ further develops a unique pop sensibility realised on last year’s ‘Nothing EP’, while tones of Drill and R&B seep through into this collection too. In contrast to the brash splashes of 2019’s ‘For You And I’ LP and the grimey anger of ‘Nothing’, ‘Reflection’ is pared-down and confident, taking the listener through how last year felt as a young black queer woman in a world that has suddenly stopped moving, the arc of the album peppered with Loraine's diaristic confessions. Starting positively with the gentle pop-trap of ‘Built To Last’ ft Xzavier Stone, into the bumpy instrumental of ‘Let's Go’, the album switches tone with ‘Simple Stuff’, followed by regular collaborator Le3 bLACK amplifying Loraine's vulnerability on the downcast drill of ‘Black Ting’, then ‘Insecure Behaviour And Fuckery’ is a techno glide which pairs Nova's confrontational plea for respect, delivered in monotone autotune, against deep Drexciyan chords. With Baths on vocals, the weightlessness of ‘On The Lake Outside’ soothes numb feelings, and Eden Samara explores the shadow world of anxious dreams on the airy R&B of ‘Running Like That’. Closing track ‘We're Building Something New’ with Manchester rapper Iceboy Violet brings the album together, confidently suggesting a new world is in reach. ‘Reflection’ is a brave step forward for a unique and creative 21st century musician.

Prins Thomas veröffentlicht seine Alben 8 und 9 in zwei Stufen, jeweils als LP sowie am Ende gemeinsam auf einer CD. Fulu Miziki bedeutet 'Musik aus dem Müll', eine exakte Beschreibung des aufregend chaotischen, umweltaktivistischen, afro-futuristischen Kollektivs aus der Demokratischen Republik Kongo, das als Meister im Upcycling seine Instrumente selbst entwirft, baut und spielt. Fulu Miziki schöpfen aus den Wurzeln der kongolesischen Rumba- und Soukous-Musik, verbinden treibende Percussion und rhythmische Instrumentierung mit Gruppengesang, bringen diese mit westlich anmutenden Berührungspunkten in Verbindung: R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop und eine Diaspora von Clubkultur aus dem In- und Ausland. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard announce an album of remixes of tracks from ‘Butterfly 3000’, their second studio LP of 2021 alone. ‘Butterfly 3001’ features reworks courtesy of (among others) DJ Shadow, Donato Dozzy, The Scientist, DāM-FunK and The Flaming Lips!

Boy Harsher’s latest release, ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’, is an exorcism.

Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews’ fifth release entitled ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ is not a traditional album. Rather, it is the soundtrack to a short film, also entitled ‘The Runner’. The film, written, produced, and directed by the duo, is a searching horror film, attached to a meta-style “documentary” about Boy Harsher’s recording process. The album includes several distinct components: cinematic arrangements, vocal features, and of course classic Boy Harsher dark pop.

Both the album and short film will be released in January 2022.

Last year, in the midst of the obvious chaos (the global pandemic), but additionally with Jae’s MS diagnosis, Augustus started working on moody, cinematic sketches. It was uncertain what these pieces would become, other than catharsis. In Jae’s period of convalescence, she kept thinking about this sinister character: a woman running through the woods. Together, they developed this idea further into a film. They were unable to tour, a drastic (and isolating) shift in their career, and making ‘club music’ did not feel right. But there was so much they needed to get out. The next Boy Harsher release would be a reconciliation of this time. The album processes feelings of universal anxiety and the confrontation of at home illness. A necessary expulsion during a time of unrest.

The album opens with “Tower”. The only track on ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ that Boy Harsher has previously played live, but never recorded. The song is an incantation, with its pulsing synth and Jae’s begging vocals. A spell about desire and impending destruction. Jae asks 'But are you honest? Do you trust? You trust in me?' Questions answered by her desperate yells. It starts both the film and the soundtrack with a heavy presence.

Two songs on ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ feature vocalists other than Jae Matthews. He allows a distinct sound for both vocalists and really leans into the possibility of divergent genres. “Machina”, is a HI-NRG homage, performed by Mariana Saldaña of Boan, and “Autonomy” a new wave tribute, performed by Cooper B. Handy of Lucy. Augustus Muller fully embraces the soundtrack ethos, by creating fictional ‘bands’ to generate additional content.

‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ is exactly what’s in the name: a soundtrack. At first the shape of the release was nebulous - yet once realized the album is dynamic. It serves as the story of the running figure and her musical accompaniment. Those expecting a traditional release will be surprised, but not disappointed.

Local jazz scenes keep evolving into new interesting variations, and this album by Copenhagen collective Jiyu, is no exception. A dusty brass opening, old as the sun, followed by a guitar/flute theme, driven by a lazy boom-clack beat, quickly outlines this hybrid-jazz sound, blown in from the future. The blend of dreamy, mellow jazz, hip hop, downbeat, bossa nova vibes, and cinematic electronic soundscapes, has caught the listeners attention worldwide, and the digital singles “So Many Moons to Go”, “King of Mañana” and “Parallel Dreams”, have made it to some serious jazz playlists on Apple Music, Spotify and Tidal. Jiyu is produced by guitar player and composer Emil Jonathan Søegaard A.K.A Low Pressure and former Stereo Deluxe recording artist EMO. The fellow musicians are, Bo Rande on trumpet, Lukas Rande on flute and sax. Carsten Skov on Vibraphone. Lennart Ginman on upright bass. Kinck on vocal, Thomas Dietl on drums, and AC. Woodman on Wurlitzer-piano.

Die Sonde untersucht weiterhin den Jupiter und seine Monde: 365 Millionen Meilen entfernt von der Erde an ihrem nächstgelegenen Punkt.

Die NASA hat Vangelis mit ihrer Public Service Medal ausgezeichnet. Außerdem hat das Minor Planet Center der Internationalen Astronomischen Union den Asteroiden 6354, der sich zwischen Jupiter und Mars befindet, ihm zu Ehren „Vangelis“ genannt, um die internationale Wirkung und Wertschätzung seiner Arbeit sowie seine Beziehung zum Universum zu unterstreichen.
